Recent Apps Key is not responding in custom ROMs - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

Welcome again!
I am having one problem with my J500F- The "Recent Apps' key is not responding on any custom ROM, it is not phisically found in hardware (checking with system information software) BUT it is working in recovery mode with no problem (as i remember properly key: 253) and it works on stock 5.1.1 ROM.
Is there any way to "bind" this key as "recent apps" key through software?
My device: Galaxy J500F, TWRP 3.1 or CWM, 5.1.1 Bootloader, Resurrection Remix 5.8.3 or LOS 14.1

[Q] No Recovery after CM upgrade

Hello,
hopefully someone could help me solve my issue.
i've installed the latest nightly of cm 12.1 today overwriting my previous installation of cm11 with a build from january.
the recovery i used so far was twrp.
after upgrading cm to 12.1 i can no longer access the recovery. the phone shows a black screen and reboots when i press the power button.
i've tried reflashing current and older (2.7) versions of twrp with odin but with no success.

You should have flashed official lollipop first, to get the latest bootloader. And you should begin there. And then flash twrp for your rom and cm12.1 using twrp.
Use a cm12.1 rom from development forums instead. E.g temaseks.
so just to make it clear for the dummy kind of user which i seem to be the necessary steps are:
1. getting a stock lp rom and flash this
2. flashing a custom recovery
3. flashing custom rom (e.g. temaseks or standard cm12.1)
Does the Phone have to be rooted for these steps? It looks like it has lost its root status with the update to 12.1 or when i tried to re-flash the broken recovery partition.
thanks for your patience.

Solution for TWRP 2.8.x 6.0+ Custom Rom flashing problem

Hi all! I'm new here (at least at account level) and with my first thread I want to help people which can't flash 6.0+ roms in official 2.8.x TWRP for our Moto X 2013 (like @dziarski in TWRP 2.8.7.0 thread).
I have Moto X 2013 (XT1052 model for reference) and I unlock bootloader, root and put costum roms not so long ago but here out to resolve this.
You need to upgrade your TWRP because TWRP <3.x don't support 6.0+ rom flashing well (edit: mochi579 below report twrp 2.8.7.0 can work for flashing too even I recommend latest 3.0.x version for avoid all problem especially with 7.x roms). I advice you to check out unofficial TWRP 3.0.2-0 by fantastic TeamMEX here.
This updated version grant you to flash both 6.0+ and 7.0 roms (tested myself) without any error.
There are my ROMs test to try this TWRP:
Legenda: (Android version)
TWRP 2.8.6.0 official:
Resurrection Remix 5.7.4 (6.0.1) -> failed immediately with this error
Code:
E: Error executing updater binary in zip "/..."
Error flashing zip "/..."
After some research I understood I need to updated my TWRP and here's the result
TWRP unofficial 3.0.2-0 by @TeamMex:
RR 5.7.4 (6.0.1) again -> succes without problem (I use right now)
CM13 (6.0.1) -> succes
CM14 (7.0) -> succes
OctOS Oct-M (6.0.1) -> succes
Xperience 11.0.0_rxx (7.0) -> succes
All succes without any error during flashing.
Just in case I want to add my step even its very common:
1) Make a NANDroid backup if I don't have it already
2) Wipe Cache, Data, System, ART/Dalvick cache
3) Optional factory reset (cache,art/dalvik and data)
4) Flashing ROM + Gapps from OpenGapps (remember to select ARM)
5) Reboot and finish
If there's a problem in the post or its wrong place (its here or Q&A) please let me know
Thank you WOrld1. But I'm flashing cm13, cm 14 & xpe 11 using TWRP 2.8.7.0 and it's working perfect except some known bugs.

Hi,
I was using 2.8.6.0 because in the root thread by Kidjoe here in General he write about a possible read error about SD card in the phone (clearly a bug because we don't have it xD), so my experience with 2.8.7.0 is zero unfortunately but I think it's very similar.
I have zero problem flashing the rom I listed, for various reason some mod I flashing more than one time (never because flashing problem, usually rom itself problem or just jumping back and forth).
I flash xperience 2 times, cm13/14 and OctOS one time and Resurrection Remix many times if we include backup when coming back from these ROMs.
The only know bug I experienced in 3.0.2-0 is slow flashing in "normal" condition. Just follow the note in the op of recovery thread:
Code:
NOTE: If you have slow format on ext4 go to Settings->Use rm -rf instead of formatting
Copy pasted from TeamMEX thread.

[7.1.1 and 7.1.2] Reboot To Recovery Fix

I have seen that many people are having trouble in rebooting into the Recovery using the Advanced Restart Power Menu or the Quick Settings Reboot Tile on all the Nougat Roms like Lineage OS 14.1 and Resurrection Remix. The fix is very simple. You just need Root permissions to reboot directly into the recovery I have tried this on all the Nougat Roms which have this problem and Root fixes all of them. It is practically not a bug. The Roms come with no root permissions by default that is why this is happening. LOS 14.1 users flash the Root addon and RR users flash Magisk v12 or whichever is the latest version.
thank you

Flashing Magisk in TWRP Making Bootup Hang

Hello!
I am beyond frustrated by this constantly reappearing issue. No matter what I've tried, I simply cannot seem to get Magisk to work correctly with number of different Andoid ROMS.
Currently I'm on: Bootleggers 4.0 Android PIE (Stable - Shishuffed?)
Everything works fine, but as soon as I flash Magisk in recovery, the following bootup will show the background of booted up phone with a text in the middle appears: "Phone is starting..." And it stays that way until I force reboot by holding down the power button.
The flashable zip file itself causes no problems that I could see. It all looks fine during the install.
I also tried my luck with SuperSU but on that I get the Failure to patch Sepolicy error (regardless if I set Sepolicy Enforced or Disabled).
I just cannot seem to get a root working... The only time it worked without any issues is when I tried out the crdroid rom, but that was probably because the rom comes with su addon (nether magisk nor supersu)
If I could install THAT addon to Bootleggers, I'd be happy but flashing the su addon zip doesn't do anything as I suspected, but tried it anyway.
The versions of Magisk I tried were: 17.3, 18.0 and 18.1
My twrp is the one with experimental decyrption support - a feature that works perfectly without a hitch btw.
I would appreciate any and all help offered.
I would just like to have some kind of a supersu working.. After research, there were a few mentions of KingoRoot but I do not want to go that route - if possible.

Have you tried to change your twrp? What's the exact file name of it? Did you tried magisk 17.1?

Phone is starting is a bug on cr droid, los also. I don't know fixes. But don't worry you are not the only one with this issue.
Try Magisk beta 19.0. I had the same problem as you with 18.0 and 18.1, but 19.0 solved it for me...

HELP! How to reset only 'System Settings' from TWRP? OP8 Pro Bricked after enabling Parallel Apps!

Oneplus 8 pro stock OS, summer 2020, magisk rooted and unlocked, no gapps (microG)
I'm now reading that "parallel apps" were broken until Nov 2020, and I'm sure I have the updates just before that... Tried enabling Parallel Apps and it was taking forever, but after locking/unlocking screen it 'enabled' it but the parallel one was nowhere to be found.
After restarting, it's now endlessly trying to start android but it doesn't....
Any way to custom delete "Parallel Apps" from the filesystem on Recovery mode TWRP???
OR - How to reset ONLY "System Settings" to defaults from filesystem or TWRP?
OR - Can I flash the latest OxygenOS from TWRP without issues?
pls help my phone is bricked!!
Your phone is not bricked at all. Maybe you could call it a software brick.
You should be fine flashing a OOS rom from TWRP or fastboot without erasing your data.
I dont understand why you run oos from 2020 but thats on you.

What i would do is try to figure out parallel apps "data" folder and delete it's data in twrp file manager section.
