4G icon - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello to everyone.
I got my S8 in germany. It isn't rooted and on stock rom. Basically I haven't touched the phone in that way.
My question is: is there a way to change the 4G to LTE? Im just annoyed by that icon.
Thanks for all answers.

Isn't it a Nougat thing?

I think it's how your carrier labels it. Mine says LTE

Eu models say 4g. Cant be changed unless you root

[Q] Verizon G2 ... Possible to get on 4g LTE from Tmobile ?

Hey Guys,
I got a Verizon model that I've been using on T-mobile. I've been very happy with it so far but I'm wondering, since it is rootable, can we somehow someday unlock the t-mobile 4g lte bands ? I believe its the same phone on each network... just software locked. Cant really find anything online about it but i think it may be possible.
Hope the experts weigh in on this

So you had Verizon sim unlock it? I'm assuming so otherwise I don't think it would work but you say its working with the exception of LTE? I'm unfamiliar with T-Mobile bands but I think the Verizon G2 has them all. Is there a difference in the plan to include their LTE? You're certain your area has LTE?
Check out the Nexus 4 forums. There are a ton of hybrid radios they flash to enable LTE and educate on Radio differences. There's a sticky on top for all LTE diilscussion. I don't think you'll need to flash radios, but you'll find resources on how to possibly enable it in APN settings.
Have you modified any APN settings?
Are you running stock software?
Edit: I am no expert. Hope that's OK?

as far as i know you would just have to modify the apns and tell it to connect to tmobile's network instead of verizon. sometimes it will just do it on its own though
Bump. I see people posting all over that it is possible but I cant seem to find the proper threads. Heck, people have talked about flashing a t-mobile stock rom to it and it works... Is this true?

This is indeed true, you need to be on the 11a firmware which means not taking the ota update to 12b from verizon. Then you flash the Tmobile stock ROM and a patch made by tangjun269 found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=49301459
You will also need to flash the 12b modem before flashing the Tmobile ROM and patch in order to get LTE

Does it work just like the tmobile variant? After its been flashed? And does hspa+ work too?

carrier issue

So I just bought a verizon G2 couple days ago using it on ATT network. I don't see ATT logo and it shows that my phone is roaming. Also, the internet speed has been slowing down. Can anyone tell me why is this happening, and is there anyway I could make it work out as if it were an ATT phone ? Should I buy a code to unlock it , root it ? I'm totally new, but looking forward to hear from you guys. Please help !
Did you manually put in att's apn info? Google it if you haven't...

[Q] Letter variants at the end of model number?

Hi just a quick one. looking at buying s5 off ebay. And the main model I can get is the G900h. But my friends is g900f. I'm in the uk and he got his on release day. What's the difference ? Anything to be concerned about?
Thanks for all help I get
Robbo
I would recommend you to get the G900F variant. It has LTE, the H only has 3G. It's for markets where LTE is not generally available.

s7 edge is having trouble with TMobile's LTE mobile data

So I recently purchased s7 edge g935fd from Taiwan. The phone was working fine there in Taiwan. When I came back to the States, however, the phone seems to have trouble connecting TMobile's LTE mobile data. The LTE goes on and off , no matter where I am. The phone still says that it is connected to LTE even when the data is not loading. I tried to reset the APN setting but no avail. I also tried that sim card on my old ASUS Zenphone 2 and the LTE worked fine so it is probably not the sim card's fault. The weird thing is that I can still call, text, and even use 3g network, it's only LTE that is not working properly. Anyone got a solution to this?
Have you gone to settings>mobile networks and checked if it's set to auto connect?
I took off unlimited data from my account because **** sucks here In Aurora Colorado. Isn't worth an extra 20 a month when I got WiFi at home and at work. Plus 2gb free is cool with me. Still got bingeon

I used to have a note from Verizon Unlocked, but seems they've done that on and off signal quite a lot. Since their phones from T-Mobile have everything pre-installed, you can't even delete or edit their APN.
That's why I got a phone with then GS7E works like a charm.

Oh well. Like I said even with that sht I can NEVER load a video on Netflix on my lte, I would miss flights before this crap loads. I like t-mobile because it's the only one that's "good" in my area if t-mobile is "good" I don't want to know what's bad. That's cool it works for you. But I rather pay $55 a month for text talk and 2gb of free data

I have a 935FD on TMO and never have had a problem. I actually have a 935T also, just made sure the APN's matched. The FD however, has never shown an LTE icon although it shows connected to LTE in settings. This could be to being rooted and running a custom rom. But to your main question, again, I've had no issues.

So you bought and international version? I think I may have to do the same for the Note 7 but not sure how compatible the international versions are with T-Mobile

Yes, I bought an International version after realizing it would probably be some time before the 935T got root. From what I understand, and don't quote me on this, but the international version of just about anything is compatible with TMO or any other GSM network. The Note 7 should be just as compatible as my 935FD is with TMO.

Do you get wifi calling with the international version? It also seems Samsung won't honor the warranty and SquareTrade won't as well since Samsung isn't.

No, and that is the only reason I've kept my TMO version is for the wifi calling. If the buildings where I work weren't blast proof we would have cell signal inside them. Since we don't, the wifi calling is our only Option, besides landlines of course. For all these reasons we're talking about is why I'm looking at getting an HTC 10. I'm getting tired of all the Samsung lock down on stuff.

Lol that's the exact problem I have at work there is absolutely no service in certain parts. It's pretty sad for T-Mobile. We're basically forced to get there version.

4G or LTE on s10+

Well, I searched for this thread but couldnt find it, if theres a original post, im sorry for making a new one, but I had S9 and always on the top right corner was LTE icon for my cellular network. I bought S10+ and with the same SIM and same cellular, im getting 4G and 4G+ only, no more LTE. I know LTE is basically the same as 4G, but still it looks nicer to me when it says LTE. Maybe its up to the firmware, I dont know. Some advices?

When I was on the U firmware of Verizon I used to see 4G/4G+. I moved to U1 firmware and now I get LTE/LTE+. Possibly it is indeed uptown the firmware used.

I had the same issue after csc change tht aftr I used *#272*imei# =>>turned my s10+ INS/INS, INS/INS into BTU/BTU/, BTU/INS. It always was LTE in my netwrk tht suddenly became 4G+. I dint worry at 1st but ws shocked whn the phone lost call recording feature, caller ID and spam protection, offers showd in pound in Samsung members app instead of INR. I could never fix ths issue bcz tht csc changing code was unidirectional, it dint work after the phone became a BTU phone. None of the old methods to change csc worked. I got the phone replaced by Samsung aftr few weeks of struggle nd thn all became normal.
Probably have to root your F model phone to get LTE to display. You better off asking this question in the other forum section for a more accurate answer.

Mine has 4G and LTE. I win!
But yes, the icons are dependent on csc.. each carrier can tweak the icons to their liking, if u look through the csc code you will see what i mean.
i dunno if any apps exist (they used to) that let u change the icons but i would just go that route if i were you.
