Battery analysis help needed - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Ok, this might seem basic, but I haven't had a Samsung in a long time. On all other phones I had, I had a battery graph that showed additional information underneath. I'm mainly interested in awake.
BBS randomly stopped working. It only says no statistics gathered yet. I need to figure that out too.
Mainly I feel my phone is not sleeping properly. Any Tipps on how to analyze this?

The battery graph can be seen if you go in to settings and then "Device Optimization". Click on the battery option. As for BBS, you need to provide adb permissions to access battery stats. Just seach XDA or Google it out on how to do it on a non-rooted device

I know that graph. It just missing the additional information below that stock Android has.
I am rooted and know that BBS needs permissions. It worked fine until 4 hours or so ago. Might be because i was topping if the battery. I just charged to full and will see if it works.

Ok, after full charge BBS is back to normal. Seems no drain is happening and phone is sleeping fine...

Screen Battery Usage When Off?

I am trying my best to figure out how I can squeeze extra battery out of the phone. I used to get 3-4 hours of 'screen on' time out of my Galaxy Nexus and now I usually less than 2h with best battery still being less than 3h and that's only when I am around wifi almost all day.
Anyway, in my attempts to identify the drain I obviously saw a lot of the same things other people did: constant wake locks and I know there are threads for that.
However, I have noticed something I do not know the answer to: GSAM reports that my battery uses roughly the same % of battery when the screen is off as when it is on. What the heck? I don't get how my screen uses ANY battery when it is off. Does anyone know why this is reported like this?

I've tried using it but it does not seem to work well for me. I set a custom ref. when I woke up and the battery was at 100% and it seemed to work for a bit but when I checked it 3 hours later after travelling to campus and attending class and it showed no data at all regardless of when I selected it to show me data from (since unplugged, since charged, since custom ref.) Does it not work with stock kernel?
In the mean time, GSAM is providing some good information at least for an initial diagnosis.
Are you implying that it is not correct in telling me that of the 31% of battery used by the screen 17% is discharged while off and 14% while on? It says: Discharge while on/off: 14% / 17%

Device must be rooted so BBS can work. Try going in advance and check alarms (root needed) SUPERSU will popup and ask for permission. Don't forget to refresh time to time whenever you open it to get latest numbers.
I am rooted

Battery Performance on Huawei Ascend XT

Let's discuss battery performance, issues, battery monitoring apps, etc in this thread for the Huawei Ascend XT.
The non-user replaceable XT battery is rated at 3000 mAh.
I like to use Gsam Battery Monitor app.

My battery usage is around 9.6% an hour. Built in battery monitor must have been altered by my deleting spree. I also got rid of the phone manager too. I've been on battery for 35 minutes and have lost 6% battery. Thinking about going back to stock and taking a different approach as somewhere along the lines I mutated the Android system (using most of the battery).
Please specify what radios you have on during usage and screen brightness and screen on time is a big factor. I didn't go crazy and delete stuff other than AT&T bloatware and apps I don't use, and I'm quite happy. Maybe good idea to go back to stock after making a TWRP backup and do debloat in phases with days in between .
Did you try suggested battery app?
Yes I'm using gsam and now I'm up to ~13% usage an hour. BT is always off. Wi-Fi is always connected. Screen is always at auto so it's pretty dark. I'm going to go back to stock so I can figure out what exactly is draining battery.
Gsam should tell you in apps list. Did it prompt you for permissions to grant via adb pm grant?

It didn't, it asked for root at one point. Android system was chugging it all down. So it must have been a system app or service I either deleted or disabled. I'm back on stock now and we shall see.
I always notice phone lost more battery after rooted. Also removing wrong app can caused it too. When the system look for that app and it's not there. It keeps looking and cause the phone always ON (even screen off).
Going back to stock is one way to fix because you are not sure which app you removed wrong after rooted
That gives me an idea. I would do an "adb shell logcat" and see if it's spewing errors/FATALS if you suspect battery issues. I've seen this when something can't be found by system at startup.
How can I get back to stock?
Flash your TWRP back you made following the root/TWRP instructions . Should work, but don't restore the stock recovery unless you want that. Restore boot, system, and maybe data. Wipe cache and dalvik from TWRP before rebooting. Good luck .

Has anyone used better battery stats? There is a free version on XDA that will point out partial and full wakelocks that would affect battery life. I have not done this yet, if anyone has please report back.

I deleted that. I thought i don't need that after rooted. I got fast battery drain due to accidentally remove apps that needed in the systems. Oh well
Go back to the main thread and find who shared their stock TWRP. That should fix you up.

While you are looking for a stock TWRP back, go into TWRP and wipe cache and dalvik, then reboot. Phone will sit on AT&T logo for about 30 minutes. Maybe it will fix the battery drain problem. Before you do that, do a logcat and see if it's spewing fatals or if you see any hints.

I wipe 2 cached and david, phone have normal reboot, less than 1 minute. Nothing changes. The "awake" time in battery management show 1hours screen on and 55% left (from 100%). I don't have this before rooting, AWAKE and SCREEN ON always sync. NOw AWAKE even SCREEN OFF

Use better battery stats app to see what your wakelock is.
GSam Battery Monitor can also tell you about wakelocks. I'm not sure if it breaks it out by app or not. Are you using free or pay BBS?

Remove PowerGenie app Huawei uses. These are the custom profiles they designed and they are crap. I go to bed at 6 am and wakeup at 3 and lose about 3℅. No lie. Ive always found the the OEMs on die power management better than placebo apps. Hardware based will out do software anyday of the week. My own opinion only.
What radios (WiFi, cell, GPS, etc) do you have on during 6am-3pm? I put mine in airplane mode during sleep hours.

Idle Battery Drain

I've been getting a lot of idle battery drain after only a couple of weeks and it's very disappointing to see. I used GSAM Battery Monitor (after granting the additional permissions via adb) and it looks like my three biggest issues are Phone Services, the OS itself, and Google Play Services. I have attached screenshots below of the information from GSAM.
Anyone experiencing something similar or know of any way to fix this?

looks like it is your app usage not your screen that is using most of your battery. Try closing/uninstalling some apps.

If you look at the first post, the "apps" causing the majority of battery drain is the Kernel and Call Services. That's my problem, but I don't know how to fix this.

My battery is good. Can you go to settings, battery & power saving and take a screenshot of the bottom of the Battery usage screen. It shows what apps are using what, just like the app that you are using but stock android for statistics. Phone idle is using the most for me with 4% followed by Screen with 2%. I have had the phone on battery for 5 hours and 15 minutes from a full charge and still have 90% battery left. I usually end the day with about 60% or 70% battery life remaining.
Also are you using wifi calling? Do you need it? Turning it off might help your battery.
EDIT: also even if call services takes up 16% and you don't have any apps running then you are only using 16% of your battery. I you have 32 apps open using 1% each you are using 32%. From the screenshots it looks like you are using a lot of apps which means a lot of battery drain.

"My battery is good." Doesn't really help me man, mine was good for the first couple weeks I had the phone, but my usage habits haven't changed.
Phone Idle is at 32%, Call Services is at 12%, Screen at 10%, Snapchat at 8%. I use WiFi calling as there is almost no signal at my apartment. When I leave however I turn it off.

Ok, Yeah I was just using my battery as a comparison. Looks like phone idle is eating up a lot of battery and It is probably because you have low signal or because of the wifi calling. Not sure which as I don't use wifi calling. You might want to look at getting a Sprint Magic Box. https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/serv...16=magic box |All&question_box=magic box |All
Only problem is that it isn't out yet so you would have to preorder it. The good news is that it looks like it is going to be free.
Did you figure out any solution to this? I'm having similar performance on my Sprint G6 and not sure how to fix it... All these people reporting 5-6 hours of SOT have me really jealous.

What do you mean, "it helps with the idle battery?" What exactly are you referring to that helps?
I'm having the exact same issue with my sprint g6. Battery was fine until recently. Nothing has changed, no new apps or anything. Adb reports call services draining the most, just like your screenshots. Anyone ever figure out the culprit for this issue?
I haven't figured it out yet, but I really hope someone does. I read somewhere that resetting the phone fixes the issue even in the long term but I don't really want to back up all my data and apps and everything to try it.

Try using iRoot, maybe it can rewrite how your phone uses different apps to save battery.
Anyone have any luck solving this? I'm having the exact same problem with the same phone - Sprint LG G6 and "Call Services" is my primary battery drain.
I don't have particularly low signal - med/high for most of the day and I have wifi calling turned off. I've had this same problem across multiple phones (G5 and G6) as well as across factory resets on both phones. I used to get great battery life with my G5(~85% at the end of the day if I didn't use it much) and then this started happening about a year ago.
Wakelock detector is showing >1000 wakeup triggers from call services - the most by tenfold above everything else.
Seems like it might be related to Sprint/LG since Call Services has mostly LG related processes running on it, but unfortunately that doesn't help me get rid of the battery drain. Any ideas?

How do you guys monitor battery?

Hey,
I want to get more stats about what consumes my battery, wake lock detector doesn't work, I'm rooted but I get something along the lines of "failed to perform task" better battery stats won't show me any processes?
There is also the tool called "Better Battery Stats" https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.asksven.betterbatterystats Works on my OP5.
I used to use Gsam Battery Monitor. But since Nougat, I don't think it's very accurate. The screen % of battery used never went above 30% and in the apps list Kernel was always 20% to 35% even when using the phone a lot. So I went to using Accubattery and Better Battery Stats

LOL, I knew I was missing something, I used to use this on my Samsung s3 way back never used it since. How would you go about stopping those system services wakelocks?
I use Accubattery personally, but only for the first few cycles after getting a phone. Once everything is worked in and running smoothly battery life never really changes for my use again. Though I would reinstall if an update noticeably changed battery life.

Try disable service from the app store (blue Droid icon). I used it frequently on my S7. Or you can use amplify, if amplify can run without Xposed at least. Never looked into that.

Battery Drain Help

Hey Folks loving my LG V20 so far. But recently, I have seen Android OS, Phone Idle, and Android System draining half the battery life.
I am un rooted, and do not wish to root it as all features I have are there.
Any tips you can provide me? Thanks.
Have you rebooted it firstly?

Sorry for late reply, I checked my battery health estimate with Accubattery, it shows 94%.
Also, Phone Idle drain is higher then Screen? Anyone else get that?
I have phone idle using as much power as screen use. Sometimes even more.
Not sure what phome idle means. Wifi, 4g idle are included in this?
