Hello, my iris scanner totally doesn't detect me in the dark. I am always struggling to set it up and it takes several attempts to do it. Also it works not really fast. I thought this is how it should be but then I saw a video where guy unlocks his s8 in total darkness. I can't do that. Tried re registering iris at dark, but it doesn't detect my eyes at all. Stays at 0%. Ofc I cleaned the sensor. The image in the iris camera is still blurry I don't know if it's ok.
Anyways, anyone had such problem? Or it's a hardware issue? Thanks in advance.
UPDATE LOL just after making this thread I tried registering iris in the dark again and it worked. Xda helps

Yeah I already updated the post, suddenly it started working, thanks.
Still it takes around 5 seconds to unlock in low light condition and few attempts to unlock in the dark. On YouTube people unlock it instantly in low light condition. Cabln somebody recommend a fix? Maybe factory reset? I have a rooted phone and often flash custom Roms with full wipes but it doesn't seem to help.
IRIS Camera registration and usage
To register your irises:
Find somewhere with good light,
Look straight ahead,
Lift your phone so that you are looking at the top bar and your phone is perpendicular (flat) to your face,
Blink a few times,
Activate the registration procedure and blink just as it starts and before it succeeds - that might cause a retry.
Now your eyes are registered without dust, dirt or excess fluid on the surface. Try "face recognition" first, and a few times, to get the hang of holding your phone for a 'registration selfie' (not quite the same as your usual selfie).
Once you have registered in good lighting it should work in the dark. If the phone is giving you instructions (hold phone higher, closer, further away) be certain to follow those instructions. While it is detecting your irises be certain to blink once - with the Galaxy S9+ it should recognize you almost instantly (less than a 1/10 of a second).
Cleaning the lens is a good idea, so is holding the phone correctly during registration and detection - but don't forget to 'clean your irises' - remember to blink!

I've read a lot about the screen flickering issue, suggestions range from changing options in developer options, removing your SD, squeezing certain parts of the phone, slapping it, replacing the screen etc. I was rooted on lollipop using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/root-method-og5-ok3-t3290370 and after the root the screen returned to normal for about 20 minutes. Over about a month or so after this the problem got worse, I'd have to press the power button 20 or more times to get the screen to come one and as of 3 days ago I haven't been able to use the phone at all. Today I was messing with it and found that if I reboot the phone holding the power and volume down buttons, the screen flickers and I see the yellow triangle with an exclamation point briefly, and flickers out again until the samsung boot screen, every time I do this, the phone stays on. I have USB stayawake on and if plugged in the phone will stay awake for hours until I push the power button to turn off screen, and then repeat the reboot process. Just in case there was a software issue I upgraded to the latest update by using odin, I'm now on 6.0.1 and the phone was working perfectly for an hour before it returned again. If the issue is the flex/ribbon cable that connects the screen or other hardware issue, I don't see how rebooting would help, but if its a software issue, I don't understand why its only after I turn off the screen. Regardless, even when the phone was working it would still flicker on the lowest brightness, but at least the power button would work. Anyone have any ideas?
I've been in this type of your situation believe me all those solutions you mentioned above non of them really work, infact i nearly got my phone twisted because of one stupid yellow flickers. As of now the only perfectly working solution according to my extensive research is first of all never put it in auto brightness, you can reduce the brightness to a minimum, this happens on many samsung devices like s4,note 3 and even some s6 due to the amoled screens you'll notice when you reduce your brightness to the lowest it start immediately. I only got one report on this same issue damaging a s5 but it rear so dont be scared of loosing your phone. I'll upload a sreenshot of my minimum brightness to give an ldea.

The not using auto brightness does stop the screen from flickering so if I have to turn it down, I turn it down to just below where it starts happening but I still have the issue of the screen not coming on with the power button consistently, it flashes on for a second then back off, not nearly long enough for me to unlock the phone, except for when I restart it using power+vol down
EDIT: I see now this probably should've gone in the help and troubleshooting sub-forum, if any mod sees this, please move it for me.
It worked perfectly for me except your is getting worse by the week. Never mind i just got a new way may be it'll work on your phone, move your brightness tray to the highest or at the middle, keep using it as normal for every day use for at least a week. It worked for my indian friend as he told me. Keep in touch.

The first day it didn't seem to make a difference but I didn't check on it a lot, after that I've checked a few times and it does seem to make a difference it comes on much more frequently now, almost every time, but what could be the cause of the issue then? When I thought it was the ribbon cable connecting the screen I wasn't opposed to replacing it if I have to, but now I'm not sure how to go about fixing this or if I even can other than just leaving brightness up
Just to update, keeping it on max brightness did a lot to solve the issues, but it was still under warranty through Samsung so I sent it in, its on its way back, but according to the report they replaced the LCD
Post OxygenOS 4.7.6 update, when "face unlock assistive lighting" turned on, in complete dark, OnePlus 5T can be unlocked with both eyes totally closed. How I noticed this? even when both eyes are closed ?...... In complete dark the screen becomes very bright to scan the face(one can feel it with both eyes closed in complete dark as the screen becomes pale/unbright suddenly signalling the screen being unlocked). And then moved away the phone to a distance where the phone no way can see the face. Saw the phone already being unlocked. Did it many times to see, every-time it showed the same result. Then I asked my friend to hold the phone in front of my face(with my eyes closed, in total dark) to verify. He clarified it unlocked even when my eyes were fully closed. Did repetitively, same result. I did check this with another OnePlus 5T that I have in my house, got same result. Also, I factory reset the phone, re-registered the face data and checked it a few more times only to get the same result everytime. This is to be noted that in well-lit environment face unlock doesn't work if both eyes are closed with the same settings. Lastly, I experimented it with 2 different friends of mine ,face unlocked with both eyes closed with one, didn't work with the other one. I request OnePlus 5T owners to check this on their own..... What it proves is that, anyone can unlock the phone when the actual owner is sleeping by holding the phone in front the face in dark. This is unsafe. Now is this an issue? I leave it to the users.
I posted this experience in other forums as well, got mixed reactions from users as some said it unlocked with both eyes completely closed like mine and some said it did not. For me, it works every-time in dark ,both eyes closed
Conditions:
(a) The environment has to be very dark or completely dark.
(b)Face unlock, Auto unlock when the screen is on & Face unlock assistive lighting has to be on in Face unlock settings.
(c) Phone should be 10 inches or more away from the face.

Yeah, but does not unlock in well lit environment if both eyes are closed.
I don't see this as a security flaw, since it's already established that face unlock is not a fully secure method of unlocking and not used for mobile payments or banking. It's just a shortcut. Just like a fingerprint can be used from a sleeping or dead person. Not safe. Pin/password is still the safest method to unlock a phone.
It doesn't have a Samsung retina scanner...and it doesn't scan your eyeballs. Just the points of your face...
Now, if the fingerprint scanner works in the dark with my eyes closed, then I'll be worried
Seriously, I can't get face unlock to work with my eyes closed on Oreo Beta, but I'm not that worried about it. Like has been said above, face unlock isn't the way to go if you're worried about security.
I'm getting quite the opposite effect. I tried to do what the op is saying. So it's 2am, I'm in my bedroom pitch black. Try to unlock my phone with eyes closed but it doesn't work.
As soon as I open my eyes, it unlocks. Damn this face scanner is so fast and accurate!

One improvement I can say is that when assistive lighting is on, to still show notifications.
The notifications are white even with substratum themes so it shouldn't affect the assistive lighting much.
So in the night, when you wanna check your notifs but the phone puts the assistive light on instead and you have to press close.
Just skipping that close step really.
I think the OnePlus's implementation of face unlock is flawed to begin with, and the fact that you are able to unlock with your eyes closed in the dark is the least of your problems. I've been able to unlock the phone using a picture taken with a camera phone and displayed on that phone's screen. Heed OnePlus's warning that face unlock should be used as a convenience and not as a security measure.
So, my device had been acting funny for a while, automatically shutting down, stuck on boot loop, fingerprint not being recognised, battery draining really quick.
But since they had been a minor inconvenience, I didn't look in to the problem. But today morning, while I was watching a vid on the Youtube app, the brightness of the phone suddenly decreased, and using the brightness slider had no effect. And then, after a while, the screen went black, with only the finger print sensor vibrating, if touched. When i connect it to the charger, the LED light does not flash. It is not even getting detected when I connect it to the PC via USB.
Any help please ? I think the warranty has run out.
P.S. - All these errors seem to be taking place after the an update. Though I don't remember which one. Also, running stock ROM, didn't flash anything.

THE problem must be with your display as you mentioned first your brightness
decreased i highly suggest you try changing the display.

I did as you asked. The phone vibrates as if restarting. But there's no display or sound.
Also, I remember just before it went dark, it had just started raining, maybe one drop fell on the screen. Is any way that's the cause of my problem ?

Oh my word, okay, um. Do we need to visit a service centre for that, or can it be done in local mobile shops ? And how much does it cost ?

When I unlock my phone from the lock screen, sometimes there is a blinking light underneath the selfie camera behind the screen. It flashes constantly until I lock and unlock my screen again.
Is it a defective screen? The phone is brand new.
Same here and my phone is brand new. Any ideas?

I took my phone back to the Samsung store and they exchanged the phone. They said they have never seen it before. Luckily it was happening before I went into the store. So I managed to show them the fault.
It has not happened yet on my new phone. For me it was intermittent. It occurs when I unlock my phone in direct sunlight.
Maybe a faulty sensor. It is a purple flashing light about an inch below the selfie camera in the centre of the screen.
Same thing happens again on my new phone.
Same on my week old unit. I believe this is a software glitch that could be fixed in next update, if the developers catch it.
I suspect it might be some glitched animation, since One UI is full of them. I will try eliminating/disabling animations in the developer options and see if that helps.
same problem to me, did you find anything new?

Samsung have said it is a software issue and they are aware of it. They said they are working on a fix which should be released in the next few weeks.
I've never seen this behavior on my A40 but it sure sounds strange.

For me it occurs when I unlock my phone in direct sunlight. It doesn't occur in dark places. I don't think it happens with adaptive brightness turned on.
This is the 3rd phone I've got from 2 different stores. Same problem on latest firmware on SM-A405FN/DS.

For me it also happens in direct sunlight , but I think the problem is that phone overheats in pocket and after starts blinking, I have tried turning on and off in sunlight couple of times and it is not blinking unless I would have the phone in my pocket for a long time in high temperature
Hello, face recognition can be responsible here, go on and disable it
It's a small thing, but it bugs me in my daily use of my phone. I recently got my A40 and upgraded Android from 9 to 11, and now I can't lock the phone by touching the fingerprint sensor anymore . But unlocking works fine though. I have been googling around but noone seems to have this problem.
Do anyone in here have aclue to what might be the problem here ?
Since when could you even lock the phone using the fingerprint sensor?
Nonetheless, this is the XDA community of developers, and im sure a random person just needed this functionality on their phone, so they made and app for it..
Anyways, here's a link to a tutorial. It covers exactly what you want, and apparently the app is developed by a couple of XDA developers, so it should be safe too

From the get-go, when I bought my phone. Thought it was normal. My old Moto G5 did same thing. Really handy when you just need to view whatever is on the screen for a short moment.
Locking the screen means turning it off.. (and locking your device so that you have to scan your finger or use a pattern to unlock it again)

Otherwise yes, the phone's screen will turn on on the lock screen if you touch the sensor and the fingerprint isnt recognised. That's not the same as locking your phone. Locking your phone is the equivalent of pressing the power button once, which puts your phone into sleep and forces you to unlock it again (via fingerprint/pattern etc)
Can you clarify what you're asking for here?
Do you want the screen t oturn on when you tap the sensor or do you want the screen to turn off when you tap the sensor?
And do you want it to unlock when you tap the sensor, or do you want it to turn the screen on onto the lockscreen so that you can see the time/notifications etc?
(The links I posted are for LOCKING your phone using the sensor (turning the screen off and locking it, causing you to have to unlock it again when you turn it back on), because that's what you asked for..
