S6 edge+ SM-G928A - Galaxy S6 Edge+ Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I just purchased a S6 edge+ SM-G928A which is I believe from the at&t network in the usa, I purchased it from
a electronics retailer on ebay, the phone works perfect and came with MM installed however I want
to upgrade to Nougat and the at&t software updater refuses to download which I believe is down to
me not having a at&t sim card, something that is impossible for me as I am from the UK and currently use the three network.
My questions are
is it possible to upgrade the firmware and if so can I flash the usa firmware or do I have to find one that is international or european?
I semi familiar with using odin and flashing etc so that part I dont really need help with, I just need advice on flashing the right rom .
could i for instance flash 3 uks firmware for this phone? or another uk provider.
any advice appreciated.

I believe since you're flashing official firmware, it won't be tripped. I bought an S6 from Germany and flashed with 3 UK firmware and can confirm my KNOX counter hasn't tripped.

I've skimmed through the tutorial video and it doesn't seem to have tripped Knox.
I'm looking to switch my s6 from TEL (Telstra AU) to XSA (Open AU).
Has anyone else tried to do this?
Cheers
will this work with an att s6

Can't find firmware for US
I'm on a T-Mobile Galaxy S6 right now. I want to follow your tutorial, even if I am in the US should I use the UK firmware model you used in the video? Is there a special international unlocked firmware for the US version (like there is one for Spain, for UK, etc).
Also, if the UK model will work on my T-Mobile phone in the US, will I suffer battery hits because the phone will be looking for UK bands or will it recognize that I'm in the US and will only look for the US bands? Thanks!!

It would look for bands based on the SIM I believe, but whether you can flash another region ROM is questionable. I thought there was something to prevent that, but I'm new to Samsung. I'm also curious if this will work. If it does, I'll just purchase an AT&T version as opposed to an unlocked one and then use this process.

Well the BTU model has always meant internationally unlocked in terms of Samsung devices, so hopefully this will work. I'm trying to flash it on my T-Mobile device and then rooting it. Does anybody have any idea how to change the model number of the phone to BTU as well so I can get OTA updates?
@madscientistdam
Looks like there is another BTU build added to the sammobile site wonder if anyone will receive a ota?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-G920F/BTU/
Received an ota this morning guys, and it was the new build I posted above this post.
Just did this to my Vodafone AU S6 and it worked a treat. Also got an OTA update after a couple of reboots. Knox is still intact. Should work for other Aussie telco phones. Fixed my random freeze's and reboots that where happening flat out at one stage.
*Update- still getting random lockups, even after setting up as a new phone (using no backup). Flash went fine though...
Question. Would this be good for an Ireland Three carrier S6?
Cheers!
Debrand an American S6 Edge (Verizon) for use in Germany
Hi!
You write in your video tutorial that you don’t suggest it for American smartphones. I have a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge from America (Verizon branded, firmware: G925VVRU4BOG9) and want to use it in Germany. So far, I have some annoying limitations (I can’t send text messages and I can’t roam). Do you – or anyone else reading this – have a hint or even a little tutorial for me? I’m so annoyed as neither Samsung nor Verizon or my German SIM card provider FONIC offers me support. The phone was a present from an American friend. So I’m not the original customer. I guess that’s one reason they don’t help. Whatever: I’ll appreciate your help! Thanks…

Just try the tutorial, you don't have a working phone right now, the worst that could happen is a hard brick

And a hard brick is exactly what I don’t want to risk…
this I assume only works on the International 920F version of these phone, you can flash most any region on these (hence international is your first clue), this does not however work on the (American Carrier) branded phones like Sprint, ATT, Verizon, US Cellular ect ect , these are I am told firmware specific, I tried flashing T-Mobile firmware on a sprint phone and brick city, I mean even sprint could not get it back up flashing sprint firmware with their jig... so beware. U.S. Based Carriers got you under their thumb.

S6 Edge Plus from one carrier to another

Hi all,
I'm new to Android so please forgive my ignorance. I have a T-Mobile S6 edge plus and I want to replace the software with the canadian Rogers variant. Is this even possible? I know that the stock fw for G928W8 is not yet available, but when it'll be, could it be installed on a t-mobile phone? I mention that the phone is rooted and unlocked and it works perfect on Rogers.
thanks!

Flashing international Firmware

Hello everyone,
yesterday, a family member gifted me an s7 from the USA (SM-G930P). He bought the phone off SPRINT as a SPRINT unlocked version, and, of course, because I live in Europe and want to use the phone with a European SIM card I have the "hands free activation" mark that is sitting on the top left edge of the display. I also noticed some changes, for example the "mobile data" toggle is nowhere to be found and also I don't have the options to choose the network mode (2G/3G/4G). I love the phone and I also would like to keep using it, I only need some answers from you guys.
My first question is, if the phone will actually let me use 4G network with my European SIM card, or will I be limited to 3G?
My second question is, If I can flash an international firmware for another carrier and another country on the phone, and if so, will I have the advantages of that firmware, like the Mobile Data Toggle??
Thank you very much for your answers.
If you install the 'Network' app you might be able to change the network type.
In general you should be able to use an unlocked P variant with a foreign SIM but you may have to activate with a Sprint SIM first.
You can't flash the international version since it's Exynos and the P version is Qualcomm CPU.
I am not sure if this model has Samsung region lock which is another thing to consider.
If I was you I would try to flash the U firmware (US unlocked) as it has the most support for international 4G bands among the Qualcomm US models. It also doesn't have all of the Sprint bloatware on it.

Thank you for your reply. I am currently using the European Sim from my carrier and I have no problems with it. I managed to get rid of the Bloatware by using Package Disabler Pro, but it still sits there somewhere on my phone. So far, the phone is working very well and other than the bloat sitting on my memory and the lack of LTE, I have no complaints.
Can you tell me if someone has tried to flash the U firmware on a P model with success?

I had bought an unlocked Sprint galaxy S7 (930P) off ebay which died on me. Got it repaired from the service center and they sent me a locked device instead. The phone is currently on Software Version - G930PVPS4BQC1 and the hardware revision is Rev 0.6. I'll be using the phone in India and have a few questions.
1. I need to get this SIM unlocked from a service online. Does anyone know of a reliable place to do so?
2. If I flash the U Rom on it after unlocking it, will I lose the unlock? (I don't mind downgrading from Nougat to Marshmallow)
3. Should I unlock first then flash the ROM or flash the ROM first and then try to get it unlocked?
4. Will flashing the ROM directly unlock the phone itself?
Please advise.
...
you could try gsm zambia to unlock your phone it works i tried it myself a few days ago, also after my phone got unlocked i flash the U firmware/rom and the unlocked remained. so you should unlock your device first then flash the U firmware :good:
PS. if you one nougat better to downgrade if you can do marshmallow so when you wont have any issues flashing to U firmware. :cool

G930PVPU6BRD2 sim unlock,help!

Hello,i'm new at that forum.Few weeks ago i bought s7 (sprint) from ebay and the firmware model is G930PVPU6BRD2 which has bootloader 6 and no other firmware is installing at that phone, otherwise it is bricked (i tried 4 or 5 firmware and root methods but no good result) and if i install correct (G930PVPU6BRD2) software it is working.I live in Georgia and there are 3 mobile operator which provides LTE bands and my phone refuses sim (it says "Invalid Sim").
someone can help me to solve this problem?
P.S. my friend also bought s7 edge (sprint) from ebay and give it to technical, which what i think unlock LTE bans and firmware is still G935PVPU6BRD2 with sprint built in apps but system message is still activation required, but phone works great with calling and LTE.He told me that technical firstly downgrade phone and than upgrade it (he is noob at phones and actually don't know which steps technical done to unlock sim and cann't tell me whole process).
Please help if anyone tried some working method for that problem!
any advice will be appreciated.

Switching firmware for SM-G975U (need advice)

Hi guys, need some advice on S10+.
I'm from an Asia country and last year I bought a new S10+ from a online seller which does grey imports for mobile phones, because I want a Snapdragon version over the Exynos, which is what most Asia countries get.
The Model number (SM-975U) and Baseband version (G975USQS3CTB6) are indicating this is a US variant but I can't tell which carrier it is because there is no carrier logo on the phone or when I turn on the phone, no bloatwares as well.
The only down side is this Baseband/carrier does not have updates since March 2020. I tried checking for updates but got nothing.
What I try to get:
1. Latest original firmware which will continue to update itself (hopefully)
2. No carrier bloatware
3. No need root or custom roms (Doesnt go well with banking apps)
I have experience rooting and flashing custom firmware on my previous Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, but I can't remember if I have done unlocking bootloader before, lol.
Need advice on:
1. Which firmware should I choose?
2. I remember XDA forums used to have useful Guide under Sticky Threads but now I don't see it. I hope this guide will be able to help me with what I am trying to do.
3. I probably sound stupid here, is there any flashable settings file that is friendly to Asian region/telco? I am noticing a bit of network weakness on my phone, I hope its just me.
Thanks to anyone who reads this.
You've aquired the US Unlocked Snapdragon variant, it's not associated with any US carrier and it's not bootloader unlocked. Flashing updated FW is likely your best bet, it's available here.

The only other option for an update is Samsung's SmartSwitch. Whether or not it's compatible depends on your local service provider.
