What are camera blops and how this will affect custom ROM making, and photo quality in those?
Share your thoughts.
If you mean blobs. Basically drivers for the camera, which are needed when running custom roms to get full functionality.
They said the same about dash charge for the 3.
Okay, if it is so then for me this is the reason for not buying the OP5. Without camera blobs we can't ever get the same picture quality with other ROMs as with OOS. Even worst if OnePlus decide to deliver a broken/bugged HAL2 and HAL3 again. Then we can't use another camera app with all functions even on OOS.
Don't worry we'll get them. Official or unofficial. It's just a matter of time.
Is this really a cause of concern?

Yes. Dash charge was not really blobs. More so code in the kernel

Nope it isn't. I own the OP3 from day one and I never can use my own camera apps "Open Camera" and "A better camera" correctly with it.
OP decides to deliver a bugged/broken camera 2-HAL so only their own camera app is able to work with it.
This is since over a year and corresponding to what I read this will never change as OP don't want to fix this.
A lot of people even tried to unbundle the OOS-camera as a solution for other roms but this never worked 100%.

Not working 100% != not working.
We'll get a well working hal3 camera on custom roms. Some things won't be as good or buggy, but atleast we could use the camera.

just "using" the camera isn't good enough , specially that the selling point of all the phone is the camera , and that behind the stupid non-enhanced camera app the OP5 runs , that shooter has some pretty big potential i guarantee that ... why wouldn't they share or publish the camera blobs anyway ? didn't they already share like all the source codes for the phone ? and aren't they supposed to be user and dev friendly ? ... i get disappointed by this phones more n more everyday ...

Pretty sure they didn't release the full blobs for the OP3 or 3T either. They said they don't want companies copying their technology.

Hello everyone,
Now we are having fun with the Lollipop in our device. But our device doesn't seem to support every features of Lollipop. I was longing to use
the new features of android.hardware.camer2 API. But when i tried apps like Manual Camera, L Camera ; they report " It is not supported in your device". Devs isn't there anyway to integrate Camera2 support in any ROMs.
This might be of interest. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/general/moto-g-2014-camera-sensor-t3053476
Heck even newly launched M9 and S6 premium phones camera also don't support all feature of camera 2 api,,, for our moto g ,,this is sure not possible. Its The reason that not even a single OEM go bang on this bad boy api, it requires lot of hardware elements to be in. Don't keep your hopes with Moto g on this ,,I an damm sure even moto x' 14 will not get this
This is the 4th or 5th thread i am going through which talks about Camera API 2.0 its pretty evident that our phones will never ever get the Camera API 2.0 support, please stop creating threads which wont yield anything!!
May I add somthing?
The Moto G has the same camera sensor as the nexus 5, the nexus 5 has camera2 api.
Also the camera2 is no hardware stuff, its an api to controll the camera manually.
Hey, maybe we could get 1080p through some camera2 api majic

I was going to answer that. Our phone is pretty capable of almost everything Camera API 2 provides to N5 (except 4k). If some dev be interested and start dig arround i bet we would end with something. We have all sources from both devices.
4k would be a tiny bit too boss

4k wouldn't be possible i believe because of the SoC pipeline. It would be too much data to be handled.
But things like ISO selection this would be perfectly possible, once on N5 this option was selectable even before camera api v2.

He is a ROM developer dude the software side of things Camera API 2.0 needs support of hardware as well as all those library files and modules. In short a complete rewrite of existing underlying Camera software which is very difficult since it requires proprietary files drivers etc. Seeing S6 or S6 Edge or any other major phone lacking it at the moment i feel we will never it until someone develops an open source driver kinda thing for it
I'm not sure what the big deal is with the camera thing. There are literally dozens of camera apps out there that are as good or better than the stock cameras. On the suggestion of someone at XDA that I forget who, I tried A Better Camera and liked it so much I purchased it. It will save to the SD card and has more features than the standard camera.

Try finding an app for manual focus, RAW support, exposure time and ISO sensitivity.
BTW also try Camera FV5. It kicks A Better Camera's a** in terms of bringing powerful features to your phone.

We are all speculating here, even you. No one has a digged to find if we can use anything from Nexus 5. The ones who has skills for this kind of thing is simply not interested.
The only thing we don't share with N5 is SoC.

Yeah, I am talking about quality on a phone cam sensor. The quality difference is so much that even with naked eye, and even a dull headed person will notice the difference! And I am a DSLR guy by the way!
My biggest issue with CM is that there isn't a good multiwindow implementation yet. I know they're working on it (I think Google, could be CM, not entirely sure who exactly it is that's working on it), but the feature is still in early alpha. I can't use my phone without it. It's like not having a browser or a SIM card.

Why are we working on android Oreo? Should we try to perfect Nougat first. I see this so much with other devices, instead of having a few perfect roms you have a ton of half baked ones.
I'm running this device on Oreo and it works perfectly well for my needs. Its not my day to day tablet, but as a backup tablet, its there when I need it and does what I need it to. Why wouldn't they work on Oreo? There's no such thing as a perfect rom and nobody is ever going to make one due to limitations in hardware and open source drivers etc....
Personally, I'm happy that they have brought the latest incarnation of Android to this device and look forward to watching it improve with each new release.

what are you talking about? Nougat on my RAZR M (just as old as the Nexus 10) runs flawlessly, and everything functions, so yes, there is such a thing as a perfect rom (or at least one with minimal bugs)
Most all roms have all functions on my ancient OG Nexus 7 (albeit a bit slow)
>Running oreo
HW video playback doesn't work, so no youtube app or netflix
Camera is still broken (some people need it for conference calls and hangouts chats)
--flash is broken too (you usually don't need it, but for those few situations you do, this is quite annoying)
Bluetooth wifi bug persists (turning on bluetooth and connecting a device makes wifi slow down and then disconnect)
My point is that we shouldn't just ditch/give up on fixing old bugs just to pursue a newer version of android. I'd rather run stable and fast Nougat than a half baked Oreo or Nougat build any day.
I know development is hard (my build set up errors out like no other) but that is just the reason we need to fix these things before wasting our time on something that will be harder to fix.

Marshmallow is the last version of Android where everything works right on the Nexus 10. I don't have links but from everything I have seen/read, the devs can't do anything about the camera after Marshmallow. Google isn't giving the devs anything to work with anymore so stuff has to be ported or fixed by the devs alone. And I do beleive it has something to do with the hardware. But as it stands, Nougat is pretty flawless except for the camera. And Oreo is getting worked on to fix the HW Video Playback and other bugs which I'm sure they'll get fixed eventually. But most of the issues lie with the hardware. There's nothing much any dev can do about certain bugs. At this point, it's either live with the bugs or move on from the Nexus 10.

Yeah, don't get a nexus 9. Oreo has the same problems (no h/w video decoding, no camera) on N9. I've pretty much given up on Android tablets (I own 4, Touchpad, N10, N9 and Amazon Fire w/ LineageOS), it looks like google has too.

iirc project treble was only for devices shipping with oreo out of the box, and was only a requirement, i.e. you must have a compatible AOSP factory image that is compatible with other treble devices (which doesn't count the N10 as it shipped with 4.2). I'll give that link a read but I as far as I currently know it doesn't support the N10
@Galaxyninja66 to fix the camera you need to port the old api1 camera to nougat/Oreo.
The api2 camera code was removed entirely from Android, that's why the camera stopped working.
The reason nobody is working on this is because it takes a lot of time to do that and none of the active devs even use the camera

I also noticed while poking around in the camera HAL that a TON of values were just missing entirely. I would love a working camera but frankly it doesn't seem worth the work if it means either A: porting a deprecated API or B: rebuilding an entirely new one
