Tab A Series Model Number: Tab A6 vs Tab A 7" - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

I purchased 2 Galaxy Tab A 7" devices back in February for my kids. Long story short - they are still in their boxes. I'm thinking about giving them to the kids now that they are on summer break. I came to these forums just to check out what is available for these devices and what development is or is not being done. I noticed that another device seems to share the same model number as mine.
The description from where I purchased them says the model is SM-T280NZKAXAR, which I'm taking as SM-T280 and then the build number perhaps..? While browsing these forums, I've seen this Guide to root the Tab A6 T280, as well as another Q/A thread refering to Tab A6 (2016) SM-T280.
Then there is this ROM and this recovery both being advertised as Tab A 7.0 - SM-T280.
So which is correct? are both wrong? has the 6" been discontinued and the 7" took it's place?
Thanks for the feedback.

The 'Tab A6' is actually the Tab A 7" 2016. The SM-T280 is the WiFi-only variant

So A6 = A 7", and both are SM-T280 WIFI only. Oh Samsung and your naming conventions...
Thanks!

There is already a thread for exactly this, you should add the news there so we don't have multiple threads with the same info. but yeah, the other one does need some cleaning up.

So basically, you wanted to start a thread, in a forum (which is designed to hold discussion) then tell us we can't discuss anything in it? I think you might have this place confused with an RSS feed.

If it gets too far out-of-hand, I'll lock it.
A small amount of cleaning up is ok but I'm not going to waste my time on a lost cause.
Frankly, you'd be far better off using the wiki for stuff like this.

You have the 2012 version of the Note 10.1. It has nothing in common with the device this forum's dedicated to - the Note 10.1 2014 Edition. Here's your forum...

Global KitKat update list for multiple devices confirmed by Samsung Poland

Yesterday, Samsung U.S. confirmed that 14 devices will soon be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat. However, there was no mention of when international models would be receiving the KitKat update. Fret not users, as we now have confirmation as to which international models will be getting the Android 4.4 KitKat update. The list is Samsung Poland’s official KitKat update list that was obtained today by Polish blogger Robert Nawrowski. It is to be noted that not all models listed below would be making the switch to KitKat right away. They will move to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, and eventually receive Android 4.4 KitKat.
Here are the international models that will be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat:
Galaxy Note 3
Galaxy Note 2
Galaxy S4
Galaxy S4 Active
Galaxy S4 Zoom
Galaxy Mega 6.3
Galaxy Mega 5.8
Galaxy Grand
Galaxy Express
Galaxy Note 8.0
Galaxy Note 10.1
Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 Edition
Galaxy Tab 3 7.0
Galaxy Tab 3 8.0
Galaxy Tab 3 10.1
The list is identical to the list of models detailed by Samsung U.S., although unlike the U.S. list, it isn’t clear as to when these mobiles will receive the OTA update. Most devices launched last year are included in the list, with a few notable exclusions like the Galaxy Core. It is interesting to see that the Galaxy S3 won’t be making the switch to Android 4.4 KitKat, but considering that it is now close to two years since its official launch, we won’t blame Samsung for giving the S3 a miss.

[NOOB ALERT] Can you please help me determine which is which of the A series?

I am thinking of buying an A7 [one released on Dec. of 2015]. But I want to know the device model name for each of the A-series device to avoid confusion, since I'm thinking of buying over-the-web. Pretty please anyone? :fingers-crossed:

The A-series is Samsung's media-premium range:
- The first generation came out in the last quarter of 2014, and is made up of the A3, A5, and A7. But they are known as the "A 2015". Its design is completely metal and is inspired by the Galaxy Alpha. In August 2015 Samsung launched the Galaxy A8.
- The second generation was launched in December 2015, and was available for sale since January of this year. It is known as A 2016 (example A7 (6)) and is made up of A3, A5, A7 and A9. Then in April of this year the A9 Pro also came out. Then, on august launched the second generation of Galaxy A8. Its design combines metal with glass and is inspired by the Galaxy S6.
Another of the great differences, is that this second generation incorporates fingerprints sensor.
The first image attached is from the first generation, and the second from the second generation.
If you want to have a look at the specifications, you can enter the following links: Here or Here.
Greetings.
The 2015 versions are called A300, A500, A700, A800, while the 2016 versions have a 10 in the model name, A310, A510, A710, A810.

Old vs New Galaxy Note 8

Did Samsung really have a Galaxy Note 8 from several years ago and now a 2017 version? It seems from the forum postings this is so but I can wrap my brain around reusing the same model number so close together.
Yes, I believe it was a tablet; the smaller (8") version of the Note 10.1. It would be nice if the naming convention of these devices was more consistent as to not confuse people, but I'm not sure which way is better and it seems that neither do the manufacturers.

Two diff devices. The Note 8.0 is this thread, and it is a tablet, unless you are in the UK, which is a phablet.
No comparisons, yet newbies want to post threads here without taking notice the device shown for reference and the bazillions of posts are older than the new Note 8.
Most all here know and state their devices by model number and have used Note 8.0 not Note 8 as a name, unless they are lazy and don't type the .0 at the end.
