I am about to get a GT-P6800 from the Netherlands.
I live in Portugal.
The firmwares seem to be very "country specific" and even "carrier specific".
I'll be buying a carrier free version.
What problems can be anticipated for my usage?
Thanks

As I am sure this thread will be moved to Q&A, where it belongs, I will quickly answer, my device is also carrier-free, but it is from Hong Kong, and came with ZSLA TGY firmware (Hong Kong-based). However, I was able to flash several non-Hong Kong firmwares without any problems. SOME users, mainly from the middle east, but from other places, as well, have had problems with flashing firmware not intended for their device. I have built a ROM based on XXLA4 firmware, from Switzerland, and it appears to work with most, if not all, GTP6800's, so, if you are planning on switching firmware, XXLA4 firmwares would be a good choice. If you don't switch firmware, you should be fine...
Also, one last note, the non-ODIN ROMs in this thread will not change your radio/modem, so that relieves a major concern in terms of switching firmware.
Hope this helps.

Thank you. It does help.
So, may I gather that updates via Kies do not correlate where Kies is being run from (i.e IP from Portugal) vs. the firmware version, in what relates to release country?
I am thinking mainly of the stock ICS upgrade, which is just around the corner...After that, it's no problem, as I intend to customize the device.
I am just worried that Kies just won't offer the ICS upgrade, if it detects the discrepancy.
(Sorry, for the wrong forum posting...Noobs will be noobs, I guess...)

I believe that is correct, although I am not a Kies user. It is correct with OTA updates...
Last weekend I bought one in the Netherlands and it had out of the box thx XXLA4 version.

There are many samsung firmware builds, just for i9505 and i9500 itself there are many different firmware variations.
From what I understand, different regions uses different modems am I right? If not, then why do Samsung update their firmware based on different regions?
When Android 4.3 was released, it was released as per region and to Russia first. Why cant they just send out one uniform update OTA to all devices of that model? If its because of the modems, then why dont other manufacturers like HTC do the same? They are able to push out one HTC update for all international HTC phones...

it s not always because of bandwidth traffics
sometimes they release firmware for test if someone find bug and then solve it for another region (and also with minor update for first regions)
htc released update for htc one world-wide But how u compare samsung with htc
S4 was one of the best sell in history of smartphone (always samsung device do this) so thr s more s4 users than htc one
also it happened for some device for sony xperia
SO be patient
However u can flash stocks roms
download flashable zip of ROM from another region and flash it via Odin
completely stock and without warranty void...

Actually the purpose of this post is to gain some knowledge on how Samsung update goes on... I am very patient I am not rushing to the point I need to flash a custom ROM. So you are saying that each region has their own Samsung tech guy that will work on the initial release to fix bugs before passing to another region?
There are not just more variants of firmware in s4, but also the same for any samsung phone. Does anyone else have their opinion on this matter as well? I would like to get feedback on what people think behind samsung's update procedure.
I'm also interested in having an answer on the subject. If I can flash a firmware from another region on my phone, what's the purpose of having several firmwares...Besides some tweaks apparently.
Wouldn't it be more interesting if all the developers from Samsung focused on the same firmware to eliminate the bugs more rapidly for example? I don't really see the link between several firmwares and the number of users. Ok, the S4 sold by millions, and?
Thanks.
What difference does it make.As long as your getting your updates, why would you care about any other region.
Are you doing a Samsung case study or preparing a lawsuit; otherwise email CEO of Samsung.
I can post his tag if needed..lol

The time discrepancy its coming from carriers. Most of them wants to integrate their own bloatwares in their phones. And some are doing faster than others. That's why there's so many region specific firmwares when its about Touchwiz. You won't see region specific firmwares for Google Play Edition.

Indeed, seems the most obvious reason... I just wanted to be sure that besides the bloatware, the Android version underneath was the same.
Thanks for your intel!

Oh wow, Only Taiwan gets it. Hope it fixes the bugs. Specially battery draining issue.
If anyone wants a prerooted & dual recovery installed flashable zip.. https://mega.co.nz/#!hYQjEaQR!psUF9q4OBo1nqZfkgdwv0Sk-HrFaBxjq-4gsF4xrf5U
What are the changes?Where can we find the change log?
If I flash that on my Xperia Z2 D6543 brazilian model, I will brick my phone, or it will work? Thanks.
It's quite clear that's carrier fw.
Nothing new in it...maybe only gew apps that we don't need.
Carrier fw are specific in some areas.
For example, in some countries it's illegal to disable camera sounds or you have extra settings in sms app (special character warning)...
So...It's still same fw only with few minor changes that rest of work actually don't need.
It should be posted in Mega collection for users who need it.
Customized TW - it doesnt sounds like carrier branded fw
Because there is no carrier name in it... By build number it seems like branded but doesnt sound like branded according to name Customized TW
Just saying...

Has anyone got any idea when lollipop will be released in the UK for the Sony Z1 C6903 ??

open a new Thread for this?
I think they will certify a new firmware and fix the current issues and rool it out to every region, just be patient current realese is bad; no clear audio, charging issue, memory issue...
Still looking forward to it.
is past updates are anything to go by it'll be months before we get it
I thought of that too. I think that they will release another firmware with bugs fixed...
I tweeted Xperia UK and had no reply yet, also tweeted 3 UK as my phone was from them and they did come back but said they have no timescale yet
I don't understand the logic one of the largest and most lucrative markets has to wait the longest.
I just installed the HK prerooted firmware after doing a full backup its in English and i have everything working.

I'm new to the Z1 but I wouldn't recommend that ROM because the Hong Kong release is for the GLOBAL-LTE network. You want something like the generic France release which uses EURO-LTE.
Here's what I did.
1. Use XperiFirm and download 1276-5833 (Generic France that uses the same EURO-LTE network as the UK)
2. Use Flashtool to create an FTF from the download
3. Use PRFCreator to pre-root the ROM. Include SuperSU, XZDualRecovery (flashable) and select all of the checkboxes
4. Copy the flashable ZIP to your phone
5. Boot to TWRP and wipe cache, data, dalvik, system and then select to install the ZIP that you copied to the phone
You can debloat the ROM by using a file manager that supports root e.g. ES File Explorer.
Here's a question for everyone though. Is the option to use GSM (2G) only removed from Lollipop? I don't see the option anymore and I'm not sure if it's due to a region specific /vendor/overlay/ change.

Thanks.
So it's going to be a country specifc change in /vendor/overlay/ then. What people don't realise is that the ROM's they're installing for other countries are all slightly different. Some of them will display LTE instead of 4G, some will restrict options and some won't use things like fast dormancy. The included apps and basebands are also different.

yes.....I think the same me too.......is for that reason that I had and I will install always rom from my specific country, and it's for that reason that I make a post with pre-rooted lollipop generic IT for Italian people, where I came from :highfive:
Rumoured to be tomorrow morning for z1 O2 in the UK. Z1c gets it later on the same day. According to posts in O2 forums.
Looks like Vodafone version is released. Nothing on other carriers or generic
It's not on Vodafone as yet either via OTA or PC Companion, as I've just checked...]
It's available via PC Companion ...
Yup, Vodafone rolling out now on PC but no OTA!

Wow that was pretty accurate.
The generic, O2 and Vodafone versions have been released. Mines a Vodafone version and it offers me the update via the phone itself, but I'm going to flash the generic one since I don't actually use Vodafone and don't want any of their bundled apps.
Apart from an app called Discover and one called Updates; those are the only two "forced apps" on the Z1 via Vodafone. Which of course can be disabled...
Sky Sports Mobile TV no longer works, I've posted a comment on their forum to make them aware of this issue
Hello everyone.
I recently bought shiny new, black LG G6 H870. I'm totally new to LG company in terms of everything, including flashing software, development, mods etc. I've been loyal to Sony phones and forums since December 2010 but their time has finally came to an end. Gosh, I'm so happy with my choice...
I wanted to unbrand my G6 (it was branded with Polish carrier's crap - PLAY) with one of the KDZ's provided in this link:
https://lg-firmwares.com/lg-h870-firmwares/
And I did so - I have downloaded (then) newest, 10L firmware with the region abbreviated to "ITC".
But I have noticed that other region, "POC" has more download count. The KDZ file seems to have the same name but AFAIR there were sometimes differences for Sony phones when I flashed unbranded firmwares from different regions, even when they were 100% clean and stock.
So what are the meanings of all these region abbreviations? Is "POC" firmware some sort of better than "ITC"?
Edit: The only region I can't find the meaning of is that "POC" one, for any other I've found the correct meaning here.
Thanks in advance!
