Changing the font on stock A2017U - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

Does anyone know of a method to change the font on stock B19? I realize this can be done if rooted but with all the customizations baked into the stock system, seems odd ZTE did not offer a few font choices.

[Q] Change font without root?

Is there a way to change font without rooting? I was able to do this easily on my previous Galaxy device, no root required...
any one? no idea or impossible?
I'm guessing your previous Galaxy device ran touchwiz? I'm pretty sure they have a font changer built in, though you can only change to a few pre selected fonts.
The short answer is no. But, this beinfbq Nexus, it is rooted super easily, so you can just root and change the font with a root app on the Play Store!

An appeal to devs

I love my device (802) but one thing is really bugging me about it in it's present state.......I hate the fact that the navigation buttons take up a large portion of my beautiful screen in most applications
Firstly, I like to keep my phone unrooted so that I can enjoy skygo, meaning custom roms and mods which require root are out of the question for me and, secondly, I have tried the hide navbar mod which is included in the stock Korean rom and I think it is an excellent solution and one which LG has successfully developed and implemented for those lucky few.
There is an app in the playstore https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=be.ppareit.immersivemode which attempts to achieve immersive mode across many kitkat devices enabling the user to enable immersive mode for any selected app just like the implementation on the Korean rom without the necessity for root. This app achieves what I require but, unfortunately, is very buggy.
I would like to appeal to the devs and those many others here with more nouse than me to look at the above playstore apk and also the official LG implementation and see if it may be possible to implement this efficiently on a non-rooted device.
Whilst I am rambling on, could somebody tell me what would happen if I rooted my stock rom, made a small system adjustment then unrooted my device again? Would my system mod still work and would skygo detect my device as not rooted? The reason that I ask this is I wondered if it was impossible to somehow implement the Korean 'hide nav bars' mod on a rooted stock rom, unroot the device and still have this modification working?
Any thoughts on this (and investigation perhaps ) would be very much appreciated.

Why don't you try something like this ??
http://repo.xposed.info/module/com.devadvance.rootcloak
I use it on some other apps and it works for me, and it looks like your app might be also supported. Check in the XDA thread if it is.
If it works for you, use then G2 Tweaksbox for the NavBar customization.

Thanks but skygo doesn't work with this . The checking procedure that it employs seems to be very thorough and, to my knowledge, nobody has ever cracked this properly to work on a rooted or un-supported device. The same being the case when trying to enable hdmi out with it.
I was hoping that there would be some way of implementing hiding of nav bars on a non-rooted device as the play store app that I mentioned in my previous post proves that this can be implemented to quite a large degree, so I thought, if somebody was to work on this device specifically, they may be able to make it bug free.
You could remove the navbar altogether but then you would have to rely 100% on things such as LMT.
For info, I am now very happy. I have installed Cloudystock Rom then unrooted it with superSU pro. To my great surprise, the Rom still works flawlessly and my sky apps do too.
I wasn't aware this was possible. I am now going to work on stock Rom zip with the hide navigation button feature added.

Wait wait wait...Sky Go works when you just unroot... Even on a custom ROM? I'm on cloudyflex I need to try this. ROM has a hide keys option per app anyway
Do you still have custom recovery??
OK unrooted play store says SkyGo is not compatible with my device. Got a feeling that's related to something in my build.prop can you upload yours please mate from your ROM so I can make some changes to mine to get it working? Thanks.

I've just un-rooted cloudystock with supersSU pro and kept custom recovery and everything else the same and, yes, the sky apps worked fine as did the rom . For me, this is just what I wanted and I was very surprised that it works, including hide nav keys.
Now I want to try to create a completely stock 80220d but with the navbar mod included then unroot it. I have pm'd cloudya about which files from the cloudy stock rom that I require but haven't had a reply yet.
....didn't you create a flashable 80220d zip somewhere? I can't seem to find it. I am not very experienced at this and I guess by your response that you are interested in the same thing and perhaps you will be better at this than me?
EDIT I changed ro.build.target_country from COM to EU for another reason. Perhaps this might help?
I changed fingerprint and a few other bits back to d802 in build.prop, removed root. Now running cloudyflex. Can hide keys per app in options. And can watch sky go. Perfect.

How do I apply an icon pack system wide?

As the title says, not just the launcher but the whole system.
I think you'd have to flash the xposed framework and use unicon to theme it, or you can apply the themes from the galaxy themes store, which also change the icons system wide.
Hope I helped!
I am interested in this too. Samsung has the worst icons and kid-like colors. Coming from HTC, I can't stand the TouchWiz theme. I was forced to install Nova launcher, but I would like settings to be themed aswell. I saw a screenshot of someone's modified settings theme and I think he, too, claimed he used Xposed. I have Xposed installed, but I don't know what to search for in Xposed to have my settings change color. He had a 'double row' mod that also changed the skin. Anyone know how?
Ugh. I don't wanna root my phone.

There is no way I would ever use a phone with no root. AdAway is something I cannot live without. Why don't you like root?

Cause of Knox and I used to go crazy with rooting and custom ROMs and kernels on my nexus 4 but all it did for me was introduce bugs and reduce performance. Besides, how would I even root without losingh everything I have atm? It'd be such a huge pain.
Yeah I wouldn't mess with kernel modifications. I just root stock for AdAway or use the most stable ROM nothing too crazy.

What do you mean by "losing everything you have atm"? CF-Autoroot doesn't require wiping anything, only flash custom ROMs do.

navbar glitch when changing launcher

hi, whenever i change huawei home with any different launcher ( i tried many) my navbar keeps turning black then it return transparent every i time i unlock my phone, is that normal? is there any workaround?
I have same glitch so probably its common.Soetimes even on stock launcher (1 of 10) i have same glitch especially with bright wallpaper.
Im using Nova Launcher Prime and I don't experience this problem. Maybe its a bug. You could try flashing the standard firmware, maybe an updated one if possible. Im not an expert about this kind of stuff but flashing stock firmware shouldn't harm your device.

Update questions (H918 T-Mobile)

Hello, I've searched a bit on this, and haven't really found the answer to my question.
I've had my V20 for a few months now. I'm currently on the deodexed (LG-H918 Deodex NRD90M) rom. Android Security Patch Level: Sep. 1, 2016. Software version H91810d.
I've seen that updates are available from LG, but I know better than to take the OTA update.. Are the newer updates just security patches? Or are there baseband/firmware updates too?
And what is the best method to get up to date? I wish I could just apply a patch update like you can on a PC instead of having a new ROM install everytime an update happens.
Also, what would you all say is the best custom rom right now? Overdrive? NotSoStock? I could use a bit of advice if I'm going to install a new rom.
Thank you in advance!

Up until know, i have found Overdrive to be the one with the most customization capabilities among all the stock ones. (although im currently testing WETA right now). But i see that the battery is fairly decent on Overdrive. In fact, i think i will be jumping back to Onedrive tomorrow and use dualboot to add WETA as a second rom on my phone. Now despite the customizations possible in overdrive, i wish the color control worked again on that rom. Let us see what the future holds :good:

Thanks for the quick reply. What did you mean by color control? Are the colors on the screen off or something?

the color control app that allows you to calibrate the color , contrast and saturation to your liking. It stopped working after several updates, so Ovrdrive removed it (maybe for the time being only).

Ah, well, I guess I'll stay on the stock deodex rom for the moment. But what of the updates? Are any that critical? And what would be the best method for applying them without having deal with debloating and such again?
Thanks.

as far as the updates goes... There are no big improvements whatsoever. It has been only security patch and such. and maybe a couple of bugs fixed. But some people have been complaining about the loudness of the sound has been decreased on the last update (not good) . That's why most of us use a stock rom with viper or dolby atmos mod . also i believe that on the last update, they made DAC more compatible with other music apps. Other than that... as i previously said... there are no other big improvements.
For this reason i only update by flashing the latest overdrive or weta rom and not by using lgup or the OTA itself (although the last few updates have been proven to be rootable with the dirtycow method). But i wouldnt know how to only apply the patches to stay up to date if not by flashing the complete rom. I do know you can flash the modem, but the baseband... i couldnt tell. sorry
