Night mode in 7.1.1 - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Hey everybody,
unfortunately I can't use night mode since the latest update. I know it's a 7.1.1 thing and Google has deactivated this function, but has anyone managed to get it working again? I really miss this feature but downgrading is not an option and apps like twilight can't provide the same functionality.
Best regards

you can always change white balance, it's been there since day 1 !

Thanks :good: That's a good advice! Not as convinient as an automatic function, but still.
For everyone who got the same problem: RGB 255,100,0 is pretty good.

True! But it works with Netflix.
I use 255,110,0 because it's not so reddish.

If you have root, I use cf.lumen
Twilight and other screen filter overlays cannot compare (for me) to real cf.lumen/night mode, the color is just not the same. (the blacks!!)
Thanks for the white balance tip though.

I also use CF.Lumen. Amazing, and way better (and customizable) than built-in night mode. You can set Daylight, Twilight, and Night color modes (I use normal color, 2200K, and Red-only for mine), and you can switch between them based on time, ambient light, or both.
What Android night mode needs to do, is actually switch to a night/dark/black theme during night mode. I understand some developer releases of MM and N sometimes did this, but I don't think it carried over to any release version. If I'm wrong, then I'm jelly

I agree, and talking about themes... is it possible to change the system ui from light to dark?
I looked at the black theme the phone comes with, but (for example) the system settings page is still light.

Night Mode is working again with the March update \o/
You have to follow a few steps though (no root required):

PS: I had to follow the procedure three times until it worked. So be patient

That mode has a larger colour space meant for certain professional photo apps. For movies, and everyday normal life use Movie mode. If you like exaggerated colours go for one of the other options.

Adapt Display Yes.
Auto-brightness No.
I use a Black Background on my Homescreen with White Text (DashClock) and it looks yellowish in either Pro Photo Mode or Movie Mode
I have tried professional photo as well, but somehow went back to standard mode. But for reading books, professional mode is nice as the screen looks warmer.

Weird, I use Ocean HD (beautiful live wallpaper) mostly since I got mine on a charger 90% of the time and discharge it fully every 2-4 weeks. Maybe I forgot to mention a setting or it is a defect of some kind (software or hardware).
Worst case you could reset your phone to default and immediately set it to Movie mode to see if your clean phone already has these problems. Hope you get this resolved soon, and by simple means.

maybe it is something wrong with my eyes. Standard is definitely more blue whereas Pro Photo and Movie are more warm in color.
there's a switch when I reboot my phone from Blue hue to warm.

Yes, after a reboot it starts at a default screen mode setting and after a couple of seconds it checks your settings and then changes it. I noticed this an hour or so ago on my Note 3.

The default is Adapt Display, which on your homescreen exaggerates colours, so my blue underwater Ocean HD screen looks even more blue. It switches to 'normal' blue.
I just checked some more settings, but are you by any chance using Power saving mode or any of those other fancy settings? Having owned 7 Samsung Galaxy devices by now I always immediately make a round through all settings and switch off everything that is useless (to me). I hate stuff like auto-brightness, which may be great in a car if you use the phone hands free.

Do you use Lux to adjust brightness?
hmm. mine is a black background with just DashClock in White Text. it gets a little yellowish.
In Standard. it is like mint white.

I gave it a try before but it still looks kinda warm/yellow. it is not like there is a yellow tint/screen but the screen just looks warmer.
I've actually never seen an Amoled with Perfect white color.. always a bit to the warm side..
I tried both Movie and professional mode, don't like them at all more yellowish/greenish on the white
especially when comparing it to an IPS LCD screen... then the NOTE 3 is very warm and a tiny bit greenish on white (standard mode) only really visible when side by side with example LG G2...
But then on the LG G2 skin tones looks a bit pale, and with to blueish/cold
so it comes down to what you prefer
I'm a bit torn between them... but when it comes down to choosing I think i prefer the Note 3 screen...

Yellowish color screen after flashing arymod 4.0 or Flex_Lollipop Rev2.1, also tried 3 different kernels: LP_Xplorer_Rev1.7, darkqueen latest and perseo matergold. Still can´t get rid of this yellowish tint when the screen gets dimmer.
A photo would be good, I guess?
So you have only two options, either flash Stock ROM and have the display as it was, or you can use the app Screen Adjuster and turn up the Blue channel to neutralize the Yellowish effect. Remember, with that app you will just be masking the tint, not get rid of it, well not fundamentally.

Thanks for the help, I've also tried that app but the problem is if I neutralize at lower dim when brightness goes up the colors are messed up again. I´ll post screenshot.
I was going to post screenshot but it doesn´t show the problem and I don't have a secundary camera to take a photo.
xinfinityoO said to try and use synapse "Tip for the people with yellowish color hue

But color still messed up
Oh okay. Then you will have to ditch either the ROM or the kernel, I can't be sure which one is causing that (or maybe this is intentional), look for which one says stuffs about display tweaking, should be mentioned under the details of either the ROM or the kernel.
And screenshot won't capture that actually, a photo is needed, from a camera. Screenshots from all the Note 3 of the world will look all same.

I thought there was way to upload a synapse profile or something that could neutralize this. Everything works like a charm and at high brightness there is no yellowish issue only when it's dimmer.

Blue Light Filter on A(6) Series Nougat Stock

Hey, Guys
I accidentally stumbled upon Blue light filter feature hidden on my A5 2016 Nougat Stock ROM.
Here is how to access it.
Install Nova Launcher (I used only this)
Add Widget , Choose Nova.. Then Choose "Activities". Scroll Down to find "Settings". Under Settings, you can find Blue Light filter. Select it.
It can now be accessed through the Nova widget.
Blue light filter didn't work for me. Guys, you try and let me know. I think all the A (6) series Nougat ROM have this hidden feature.
Screenshot Attached
I already notice this since MM, read my post

But not found a way to upload screenshoot.

If you mean "enable", No. It doesn't enable it on the notification panel.
The method would just dig it up and unhide the feature. It gives you the access to the feature which is not available in a normal setting.
Just try it and let me know if the blue light is really getting filtered out or it is just lying there like a dummy setting.
I tried to change the Opacity. I saw no colour change on the screen.
I just posted this to know how it functions for other XDA members on their A(6) series phones.
Someone at XDA would come up with an idea or workaround to make it work and probably also put it on Notification Panel.
Just waiting!

Ok thank you for your reply. I think is a problem from the kernel because on custom Rom port from gs7 or gs8 aod and blue light filter are not working so the I think they have try to hide those feature but you can still see those because it's a port of the system ui

You are most welcome, McFy.
Yes, it has to do with the kernel. But it is not a problem. Samsung has deliberately left out the feature at Kernel level. If someone comes up with a custom kernel that supports this feature, yes, it might work.
Maybe on Framework too. When I tried to switch the display mode from Basic to Adaptive, it prompted me to disable Blue Light Filter to proceed with the mode change.
So I assume it didn't work for you too.
We can surely live without this feature. Still, it would have been pleasant to our eyes during nights (better sleep) and also our blue OLED pixels could have had the chance to live little longer. LOL

I tried Lux and CF Lumen in the past but I settled for Twilight for its simple interface. I have been using Twilight for years. I thought a native feature would be better. That's all. We didn't miss it on Marshmallow, definitely that's something we can live without.

Twilight does not has root mode which means that the it applies a Filter which lights up the black areas of screen also, but cf lumen in root mode changes the colour of the screen so, black areas remain black. That's why I prefer it. You're welcome!

I tried CF Lumen as you suggested. Wow! Yes, I noticed the difference. Twilight just washes the screen with colours.
Previously, I tried CF Lumen on an LCD screen phone. That's why I didn't see the difference. CF Lumen is a right choice for an AMOLED device with root privilege. Now I know what I had been missing all these years. Psst!
I compared CF Lumen and Twilight, approximately same settings(I think). There was a stunning difference!! CF Lumen any night!!!
For reference, I have attached the comparison screenshots of my home screen. Forget the whites, just look at the blacks. I hope it helps others.
Thanks again, Updesh!

Orange Hue on Screen Recordings - with all Apps - Help?

I came across a weird issue: No matter what App I'm trying, all screen recordings have an orange hue. I've tested with DU Recorder, AZ Screen Recorder and Game Screen Recorder. The results I'm getting are all like this (recorded the play store - you know, that should be white and green):
https://streamable.com/2spod
Is there a solution for this issue?
Is there an app that does not record with an orange hue on the Axon 7?
(Apart from that, even when recording in fixed portrait mode, the videos always end up being horizontal. I'm looking for a solution for that as well.)
EDIT: The issue was not the color settings of the screen in "Screen effect" as I was assuming. Turns out the "Night Light" setting (set on always on) was the culprit.
I hope this info helps others running into the same issue.
When you're not recording can you see the orange hue? If yes, then it might be LiveDisplay or some other screen filtering app that reduces blue color. If not then I'm not sure.
No, I can't see the orange hue when not recording - but I found the solution. See original post.

What ROM are you on? It's odd as Night Light should be adjusting the colour of the display rather than the system interface. At least you could turn it off and use a third party custom kernel KCAL based colour mod like CF.lumen, Lux Auto Brightness or F.lux to name a few.

I'm on standard "ZTA A2017GV1.2.0B10".
Well, it's also odd that the recordings were a lot more orange than what to me still looked pretty white on the original screen. Anyways... I just turn it off before recording now and back on afterwards.
Thanks for the list of alternatives though - it might come in handy in the future with other ROMs or phones.

maybe a bug on stock. Perhaps doubly orange as you recorded the orange and played it back with another layer of orange on top. Actually CF.lumen and F.lux don't require kernel KCAL but can rely on root as an alternative effect.

No - I even moved the file to the PC and it was the same intensity there, too... though it would have made sense considering it was recorded in the first place.
I'm not planning to root the device - as long as there's hope for an update from ZTE (which hopefully will come soon).

Android Messages Dark Mode

The latest update for Messages now has the option for Dark Mode, and also the Messages For Web has a Dark Mode as well!
Awesome, just got version 3.5 with dark mode enabled
Very nice. Now just add auto mode so it's white during day and black at night.
It's awesome! But they took away the widget... That might be a deal-breaker for me. Giving it a couple days.
They also removed the option to customize conversation color bubbles. The blue on blue looks hideous.

To be fair, about 80% of the color choices were terrible.. Like, 5 year old kid crayon colors. The do need to bring back the widget and color customizing though. Just a little more, grown up for the latter
Soooo, I changed my wallpaper, and now the new look is gone. Seriously. I've force closed, cleared cache, rebooted, nothing will bring it back. What. The. Eff... Maybe it wasn't turned on correctly on the server side with this update? Anyone else have this problem? I really miss it, but I went back one version and have my widget back. Not sure which I want more...
It must be server side because now it is back to the old way
Aaaand it's gone.
Damn. I came here to see if anyone else had it switch back on them. Stupid server side sh*t. Put the changes in the apk and leave my phone alone Google ?
Same here as well. The new material design simply disappeared and reverted back to the previous layout
Yep looks like Google removed the Dark Mode on the back end.
They removed the entire new look actually. I bet they didn't mean to push out the new look with version 3.5. It would make sense as to why we had to force close to get it to show, and why it's back to the old design. Either way, dumb.
Chasing your tail Google!
It will be back, some tweaking to do apparently. That looked so good, maybe the most visually appealing change I've ever seen made to an app.

Hey so I pretty much Installed an apk that gave me the dark mode option.
