So I followed this https://forum.xda-developers.com/ta...wrp-install-twrp-root-samsung-galaxy-t3111934 and the best thing ever happened..... Nothing.....
It's a sprint galaxy tab 4 7 inch updated to 5.1.1 SW version T237PVPS1BPL1
So how do I really root?
When in download mode, after flashing twrp, holding power, vol+, and home takes me back to download mode. If i start with device on (or off) and do exact same method, I get stock recovery.
I'm no noob, but most has been htc where the bootloader has to be unlocked first. I have recently rooted 2 samsung s5 devices for my brother doing odin to flash recovery and then flashing superSu. And i have used that crappy app on my tab that floods your device with bloatware (king root) that set off my knox crap. Which has been removed and I lost root.
I'm also aware that some devices, if you don't get into custom recovery as soon as it is installed, then factory one takes over.
So i flash recovery, and progress bar shows finished, but if i hold power, vol+, and home.... It just goes back to download mode.
If I reboot the device, and then hold down above said task, it goes to factory recovery.
Does this fall in the "don't reboot device and go straight to recovery" device? If so, how?
Or, is it not installing recovery?
And why do I get download mode from download mode, and recovery mode from device on/off in normal mode while holding same buttons in each situation?

Has anyone successfully rooted the OTA version of 5.1.1 lollipop? I tried CF-Autoroot, and soft-bricked my tabled... I got a "Pass" using Odin 3.7 and 3.10 but each time it only got back to the animated Samsung logo and got stuck there for hours. Only way out of it was to hard reset, and then re-flash a stock 5.1.1 downloaded directly from Samsung... I am just wondering if there is an updated Towelroot, Cf-Autoroot file, or some other method which will ONLY give me root access. I don't want to which from stock rom, because there isn't a custom one with ALL features working properly. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx
*Also again, if you tried any root method and you are stuck at the animated Samsung logo, then just boot your device into "Download" mode by powering off and then powering back on holding "Power + Down Volume + Home" keys, then press UP when asked if you want to enter DOWNLOAD mode... then flash the STOCK 5.0.1 or 5.1.1 firmware using ODIN 3.10. Click the "AP" tab, then choose the stock firmware file, and don't change ANY options.
Begin the flash, and it will take maybe 15 min and your tab will boot back up no prob. If you DO encounter a problem while flashing, then reboot into recovery mode by powering off then power on holding "Power + UP volume + Home" then choose "Wipe Data Factory Reset", then "Wipe Cache", and then REBOOT. Then Perform the first steps listed again (Download mode) and try the Odin Flash again. This should work, for any SMT330 device, I have tested this method myself.*
hello,
i've got a weird problem for some time now. i already have a workaround but it always requires me to hook the phone up to a pc.
the problem: after rebooting the phone to recovery, it gets stuck there.
i had this with cm12, cm12.1, temasek cm12.1, phronesis 2 and darklord N5 so i suppose the problem is not related to the roms itself.
if i long press power from running android and select reboot -> recovery the phone boots to recovery as expected.
whatever i do, after hitting reboot -> system in recovery it reboots to... recovery.
removing the battery for 5 minutes does not help.
the phone just keeps booting to recovery. the one fix i found so far is a mere workaround:
force download mode (vol down + home + power), hook it up to my pc, launch odin and flash twrp-2.8.7.0-hlte-4.4.img.tar
this gets my phone to properly boot into normal android, but it always requires a pc. so using CM Updater oder CyanDelta with automatic installation of updates always gets me stranded in recovery while on the go.
what can i do to avaid this recovery bootloop? sure, i can just boot into recovery manually (vol up + home + power), but i suppose there is a real "fix" for this. do i have the wrong recovery? did i pick 5 roms with all the same bug?
this is really really annoying, especially if i forget about the problem and reboot into recovery from long-press power...
my N3 is a n9005 running on custom roms since late 2014 (i.e. i havent got all the official OTA updates which may be available)
A client brought in her phone (S4-i337) that was in recovery mode, at first i thought it was something simple but not really. At first i did a wipe data but it couldn't boot up instead after rebooting, it went back to recovery mode. Surprisingly, this phone boots up normally when you try to boot to download mode. As in, when i press Volume down + Home + Power, instead of it going to download mode, it boots up fully then i happen to use it for until when I restart it. I've updated it to Android 5 using some file that i found on some forum, thought it would help but same case. Members, am out of ideas on what i should do. I've flashed it with Z3X box, but i also get an error, same as Odin. Any help is highly appreciated
What are you flashing to the phone? If it was running a stock 4.4.2 ROM or newer, the bootloader would be locked and AT&T never released a complete Odin firmware flash after 4.1.2.
I followed the forum instructions to flash TWRP onto my N910F Note 4 according to instructions: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=55277852&postcount=3
All works fine. But when I reboot into the bootloader I still get the original bootloaded with the "Downloading Do not turn off target" notice.
On that tutorial it does say at the end that if the recovery hasn't changed then to uncheck the auto-reboot option. Did that, but same again.
What could I do?
Download mode is nothing to do with recovery.
You flashed a custom recovery, therefore you'll need to boot into recovery, not bootloader (download mode in Samsung phones). Power off your phone, then hold power, home and vol up to access the recovery you just flashed.
Sometimes the phone indeed overwrites the newly flashed custom recovery with the stock one, in such cases it usually helps to disable auto reboot in Odin (as you did), holding power+home+both volume buttons to force a reboot, then booting back to download mode and flashing the recovery one more time. Happy flashing!
So here is my situation: SM-G950U with a fresh clean install of stock 9.0 firmware via Odin. Phone reboots, and begins setup. However, I'm met with FRP warning. No big deal, since I know a way around that, but I need to reboot to download mode first and install safestrap to do it. Problem is that neither button hold combination does anything except boot the phone normally. Vol up nor vol down + Bixby + Power provide results from a reboot or a powered off state, except boot the phone normally. I cannot use adb commands either because developer options are not yet enabled because I can't get passed the FRP screen. I should be able to access both modes regardless of what stage of setup the device is in, correct? I know I have before. Is this some kind of security patch? Is there any other way to get to download mode to use Odin? Or a method to bypass FRP without Odin or a custom recovery, or safestrap? I'm really stuck on why I can't force it using the three buttons during boot/reboot. Thanks in advance for your input.
