I need help with this one too, please.
I guess the user above that said it is possible meant the Double Tap 2 Wake function that can be enabled by build.prop modification (Guide is here on the forum).
AFAIK there is no knuckle gestures for this device. But I might be wrong...
Marshmallow ROM had a useful 'My Places' feature hidden in the settings together with a handay Edge panel to support it.
Has anyone found it (or a way of getting it) on the Nougat beta?
Yes, it was removed.

1. Root>product>etc>prop>local.prop change ro.config.hw_easywakeup=false to "true"
2. system>emui>base>xml>hw_easywakeupmotion_config.xml , in "EasyWakeUpMotion name="Double_Touch" support="1" value="0" flag="0" keycode="131" />" change "value=1" .
Reboot and enable in phone settings.
It works on my L21C432B380.
it doesn't work on L31C432B370

Strange, OK, save settings from my first post, go to system/build.prop and add (write) this line
ro.config.hw_easywakeup=true , save. The same in vendor/build.prop , reboot .

no, nothing.
It's not about your firmware, it's about your phone. Huawei P9 Lite doesn't recognize touches while asleep. You can't change it as long as you don't change any of the hardware.

It's supported but not enabled by default, that's all. And it works on A6 and A7. Have a nice day!

Also, it wouldn't make much sense. They probably won't update to A8, so why would they build in a feature and not let it be normally enabled?
It is more or less standard for Pie, but apparently there is no such setting on Mi 9T
