Hi. I have a new AT&T S7 Edge and I'd really like to remove the various bloatware on there. In the past, I've always done this via root and then Titanium Backup or similar, but it sounds like root has really become a mixed blessing on AT&T phones since the time I bought my Note 2 several years back. If I'm willing to forgo root, is there any way for me to remove the AT&T/Samsung bloatware?
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. Much appreciated.

You can't really remove without root you can, however, disable it with Package DisablerPro available in the Playstore it's a couple bucks and works decent enougg

Thanks man. I was afraid that would be the answer, but I'm glad at least to have learned about Package Disabler Pro. Right now, I have the apps hidden with Nova Launcher, but I'd definitely prefer to disable them altogether if possible. Sounds like that's going to be as good as it gets for the S7. So be it.
Will disabling the bloatware affect the Android OS updates? Thanks again for the feedback. Much appreciated.

Anyone have a list of what every app does and which can be disabled on the att rom and which can't?
you don't need the package disabler, just use the built in app disabler, does the same thing.

Package Disabler lets you disable just about any app. Stock App Manager seemed to not be able to disable some apps, including the DirectTV Remote app, which kept popping up on me. Otherwise, it does do the same thing, just with fewer restrictions. For me, it was worth the extra couple bucks.
I've noticed the stock app manager is missing a lot of apps compared to my Note 4, yet these apps will come up in Greenify... So yeah, seems like Package Disabler is the way to go here.
Don't mean to thread jack, how do I disable the quick connect bar in the drop down menu? I'm trying to find it in package disabled pro, thanks again
Also lets not forget the free option:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/debloater-remove-carrier-bloat-t2998294
Since the subject of both the DirecTV and Quick connect notifications popped up here, I'll try to help. I did disable both.
To disable Quick connect, lower the notification shade. Expand it by either dragging down again or hitting the arrow in the upper-right corner.
Click EDIT.
At the bottom, turn off Quick connect.
I'm pretty sure this is how I got rid of the DirecTV notifications:
Click the gear icon in the upper-right corner of the notification.
Click the disable button.
I don't know how to get the Ad back, though

I have Package Disabler Pro. There's an option when you click the 3 dots in the corner to "Disable all Bloatware". I did that and unchecked these:
Amazon - com.amazon.kindle (I use Amazon)
com.facebook.appmanager (Broke Oculus app installs when it was disabled)
com.facebook.system (Broke Oculus app installs when it was disabled)
Color adjustment - com.samsung.android.app.colorblind (Might be able to disable this but wasn't sure so kept it enabled)
Flipboard - flipboard.app (I use Flipboard alot)
Gear VR Service - com.samsung.android.hmt.vrsvc (I use Gear VR)
Gear VR SetupWizardStub - com.samsung.android.app.vrsetupwizardstub (I use Gear VR)
Gear VR Shell - com.samsung.android.hmt.vrshell (I use Gear VR)
Health Service - com.sec.android.service.health (I'm trying out the Samsung health stuff but not sure if I'll keep it)
S Health - com.sec.android.app.shealth
myAT&T - com.att.myWireless (I use the app)
Nfc Service - com.android.nfc (Samsung Pay didn't work with this disabled
Nfc Test 1.3 - com.sec.android.app.nfctest (Samsung Pay didn't work with this disabled
Photo Editor - com.sec.android.mimage.photoretouching (Built in photo editing in Gallery)
Selective focus - com.sec.android.ofviewer (Selective Focus camera mode editing in Gallery)
Samsung account - com.osp.app.signin (For locate mobile and themes)
Samsung billing - com.sec.android.app.billing (For themes)
Samsung Push Service - com.sec.spp.push (I've had problems on past phones disabling this. Need more testing)
I disabled other packages that "Disable all Bloatware" didn't catch:
AT&T Address Book - com.samsung.aab (I use Google so don't need this)
AT&T Software Update - com.ws.dm (My girlfriend has an S7 and I'll let hers update before I break mine lol)
KnoxAppsUpdateAgent - com.samsung.knox.appsupdateagent (Screw Knox lol)
Briefing feed - com.samsung.android.widgetapp.briefing (I don't use it)
DIRECTV - com.directv.dvrscheduler (I don't use it)
DIRECTV Quick Remote - com.directv.promo.shade (I don't use it)
Hancom Office 2014 - com.hancom.office.editor (I don't use it)
Smart Limits - com.locationlabs.cni.att (I don't use it)

Package Disabler Pro Link
I have been reading about Package Disabler Pro and found it impossible to find the download link. I contacted the developer. He provided the link and an explanation. Here are the excerpts.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Message Body: Is the Package Disabler Pro still available and if so, where?
Since I am new here, I am unable to post the link BUT if you search for "google play packagedisabler" in google, you can find the product and install the app. I did and it does work as promised.
Thank you for the link. What is the difference between the free and pro version? I saw that most people liked the PRO version. That was what I was looking for.
>>pro version is now free. pro will upgrade now
I am still confused by the line " pro version is now free.
the free version is the old pro version with full features. It will receive updates.
pro version will be a paid version with better support. features will be same

You can use EZ Package Disabler. It's faster, more professional and has detailed description for each package. Here is the app link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.hecorat.packagedisabler

The system uses around 9GB and some other lingering stuff another 1GB so out of the box you already lose 9.125gb ish. Available to you will be around 23-24GB. You can also just put in a 64gb microsd but it won't be adoptive storage but having the microsd card slot helps out a bit.
Dear XDA,
So I bought the s7 edge to replace my note 7. So before i start loading apps, copying data, making customization I want to set up for the most stable and fastest operation. I got the package disabler pro and i have been playing with it on my N7 before i do anything to the s7 edge. I may use what's app and Instagram but not Skype. I do use the Microsoft office suites though. I wanna be able to use gear vr in the future but I do have the gear s3 frontier coming in too. So I clicked disable all bloatware. So if I do this would i lose any functionality? Any stability? I dont want that so called battery drain. Also i use thr system wide encryption, is that tied to knox ?
I also use the package disabler pro for s7 edge international. I disabled all bloatware, and some other apps. Everything works fine, nothing crashes or freeZe.
Don't click disable all bloatware! Users have reported issues with this as it disables some necessary apps that other apps ping to for updates.
What i recommend is to just go through the list and disable what you don't use. Then recheck the list after a few days under "show me running processes" if using EZ disabler, and disable the apps that are running which you don't use. That's what I've done and have had good battery life

Generally speaking if you don't know what packages to disable, then I would avoid a package disabler. You might risk freezing something important.
If your really focused on disabling packages, just download "EZ package disabler." Because of 2 reasons:
1) EZ provides a description of each package and what it does. So you know yourself what to disable if it sounds like bloat.
2) PDP is influenced by Samsung, Samsung tell the app Dev to hide certain packages cause it doesn't want users to disable Samsung bloatware, which is why I use EZ package disabler instead

Well before buying the package disabler, It checked to make sure both it and ez package have the same features. They do. Also I use most of the samsung software. Does ez package actually tell you what package is what or does it direct you to a google search? Thats what package disabler pro does. Btw I am using PDP by PoliceDeveloper, I heard there are other copies of this on the net!
Almost all of the AT&T apps can be uninstalled or at least disabled, but Device Help, which is just a stupid "How To.." app is stuck there. Is this a bug?
I was able to "Hide" it in the app drawer settings though, so that's nice.
I was able to disable it via Package Disabler Pro, but not in the App Settings. I believe it was like that on my Note 7 as well.
Just buy bk package disabler on play store. Its better than Samsung package disabler because it shows you what is actually running and how much ram it is using. Be careful what you disable though

Hello. In bixby every 3 news appear advertisement and in many apps appears banner ad up or down. I tried apps like adhell but don't work. I ask if anyone found any way to stop this adv without rooting phone. I hope an answer. Thanks
is it impossible really???
what do you mean adhell doesn't work? are you sure you properly activated it? adhell is by far the best way, gives you system wide adblocking without root or tripping knox.
try it again
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s8/themes/adhell-2-rootless-ad-blocking-t3663559
maybe best to just disable the bixby packages. google assistant is better anyways.
I use Adguard (paid version covers any in app ads, free is only browsing). Works great for me but yeah dont use Bixby.
Dear All,
During the past 10yrs at least I was /am a Samsung fan but not only.
I was using Galaxy phones from S4 up until now to S20Ultra. But also Oneplus devices and iPhones.
During this time I was able to see and maybe understand what is causing battery draining on Android devices, especially to Samsung ones.
Using Package Disabler Pro I was able to reduce at maximum the battery drain especially during standby.
Below are some insights from my own experience.
I did provide them to my friends who have S10+ and Note 10+ devices and they have now improved standby battery life for their devices.
What I did:
Step #1 - Download and install Package Disabler Pro or Package Disabler Pro Samsung (I am unable to provide the link because it is a paid application, but it is usable)
Step #2 - Enable as Admin
Step #3 - Disable the following bloatware
AndroidAuto if you don;t have a car enabled with AndroidAuto technology
ANT+ services
AR app if you are not a fan of them
Basic Daydreams
Bixby all services
all IMS services
CarmodeStub
Default Print Service
Dictionary
Emergency
Enterprise SIM Pin SErvice
Facebook services without the aplication itself
GameDriver and services
Google Play Services for AR
Google Text to Speach
Magnifier
Market Feedback Agent
Ok Google
Photosaver
Print Service
Samsung Daily
Samsung Galaxy Friends
Samsung Kids Installer
Samsung Mirror Link
Samsung Push Service
Samsung Text to speach
SwiftKey app
Tags

The MOST IMPORTANT is to disable the following:
com.sec.ims
imsLogger
IMS Service
IMS Settings
ANT + DUT
ANT Radio Service
ANT+HAL Service
ANT+ PLugins Service
Bixby Routines
Bixby Service
Bixby Vision
Bixby Voice
Bixby Voice Stub
BixbyVision Framework
Default Print Service
Facebook App Installe
Facebook App manager
Facebook Services
Nearby device scaning

Print Spoolr
OK Google enrollment
Samsung Daily
Samsung Push Service
Thank you so much for this list - I was thinking of using this package disabler but dont know what apks do disable. Works great so far
EDIT = No changes. i tested it for 24h and standby drain is still the same. (1.5%/h overall, night 0.5%/h)

Exynos or snapdragob? And are you on 120hz or 60hz.
Looks good but something from that list crippled VOLTE and the samsung messages app. Will keep testing and try to figure it out. I'm on sprint S20. Thanks
From my understanding, some or all of the following are required for VOLte and calling via WiFi:

I have always done this to every Samsung device I have owned and enjoy minimal standby drain.
Btw CCSWE App Manager is a better buy than Package Disabler Pro since the later has license linked to your device Id, you change your phone, your license is lost.
Additionally I use CCSWE(paid once) on all my Samsung devices.

just because you didnt need the apps it dont mean other wont need it.
IMS is important for VoLTE, VoWifi and RCS, why would you disable this.
Also you know what Emergency is for? It not sounds right to do disable that...

Just saying pros and cons... I guess it comes down to preference... One can argue that u don't have to install an app on the phone lol
Anywho, still a good list for reference either way u want to do it
Just use KILLAPPS Pro version.
Activate USER APPS and SYSTEM APPS
Then you'll see that there are like 290 app running, kill them all.
Also use Deep Sleeping in App Power Management.
I use Exynos and battery life is kicking after update TD5
I had already disabled a few apks myself and I was getting around 0.7% screen off discharging speed.
After following the guide and disabling a few more, it went down to 0.4%.
Thank you very much.
