So I used GMD in the play store to disable the navigation bar on my S8+ to further enjoy the infinity screen but now I have a gap at the bottom of my dock where it used to be. (See image) I am using nova prime as my launcher. Anyway to get rid of this gap?
try setting Nova launcher as Full screen in phone Settings > Display > Fullscreen apps
Thanks for the suggestion but didn't work.
Android is still trying to take into account the navbar even if it isn't there. I'd image it some systemUI app setting or something else within the OS.
I have mine setup to be immersive all the time and all launchers I've tried act the same. Not much of an issue for me.

Best to use the manual ADB way. No gaps
Use Shortcutter, which has an Immersive Mode switch that goes in the quick settings.
Then enable it to write settings via adb command:
Code:
adb shell pm grant com.leedroid.shortcutter android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS
Then, in the Configure Services/Tiles tab, in the Immersive Mode section, select "Show Mode Selector". This makes it so every time you select Immersive Mode, it will allow you to pick between hiding nav bar only, hiding status bar only, or hiding both. The benefit of using Shortcutter is that you get that switch in quick settings, so you can switch between having both bars, either one, or neither at any time (such as when you hand the phone to a friend and they can't figure out how to use the phone ).
Personally, I select to hide both, and use a notifications widget on my desktop to look at notifications, and enjoy a huuuge display for everything I want to read or chat.
Examples:
desktop - notifications go in the blank space in the middle
browser

I use rooted N4 with PA Rom and Joker kernel. Joker has given the biggest smile to my battery. And believe me, I have tried almost everything that's out there.
In Roms though, I have been on PA right since the beginning... I love the hybrid feature too much to leave it for any other rom.
So my personal prefs:
1. Extraaa Space: I use expanded mode. But I wanted the notifications to be seen easily. So I have two extra ways to pop up notifications from me (apart from in the pie):a) TabUI mode in PA: Multiple ways to have notifications is only supported in the Tablet UI mode.
b) Apex Launcher (Free): Set up a gesture for 'Show Notifications'.
c) I use LMT launcher for and extra added notification.
2. Apex Launcher:I use 3 gestures: Swipe Up: Show Notifications
Swipe Down: Toggle Dock
Double Tap: App DrawerAnd after these, I don't need the app drawer icon as well (as you can see in the first screenshot)
I have decresed the icon size of the dock items and drawer items as well. The icon pack is Holler wht.
3. LMT:I did not want to use it since I already am using Pie. But LMT has some cool options. As you can see in the screenshot, my LMT pie is quite minimalistic: Button 1 is Notifications (Longpress-> Menu),
Button 2 is Back (Longpress -> Home), and
Button 3 is Recent Apps (Longpress -> Previous App)
The main reason for me to install was the lack a quick back gesture in PA's Pie. With LMT, I simple swipe from the center of the right (or left) border activates button 2 (ie Back). It is the height of awesomeness. Though what I would love is Pie to have similar functionality, probably a swipe in the screen bottom for Back, but it may not go well with sweep2wake.
You can have many more buttons and settings on LMT. Try it!
4. Dashclock widgetWell, it is already a heartthrob of many of us. But it lacks customization. We should have an option for the font sizes and control over which components we want to see in the side (only the icons) and which in the bottom scroll view (full text).
Anyways, it was too big for me, so I changed it's hybrid properties. I am using 220 dpi for the widget. I had to remove and reapply the widget after changing the settings.
Note: Halo is another way to get notifications in PA, but I do not like it in it's current stage because of two major reasons:
1. Does not work fully with TabUI. In other modes, either I need to have a status bar, or rely only on Halo.
2. Relying on Halo solely does not serve my purpose, because when I come back to my phone after say a few hours, I need to see all my notifications at once without trying to swipe through the entire screen.
Hope you enjoyed the show (and tell!)
So, I just did the KitKat update. Seems to be a little snappier, but nothing special. Wish I would've stayed on jellybean to be honest.
1. My primary issue is that I'm trying to figure out how to enable "Immersive mode". Do I need a special launcher? I tried sideloading the google now launcher but the the black task bar/status bar stays put (if that makes sense).
My goal would be to "enable" immersive mode, but keep the moto circle widgets as the well as the quick settings menu, but I'm okay losing it if necessary. Also, I would like to have "okay google" homescreen to work.
Thanks for any guidance on these issues. Would rather not root, or load a custom ROM if necessary. Thanks!
---
BTW, here are some other issues if you all know a fix...
2. Is there a way to change the lock screen/PIN screen to the way it was. The number pad is smaller now with KitKat
3. Is there a "dark theme" to the gmail app.

Regarding the immersive mode when you are in a full screen game or any given app, if you try to pull down the status bar, you can now, thanks to the immersive mode.

Thanks triloger. I feel like an idiot, I mixed up "immersive mode" with what should have been "transparent notification bar/navigation buttons". Sorry for the confusion.
Unfortunately, I had to download a different launcher but I was able to get the transparency working.
Have: Nexus 6P stock 6.0.1. Need: some customization. Items in green have a solution.
I've enabled Developer Mode and System UI Tweaker. I'd like to do this without root, or anything that would affect individual Google Play-installable apps. (The reason is, I need this device for final user release testing, so it should be what users have just from factory reset + install apps and normal OS upgrades):
Different wallpaper on Lock Screen than behind icons and widgets. (Tried: http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...-lock-screen-wallpaper-help-how-can-i-do.html - No triple dot menu visible in Wallpaper)
Full brightness on Lock screen instead of 90%, independent of brightness settings. ("OK" option: same brightness as manual brightness in Settings) (http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/help/home-lockscreen-brightness-t1704705 - no Lock Screen Options in Settings)
Disable peeking globally. ("OK" option: put them in the statusbar like 4.4.4) (I don't want to disable peeking for every new app I install: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Here...ifications-in-Android-6.0-Marshmallow_id75408) Temporary solution: I will manually disable peeking for every new app that shows them.
Global saturation setting for icons. (They're all saying "click ME!", that's an icon designer's job. With an excellent high-contrast screen like this, it's a crowd shouting.) ("OK" option: some other way of getting icons to look more Zen.) Icon packs for launchers are that "OK option", browsing tons on Google Play left Hexacon and Dual Shadow. So Hexacon.
Remove the Google Now bar from my Home Screen (without disabling any services). (As in, I taught the device my voice, so I don't need it there for me to tap. Tried: https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-remove-the-google-search-bar-from-your-android-homescreen - it's not long-tappable nor draggable, nor does it appear under Google Apps in Widgets.) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
I'd like to be able to do this:
Some quick way (preferably swipe) to access a more compact Quick Settings widget, like on my Xperia Z. I've reduced it to 9, can't remove "Invert Colors" and Location toggles.
Global Night Mode for everything in the System UI - to make it look similar to the Quick Settings. (This is a "like to" only because it's been promised in N. I really need it like, now. ) Best solution so far: Nova Launcher.
Basically I have the greatest phone, so I want it to look good at all times, and with the aim Clean, Fresh, Zen.
I posted here bc the forum was most specific. Feel free to refer or advise me how to best get answers as I joined tonight.
Any & all advice on single questions is appreciated Not possible is a valid answer, and I'm also prepared to wait for N if that's the answer.
I used to think of "ok google" as a novelty but its become more polished and if it remains reliable Ill continue to use it more& more. As it applies to keeping things clean it sort of does eliminate need for extra widgets.
If you have ok google everywhere u can just say " ok google...launch settings". Same goes for music apps, podcasts, youtube videos etc.
Started using a new app other day you might like called sesame edge. I set it on the right edge, virtually invisible and it brings up quick access to apps.

Thanks, trying it out. Also tried Sesame in the hope that it would let me set a different lock screen wallpaper, but it only had "their automatic lock screen wallpaper or off" as setting. I sent feedback to them, so let's see.

I dont use a lockscreen but on Pure Nexus which Im using now there is an option to set lockscreen wallpaper.
I use action launcher 3 which doesnt allow me to remove google bar (i dont think) but nova will let u do that. I like the bar cuz on action launcher i can put several shortcuts for whatever i want.
ASAP launcher is very minimal. Again you cant REMOVE the bar but swipe down and it turns into a simple clock widget.

Thx, tried Nova and it gives me Night Mode. Thanks for that Still, no way to have a different wallpaper on the lock screen than on the home screen, and I can find no Prime option for it either. Pure Nexus requires CM.
Can I mix and match this type of apps? Will they interfere with each other? Sesame seems to work with Nova at least.
What about Hi Locker? http://android.wonderhowto.com/how-to/get-back-lock-screen-customization-android-lollipop-0160204/
Can custom lock screens lock me out of my phone, make me butt dial, hog battery? I just want to change the gdmn background!
As I wrote, if some feature comes in N I'd rather wait than mess up my new phone.

Seems Im constantly tweaking things and having problems recalling exactly what I used. I know making lockscreen different from desktop is something Ive done many times. Do u have xposed? Pretty sure gravitybox has that option.
As far as butt dials, I use sweep to wake & it was a problem. Always remember to put it in your pocket screen facing out. I also need to do that when using bt headphones or else i get distortion. Anyways if i find something relevant Ill let u know.
Thx for suggestions!
I want weather, clock, and a background that matches my high-end case on the lock screen AND NOTHING ELSE, and then wherever there are icons I want a neutral background or just a color so I can see them properly. I think that's being a normal user with sensible demands.
Right now a huge dark gray or white slate COVERS the background anyway. I don't mind it, it lets me see the icons of all manner of variety and quality against something neutral, still... just allowing a background to set behind your icons seems to be an easy addition... since Froyo... Anyway, end rant about Simple Things. Android at least lets you customize them.
I'm battling notifications now. Light Manager is recommended for the 6P - testing it out now for notifications that are actually important, will report.
First of all, it's important that this mod isn't for everybody, because it hides the status bar as well, to fill the entire 18.5:9 screen with content. It looks very immersive, as if the entire front side of the phone is display, because the top bezel is about as thick as the status bar would be, and the bottom bezel is about as thick as the navigation bar would be. I don't find the status bar to contain any info that I need to view all the time, if I want to view the time, battery percentage or notifications, I'll just slide down from the top to show the status bar.
I've added the TouchWiz launcher as an exception, because even if the status bar and navigation bar are hidden, the empty area where they would be stays there. View attached screenshot 1 to see what this mod looks like in-app, and screenshot 2 to see what it looks like on the home screen.
Steps:
1.Install ADB, and open the ADB terminal. Steps to install are here: https://www.howtogeek.com/125769/how-to-install-and-use-abd-the-android-debug-bridge-utility/
2. When you have opened the terminal and connected your phone in USB debug mode, enter this code to the terminal, and press enter:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=*
3. After this, you will notice, that the navigation bar and status bar will disappear on your phone on all apps. Now enter this code to the ADB terminal, to re-enable them on the TouchWiz launcher:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control immersive.full=apps,-com.sec.android.app.launcher
If you're using a third party launcher, it most probably won't need the navigation and status bar, because it will probably adapt to the changes by stretching. But if you want to show the bars on a custom launcher, just replace "com.sec.android.app.launcher" in the piece of code above with the package name of the application where you want to show the bars in.
To disable the mod, just enter this code to the ADB terminal:
Code:
adb shell settings put global policy_control null*
Additional tip to ease navigation when the navigation bar is gone, use an app called All in one gestures, found here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phoenixstudios.aiogestures&hl=en
You can see how I set up the app in attached screenshots 3-6, I set up the left edge swipe to act as a press of the recent apps button, and the right edge swipe to act as a press of the back button. I'm using the pressure-sensitive home button as a home button, because a hard press of the place where the home button would be acts as a press of it. Navigating with edge swipes is super easy on the S8 because the edge is very comfortable to swipe from, I find it even more intuitive than using the navigation bar to navigate. I hope that you enjoy this mod as much as I do, I've been using it for weeks now. :good:
thank you
Hi there,
i recently got my new phone - sgs8. The display format is not allways that usefull since most apps will left a black bar because they where made for 16:9 and not 18,5:9.
Anyway there is a way where it could be very useful - multiwindow.
Well its a nice function especially with that long screen. Sadly there is the Navigation bar which eats up about 0,4inc/1cm of the screen.
By now i have tried all the steps @ gadgethacks and above.
I was able to remove the Navigation bar on homescreen (where i actually don't need it to be gone - so i reactivated it for the specific launcher)
but not in multiwindow. Whatever i do, whatever launcher i use (nova, apex, standard) the white bar (not allowed yet to post link/picture) wont disappear.
Is there a way to get rid of it as well?
thx
back in 2014 i started on a ui design i called symetiumos, i was able to find a team to make it into a launcher but i ended up getting scammed by them they simply left me with it in a very broken unusable state, i released the launcher on the playstore and despite it being broken the response has been overwhelming, so far it has nearly 5 stars and over 300 downloads, i am looking for someone that can help me finish the launcher and fix it's bugs
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.symetium.ui.launcher&hl=en
this is a full list of everything thats remaining some things can be skipped such as automatic appsorting or the modes system (modes system works by combining two identical settings screens into one, it's like backing up your settings on a random launcher, my launcher would have two settings screens one for portrait one for landscape it would use each depending on orientation it's like a launcher that has portrait and landscape settings for grid, but my launcher has it for the entire settings screen, so if you set the color layer to red in portrait and green in landscape then it will be green when you flip the phone, because the launcher changes to a new settings screen in landscape, it's like if you kept backups of multiple settings configs then have the launcher flip between them, each mode uses two settings screens identical ones only difference being what the user adjusts them to.
the main bugs are
1.full appdrawer needs to be replaced or repaired it lags, the icons in it are offcentered, the full appdrawer button needs to be 4 dots, it should be pullable down right now you need to press the x to close it you should be able to pull it down like any other appdrawer, if you set it to disabled then the button should not be visible any more.
2.the "system" category needs to be removed it lags and it shouldn't be there, the team added it based on a guess.
3.when scrolling through apps the dockmenu can close itself this is a bug
4.you should be able to scroll all around the dockmenu so when you get to the end category it scrolls back to the homescreen like you'd expect and vice versa meaning if you scrolling the other side you will enter the dockmenu from the last category rather than first, right now it blinks out rather than scrolling
5.homescreen appdock needs work right now it's pretty limited you can't set any icons or even what the current icons do, it also needs a button to enable or disable it
6.a menu needs to be made for customization of categories
7.homescreen needs the standard pinch menu to get to the launcher settings button, wallpaper button etc
8.launcher needs a general settings section with the following options
enable/disable navigationbar (this simply enables or disables the navigationbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable statusbar (this simply enables or disables the stock android statusbar in the current mode and orientation)
enable disable persistent statusbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the statusbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
enable disable persistent navigationbar (this makes it easy or difficult to reveal the navigationbar, right now it's difficult and you can't do anything about it)
9.the launcher should not resize itself depending on dpi all sizes should be available on any device and any dpi, the launcher needs a "dockmenu size" option under dockmenu where the user can set any size that is available through different dpi's, size settings needs to work for the custom statusbar as well, the dock has many more size options through dpi changes rather than the size options in settings so add all these options in settings and prevent it from resizing itself depending on dpi
automatic dpi resizing can be ok if it chooses a setting from the settings menu, just like when windows chooses a resolution thats recommended) the user should be able to have any size they want on any device regardless of dpi, if automatic then it should simply choose a size thats available in the settings.
10.color layer bugs not filling properly and the dock glitching out sometimes where the home icon dissappears and the dot no longer works.
these are the most of whats broken.
full list of whats remaining is below, if anyone wants to help me finish my launcher please let me know.
