Hi all....
considering the OP5 has a lot of fast RAM (8gb in the 128 version), what would be the best way to make the most out of it? For example, do you think it would be possible that custom ROMs can cache in RAM the launcher and running widgets? or stuff like this that would speed up even more the user experience?
I would be very happy to concede 2 or 3GB of RAM to be allocated specially for stuff like this... what do you guys think?
Thanks,
Chale
I think OP is calling it App Priority?

guys my friend have s3 with the orginal sammy rom with latest update for our country and i used his phone played with it for like some hours but when opening any app launcher will closed wtf i feel its phone from like 2 or 3 yeras even my s1 never redraw launcher with opening many apps samsung what r u doing with ram management it sooooooooo ****y ram management now touch wiz become heavier than sense who said now touch wiz is so light on ram no its not the device have 780 ram as i know and wtf free ram only 190 or 200 my s1 with cm9 or aokp or sammy rom always have between 180 -150 with 5 apps on back ground
sorry guys but i'm really so sad for what sammy did on the software
sorry i thought its galaxy s3 international forum (its for us version ):silly:
please mod delete thread :cyclops:
780mb total ram? Looks like that's the international GS3 with the exynos quad + 1GB. While 1GB is more than enough for gingerbread it's not enough for ICS. Members with the US versions here have 2GB and do not have this problem. Please post in this forum instead: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1564
If you use Apex launcher there is an option in the advanced section where you can keep the launcher in memory to reduce redraws which might help

I disagree that 1GB is not enough for Android 4.0. It actually runs really well on my Vibrant with 380MB, but more RAM is appreciated when quickly switching between many applications (rare).
However, I have not run into problems with TouchWiz closing down on my U.S. variant. My first guess is that your friend installed some sort of app manager that kills background processes. This kind of program was absolutely necessary in Android 2.0, but the problem was mostly fixed in 2.1 and completely gone in 2.2. These days, it primarily results in poor user experience and, sometimes, noticeably lower battery life. I don't have proof that your friend did this, but the odds are very good.
I've seen this on both us and international versions both with ram to spare some devs in the i9300 section seemed to get it smooth no issues at all

Just curious, but is anyone else experiencing 1gig+ worth of ram usage with no apps running? Just seemed a bit excessive to me for the system to take up over half the total ram in the device.. thanks in advance.

What is your concern here? Do you run out of RAM when you start up all your favorite apps?
No, it's not an issue for it to use half the RAM for the system. Keep yourself from looking at it. It's fine.
People need to learn how android manages RAM, it uses parts for system and the rest is only freed from older running apps when needed, high ram usage is not a ISSUE! as a great dev on the xperia play section stated @CosmicDan "Free ram is wasted Ram"

I would think that if it works anything like a PC, then the more code you can get into RAM the faster it will execute as compared to having it pull/swap it from disk, or chip sets.

True, but if you're using a custom ROM it could be a memory leak. I recently learned that *many* builds of CM10 for many devices (mostly Mali GPU ones) have serious memory leaks with hardware acceleration.
You can free 120-200 MB by disabling LG MIT
Type 3845#*802# (if you have the international version) in order to access the hidden menu. Scroll down to LG MIT and disable it
search how android uses ram, and you notice, theoretically (pun intended), why low free ram is not an issue(supposedly)

Yeah well this is obvious, But usually this is not the case, And Hello CosmicDan!
it's always around 850 - 950 when nothing is open on rayglobe 3.2
just wanna say something to reach 10 post for development access !
Instead of checking for low RAM, check the Running Apps list and find the offending app/service that is eating RAM. Then see if you can disable or remove it. It could be a memory leak from a bloat ROM app or one you installed. Right now I have 100MB free on my 1GB phone but its perfectly normal, because there are so many apps in background that I use. In fresh boot its about 300MB free, because apps like Facebook and Tapatalk run a service all the time.

What's the point of having 4GB of ram if the whole damn system takes about 3.5 gb living me with only 1.5gb useful. This is absurd! I will root and flash a custom rom just because of this. You know how SLOW our phones are running consuming more than half of ram??? Any way to fix this without root?

It's 3.5GB because the GPU needs 500MB allotted for itself.
What's the use of 4GBs of RAM if 1.5GB is not being used?
Android uses the RAM and kills things when it needs more. Idle RAM is useless RAM.
Plus 3.5 + 1.5 = 5.

While this phone has a lot of ram and the management is much better compared to the s6 it's still not that great. The whole system does lag and feel bogged down. After clearing all the tasks it's smoother but apps will still close in memory and have to relaunch upon opening. I too am looking forward to rooting and custom Roms

What he^ said.
There could be 6GB of RAM and the system is going to use it. That's what it's there for. Android is built to effectively manage what is using RAM to keep everything running smoothly.

While I agree the RAM usage seems a bit high I haven't really seen any system slowdowns. I only clear out RAM these days out of habit rather than necessity and honestly I can't tell much of a difference in performance before and after cos it is a very fast phone.

For everyone arguing with OP; The problem seems to be that there isn't enough ram, and the system keeps shutting things down instead of letting them run in the background. Either that, or the ram is being managed poorly, and apps are being closed instead of running in the background.

Phone don't slow down. I wish there was more ram but I would of liked if Samsung copied apple in which you can go back to the previous app 10+ apps ago and it's still exactly were you where, with less than 1gb of ram? I don't see why Samsung can't do this apple gots a slight edge in multi tasking. But we have multi window. There "multi window" sucks soooooo bad. Only like 5 apps support that feature lol

Currently i am using ressurection remix which is pretty good but after closing a app the ram remain still occupied and doesn't become like it was before opening that app. please tell me which rom has best ram optimisaton
and for what you need free ram? If system or app needs more ram it will free it by himself, if you want install greenify and greenify apps, but for sure you don't need a lot of free ram.

Suppose I restarted the phone my ram consumption is 1gb then I opened 10 apps now my ram consumption is 2gb then I closed all the 10 app but still my ram usage show 1.5gb or more than that..I want to know why

sometimes, even you close an app, part of it stay in memory for future use of this app, sometimes *system* ram usage increases throught your using of phone, sometimes other apps increease usage too
Thanks. And please tell me how to judge a ROM weather it has a good ram management or not

I havent seen a rom with a really bad ram management here for our Bacon all the ROMs are based on one of the 2 'sources' we have. I wouldn't worry too much about it just enjoy the great roms
Verstuurd vanaf mijn A0001 met Tapatalk
If there's memory leak in the source, it will be there in all the derived ROMs. But you need not worry about it. Sources are quite stable and memory management must be equally good.
However, it can be a bit different on suppose an AOSP based ROM vs a LineageOS based ROM. This is also very kernel dependent. You should try them out yourself and see! Good luck.
Hello guys,am planning to buy the Asus zenfone max pro m2(4/64 variant).
Should I go for it?I have read various comments on YouTube saying that the mobile consumes a lot of ram and also battery drains too fast etc.
So,I want suggestions from you people.. Also can anyone please tell me how much ram is free in 4gb Variant.?
Thanks
I don't understand all free RAM obsession, RAM is meant to be used and to my knowledge, 80% of available RAM will be occupied. That unless you restrict background running for most apps. Alternatively, you can easily clear recent apps on regular basis. Or better yet, use Naptime or similar apps to apply Doze more aggresively. I use realme 2 pro which natively applying aggresive RAM cleanups and I'm not happy with that. I don't have any issues with Max Pro 2 battery. When it comes to android, you have more control of it. It isn't perfect in any sense but that's what makes it challenging and interesting.
There is no issues like that. They must be comparing it to redmi or realme phones which use aggressive ram management. They even provide tools to clear and kill recent apps in the skin itself. In my opinion this affects the seamless multi-tasking capability of the phone. Why buy a phone with 4gb of ram if you can't use it?!!

More the RAM is being used more seamless experience you gonna get, Free RAM does nothing in phone but occupied RAM does help out with quick and snappier feel of the phone. You can free the RAM but that won't help you anyway, when android wanna load something in the RAM which is filled it removes allocation of memory to less prioritised stuffs and this process repeats all over when you open different Apps. When an app is already there in RAM it's faster to switch/open that app !

Yes exactly, redmi and realme phones comes with custom ui which causes the unnecessary ram usage.
