Phone suddenly reboots at any moment - Moto G4 Plus Questions & Answers

My Moto G4 Plus randomly reboots at any given time.
Sometimes it may last for hours, other it may reboot in 5 minutes.
I have tried stock ROM as well as LineageOS 14.1, have give the same issue.
Does anyone have any idea regarding this?

Ghost Touch while Charging!!

Started using Moto G4 Plus since yesterday and I'm seeing this weird problem. Phone works perfectly fine with no issues but whenever I charge the device, I'm experiencing ghost touch and severe lags. Unable to control the touch and it works fine when its not under charging. Tried different charger and still the same problem. Anyone experiencing the same problem? Should I go for replacement? Please let me know.

Surely, I don't have that issue. While charging, my device gets a bit hot but never had any touch issues. Touch and display are the best part of this device so I would recommend you go for a replacement.
Experiencing the same from the day I received mine. So mine is a defective one or is it normal?

Same issues on my new Moto G4 Plus while using the default turbo charger. Used another charger and no issues yet. Thinking of replacement.
It happens with me when the battery is less than or close to 15%. Otherwise no issues.
This occurs with a charger that supplies current at 2A for me. Ground the charger, or use a lesser amperage charger, and the phone works fine. The problem is with the charger, and not the phone. I believe you will face the same problem if you replace the phone. You can't get it fixed with a charger replacement either.
Of course, that is no justification for the issue.
I got my g4+ just yesterday the only problem I'm having with it is that it gets extremely hot while charging for evn 10mins so I changed back to my old Sony charger n it's working just fine no heating issues while over iseage or gaming(online MC4) or charging either....
But it problem is different....
Still I suggest u to try using a 1A or 2A Sony or Samsung charger n it shld b fine....I guess
Same problem here. Returned the phone.
can someone explain what is ghost touch & i really don't get the point what does it mean.
just planning to buy this device in this week.

It means when we connect the given(turbo) charger to phone....the phone starts to take random touches on the screen ( till the phone is locked and reopened) The frequency of the touches are so high that we can't even open the settings menu..... It seems like this issue is with only few unlucky ones, better to replace the phone at service centre!
same issue for my g4 plus too.
I also reported this issue to moto forum, i was not aware it is ghost touch.

Is this bug in device or charger issue ?
I am facing this issue when connecting device to laptop using usb cable.
going to format device and check again if this is present or not, any one already tried this?

This happens only if you're using a duplicate charger, try charging your device with other branded chargers like samsung, asus and check if the problem is resolved. if the problem is resolved, replace charger. cheers

Its pretty bad. Its not just the over heating, its the throttling part after the heating that's a pain in the....
Within 10-12 mins of continuously taking pics the camera ui starts lagging badly and within 15 mins the camera app just crashes. The threshold for taking videos is even lower, as within 2 minutes the camera starts having problem keeping the focus and the camera app just crashes around 2 n a half minutes of taking videos.
If u haven't yet bought the phone, and camera is a priority don't buy it...

Today is last day for return of my moto g 4 plus.
Have same issue of Ghost touch & overheating while using camera & charging.
A bit confused since don't have any other choice of brand/model.
6 of my friends returned their phone since was with no solution even after replacement.
Any clue if issue can be resolved with OTA ?

Ghost charge can be solved by using a different charger. Please note that i haven't personally had this issue, but saw most people commenting that the issue went away after using another charger.
About the overheating in general, we have been breaking our heads on the lennovo forums to make them understand the issue but they keep saying that the heat is normal and the forum Manager in his solution said that they can't do anything about it.
About the camera app, they said they are looking into the issue and working on a camera update that will allow for longer video recording durations. But that just means that we will still have to adjust and if u wanna record something that's of a long duration, for example a music concert, u will probably never be able to do that on this phone..

I have discovered here the solution for this too, my xt320 and xt687 haves this problem. Do the following:
Charge your phone with the entyre charger cable in rect line.by a long distance between the charger and the phone.
Doing this, the screen works well, because NO magnectic interference is generated by the charger and No captative magnectic interference
By the touchscreen
That is all.

Are you using tempered glass screen protectors? this is common issue on turbo charged phone when using those. I have 2 moto g4 plus and both act the same.
Cheap chargers and cheap screen protectors will do that.
Maybe it's a software issue, try flashing cyanogenmod.

I had the same problem
I also faced a similar issue, i.e. ghost touch when charging.
The screen-guard is certainly not the issue, as the problem occurs only when charging.
Try different charges to confirm that the problem is not charger specific.
I found on the internet that it was a software issue and can be fixed by visiting a service center.
I had tried factory resetting but it was of no use.
Since I had discovered the issue on the first day, I got it replaced from amazon.
You should try updating the software.
Download and flash the stock ROM.
Or try a custom ROM.
If nothing helps, un-root your phone and take it to a service center.

From what I've seen it's a really common issue, the same is happening to my moto G4 (not plus). In lenovo forums this is the official answer forums . lenovo . com /t5/Moto-G4-Moto-G4-Plus-Moto-G4/moto-g4-plus-charging-issue-quot-ghost-touch-quot/m-p/3346441#M845

Hi Abdelaziz,
The issue you are facing coz u used another charger, the charger probably caused damage to your battery, and as u have mentioned that this issue has also occured when u are not charging..that means you battery is surely affected. and as per my past xperience this will keep getting worse. i will xplain u why this happens.
moto g4 plus's processor throttles at a very high rate which inturn asks for more power from the battery to keep it going. and since your battery is already damaged by ur another charger.. ur battery is unable to keep up with ur device..and that leads to ghost touching. automatic operating..u will also tend to face battery drain.
solution: Get ur battery replaced ASAP. i hope this helps.:fingers-crossed:

Device randomly shut down, have to plug in to boot again.

I recently RMAd my device due to the battery issues, the day I got my new device it decided to shut itself off and would not power on again until plugged in. Today it happened to me again while browsing Google + it shut down, no power down message, nothing. Could not power on to recovery or bootloader, once again had to plug it in to get it to boot. I was wondering if anyone else had had this issue? Has happened on stock and on Pure Nexus. The device does not do it over and over, just once and then it's fine.

So this time it happened on stock 7.1.1 running the March security update? I've only had this happen one time ever, and it was on M. Never on N. What does Accubattery say your current battery capacity is?
It sounds like they might have sent you another lemon. My phone is 8 months old and I have never experienced that problem on stock or any custom ROM, including Pure Nexus. Personally I would consider doing another RMA if possible. That simply shouldn't be happening.

This time it happened on PN latest security patch, current battery capacity is 103% so it's not the battery, after "jumping" it with a charger it's been running fine all day.

G4, G5, V10, and possibly V20 infinite bootloop.

I am looking for any info from anyone that has experienced the infamous bootloop. Not sure if it has happened on the V20 but we all know about the others. I have a theory I am testing out and need as much info as possible. I experienced this twice on the V10, my son on the G4, and now my brother on the V10. The one thing we all had in common is the use of two lg batteries. If you notice when you reboot your phone with it unplugged you will always drop at least 2%. I had multiple times on the V10 where I would put in a full battery after draining the previous and it registered as a much much lower percent(in the red). It got to where I would have to wait a minute or two before booting and plug the phone in for it to register at 100. It wasn't too long after this that I experienced my first bootloop on the V10. The way android started changing battery stats on Lollipop, I feel didn't and doesn't play nice with swapping batteries. This is why I am looking for more info. I know what Lg and others claim about a contact pin, but I am starting to think bs.. I really would like to get more info because this could just be a crazy coincidence.
As a v10 user who has experienced the boot issue I didnt have any problems with the phone reading my factory batteries correctly, I did have problems with the phone reading aftermarket battery packs. What would happen is the phone would claim it was out of juice but turning it off, unplugging then plugging the battery back in would give me 40% of the battery back.
When my phone boot looped it was after it was on the charger and not being used when i took it off the charger and started to use it that's when it hard locked and i had to pull the battery to reboot it...At this point it never stopped rebooting.
I used the freezer method to just see if its the same issue, putting it in the freezer for 10 minutes made the phone work for a little bit after.
The issue is a poor solder connection aggravated by the fact the snapdragon 808 getting excessively hot. Its not a coincidence that all these phones that have the boot issue (v10, g4 and nexus 5x) are running the same processor. I think these are the only phones that really have the boot loop issue.
Essentially I think it's LGs poor construction and the snapdragon 808 excessive heat that causes it. If neither issue existed I don't think the problem would exist.
I don't think the g5 and v20 boot loop issues are related to hardware failures I think it's more people screwing up their own phones by rooting or modding (which happens all the time) but since the g4 bootloop issue is so prolific its easy to assume the boot loops on the g5/v20 are the same.

My Gflex 2 bootloop with a 810
Sent from my LG-LS997 using Tapatalk
I had a V10 it went into the boot loop. I did use multiple OEM LG batteries. I sent it in and they repaired it. I also think it has something to do with heat and something on the main board failing After Time. The ticket said RF and main boards replaced when I got it back from LG
My V20 bootloops if I use a stock ROM of any kind. But if I put an AOSP ROM like AICP or the sort it has no problems. I'll probably fix it temporarily and see what T-Mobile can do about it.

The 810 has even more issues with heat in fact in some reviews the 808 performed better because the 810 consistently throttles in response to overheating.

I guess there's two kind of root-cause for the LG's infamous bootloop issues. One issue that many G4 users has faced is the bad soldiering on the SoC. When the SoC is hot enough, the soldering connection get loose and put the phone into infinite bootloop. This one can be helped only by replacing the whole mainboard, or by re-flowing process (either try ur luck or go to professionals).
Another type of bootloop (I've faced with my G Flex 2) is the battery issue. The battery control chip inside the battery died (maybe a fuse has been blown). That cause the phone to receive incorrect battery information and eventually make it shut-down. I've replaced the battery of my G Flex 2 and after that, it has been working so far.
For V20, so far, I've never heard from anyone about any bootloop issue yet. Maybe it's a bit early as the phone is fairly new.

I have had no issues with the V20 so far, except for the massive drop in battery after a reboot. I added it in case others have experienced it.
"Bootloop of death" finally hit V10.
It turned off itself and only shows LG on the screen.
I am curious with v10 owners on what month your phones were manufactured, mine was Nov 2015 and it crapped out in January 2017 (naturally).
What I am curious about is if phones made post jan 2016 have this issue. Why this date? This is when LG announced this issue. I am curious if they just ignored it and sent out defective units anyway or if they actually fixed it.
The V20 shouldn't be affected since it's a different chipset while the v10/g4 have the same chipset. The 820 (g5/v20) also doesn't get nearly as hot as the 808 did.
One thing's for sure with the lawsuit against them and all the negative publicity (almost every facebook post the company makes someone comments about the boot loop) of this problem I am sure they learned a lesson.
Sent from my LG-H918 using XDA-Developers Legacy app
I thought I read on Android central LG is now honoring the V10 up to 24 months of warranty. I have a V10 at home so I guess good to know. It was made in Nov 2015. Hasn't bootlooped yet, but I only use one it as a portable hifi music player and it just sits in airplane mode.
