Don't have phone yet, need to know if I need to return it brand new in box, or if it works.

There are ways to remove the ads, but they aren't great solutions, and you still have the Locked bootloader.
You are better off paying the extra cash and not having to deal with it.

pay the extra, unlockable bootloader, n yes it works i have the amazon ver

root access should be possible with this exploit

sadly I do not have a amazon variant of the phone to create the root access as they do not exist in germany

It shows you exactly what they are doing with screenshots, seems pretty easy to follow.
Using a computer is all about learning. Why don't you try and follow what they do before just throwing your hands up and complaining about it?

I've also heard that amazon is working with at&t to make the store work for at&t customers.
Rooting voids my warranty. It allows me to use third party apps, but I shouldn't have to lose a warranty that's part of the purchase price.
most people on here voids the warranty to root it and hack it soo i dont see your logic
you can use sideload wonder without rooting your bravo phone.
There is now an app for that, search for "Sideload Enabler for BRAVO", no rooting required

New Bar on FireTV recommending TV Shows

Yesterday I thought my firetv auto updates as every one has been discussing on the forum as I saw a new bar on top of AFTV menu. This was the first I had seen the bar. However there was no update to the firmware and I still have my root. I've done quiet a few firetv's and none have gotten updated after setting the com amazon update to disable.
Has anyone else seen that bar. ? How does a new feature/bar appear without a firmware update?
I have it too.. well the GUI is made in HTML 5. all they would have to do is update the source page and the next time your AFTV refreshes the page, it sees there is a new one online and refreshes with that instead of the locally cached one.

Thanks for the explanation. But honestly I did get worried. I've been contemplating that probably amazon has a hidden server which it will use to update the firetv's to the latest ones as there are reports around. Hope not.

I hate the enforcement of certain ads of amazon such as Transparent.
Have the same banner.
Paid 100 euros for this device and now they are adding ads?!
None of my 3 FTV's is showing the Banner I am still on pre-rooted FW version 51.1.4.0_514006420+updated

I have the stick which I bought at a local Best Buy the day before Thanksgiving, and it also has that banner. The stick updated when I connected it.

That would be nice. That add area reminds me of the add space taken up on the Roku which I detested from day one. I am thankful for having a rooted Fire TV with an XBMC launcher and finally moving away from Roku for good.
I thought I was going crazy thinking was that ad there before and it's bugging the hell out of me.
If the nexus player was available in the UK I would ditch the firetv in a heart beat now because of this.

Is there an xposed mod for this? Its annoying for sure but not a deal breaker. The firetv is superior than the nexus TV.
If you go to bestbuy and do a stock check, the firetv's are sold out but you will find abundant nexus's, appletv's, roku's.

i think i'll use agk launcher and see how its going to perform ...
since you cant attach a hdd (or can you) there is not much need in voiding warranty....
do you have any ideas why you want to root it ?

Don't think installing PlayStore on an Amazon device is possible without root. As far as I know PlayStore needs to be system app...
Maybe you can flash it through recovery. But either way I don't think any of this is possible without losing your warranty
For me PS Controller would be priority #1!
*edit:
taking back everything... the "normal" Fire TV seems to allow to install Google Play Services and Store without problems!
But unfortunately I think its not possible for the controller thing

I think I remember reading in the original root thread that Android pay works. Samsung Pay definitely does not. Never felt the need for either one as I don't find the act of swiping a credit card terribly burdensome.
Yes, but it would be nice to have when you forget your wallet at home.

If you can remember to grab your phone, you can remember to grab your wallet too. Better yet keep your phone with your wallet. Lol.
Anything pay will have issues if you have root. You have to choose what is more important to you.

Qualcomm backdoor found

So recently there was an article on XDA about finding a Qualcomm app preinstalled that could be used as a backdoor granting root without unlocking the bootloader. It doesn't clarify whether such an app would work on all Qualcomm chipsets (835) since it's shared by various devices. Thoughts?

It was found on a one plus, but if it's a Qualcomm app it's should work on Android in general
Well, you would need the same Qualcomm app software to switch it on, and have to use fastboot to push it to the device. If your goal is to achieve root, you can just push a modified boot image, which is the best way to do it now, to the device. So it would be the same amount of work at best.
I'm definitely not an expert, though...

That app has to be installed as system. It's useless outside of Oneplus being dumb and leaving it in their image.

True, but those with VZW pixels whose bootloader can't be unlocked...it seemed plausible. It makes sense though that'd it'd have to be installed as a system app though. But the possibility of root without unlocking.. It came across like finding a 4 leaf clover

Easier solution, have Verizon replace your device due to burn-in. I did that on Saturday and got my replacement yesterday. Guess what? They sent me a Google Store unlocked device as my replacement.

I don't think either. I think what's happening is due to Google increasing the warranty by a year and by the announcement of burn-in being possible Google might just be directly handling all the surplus on replacement devices personally.

Not just system. PRIVILEGED system, and signed with the vendor key. You can't just copy it on, even if you already have root access to the device, because the platform will reject it unless its been signed by the same private key as the platform.
