Replace outer frame glass screen - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Hi all,
My v20 h990 outer frame glass are broken.
It's berley seen but the whole screen is broken.
The good new it that the phone acts fine no dead areas so digitizer are in perfect shape.
My question is if i can replace the outer glass screen without screw the whole phone up?
In fixit and youtube videos i can see that thay taking the whole phone down to parts but it involves replacing the digitizer.
I order the part without the digitizer now the only question is if I can heat up the outer frame and replace the part without screw the whole thing up.
Thanks

Bump...

Have you learned how to replace glass alone. I have same issue but all videos show digitizer and glass together.

Could you post a link showing what part you have?

Got same issue have you able to replace the outer glass?

Archos 70 LCD Replacement Guide

OK, so I managed to break my A 70 LCD be rolling over it asleep on the sofa. Woe and despair. Anyway, problem now solved so I thought I'd do a quick guide.
I got the LCD replacement on Ebay - there are a bunch of sellers fpr about 85US including shipping - this compares to the Archos fix price of about 190.
All you need toolwise is a T5 screwdriver and disassemble the unit as per the Utube teardown

The tricky part of the process - and hence this post - is taking the screen out of the casing and seperating the digitizer from the screen. The item you need for this is a hairdryer. After seperating the unit, you remove the screen and digitiser from the casing by going around the casing on the outside rim of the screen with the hairdryer and gently prise it out.
Then the only hassly part - the digitiser (The digitiser is the capacitive screen component) about 1mm thick and well glued to the LCD casing using soft sticky glue. Seperating this was a worry as whatever about the LCD, break the digitizer and you wont find one on ebay so it's Archos or the bin. Again, I went around with the hairdryer, carefully using a razor blade to seperate the two making sure the blade cut away the glue from the lcd casing without touching the digitizer glass.
That done (and the stress over) simply placed the digitizer (which has little markings all around for placement - didnt need any recallibration) and reassembled the unit.
The only thing was that it seemed to take a while for the touchscreen to work right, and I thought I had borked this somehow but just seemed to get working normally.
Anyway, hope this is useful to someone.

You don't actually to Remove the digitizer from the case, a simpler method is to separate the LCD from the digitizer by unclip the lcd metal clips around it, you will be able to just remove the LCD it self (back light etc can be put back) do the same with the new LCD, unclip those metal, remove the metal frame and put the new lcd into the old metal frame (which is glue to the digitizer and the digitizer is glue to the case).
Yikes, I was worried about doing something like that but in taking apart the old lcd I see it's easy as pie.
Hope I won't need to do this again though.
Ok so let me get this right. Archos does not cover accidental screen damage? and they would charge me $190 for repair?

If you crash your car, do you get e free repair?
Dammn! I Broke mine yesterday, guess this guide will be useful for me after all...
Super easy to change the LCD on the 70, just take the time and do it slowly, for lcd order it's about $70USD :

Poo tried this and now the device won't turn back on
The Screen of my Archos stopped registering my touches. It displays everything fine though.
I opened it to see if any cables loosened, which was not the case. I put it back together and it works not worse but also not better than before. If anyone could give me a hint which other parts I could check for this issue, this would be very appreciated.

Screen Replacement

I've searched these threads and haven't really found what I'm looking for.
A friend has an HTC MT4G and it has a cracked screen. I see there are some YouTube videos showing how to replace the glass/digitizer. Are they not separable?
It looks like this is a very similar process to the replacement of the Samsung Galaxy S3 screen - you heat it up until the glass slides off, clean off the residue, replace the adhesive, hook up the new digitizer and bond the new assembly back on.
Sounds simple enough. But can someone post step by step directions on what needs to be removed from the inside to unhook the ribbon cable? The videos are fine, but I'd prefer to print instructions with photos rather than rewinding and playing the video. My first attempt at replacing just the glass on the Galaxy resulted in utter destruction. I can't afford to do that to a friend's phone.
Is there an LCD/Glass/Bezel combo that is way easier to replace, albiet pricier?
Thanks for any info.
Glass and digitizer are never separable AFAIK.
There is no replacement for glass on Samsung Galaxy series, none of them. The glass+digitizer is inseparable from the AMOLED screen (well, not using home tools), and is sold as a single pack. Nothing to be afraid of - meant to be destroyed upon replacement.
Not so with HTC - digitizer and LCD are separate. But removing the digitizer without damaging the LCD is quite a pain - cracking the LCD is oh-so-simple when bending the thing all ways to separate the digitizer.
I'm not able to post urls yet as I'm a noob here...

You can use a hair dryer to remove the digitizer/glass from the LCD. I had trouble because my glass was shattered.

If I crack my front screen, do I need to replace digitizer too?

I've decided to go naked with my Nexus 4. Having dropped it once already and cracking the back, I'm curious what would be involved with fixing a front display crack.
The LCD display is located behind the digitizer glass, so if you manage to break it without breaking the exterior glass then I'd be impressed (without opening the phone from the opposite side).
wait i think i'm mistaken, so the actual glass that i'm touching is the digitzer?
i'm under the assumption that it's glass>digitizer>lcd display and that when the phone drops, only the glass breaks. my question under that assumption again is does the digitizer also get damaged?
Well you are correct, the digitizer is the thin sensor layer behind the glass, but the trend with touchscreen phone is they're glued in together with the glass as a single unit, and I don't think they even sell them separately.

There is a youtube video to replace the glass/digitizer, but its looks like it will require some patience. It doesn't help that LG tape the digitizer to the LCD to make them seamless as well, making the process harder: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=paRc_n4uB8s

Glass Replacement

Hi everybody,
some time ago I dropped my X Style and a tiny crack appeared in the bottom left angle... The phone is still perfect in everything else, it's not worth it to replace the screen for something like this... It's just a little ugly.
Then I found this on ebay:
"MOTOROLA MOTO X STYLE BLACK SCREEN DISPLAY GLASS OUTER LENS DIGITIZER XT1572
This is just the outer lens, not the digitizer" (I cannot post links, but you can reach it by using "mJnRmL" code in the google url shortener)
But I'm not sure what "lens" and "digitalizer" refers to... Is it the whole external glass replacement, or just the borders or something else?
And if it's the whole glass, do you think is safe (and worth it) to perform the replacement by myself, or maybe pay same shop to do it for me?
Thank you in advance!
The glass is glued to the screen. Unless you have experience with separating glass from the display on phones, followed by applying a fresh coat of LOCA Glue, and using a UV light to cure it, I'd just go for the whole assembly. The digitizer is under the glass, above the display.
It's not the same phone, but here's a video of how it's done:

S8 bent, screen shattered?!

Hi there,
my S8 is slightly bent due to a crash with my bike. The screen is shattered, the digitizer and the glass are broken, too.
Now's my question: does the S8 have a separate frame in which the screen/glass-set is placed or is this frame (seen as the aluminum sides on the outside) part of the screen/glass-set which will be replaced by the repair shop?
I'm asking so I'll know if the bend-problem will be fixed with the screen/glass-replacement or if they'll try to charge more for it.
thank you!

aluminum frame isn't part of screen dont worry
You can change just the screen, or some screens will come with the frame, but the latter requires you to transfer all of the components. Have a look on ifixit, search Galaxy S8 screen replacement on google and read the ifixit guide:
Use this guide to replace a cracked or broken display on your Samsung Galaxy S8.
Note: This guide instructs you to replace only the display while leaving the original frame, logic board, and battery in place. However, some replacement screens for this phone come pre-installed in a new frame (a.k.a. chassis), which requires a very different procedure—transplanting your phone's internals and installing a new battery. Make sure you have the correct part before starting this guide.
This guide involves removing the rear glass cover, you will need replacement adhesive to reattach the back cover to the phone. If your replacement screen does not come with adhesive, you will need to use tape to secure it as well.
If the frame is damaged or bent, it's important to replace it, or else the new screen may not mount correctly and can suffer damage from uneven pressure.
The process of separating the display from the frame usually destroys the display, so don't follow this guide unless you intend to replace the display.
