Posted this in the Gear S3 forum:
Tested multiple SMS apps (including stock, Textra, Yaata, Chomp) on my Chinese variant Huawei Mate 9 flashed with European ROM and finally found one that: 1) Consistently sent notifications to the Gear S3 (including sitting in the notifications until cleared/read); and 2) Allowed me to respond directly from the Gear S3 with a copy of the outbound message synced to the phone!!!
The app is QKSMS available for free from the Play store and does not require any mods to the Gear S3. I do not have Android Wear installed on my phone either.
If you try the app please post on your experiences.
Confirmed. Thanks.

I have a Note 3 and the Sony SBH52 headset. When I get Gmail emails, Facebook and Twitter updates they appear on the headset and will be read out.
The problem I have is with the default email app on the Note 3 which I use for my work exchange emails - these do not get notified or appear on the headset (notifications appear on the Note 3).
having looked at the Sony smart connect app on Google play it states that it only works for the default email app on Xperia handsets.
My question is does anyone know if there is a work around that will enable me to receive notifications from the default email app on the Note 3 onto the headset? - a long shot I know.
Thanks

I have tried a lot of variations with no success. I thought Watchit would enable this but it doesn't seem to. Please let me know if you have any luck.
Does the pairing via nfc work?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
NFC works perfectly for pairing. The only thing that does not work is notifications from the default email app on the Note 3. The Sony software for the SBH states that the device is not supported for email (using the default Note 3 email app)
Just got my sbh 52 still exploring it. But definitely a good buy

Hi all. Is there any way to wake note 3 by using the sbh52? so I can use voice commands?
Thanks in advance
I am able to send email from my Gear S, but cannot receive email to my Gear S. Has anyone else had this issue ? I already contacted Samsung Tech Support. They cannot help. Just got off the phone with T-Mobile Tech Support. T-Mobile is sending me another SIM Card ..... I doubt if that will help though, because everything else seems to be working just fine.
I can send and receive Text Messages. I can go onine with Opera, do Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, make and receive phone calls, play games, check the Weather, Read the News, listen to Music, even read ePUB, Text, PDF files, and more.
Gear S Email Bug .....
Well now ... this is interesting ..... I've called Tech Support many time regarding the E-mail issue with my Gear S. I can send E-mail messages from my Gear S with no problem, but I get no E-mail Notifications on my Gear S.
Finally, Samsung Tech Support tells me that according to their information the Gear S does not have the function to Send E-mail, but only >>> Reply to E-mail messages .... Hmm .... Now, let's examine that claim carefully ....
So, I should be able to Reply to E-mail, which means that in order to reply, I need to be able to receive the E-mail Message first, right ? This doesn't make any sense at all.
The Gear S is only capable of sending E-mail, but also Replying to E-mail, which means that my Gear S should be receiving E-mail, which is necessary for me to reply.
BUT .... this gets even better (actually worse !!!) now .... The Tech Support told me that according to his information, I need to check my E-mail on my Note 4 to reply ... !!! What ... !!!
Tech Support also keep telling me that all I need to do is to swipe down the E-mail app on my Gear S, in order to see my E-mail messages, then chose "Reply". There is no such function on my Gear S.
Also, another problem ..... I have E-mail selected in Notifications for my Gear S, along with many other Notifications, which seem to be working just fine. So, if the E-mail app is one of the choices in the Notification Settings, then why is it not working ???
This is why I'm certain this is a Bug/Glitch. I have done the Factory Reset many times. I even uninstalled 9 or 10 Gear System apps on my Note 4 (an additional three of the Gear System apps cannot be uninstalled), then reinstalled, went through the entire Set-up process all over again. And still I cannot receive E-mail or E-mail Notifications on my Gear S. I've done this numerous times.
So, for now, I'll have to stick with only Text Messages, but many people I know don't do Texting.
Well guess what ..... After messing around with the Email (not Gmail) Settings, I finally have my Gear S receiving E-mail Messages and Notifications !!! Strange that so many Tech Support people could not find the solution to this issue !!!
Now I need to figure out how to get my Gear S to receive Notifications for GearGram, Twitter, Google+ and more ......
My old phone was a Galaxy Note II which I had since it was released (Non 4g version unfortunately) and once I got it set up and apps installed I didnt update jack and it has been working fine and was a dream but now with the S7 Edge I have no option than to download latest stuff including having the latest firmware on the system.
I used to have Red Alert Live Wallpaper handle the incoming notification of text messages and when I sent a message I had a custom sound say "Message Transmitted" which was taken from Star Trek but with my new phone I cannot seem to separate the notifications its either an all in one and let me tell you "Message Transmitted" when you receive a message is confusing AF.
I used to use GO SMS but with the latest version a LOT of stuff has been excluded but I was wondering are these limited settings because of the new version of the OS (Dont know what silly name they are calling it now) that is released or can you just not do this anymore.
I hope I explained my issue well enough if not ill be awake in about 9 hours so I can reply to any inquiries.
Anybody know how to set up separate notifications for Sending / Receiving texts ?
Unable to do this stock or with Go SMS Pro.
Anyone have any thoughts on how to troubleshoot this issue -
Have Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge on Verizon. Was using Android Messenger by Google as my SMS app. About three weeks ago, my wife's texts from her Samsung Galaxy S7 on Verizon (also generated by Android Messenger) started coming in under the name "Anonymous" instead of her contact info and I could not text her (either as a reply or a new message). After some troubleshooting, we both switched to the default Samsung texting app and I can, usually, text her. However, sometimes, I get "Error 5: Other Network Error" when texting her. By waiting a while the message will go through. Android Messenger (which I keep trying to switch to) refuses to send messages to her - via the phone or Android Messenger for Web.
I can't find any discussion that this is a known issue for Android Messenger. I can't find any settings on either phone or Verizon online that says that there's some issue. Does anyone have any thoughts?
hey i had the same problem.
what i had to do was disable the samsung messaging app before setting the Android messenger app to default.

Weird. Well, it won't let me do that for some reason, but I did learn that I was behind on OTA updates by about 2 months. After doing both Aug. and Sept., it works. Not sure why. Guess we can mark this as solved.
Just got my S10+ this week, and have been busy playing with settings, etc..I'm coming over from the Note 8 (AT&T).
Question for everyone. Do you prefer the built in Samsung Messages app, or Google Messages. I like both, especially now with the dark them more readily available.
What makes me lean more towards Google Messages is the ability to get messages on the web/browser. Was using it all the time on the Note 8.
Wanted to ask if anybody has switched back/forth between the two messaging apps, and if they have encountered any issues? I had switched from Google Messages back to Samsung's message app on the Note 8, and my messages were being sent to the wrong person. That's not a good situation to be in. I ended up switching back because of that.
Also, I noticed there is an updated apk for Samsung messages. My S10+ is using v 10.0.10.111. Looks like they are up to v 10.0.20.37. Anybody install that apk? Any good/bad things in there?
TIA
Coming from an S7 edge i was forced off Google Messages due to the handling of group messages. Sometimes it would work but other times texts that belonged in a group would come in separately. I would then have to click to download the text before it popped back into the group. Other times those texts would show up as expired (even though i just received them) and i would never see what it was. Needless to say i couldn't use it anymore so i ended up using Samsung Messages which never has that issue. Now that i'm on S10+ i'm tempted to try Google Messages again in hopes that it works the way is should as i do prefer it over Samsung Messages just due to the look and of course the web messages.
I've been flip-flopping between: Textra, Google Messages, and Samsung messages.......I've decided to stick with Google Messages.
The Samsung app, feels dated.... I do like the notifications I get when sending to other (At&t) users using the Samsung messaging app (tells when read, or they're replying...ect...), but I only have 1 person out of my 200+ contacts that it's worked on (my 17yr old son, who hates the Samsung messaging app). Plus, it just feels dated. No swipe to delete and long messages require you to "read more".
Textra is the lightest of the bunch, and I've been using for the past 4 or 5 years..... It's also the most customizable. But, Google has upped their game on the last release and incremental updates. It just feels "native" to the phone now. I also like the fact when you receive a PIN number, it recognizes this and copies just the PIN for you.
Google Messages gets my vote
BTW: No issues with group messages for me on the Google Message app
I like the Google messages app very much, but since the update to OneUI I have been using the Samsung version as it's good enough and themes the same way as the other Samsung stock apps, which I like a lot.
I prefer Truecaller messages because of its spam feature..
I love Google messages over Samsung. It worked perfect when i was with ATT. Now that i'm with Verizon I've had issues with google messages. They would come through late or not come at all. Switching to Samsung messages seemed to clear this issue up, as far as i know. No one has said they texted me and i didn't reply. Although that doesn't mean its working correctly, i may not have been aware of missing texts.. Anyone else had any issues with Verizon? i read somewhere a while back that Verizon text messages only worked right when using Verizon messages app. Not sure why that is... Or if it's true. If anyone can shed any light on whether there is, or is not an issue with Verizon messaging if not using Verizon app.

Been using Google Messages for last like 2 years and never seem to have had any problems on Verizon besides the typical sending and receiving from an iPhone of videos etc
Textra every day of the week!
One more benefit of using Google messages is you can enable chat feature now.

Not in the United States. At least not yet.
It is live for 2 of my phones now
Using Google messages, but really like the ability to pin conversations to the top in Samsung app.
Sent feature request to Google..lol
I prefer Android Messages over the stock one.
I love google messages but 2 minor things why I don’t use it on my s10 .
1. Wish google messages had schedule send sms feature . I use that quite a bit . No where in google messenger can I find this option .
2. The notification doesn’t have a pop up view bubble, quick read notification come on the top of the screen when I receive text . Couldn’t find a way to get google messages to do that like stock app notification does .
If there is a fix for both I’d switch back to google messages.

I prefer Samsung over Google mainly because of the ability to pin conversation and star message, the pop up bubble.
If Samsung had scheduler that would be awesome.
There's Qsms which is quite good but I don't want additional apps installed when Samsung messages works atm .
I use Samsung messages at the moment. But the one thing I really miss from Google messages is swipe to archive conversations...I liked to be able to hide conversations I don't use a lot without having to delete them.

You can enable the bubble for Google Messenges notifications in Advanced Settings/Smart Pop-up View.
