Hi guys I'm on Omega Rom 3.0 with notorious kernel 1.9 and I was wondering how to enable Bixby button without Bixby Assistant, right now I've not installed Bixby assistant in aroma Rom installation, so I've installed Bixby remapper and another byxby button reassigner apps but none of them is working.
As long as i understand, if you don't have Bixby assistant app you will not have Bixby button functionality. Or there is any way to enable it?
Thanks for your responses.
+1
Same here
Would be nice to remap the button without the bloat app
You guys aren't using this yet??

Does anyone know how to set the home button so when you long press it, it will send you to your recent apps menu? Before I rooted the phone when I long pressed the home button it would open the recent apps menu? But ever since I rooted it only opens up Google now, or a single click opens up Magazine? Any help is appreciated! Thanks!

Try using some launcher such as nova or apex and enable the required from its settings. I do not garentee this to work.

I wonder how or why root affected this?

Did you install Xposed framework by any chance?
So, I'm running CloudyFlex, and I'd really like this feature. Holding the back key on Pie does nothing.
Has anyone done it? Do I need LMT perhaps?
Cheers!

Or maybe you got used to the higher placement of the volume rocker?

But you're ok with it right? It's not something which would make your return the phone.

I'm ok with it, mainly because eventually we will get to remap it to whatever we want. There are bixby apps out right now, but they don't work 100% for me and bixby sometimes comes through.
I do think the phone needs some getting used to after switching to it coming from the Nexus 6p. Mostly cause the Nexus is huuuge

I just disabled the bixby apk's. Actually I left one that wasn't disabled as I read somewhere you needed to leave one running, but I used package disabler pro to disable the rest. That way the bixby button does nothing when pressed. Until Bixby is mature enough to be usable, I would rather not have the button do anything. I use google now for my voice assistant if I need a voice assistant (mainly for looking up an address while driving, although I can send a text via voice or other things like that). If Bixby gets updated to where it would be worth it to use then I may re-enable the bixby button and apk's.
all the time, especially when im trying to use the volume buttons as a shutter for the camera.
all the time...
Never
Maybe because I'm left-handed ?
I have my Bixby button remapped to the flashlight but would rather it not be there. Everyone seems to want it remapped to okay google but all you have to do is say okay google.
I've disabled it to do nothing.

Package disabler pro, disable everything bixby
Yes. I tend to mistake the bixby button for the volume down key.
And I still hate the fingerprint scanner placement!
It was posted earlier in this thread that all you have to do is use package disabler pro and disable the Bixby apk's. It is really easy. Yes, you have to pay for package disabler pro in the play store.
At this point Bixby has straight up given up trying if I accidentally press the button.
I have it remapped to Google Now for now.
New to Android. Is there a way to disable bixby while the phone is locked. I enjoy the features it offers but I do not like how it opens with an accidental press in my pocket.

While the keyboard is opened and long pressing the Bixby button, the keyboard switches to Bixby voice recognition but I'm getting a network connection error.
Any idea?
Bixby isn't fully functional yet

Update...
Running with stock non-US firmware the same method navigates to Bixby.
Another update.... Maybe there is a way to make it work?

I was searching around on how to remove the stock junks and found this thread that shows how to uninstall apps by using adb commends. (https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/how-to/how-to-remove-oem-bloatware-s8-s8-t3654687 ) And I just got rid of anything that has bixby in it....
Bixaction was not working properly at the moment, so I thought I'd give a try and yes, it did seem to work. Now bixby is gone. Swiping to the left and pressing the button does nothing. One drawback is it completely killed the button, too which I'd love to
keep and remap it to something useful. Removed some stock app as well. Restarting the phone has no issues. Now I wonder if there's anyway to make that dead button work again
Thx w2830 It's a great idea, I removed bixby and other stuff
Here another turorial : https://www.xda-developers.com/uninstall-carrier-oem-bloatware-without-root-access/
Don't hate the Bixby. It doesnt support my language at the moment but i believe it has some future.
By the way, does remapping app work?
After removing what I did, no. BixAction stopped working which makes sense. I have some ideas in my head and will be testing them out
Ohhhh. You are better off disabling them thru the working app than removing completely. If u decide you need them later, you end up having to reset your device vs 1 click re enable. Bxactions beta is case in point. He now has it working better. Now you need the voice piece to use it.
Your phone, your choice.

lol... anyways.
just reinstall bixby voice. its the only module needed for bx actions to communicate with the bixby service/button
or flash back stock. learn your lesson in disabling a package instead of removing it and then just leave Bixby voice untouched.

i hope that you do!
So, I disabled bixby from package disabler (from the play store). All packages except the Bixby Voice which is tied to the button. Then remapped with BX action to launch assistant. Hope this helps.

How did u remap the button to Google Assistant?
No need to remove. I use it to turn on Bluetooth while on the go.

BXactions to remap to bixby, this is before disabling anything, then go to app info on bixby and delete storage and cache >> disable all bixby packages except for bixby voice.

Do one need to use ADB commands for BXactions ?

I wish not to install another app. Thanks btw.
I never clicked ok to enable Bixby when I got my phone. Nothing happens if I push the Bixby button by accident.
I mapped the Side key to turn on the torch, will it be cancelled if I uninstall Bixby Packages except Bixby Voice?
