Yotaphone 2: Android difference? - YotaPhone

Please vote!

Kitkat was designed to address the low RAM issue that plagued Android of that era, consequently, YotaPhone 2 benefits from that effort. Lollipop, however was catastrophic across the board for majority of devices, with only respite being with the Marshmallow update.

I use lollipop - 5 EU on my 201 , works fine, i saw some people had some issues with the EDP after going to 6,
Seen i can currently only go to 6 with full flash I can't be bothered , the phone works fine with 5 for my usage , if it ain't broken don't fix it...
(i had some weird issues with the EDP amonth ago but after i don't use my 3the party (=cheap ebay) wireless charger any more they seam gone ).

[Q] Should i update from kitkat to lollipop?

Hi. I have the 16gb version of the phone, and today the update for the carrier-free version of the phone became available in my country.
how does lollipop behave compared to kitkat?
Iam mostly interested in the battery life, the free memory left that i can use ( since the phone is said to be 16g and i can use only 10.6.. and i can barely cope with that) and the video focussing at night( the most annoying thing, in fact it does not focus when making videoes at night)
And,from your point of view other pro's and con's to upgrading

I'd say NO. I have Verizon's VS980 rooted, and I tried Lollipop Extreme (stock based) for a day or two. I went back to XDABBEB's VS982.5 v1.2.0. It is a KK Stock based ROM, ported from the G3. The main reasons I left LP for KK...
1. Lack of "Silent Mode". Why they took that out baffles me!
2. Metadata information (track info, title, artist, etc) while playing Bluetooth music does not show up correctly on my car stereo head unit. It does in all KK ROMs I've tried.
These 2 issues were deal-breakers for me! My 2 cents worth... ?

Is it advisable update my moto g4 plus to MPJ24. 139-63 update ?

I got my moto g4 plus today from amazon .
i checked it for few hours, i guess its doing fine.. its still running on marshmallow. now a system update MPJ24. 139-63 was popped up . i read few reviews on this update where people are saying they faced many issues ( network stopped recognizing, volume reduction etc ) after updating to this one. kindly tell me shouild i update it or not ?
Not only this, is it really advisable to update my mobile from marshmallow to nougat ? people are complaining about ghost touch / screen burn only after nougat update ? should i really go for nougat, what am i going to lose if i dont update to nougat >
iam an average / moderate user, i just want my mobile should be healthy and handy when iam in need, i dont any want extra perks related to these updates. . so kindly share pros and cons of this update and also nougat update in moto g4 plus.
Thanks for reading...
Well i got moto xt1644 athene mm default .. n yeah it does freaking heats up . Ghost touch while charging .. n I too wanna know the nougot update solves the problem or brings more ****
Note, this is only my impressions from memory and what I've observed, your experience may vary.
The MPJ24.139-63 Marshmallow update (6.0.1) was the latest MM ROM released in many territories, with the July 1 2016 security patch. When I updated, I noted that the notification sounds and ringtones were quiet, but other than that I didn't notice any other bugs. Wi-Fi, LTE/4G appeared to work okay (I didn't try Bluetooth), and no sign of screen burn-in/ghost touch (on a XT1642 bought directly from Motorola's MotoMaker, with a LGD display). I usually only run my display at 30-50% brightness though. Some people regard MM ROMs to run better than Nougat in terms of battery.
If you flash the 139-63 update, you'll likely be prompted to update to the Nougat update too. If you see yourself using xposed, then Nougat is a no-go for you. I don't know if there's a direct link between the ghost touch/burn in issues when updating to Nougat, or whether the update made it more obvious. Seems that the latest Nougat update (NPJS25.93-14.4., March 2017 update), has fixed quite a few bugs, lag and heating issues from the previous Nougat builds.
[EDIT - looks like there's some evidence of the NPJS25.93-14.8 June security patch coming in]
One thing you'll not have by not updating to Nougat is a newer MM security patch which, as mentioned above, is July 2016, amongst some Nougat specific features (e.g. split screen, more battery efficiency via Doze). However, if you're careful with where you install apps from, keep your bootloader locked and encrypt your device, you should be able to mitigate some of the risks of having an older security patch (though personally I'd update).
Additionally, if you're on a roaming mobile network (think Jio is that in certain regions), on Nougat systems you are not likely to be able to download apps and updates via the Google Play Store unless you fall back to a non-roaming mobile network or Wi-Fi. I don't think this restriction applies on Marshmallow. Looks like the latest Google Play Store updates fix this issue.
Currently I'm running NPJS25-93.14.4 (March 2017 security update) with a custom kernel and root access, and I get about 4-4.30 hours screen on time, 20-30 hours on standby, whilst on LTE all the time. I'm quite happy with it I also tend to charge with an Apple iPhone charger (5V, 1A) overnight, which means my device is not that warm, though the Turbocharger is useful for a quick charge. I also intend on keeping this device for 3-5 years. My usage includes browsing and replying on XDA, reddit, eBay, instagram, Snapchat and Whatsapp, and then also watching Youtube over 4G/LTE at 720p/1080p. I'd say light to moderate use.
Of course, at the end of the day, it's up to you whether you choose to update; if there are any hardware issues and your bootloader is locked, you could have it repaired under warranty (or if it's soon enough, Amazon could give you a refund).

Thank you very much for the explanation sir, .
# Finally, after reading your answer, i decided to upgrade, so went ahead with this update and immediately there were 3 more updates popped out back to back, i updated all of them in one go, so i dont even know the features of these updates :-|
MPJ24. 139-63 update , NPJ25.93-11, NPJ 25.93-14, NPJS25.93-14-4 .
now the status is, Android security patch level - 1 march 2017.
#Now after nougat update , while charging, mobile started heating, i switched off the mobile so dont know about ghost touch, few people are complaining ghost touch is present even while using the mobile too, not only when it plugged for charging .. it scares me alot , because i found my screen as BOE which is prone to ghost touch. currently i feel like as if i bought a bomb which might explode at any time.
# When I charged moto g4 + with nokia X original 3 pin charger _ (Output: DC5V, 1A Input: AC100-240V ), I found less heating with this nokia x charger comparatively turbo charger, though the charging was slow, I think its better to use nokia charger, which may avoid issues in long run…
# return policies were changed in amazon india, they replace mobiles only with in 10days window period that too when their agent certifies the damage ( like if the temperature exceeds 50 degrees only, not even 49) ...
# please suggest me is there anything else that I should check in this 10 days window period
# do u have any tips on protecting camera lens ? I got to know that there are some adhesive protector stickers available for moto g4 + camera lens ? have u ever used them ? can they prevent scratching ?

Gagetshieldz doesn't adhere well so I'd avoid it. I'd get a "hybrid" case (hard plastic and soft rubber combo) which recess the camera lens a good 5 mm so it won't scratch in your pocket or laying on table/ground. Ghost touches occur mostly when people use the phone while Turbo Charging so best to use slow charging if you're to use your phone during charging (or best not to use it while charging period--overnight charging while you sleep). I would not worry about the heat as all phones heat up while Turbo charging, using video camera, playing graphics intense games.
@ HueyT
Thanks for the suggestion, will buy that case ...

The G4 Plus doesn't have that capability as far as I know, unless you are talking about rather mundane knockoffs on software-based ones you get from apps.
thank you

LG G6 H870 V11g update opinions

hi, I just got the opportunity to update my G6 software to V11g. I know that it has come earlier in other European countries. Are there any opinions about the new version of the software?
I haven't really noticed any difference.
It is good when it is not whorst than before at least they do not broke anything. How long are you using V11g version?
Just got OTA update of 11g from EE UK Security patch date 6 Nov 2017.

I dont see any differences, but some members view a better speed shot on take pictures, and better quality.
Yeah i noticed some extra features with face recognition. And i find battery improvements aswell. On V11G for couple of days. Thanks for the hint with camera coyot, i will check that out.

+1. Camera seems faster and crisper. Worth the update.
Haven't seen the battery improvement though.
Norway here. Got it a few days ago, although I check manually as a developer. No difference noticed. Haven't tested the camera improvements, if noticeable. The software is stable and no reason to not upgrade, in fact you should of course as it's an Android security patch update.
Kind of hoping this includes some under the hood stuff that'll makes it more ready for Oreo. The fact that they've held it back at 7.0 made me think they worked on Oreo as fast as possible.
My Galaxy S II has 7.1.2 LOL... LineageOS. As a developer there are of course some news in the APIs in 7.1 and 7.1.2 I wouldn't mind being able to test on a physical device, but really nothing that the emulator doesn't do as it's just software changes for my apps.
Since LG manufactures the Pixel 2 it would be nice if just Google gave them right to use that software minus the stuff only the Pixel can do. The software on the LG G6 is very stock anyway. It's the only non-Google phone I've had where all the extra settings, which are not many and don't bloat the device, are actually useful and some very nice to have over stock AOSP. Kind of LineageOS. Some LG apps I don't use, but they can be disabled. Otherwise I actually use the stock phone/contacts app (same app), SMS/MMS app and Calendar app. They're just fine. Was kind of surprised when I found out one can change the location of the floating action button by holding and moving. It was at the center which is not standard behaviour. To the right it goes and it positions perfectly at the right place according to Material guidelines.
This is my first post here, and the first time I've bought a non-Google device, as it was affordable and got good reviews like the newer V30 IIRC the name. My Nexus 5 died although it was still under the 5 year warranty by law in Norway as long as it's not your fault and then they have to prove the failure is really your fault. A humidity sensor far away from the Wi-Fi chip going off isn't enough. Then they must prove that changing that part fixes the Wi-Fi. Anyway my Nexus 5 got the infamous Wi-Fi chip bug where the chip loses physical connections to the motherboard. Managed to fix it with various recipes here, from physicial pressure with tape to oven baking. But last oven baking killed it after it had worked several days (and I tried again). I'm living in Spain, had to go back to Norway before mid November to claim 5 year warranty, but didn't have that patience. As people today are so stupid and buys ever increasing costly phones, while prices for components of course goes down as the technology inside today really are small increments. Profit. People thinking the more expensive the more status basically. I'm sad Android OEMs have jumped on the iPhone price range but understandable from OEMs standpoint if they sell. Anyway with Nova Launcher and emulators I can test the important new stuff in Oreo (API 26 and 27).
Hope LG keeps delivering phones at a reasonable price as we had Android flagships before, and with much less bloat than Samsung for instance, we just need Oreo. AFAIK LG has promised 2 major updates for 2017 flagships, so at least Android 9. Correct me if I'm wrong. After that it'll be LineageOS, and then I assume there's a good camera substitution. I don't throw away perfectly working phones. Great camera (iPhone 6-7 friends jealous at least), water proofed, good battery life, expandable storage, headphone jack, great fast charging that surprises me still (although I still miss my wireless charging and my luxury charger is collecting dust after my Nexus 5 died), etc. Bought this autumn I'll have warranty until 2021, so if it stops working I'll just go to any store in Norway selling LG phones, and meanwhile they'll have to give you a similar good phone. If they can't repair it (for example lack of parts being old) and can't prove it's your fault, your warranty right is a new phone being just as good that year, say 2020, like the LG G6 was. Would mean an LG flagship for free that year usually, you usually get a choice though, but it must be as good, that years early flagship from some Android OEM. Like an "LG G9" or whatever. I won't try to fix this myself. Just use my backup phones meanwhile, although old, runs LineageOS pretty well, actually better than stock. Got the Samsung Galaxy Nexus and LG Nexus 4 still. My 5 got fried as said.
What I miss from my Nexus 5 is really wireless charging. Bought a luxury charger. So convenient. Where I naturally put my phone down I'm used to put it in the charger right there. The going away from wireless charging was a true surprise... But now that iPhone has it, even the standard (yeah wow, but not a fast charger in the box, that's an LOL!), it'll be in new Android flagships released in 2018 and forward for sure. So convenient it'll be when all places like airports, coffee shops etc all have charging pads at your table. Most pads are really cheap and surely will be getting cheaper, probably many non-OEMs producing a ton right now "compatible with the iPhone 8" but it'll work for everyone.
I wish all EU/EEA countries would adopt Norway's warranty ("reklamasjonsrett") with 5 years for all consumer good from sofas to phones. There's a 2 year warranty for batteries, but when the battery is built-in and you can not change the battery yourself without breaking the manufacturers warranty, the Norwegian law again trumps the manufacturer's and the 5 year warranty kicks in (just did it with my GFs Garmin Watch, didn't even have to pay for transport, which is usual, about 4 USD, because it had to be sent another country, so she got a completely new device, but everything synced to the cloud so setup back to the old one was a sync away, and it was clearly a battery failure as it worked perfectly when plugged in and died immediately when disconnected), because then it's a part of the device. The manufacturer's warranty only counts for the things they offer that are better than the Norwegian one, which usually are none. Sometimes it can be, like iPhone users buying extra warranty, but the 5 year general warranty still counts regarding general failure of the device.
To h*** with planned obsolescence. We even see it here. Working at the country's IT agency we see many devices fail just after or just before 5 years (that accurate they can't always be). But a company, everything from a one man company to a big company, only gets the standard manufacturer's warranty, but as a small country the devices are the same, for consumers and companies (designed for the Norwegian market because of our warranty), except products sold only to companies. So it's weird to see printers fail JUST after 5 years, googling it and seeing people from the US have the same device fail after 1-2 years and EU like the UK users having the device fail after 2 years. We're talking thousands of devices, as I developed the inventory system for Norway's IT agency, and I see a clear pattern. It's no anecdote.
Since the recent update VoLTE seems to work for T-Mobile Germany
Hey...
I didnt notice not very big difference ...
But... One of the major things im noticed.... Its seems like lg has improved the cpu/gpu governors ... The whole phone is now aboslutely fluid ....and also its using more than before deepsleep... No battery/performance mods installed, only magisk and some minor tweaks like youtube vanced and viper + dual speaker mod... Even with around 80 apps its not laggy ... Scrolling now is also more fluid... so ... The update is in my opinion must have....
So scrolling is better now? Is that possible?
Phone was fluid even before the update.
Biggest thing i noticed is that the battery life is improved ?
oh the placebo effect in this thread..
For me it is not that fluid when scrolling in apps like Instagram, Facebook etc.
I have poor battery now, and nothing good
Waiting Oreo
Funny, in the Mideast region the 11g update improved battery life.
From unplugging when leaving the house , after 9 hours of light use at work usually have 80% battery left.
This is my first android phone and I am using it out of box (nothing installed to improve phone performance) I got the feeling that the battery is little bit better and phone is little bit "more fluid".

Just backup the original mixer_paths_tasha.xml from system/etc and then copy and paste the new file in system/etc

Redmi Note 7 Review

So, I bought a Poco F1 back in September 2018, I was really disappointed with the phone because of the touch issues that won't let you play games nor type and the bleeding issue with the LCD. This was one of the worst phone I have ever bought. So, last week someone in my family asked me to buy a nice phone in min budget, while seeking for one, I found only 2 phones that fulfilled the criteria, Zenfone M2 Pro and Redmi Note 7, but since my previous encounter with a Xiaomi phone was not good, I thought that I will go with Zenfone, but after watching the reviews and asking various people on social networks, I at last thought about giving Xiaomi another chance (which I always do), and they did not disappoint me.
1. Touch Issue - No issue related to touch, only the lcd is quite sensitive just like Nokia 7 Plus's screen.
2. Bleeding Issue - I did not see any bleeding issue with my unit.
3. Software Issues - The MIUI 10 skin lags a lot, but I am sure that they will fix it with an update.
4. Camera - Camera is real bad, back camera is average but no details on zoom. Front camera is real ****, no details, it smoothes the skin even when AI and face retouch is off.
5. Performance - As the SD660 should perform, only few lags here and there that can be fixed.
6. Heating issue - Yes, there is a heating issue, while charging as well as while playing games, my Nokia 7 Plus had that issue too, but was later fixed with an update, maybe a custom ROM or an update can fix that too.
7. Camera2API - Full Support of Camera 2 API.
Conclusion -
1. This is surely the real successor of the legendary Redmi Note 3, and I recommend this phone, even when I said that I will never buy a redmi phone because of Poco F1.
2. Other Software related issues may be present, I only checked for the major ones, and it passed the test, I hope that other issues can be solved via an update.
PLEASE FIX CAMERA (4) AND SOFTWARE ISSUES (3) ASAP.
Seems like you got weird bugs that made the phone hot
Mine, running on the stock MIUI that came out of the box, never get hot, even when charging and playing PUBG at the same time
It also has ARB, be careful when downgrade ROMs and MIUI

What steps do you take to increase the longevity/lifespan of your device?

Moto G5 Plus was released in early 2017, and to many of us, it is a 3+ year old phone. Fast forward to 2020, many phones are still launching with 4GB RAM at the same price point. To many of us who do not game, Snapdragon 625 is a good enough processor for our daily tasks. Also, the 12 MP f/1.7 shooter can shoot some wonderful shots using GCam in well lit conditions.
Some of us have moved on to newer devices, but others have some valid reasons to hold on to this device for longer.
In this context, what steps do you take to increase the longevity of your Moto G5 Plus?
As a starter, I do the following:
Use Pixel Experience ROM to get monthly security patches and run Android 10
Use Naptime to reduce standby drain, so as to minimize charging my device everyday to preserve battery cycles.
Uninstall apps that I don't use and enable background battery usage restrictions in Android 10.
Kindly share your list of things that you do to extend the lifespan of your device.
Hi!
Recently i upgraded from Stock Android 8.1 to Arrow-OS (android 10) and it runs very well.
The only problem can be the accu which seem to become weaker. And a Accu change is very complex for this phone (i watched the videos)
I currently have no reason to change the phone. I have no problems with the speed of the phone but i am not the Action-Game player on Android!
So i hope that i can use it for another year until new Android 11 phones came out.

Nice choice you made there! I will also keep this phone for another year, as it meets my daily usage requirements perfectly. Android 11 is going to bring more components that can get updated directly via Project Mainline, so I look forward to Google partially fixing the Android fragmentation problems. I don't use Arrow OS, as dark mode does not make the dialer dark during the last time I tried it. I'm also interested to check out Dirty Unicorns 14.2 for potter, but it's not available via XDA.
By accu, do you mean Accumulator? Then that would be quite difficult to change.

Yes, thats the only problem that could force me to buy a new phone earlier. My experience is that the acuumulator can becomer very weak very fast. On my next phone, i will definitely only buy one where the accumulator can be changed easily. I even use my old Nexus 9 with an new accumulator (there the change was very easy).
I am very happy that so good custom roms exist for the Moto G5 plus. Most of the roms i tried for other devices are not as good as Arrow OS for the G5plus. I never expected that!
More than 3 years good usabilty of a phone which originally costed me 260 Euros. Great!!
