Bixby updates - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Did anyone just got updates to Bixby? It was Dicatation and something else, 5 in total, but i still don't have the voice, even if i signed up for the beta (

I signed up for beta recently (~3 days ago), no email yet from Samsung., but I did see some Bixby updates which are dated July 6th I believe...

One of the things I noticed is you can now unlock the device with your voice. One of the frustrating things about bixby was that when you wake the device with "Hi Bixby" and have a screen lock, it wouldn't unlock the device and you still had to manually intercept to unlock the device. Now you can unlock the device with an unlock phrase.

It enabled Q&A, kinda just like googleing something. Like it can now answer who is the president or when is fathersday. Stuff like that.

I don't think I got the Bixby updates. When I got my S8+ last month, I tried it and it was pretty good. However, when it was active my Google Assistant didn't work whenever I tried activating it by saying, "Ok Google." Did anyone have the same experience? If so, can you please advise me on how to use Bixby without it conflicting with Google Assistant? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.

I don't have any update yet.

[Q] Google wallet tap & pay, will it ever work?

I'm familiar with the reasons why Google wallet tap and pay hasn't worked for the Note 3 in the past, due to the particular NFC hardware used, but there were rumors floating around that the needed drivers would be added for the 4.4.3 update. Here we are, post 4.4.4 update, and we still cannot use tap and pay.
Who is still holding this up and why? Will this EVER work for us? Dies anyone have any new information on this?
Thanks

I think he is mistaken but I chatted with someone at google today about that very subject. His response was that Wallet tap and pay should work fine with my VZW Note 3 without my having to do anything other than turn on NFC at the checkout since I have updated to Kitkat 4.4.4. So either their customer service folks are being fed bad information or the carrier is totally lying to us or it really does work but I won't know until I go someplace that accepts it and try it. I'm sure gonna feel stupid standing in that line tapping my phone on that panel and nuthin' happening.
I admit, I haven't actually tried it, but that's because I'm sure it won't work. We don't have the specific "tap to pay" section in the os settings menu, therefore, how could I possibly toggle payment methods between "Softcard" and Google wallet? and I know from previous phones that Google wallet must say "tap to pay ready" somewhere. Not to mention, it still says Note 3 does not support tap to pay on the Google Wallet support page.
Anybody else have any experience with Google or Samsung support regarding this issue?

Bug in "OK Google" in resurrection remix

In the following rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7...-resurrection-remix-os-nougat-t3528861/page57
There is a bug within the OK google flow. The first time you you say OK google and set it up (or by just going into the settings and doing it) it looks fine until you go to use it.
After you set up, when you say "OK Google", it brings up the set up again. When you try to run the set up it detects you saying ok google as part of the set up bringing up ANOTHER set up prompt..and then another...and another, I think you get the point.
So OK google is just broken
I would like to reply to this in the forum post but I don't have enough post creds apparently >.>
That's a bug with Google Assisstant on every non-Pixel phone
Is there a way to disable the assistant while still getting OK google to work?
im on beta 5 xda/rom (s7 edge 935f),how should i install this,i dont even know which one is the rom, please tell me as simple as u can, cause i did install beta 5 via twrp so..i know the basics.
try this
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=choplabalagun.blogspot.com.chopassistant
That app seems to work, the voice training still comes up for about a second but its much better than not having it at all!
Hopefully this bug gets fixed soon.

Has anyone received the Google Assistant update on their A2017U?

This past week, I've been reading that Google is pushing "Google Assistant" out, to replace the standard "Ok Google", to a bunch of Marshmallow and Nougat phones.
Has anyone received that yet, or know if the Axon 7 is going to get it soon?
Every phone running Android 6.0+ will receive the update but you already knew that. They are running the roll out as we speak but only for English users in US. English users in Australia, Canada and UK and Germany will soon follow. Rest during the course of the year apparently. So if you are in the US you will likely receive it soon or may already have received an update to the app. Hope this clarifies.
I just got the update a few minutes ago! I'm in northern California.
Sent from my ZTE A2017U using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I literally just got it a few minutes ago, Northeast US here. It's extremely quick, I'm impressed.
Yep, you guys prompted me to check mine, and I have it too!
I hate it. I use long press for Google Now to search like a hundred times a day. Now it is the Assistant and I see no way of typing my query. So now I have no way to do a search in one step. Anything I can do to get it back the way it was? Or a way to get a text field into Google Assistant?
yes!.. its working for me.. but..
dont know how it started working?
dont know where it the got the update from?
dont know where to check the update?... can someone pls help me find the answer?
use to use the long home press to check screen search.. disabled it today and thought because i disabled it, the assistant got kicked in.
Happy its working now coz the only reason wanted to get the pixel is for the assistant. this is great!
It seems like Google just doesn't want me to have assistant lol

I can force my phone to set up the Google Assistant, naturally, by removing my account and clearing data from the Google App, Play Services, and Play Store, and then holding the home button > then adding my account. But as soon as I back out of the assistant it goes back to On Tap.
How do you update, is this an upgrade to Google home? Presume this is not available to the Chinese version?

If you have the correct Google app, you already have Assistant. It just wasn't enabled yet. I don't know exactly how it works, but the app sees that you're on Marshmallow or higher in your build.prop and enables it. I currently have a Nexus 6p and before Google decided to enable it for all phones over 6.0, devs figured out that changing a couple of lines in the build.prop tricked the app to think the phone was a Pixel, thus enabling Assistant.

I found those instructions weeks ago but I'm not rooted and there's no option to add languages so I'm screwed. The update also made do not disturb mode turn on 24/7 unless I completely disable it. What a load of BS.

I feel your pain bro. I hate this fact. I'm still using the Pixel launcher which has the search widget for text. I find myself going to the home screen to do my Google searches. It's horrible.

I'm using Nova so I set it up so that pressing home (once home) or swiping up on the drawer icon takes me to search. Yeah it really sucks to have to go to the home screen. That damn assistant sucks. It forgets my voice training after awhile too and I have to do it again.
I have on my G version, I don't know for sure, but I got so fed up waiting, I tried changing my language to US, rebooted the phone and bam! Within 10 seconds I had it. Also I had updated to the latest google play services. I had done this a million times but nothing happened until the language change. Coincidence?

Google assistant rollout

With Google officially starting the GA rollout I am curious if anyone has yet to get it? I updated to the Google Play Services Beta and latest Google apps via apkmirror.com. And NO I have NOT got GA working.
I STILL only have this (Screenshot)
I used a beta APK that was linked from Android police a couple weeks ago, but it broke the Feed part of the Google app, so I deleted it. Assistant did work.

Ya I am actually talking about the latest release. Google Assistant is suppose to be available to all devices now as long as they are on Android 6.0+.

I also updated to the Google Play Services Beta a few days ago thinking I would get the new assistant almost immediately but nothing yet here either.
The switch is server sided no APK's will get you the assistant anymore.
At least that's what I've been made to believe. We'll all have to patiently wait.
Took official nougat today and got Assistant!!!!

Nothing here and already updated to nougat
re assistant
I updated to nougat. Tried beta's too. Still no assistant!
I have unlocked the secret to getting Google Assistant and it unfortunately it requires your Google account to be activated server side. I tested it on 2 other devices including my own. As long as your Gmail account is on a phone with Marshmallow or above and you setup Google now to your account the next time you hold the home button it starts the assistant setup. The downside is if you remove that google account it does not stay unlocked to that device. So if you have family member that has it you can get it but otherwise Google will have to unlock your account.....
Cleared Google now app's cache, went through the setup and customization and let it run for a few minutes and got the assistant setup
Don't think it had to do with clearing the app cache they had a massive rollout of accounts the night before and yesterday looks like we got lucky.
Google assistant just landed on my phone about an hour ago. Google must be rolling things out slowly, but didn't have to do anything special.
It became active for me last night around 11pm.
I've had assistant on stock 6.0.1 for weeks... I didn't realize it was a big deal lol. Just checked for system updates though and Nougat is FINALLY available
With everything that Verizon WON'T allow us to have... (ie. Samsung Cloud, Samsung Pay @ Launch), we get a little giddy when something does land on our phones LOL.
And Samsung Pay is only still allowed because there isn't a "Verizon Pay" yet!
This sucks lol. I still haven't gotten it.
My wife hasn't either....
I still don't have assistant. Anybody else not get it yet?
Strangest thing happened with me.. I read that I needed to leave the Google services beta program to get assistant to work. So I did and uninstalled the beta version and updated to the current version. Almost instantly received Google Assistant. Then the strange part is it was gone after I used it once.. no clue why and can't get it back no matter what I try.

Updated version of Google Allo?

I have what I believe is the most current version of the Allo app [7.0.023_RC09] (yes, I am one of the three people using it) and I saw a few articles a few days back where they added a Google Assistant button and tweaked some other settings, but I am not seeing these new features in my Allo. Anyone know if this is a server side switch maybe or is there a different version I need?
A.
The button is there for me for google assistant
Just so there is no confusion...I did finally get Assistant to replace Google Now for the home button, but I still do not see the Assistant button in Allo even after a few updates...
So for anyone that was curious, it does look like a server side switch. Here is a post from someone at Google.
Chris, Community Manager @ Google Google Employee
As an update, just heard that this particular feature (dedicated Assistant button) is on a different roll-out schedule than the rest of 7.0 features. So if you haven't seen it come up yet, sit tight! Thanks for your patience
