I personally use the Phone Info app from the play store. I only ask as I was going to try to see what should be your latest firmware VS what you are on. E.g I'm on BTU and if I didn't have a custom ROM, my latest update is DQD7 still on the April update.
If your knox is already void, would you consider a custom ROM? Superstock 2.8 is fantastic and has the May security pack.

Hello all from Italy.
Two days ago I rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4 and I'm wondering what to do when Samsung will release some new update for this phone, as the OTA feature is now deactivated due for firmware modifications.
I've also reset the counter via "Triangle Away" and the firmware is now detected as "original".
I'm not interested for the moment in a custom firmware and would like to keep the original Samsung.
My questions are:
1) can I incrementally update my phone via Kies, any times Samsung will release new patches (OTA is disabled) ?
2) someone told me Odin has an update feature that permit to install incremental updates anytime Samsung release them, but I've not found this feature.
3) if I use Odin to update the firmware I will loose any data, applications, settings and homescreen configurations or I can restore a backup made with Kies?
I'm sorry for my poor english, for my inexperience and hope to get help from someone.
Thank you and have a nice day.

if u have rooted device for now you wont get any ota and cannot get any update using kies u can use Odin to flash latest update available for your variant
the firmware you can get it from sammobile.com or u can also see my sign it has a link
2nd option
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250824
use the link above it has pre rooted firmware which will allow you to get OTA and kies update but once u flash u ll loose root
Note: the 2nd option is valid for variant i9505 international use only if u have that or go through the link to get more details
Thanks for your reply.
Just a question: if I unroot my phone using the "SuperSU" feature then can I have OTA and Kies updates working again or a total flash is still needed?
In few words a unroot with the SuperSU feature is useless or not?

U must flash pre rooted firmware from the link I gave to get OTA
or must flash stock firmware and reset the device to get OTA that's the best option as per me
Hey guys,
I have a GT-I9505, and they just released the 4.3 update today, yay Unfortunately, I bought it rooted, but reset all the counters. When I open up kies and hit the firmware upgrade and initialisation and enter all the info it needs, it says that i need the TMH flavored update, but I want an other one, the VDH based one. So, if I flash this rom, will I receive ota updates? And will kies recognise it? And i don't know why i care about it, but will the knox work too, with the binary counter?
Or do you think i should wait a bit more, till de TMH based rom is released and update it via kies?
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:

You need to wait for your carrier to also allow the update...

Try updating trough the Smart Switch software from Samsung... It will automatically flash the latest version of stock. If it is stull on the same version it means that the update hasn't came for your region

Just try with SS no matter if it shows updates or not. If it doesn't, try Odin.

If its not letting you I don't think you can. Just try to get on PC and update through samsung kies.
You can also go on sammobile.com and download the latest software/firmware and ODIN it to your phone. Instructions are right on the website as well as the latest ODIN software.

Correct root=no ota
I dont know what happened but when I check root again after two hours i got this:
so is it any better than the last MM update?
I checked and i dont have OTA marshmallow. .i dont have pc to try with samsung kies
i have installed it on my EUR phone and it flies as a first impression , security patch update august 2018 though. will report battery life later in the week
Can i change something in phone to get update? Why is happening this? Why i dont have update OTA? Does anyone have this problem and how is fixed? My big problem is that i dont have pc..
If your phone is rooted there may be a program that disables the update applications (com.samsung.sdm and com.samsung.sdmviewer if I remember correctly). What applications (other than stock) are on the phone, such as titanium backup, app quarantine, etc.
Now if someone rooted the phone to make it work with your phone network or other software you use this update may disable the phone and/or software requiring root.
Andrew
I dont have any app in phone that need root for working.
I found and install this SDM but i need a phone to connect with..
can you give ne a little more explanation of this app? What do i need to do when I install it?
I dont have anyone app in phone that need root to work.
Can you give me a litlle more explanation abot this SDM, i found and install it on phone but..i dont know how to use it
Was it not already on the phone? This app automatically checks for OTA updates and downloads them.
You can open settings, scroll all the way down to the 'system' section, click on 'system updates' and then select 'check for updates'. Just make sure you have mobile data connection of some kind. (Cell or Wifi).
SDM should be installed on the phone unless someone specifically removed it. Of course be careful what you download and install. Lots of malicious software out there... If you had the ability to see the 'system update' option in settings, you already had the com.samsung.sdm package and did not need to install anything.
Was this phone sold by your carrier/provider originally or is it one you bought online and was made to work with your carrier/provider?
It is from provider Tmobile.
I give my phone to service provider and pay 10€ and thay put 6.0.1 marshmallow to my phone.
When i get back to my home,I get info that I can update android.
I have download the update, 300mb but when i try to install it,i cant. I get some update error.
Does anyone know what is this update? And how to install it? I have download a couple of times but its always the same. Can not update.
I finally have Marshmallow 6.0.1, but I cant install this next update.

Hi, thanks for reading. My S8+ G955F stopped finding updates after 2018 July's security patch, when I try to search for updates manually it says that the device is up to date already (its 2019 April's 20th today).
I never flashed a custom ROM, it's 100% stock and Knox is intact.
I wonder if there is a way to just update with Samsung official tooling or just flash with TWRP the OneUI Pie official ROM without having to go through every update to date manually (there must be dozens of them).
I attached my current build and firmware below.
Thanks for reading and have a great day.

You could try first Samsung's Smart Switch to see if that will update your phone.
If not the other way would be to download your firmware and flash with Odin.

No you don't need to do incremental updates
Just update to the version you want
