After u install twrp recovery you don't modify your stock rom though no ota updates.but u can replace it with stoct recovery again.. if u mess up with stock rom yeah u can get it from the above link ..

i am asking about re partition...i am not asking about briking device or flashing stock rom...

Did modify the system partition or only the internal storage?

i have not changed yet.....i am asking if i change the partition of system and data partition...then i will be able to flash stock rom or problems will occur...

Ok, now changing the size of the system partition may create problems if you try to flash the stock img files, I think

ok..i will try that... ?

Whatever you do, don't reduce the size of the system partition, if you want to flash stock ROM later...zips should work fine though. I have seen people repartition xiaomi mi 3 phones and install custom roms.

What are you hoping to achieve with changing the partitions (e.g. are you changing the format of the partitions to ext4 or f2fs? Or are you changing the sizes of the partitions)?
If you're changing the partition sizes, I personally would leave the sizes alone, unless you're confident in the size of the partition that the stock ROM would need (and need in the future). From what I see on my device running Nougat NPJS25.93-14.4, cache (ext4) is 256 MB, system (ext4) is 2.5 GB and data (f2fs) takes up the rest of my internal storage.
As for changing formats, I don't know if the stock ROM will work with a system partition not formatted as ext4. Cache may or may not work with f2fs. Again, what are you hoping to achieve?

I want that nobody can flash stock rom on my phone normally....i have cerberus installed as root and if any theif can install firmware so that is useless and theif can enjoy using my phone...so i want to change partition sizes to make it difficult for anyone to flash factory images.

Speaking from my humble (and maybe ignorant) opinion,
I had a few experiences modifying partitions from other devices in the past (i did it no more than 3-4 times), i can say that when you flash a full stock factory image, normally, all the partitions recover his original sizes and formats.
All the devices that i modified included the General Partition Table (gpt.bin) file and the FSTAB config instructions into his full factory images, and from what i saw on the G4 plus, it includes these files too.
Here you have the complete partition table list taken from my G4 plus running 7.0 (NPJS25.93-14-4).

ohhh thanks ?

[Q] Boot Looping: NexusHD2-JellyBean-CM10_v1.2

I just install Jellybean after having problems with my prior OS gingerbread. It hangs in a loop for the booting screen. I used CyberMod to backup and install the zip. I thought everything was find but apparently not. Any thoughts.... Stuck in Loop'sville
system partition too small?
bent battery pin?
leftover junk on the fat32 partition?
didn't wipe data when changing rom families?
I think you didn't wipe data in recovery

That wouldn't matter if he changed the partition size for the new ROM (and JB usually requires a much higher partition size than GB), but if not then yeah OP try that and all of samsamuel's suggestions. Also, from a quick Google search CyberMod appears to be a ROM? How exactly did you use that to backup and flash a zip? If you have MAGLDR, then you should never use 3rd party apps to do things like that.
try this, worked for me
system partition size : 180
cache : 5

Safestrap File Hiearchy Location?

Does anyone know where safestrap boot is physically located?
I was going to replace my stock rom (its borked for reasons unrelated to safestrap) but I'm unsure as to where the safestrap boot files are located.
Are they on stock rom /boot or /system. I'm hoping that if I just leave /boot alone I could just flash over /system and be ok but I wanna make sure I correct in assuming this as I dont want to lose access to safe strap.
to put it another way would flashing over stock /system wipeout the safestrap boot?
Thanks in Advance

If you're replacing your stock slot, I believe you need to reinstall safestrap, and you'll have to install root before you reboot if your ROM doesn't have it already. I know ROM slots are in the data partition, but i'm pretty sure it has files in /system to get the splash on boot.

Thanks for the reply.
I have one more question if anyone knows, I have a good stable rom in rom slot 1 and have made a backup so I have a system.ext4.win file.
So can I just switch to my stock rom slot and restore using this file
or perhaps rename it system.img and use adb to flash it to my system partition?
I'm unsure since I made the rom slot system partition 1800MB what would happen if I tried to flash this to my stock slot
would it just install the files to the full system partition or change my stock partition to 1800MB or would it not even work as the partition size probably do not match.
Sorry for all the question if I have a normal recovery id just flash away but don't wanna lose safe strap and have to terminal my way back in.
Thanks in advance

Encryption that can't be formated

Hi,
I set up TWRP 2.8.7.0 and cm-13.0-20160129 on my Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE-A (GT-I9506), and run into an odd problem where it would work after install, but would not work after a reboot (booting screen would just roll for ever). Installing CM again, would work, and than the problem would still be there. Mindlessly I decided to play a little anyway and set up encryption. The phone ended up rebooting, and not loading, so I'm here without a password (default_password doesent work) and with an encrypted /data that TWRP cant wipe or format
Unable to mount storage.
Unable to decrypt data
Unable to wipe '/data' -- unknown file system 'auto'
Unable to format to remove encryption

I've attempted to use ADB to format it, but it seems parted isnt installed. With that phone being a less popular variant I'm kind of afraid to just flash whatever there, but I guess I need a recovery with a least parted, or possibly one that would be able to format the drive itself. Any pointers?
Have you tried flashing a stock ROM via Odin? Is this your phone: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/GT-I9506/ ?
not yet; I don't have windows, and didn't see any point in changing the soft used for flashing, will try but cant download the polish rom at the moment o0 (ends up with a dead link or a server down?)
I know of no other way to flash a stock ROM from sammobile.com other than Odin.
Did you create a free account on sammobile.com to enable the regular download?

You can also flash it with Heimdall. It's the open source variant of Odin.
aaaand I'm back, managed to download, got some windows, flashed to stock using odin, and it's still encrypted. is running 'repartition' from odin safe? I've noticed some warnings against it but without any explanations.
edit; running the same operation with repartition failed. this bloody encryption might be able to survive nuclear war.
After flashing back to stock via Odin, did you perform a factory wipe before booting the rom for the first time?
I assume you have a pit file for the phone since you repartitioned?

never managed to do that. I wonder what advantage does the wipe from factory ROM have over custom recoveries... anyways thanks to all who helped, the issue is solved. also it seems that the problems with non-rebooting CM were my mistake of not wiping the cache/dalvik after install
I find that a wipe using a custom recovery is not always as through as a stock recovery. Can't say how or why, it's just based on my experience with Samsung and Nexus phones.

I think the difference is that a custom recovery only wipes /data partition so that the internal sdcard will not be wiped. The stock recovery formats /data partition. When you want to lose encryption you need to format /data partition.
You can also format the /data partition with a custom recovery, but that option is hidden for good reason. Because it will also format your internal sdcard and that's not something we want to do when changing roms.

Oneplus 5 Partitions and purposes?

So after moving to this phone form a rather humble galaxy nexus the partition layout is much more complex I know what a lot of the partitions do but a few I have no clue.
So in the interest of explorations let's see if you guys can help fill me in:
Boot (Self explanitory the boot partition for the kernel bootstrap)
Cache (Self explanitory the standard android cache partition)
Recovery (Recovery partition where TWRP goes or stock recovery)
System (System partition that is in use aka the OS)
System Image (??? What is this an image of system as shipped form factory?)
Data (User data partition)
Modem (??? The factory modem drivers?)
EFS (I hear this is the IMEI MAC and other modem setting the phone needs for connectivity)
Question mainly revolves around the system image partition I take it this is put in place to recover from a very bad flash from factory. Out of curiosity does this every get overwritten say during official updates? I'm curious if anyone knows if it's possible to get the system image partition back after a wipe it's a possible mod say after warranty period although right now I wouldn't touch that 3GB partition.
It's supposedly a "feature" of TWRP used to create a stock ROM image in case you ever want to restore to the original ROM or when you want to get OTA updates.
Don't know how accurate that info is, as I've just found it by googling a bit. It's present on other, older, phones too. So it's definitely not unique to OnePlus.

OP6T partion A/B

Hello,
I read about partition A/B, but I would like to have more insight some points are not really clear in my head.
My OP6T is rooted on partition B, everything works fine on this partition
On partition A, It automatically boot into recovery
How can I have a fresh install on both partition ?
Does I have to root both partition ?
You don't have to root both partitions, your second partition is probably blank, you can flash a rom to that partition or just let it be, its not a must have for a working device and generally when you root magisk inserts intself into both partitions.

Ok, thank you for quick answer.
how do you flash a rom only on one partition ?
when you wipe in TWRP, does it wipe both or only one partition ?
I would like to have both partition at the same stage of update in case one get broken.
It is possible to make a copy of one partition to the other ?

Well the whole point of two partitions is to have one in the previous state if an update breaks the current one...
You can flash one of the fastboot roms or full zips available in the general section, but you may have to modify the zip files to only flash to a single slot as the zips currently flash to both slots.

that's my point, I want to copy my partition B to my partition A, then modify one or the other, for a period they will be at the same state but this will rapidly change

Only system / boot are concerned by the slot organization. Read general texts and tutorials about that and fastboot use. Everything needed is on the internet.
