Ghost touches and typing problems - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

When I have my S8 plugged into the charger and the phone gets quite warm, I have some touch screen issues.
Typing gets really frustrating as the keyboard misses out a few taps and then autocorrect changes it to something totally different. Also, sometimes it swipes which gives the feeling of ghost touches.
I had a case and a few screen protectors and this issue persists with all combinations and when the device has no case or protector on it.
Tried multiple keyboards too and issue persists.
Luckily, I haven't rooted yet so I still have my warranty. Is this a faulty device or do other people also have this issue?

this was one reason to recall note 7 before

"Ghost Touches"

Hey All-
I searched for this with the assumption that with all the N7 screen issues there would be others experiencing this but I was not able to find much of any help.
----
My N7 is registering touches without me making contact with the screen. It is always in the same location. When the keyboard is up, it is where the letter 'D' is located. If I pass my finger directly overhead, or often times, even near to, the 'D' button, the tablet registers it as a touch. I can make the tablet register a touch with my finger as far as 1/4'' away from the screen surface. As you may imagine, this makes typing near impossible. As I pass over the letter 'D' to access other letters, it registers 'D' everytime.
I have tried other keyboards and the problem persists. It isn't necessarily over the same letter (due to differing keyboard layouts) but it is always in the same location on the screen.
I popped the back cover off and tightened/loosened screws to no avail. Turning the screen off and then back on does not help as it seems to do with some of the other screen issues that others are experiencing. The one thing I have found to strangely help is pushing on the screen in the affected location with extremely firm pressure; in essence squishing the s*** out of it. When I do this, the screen will behave better (it will still ghost touch in the area but my finger must be very close to the screen) for a period of time before reverting to misbehavior.
--
Has anyone else experienced something of this sort? I am currently running stock/rooted/unlocked; It seems to be a hardware issue so I don't think another ROM will help though I will try the CM10 nightlies when they boot properly. I'm ready to just bring it back for a new one but I know the Wal-Mart I bought it at is out of stock.
Any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.
Im having the same issue mine is in random places, usually top left corner but when im texting it starts typing random letters, I've been looking
for a solution or someone with the same issue you are the first and only that i have found. I am also having the dead spot issues, they tend to alternate.

Nexus 7 phantom taps
I'm having similar problems with my Nexus 7 bought in November. Worked fine for a while, now I'm getting phantom taps making typing a real pain and page scrolling can be frustrating when it suddenly scrolls to the top of the page! Anyone know if this is a warranty fix?
I had this happen one time. It freaked me out.

OP and others - have you look at the video here - post #1254 - look familiar to you at all - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770919&page=126
A # of us had been freaked out, wondering if our secured WPA2 network has been breached and remotely controlled ...
If your device is brand new, return it & get it exchanged, or get it fixed under warranty - it's hardware related. The 16GB WiFi only model that I got from local Staples store had that problem that got worst - the replacement & upgraded 32GB unit has been flawless thus far - running stock but rooted 4.1.2 rom. I was within the 14 days/holiday time frame for exchange/return w/o stocking fees, luckily & did not have to wait for it to be repaired under warranty.
Upgrading to 4.2 firmware and/or custom Rom & kernel do not help, YMMV - of course ...
BTW, local Staples tech support counter manager said up to 20% of the N7 are getting returned/exchanged for various issues. Wow !!
After 4.2.2 my nexus7 makes phanton clicks too
Similar with this video www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tkh3W_ITwEw
I turn off screen and turn on and stop... The times in times i get it
Have solution?
I had to take my screen protector off after the update it was pressing places on the screen didn't happen until 4.2.2 update

[Q] HD2 Phantom touches crisis

Hi, I've been suffering from randomly occurring phantom touches, seemingly without a trigger. Sometimes, immediately after I turn my screen on, digitizer starts going nuts and registers hundreds of touches everywhere, often to the point of crashing the system. I have tried to ensure better grounding by applying graphite to the battery cover contacts, but the issue got fixed only temporarily. Wiping the whole screen, bottom to top, with my skin stops the issue. I'm currently running a 4.1.2 Pacman 1.2a Android on an European HD2. Thanks for any kind of help or advice.

I have seen this issue on a phone with a very dirty screen but I think this is not your problem. Did you ever try another ROM/OS? Maybe it's a driver problem.
If you have some sort of protective case, try to remove it and see what happens.
Otherwise, i suspect a defective touchscreen/digitizer.

I had the same problem in may Galaxy S i9000. I went back to stock rom and that fixed the problem. Most likely it is due to a problem in the driver.
I have read that the power button can possibly cause such issues. The digitizer cable runs very close to it and can get damaged after prolonged use.
Try quickly flicking the power button the next time it happens!

Well, I've installed several systems and it still persists. At least now I know it's hardware related.

Is your screen or finger wet? Try cleaning your screen by rubbing it dry on your clothes and rub you fingers dry on your clothes too (the friction will make your fingers dry).
My HD2 freaks out and registers touches everywhere even if there is a little drip of sweat on it. ;p
About a week ago I've found out that the issue completely disappears after I remove the battery cover. I've tried replicating the results in long-term scale with 100% success! It's definitely a touchscreen grounding issue.
I have completely (so far at least..) fixed the issue by putting a square piece of duct-tape over the right (with the phone flipped over) grounding pin next to the battery. :victory:

Ghost Touch issue

My bro's Yureka is going crazy. performs functions on itself. also right end of the screen is not recognising touch. is this hardware issue? should i request for a replacement? Should i hard reset and see?
It could be hardware issue or issue due to the device getting over heated.
Even I have ghost touches on my Yureka when i use it for prolonged period of time while on charging.
Little more detail like when exactly the Ghost touches occur, I mean what is your brother doing with the device when ghost touches start to happen will help in pinpointing the exact trouble.

Touchscreen erratic behavior makes phone unusable

Ok, so I have a brand new Moto X Style (XT1572) bought in the UK.
After the initial 10 days when everything was working fine, the touchscreen has began showing some really irritating erratic behavior:
When I swipe, the screen interprets it as a touch
Single touch is sometimes doubled (for example, with the back navigation button)
Pulling down the notification bar gets it half way, then the phone thinks I have removed my finger so pulls it back up, even though my finger is still on the screen
The phone has never been dropped, no water splashed on it, no nasty handling, I am always extremely careful with all my devices. And the phone is not rooted or altered in any way.
So far I have tried the following, but none solved the issue:
Forced rebooted the device.
Reset to factory settings.
Re-reset factory settings and not install anything for 2 days except Twitter and Chrome.
Changed 3 different launchers besides stock.
Changed apps with alternatives.
Reset apps, reinstalled apps.
Removed screen protector and repeat previous steps.
Tried both with the fast charger connected and not connected. With factory provided cable.
Tried both with a normal charger connected and not connected. With factory provided cable.
The problem appears at random times/apps, anywhere there's scrolling involved: Chrome and Twitter are the most obvious. I have never unwillingly clicked on so many ads in the past as I have since this problem started. Worst part is that the phone decides for me if I want to touch or long touch or scroll, so it opens pages/tweets/apps I don't want to open. All at random. And then, after a while, it's fine. And then it starts again.
As you understand, the phone is unusable during the times it behaves erratically.
Not a happy first-time-Motorola customer here. Any ideas anyone?
I've made a post about weird screen issues where randomly it registers a swipe as a touch, and if you hold down on that touch, the screen goes insane and freaks out.. but the second I lift my finger up and put it down again it's fine... therefore it wsnt much of an issue for me.

I've been seeing weird stuff too. Force closing of games that play perfect on my original Moto X too...?
I think this is a result of the slim bezels. I noticed that most of the problems I have is when the skin from a finger holding the phone seems to be too close to the screen and it's registering it as a contact. Of course, this causes it not to interpret the contact you're intentionally making correctly.
My solution theory: use the included bumper or a case and see if you still have the problem. The case/bumper should help prevent unintended contact.
still have the problem with the case. it's weird Phantom touches that happen. I feel like it might be software, but idk.

Just coming back to say that the problem was not software related.
It was THE BLOODY CASE!!!
Can't believe it, can you?
It was an i-Blason Halo Series Hybrid Clear Case / Cover with TPU Bumper.
The edge of the case was registering touches on the screen!!!
Now in search of a new case.
BTW, I'd like to thank @jayochs and @AtLemacks for the great hint.
Still can't believe it...
weird. I have a regular TPU and it still does it. does it even without a case at all.

I have the same issue and a TPU case as well. I've found that locking and unlocking the device helps temporarily, but the issue soon returns. Obviously, this is not ideal... It's driving me insane.
Same issue here. Tried downgrading to 5.1.1 but the issue persists. Now I am going to try custom firmware. I Live abroad so I can not receive replacement
For all with the same issue, try operating your phone without a protection case for a few days. I found out this was the reason for the erratic behaviour.
I have been having this issue as well. It happens a lot when I am swiping text, or scrolling. When scrolling, my touch is sometimes registered as a 'click.' While swipe typing, it is as though my finger is removed then replaced, like the touchscreen input is skipping.
I will try removing the case, although this happens also when I am not holding it (phone on table). I think it might be possible that I need to push harder on the glass protector, except that the OP tried not using it altogether.
I found this thread which mentions adding some tape to the touch screen connectors.
Several people claim it solved their problem. I tried it without any success, but maybe it will help someone else.

Galaxy S7 Edge strange behavior, Random touch input

Hello folks,
I've googled a lot but maybe I used the wrong terms or it's a rare problem. But my phone has a small annoying bug. The bug I'm facing was always there but after the latest update it occurs much more.
Most of the time it happens when you unlock the phone and start typing. In the video below you can see the problem.
Sometimes the recent apps and back button refuse to work while this happens. Not always.
Is there anyone else that suffers from this strange behabior?
I allready tried to remove the TPU case but that didn't solved the problem.

the solution is simple, just make sure ur fingers aren't wet!
Over a period of time (if you looked at your phone at an angle with the light reflecting off) the Gorilla Glass the phone needs to be wiped down, preferably with a micro-cloth (the same type you use on glasses). The oils on your hand, combined with sweat/water, can do freaky things with the touchscreen.
I have been using a stylus most of the time to type and interact with my S7E phone. Not only that I like it better I find it with my big fingers I am more accurate when I am typing and interacting with the phone.
But do not forget this S7E is completely covered with Gorilla Glass and needs to be cleaned like all other types of glass does...good luck.
Cheers!

The exact same thing is happening in my case (atleast has become more pronounced since the latest update), the recent apps & back button become unresponsive after you unlock the phone and there are random ghost touches. The problem seems to normalise after you lock & unlock the phone using the power button. Any insight on the same would be helpful.
I cleaned the phone multiple times. Actually I clean it every day.
As arun.subrm says. It goes away when you lock and unlock the phone.
Very strange. Actually it gets worse after every update. Today it happened over 3 times in 4 hours. Rediculous and very annoying. It makes it an unreliable product this way. You don't know when it will happen.
Still waiting for that moment when I accidentally buy a living room couch on ebay or something xD.
