MSN connection

Hi, is there any way of connecting to MSN by wifi?
Everytime I connect it uses GPRS.

Yes, you need go to Settings -> Connections. Click Advanced tab, Select networks and change 'Prog that automatically connect to the Internet...' to My ISP or My Workplace.
Bear in mind, you'll have to change it back to your telco's internet settings or you won't be able to go to the internet on GPRS.

I have done this, yet still it connects via GPRS. Am I missing something?

I've tried the same options and it still wants to connect by GPRS too.

Are you guys using the stock ROM that came with the phone, particularly if you're on a contract with vodafone/etc?
As I remember some carriers force you to use the data connection rather than the wifi, I can't remember how to fix it though. I use one of the clean ROMS and install applications myself, and mine works fine both on wifi and GPRS/HSDPA with no change of settings inbetween.

i was on Vodafone UK too, couldn't be bothered waiting for Vodafone to sort it, just flashed mine with itje's rom, and re set up everything including MSN working with WiFi.

you'll need to flash to HardSPL first... there's also some info on restoring it to stock SPL for warranty reasons...
also i set up MSN with WiFi, before doing the settings for Vodafone WAP, just in case.

Data Connection issues when connected to PC

Whenever I'm connected to my PC via USB and ActiveSync, I can't seem to turn Wifi or Data Connection (EDGE/3G) on. Is this normal, or is there something wrong with my phone? There doesn't seem to be a problem when I connect it to the charger.

Yes, there's a setting in ActiveSync to allow wireless connections on the phone while it's connected...it's under the "file" menu, look for "connection settings"

Also, is there a way to keep Wifi on even when the screen is off? Right now whenever the screen goes off Wifi seems to disconnect after a while, and when I turn the phone back up it has to reconnect to my Wifi network.

That's also the default behavior of the phone...you'll need to run the cab below to allow wifi to stay on when the screen is off.

Network Disabled Because Internet is Slow!

Anyone can advise? Seem like running out of luck, I try untick all the option in advanced setting still can't connect. Failed to obtained ip and same as the photo attached.

This usually happens on an unreliable network, but to get around this I usually try airplane mode on then off, try to re-connect?

Ooops. Just checked the wifi menu on my note. I expected to find something like "advanced options" in wifi-settings as on my razr HD. There was a check mark that allowed "to connect to networks that are weak". Couldn't find anything like it on my N3. But maybe some one else knows if this is a device thing or rather an android 4.2 vs. 4.3 issue.

The option you need to un-tick is "Auto Network Switch". I had the same issue at work with a poor connection, it would keep giving me the same message you're seeing. Once I disabled auto network switch however it worked just fine. It was right, the internet was slow, but it's better than the non-existent cellular reception underground.....

thanks for the suggestion, but i already untick all of the option and problem still persist.

I have a similar problem, I have a network with no internet connectivity (and want it that way for CCTV) I have to turn off my mobile data first (uncheck it in the data usage screen) than connect to the wifi, or it keeps booting me out.

Are you running the latest firmware? It seems odd to say but I had the same problem with my GoPro for live viewing, updating helped fix the problem.

None of the so called "fixes" work...changing settings. Un tick this.. reset router.. reset phone.. forget all the bad advice. ..
FACT IS...The Note 3 has a WiFi connection fault... hopefully Samsung will fix it.

In battery information it shows what has been going on over time and not only current so if you had wifi on earlier or a day ago and so on it will show there.

No, what I mean is, it shows Wi-Fi is on in battery information even I have off my Wi-Fi for whole day.

in Wifi / advanced uncheck Always Allow Scanning.
once that is unchecked it will completely stop wifi once disabled :good:

Have already unchecked it. But still the wifi show on all the while.
I'm guessing maybe this problem caused by some applications that I have installed.

After Nougat OTA update and Hard Reset, WIFI still DISCONNECTS during SLEEP

SM-G935F Exynos
My wifi keeps disconnecting during sleep after around 8min. It seems like the doze mode kicking in and kills the wifi.
With MM i had the same problem at first but did solve it with factory reset. Now with Nougat it seems a more aggressive problem.
I tried "always" on during sleep, and tried to set it to "never" back out the menu and switch to "always" again.
Reboot. Clear Cache after rebooting in Safemode.
Reset network settings. Tried both 2.4G and 5G.
I have wifi/BT scanning turned off in location setttings.
Tried different router and wifi hotspot without security password.
Tried several Wi-Fi keeper apps.
Disabled battery optimisation for all apps. Disabled app optimization.
So i even did a full factory reset for nothing.. Damn.
When connected to an AC charger, the phone stays connected.
Seems like the familiar Android Bug. Nothing seems to make a difference.
Anyone having the same issues or anyone with a workaround?

EDIT: You really sure your Wlan is not set to "leave enabled when charging" only? Cause that sounds exactly what you're having

I am sure indeed, it is set to "always". Is there a config file or app where this setting applies to? But sure i will need root for that..

I had the same problem. What i did is "Apps - Settings - General Management - Reset - Reset network settings". This has solved the problem in my case.

With the setting "leaving enabled when charging" the phone is completely disconnected when switching the phone on. It uses 4g instead and connects to WiFi when screen on.
With the setting "always on" it seems to still have WiFi on but suspended/doze.
Still when charging it doesn't doze at all only on battery power.
Weird stuff..

exactly same problem here but only in 5Ghz wifi. 2.4Ghz doesnt have this issue. I havent any solutions yet.

Looks like the phone is still connected to the router but not "pingable" for around 10 minutes, then 1 sec pingable and so on.. I see it happen on 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz.
EDIT: Without mobile data ON i don't even receive mails or whatsapp. WTF

i was having the same problem.. after i disabled (WMM APSD) in wifi modem settings (router settings) this problem fixed

Was worth the try. But unfortunately switching WMM off on my Netgear Nighthawk r7000, did not make any difference here..
Which custom ROM will be worth trying, based on different base ROM? Maybe the OnTheEdge S8 rom?
