Hi!
I've tried to replace the standard galaxy s8 boot splash screen with a custom one. In the previous models, the image was stored in /dev/block/sda4. Now it's in /dev/block/sda5. I've been able to successfully replace the image, but it turns out there are some strange restrictions (see the attachment). It seems as if the images's top left corner was placed in a fixed position. When I uploaded a 2960x1440 image, it was mostly off screen.
Do you have any idea how to make it work with fullscreen images?
I also attached a flashable zip, if you want to experiment. Just replace the logo.jpg file in the bin folder. Don't use images created by gimp, they may not work. Resave the image with paint and it should be fine.
Thanks for any help.
Edit:
Forgot to say, if you brick your device, reflash bootloader via odin.
Just seen your tag for me. Ill gladly look into it but I've got the plus model presently. I've made some edits on the edge no problem from a stock splash screen. Can you walk me through on how to get and extract Any and all files needed for my variant?

I know for the edge you needed the tar, meta-inf and the logo to flash and edit splash. Idk if its the same for this as well.
can i use this on s8+

Right now there is no flashable image of the stock OS. Google pulled it from their site. But if you can't use USB, you can still use a computer to unzip the image into partitions, then use terminal and `flash_image` to flash each partition. (When I tried using flash_image, it didn't work, so be cautious. If you're rooted you can also use `dd` to flash images, but a typo could brick your phone so don't.)
I bet the easiest thing for you to do is to create individual flashable images for each partition, then boot into CWM and flash each (recovery last, obviously). But I don't know how. In any case, you'll need to wait until Google puts a new mako image on their site: https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images

Actually, depending on how desperate you are, I (or anybody else) could help you. I have a stock recovery installed right now (JOP40D) and I could pull the image with "dd". That won't be a flashable .zip, but you should be able to flash it from within the ROM. I could also get you a copy of my /system partition--there's nothing personal or private in there
If you have a .img, you could pack it into a flashable .zip and download it via dropbox.
Unless you have no access at all to a computer. In that case, you'll just need to wait for Google to release the next version of the image.

I would love some help on packing into a flashable .zip. I found the images here, http://www.randomphantasmagoria.com/firmware/nexus-4/occam/ but I can't do anything with them without fastboot.
I found one guide for creating the flashable zip here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1721680
And a better one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1949367
In principle, I think you could use your phone to do these, but it would be hard. The hardest step would be extracting individual files from .img files, and I don't know whether you can do that with your phone--it depends on the kernel and the "mount" utility--you would need to mount the .img files as a filesystem and extract from them. Obviously you should avoid flashing /data to ensure that you can keep /sdcard and your CWM backup. And flashing stock recovery should be your last step. In fact, don't flash your stock recovery. Flash the Nexus image version C, then reboot and let the image automatically reflash the recovery. This is safest. But if this step messes up, you will absolutely need to use a computer to fix it.
Actually, there's a far easier way. Somebody could create a CWM backup for you--a backup of version JOP40C. You download it to /data/media/clockworkmod/backups, then use CWM to recover it (use advanced options to recovery ONLY the /system partition (maybe others?), then clear the cache and dalvik cache). Then you OTA upgrade to JOP40D. This will involve downloading a flashable .zip (here). The key is that this will remove root and CWM when you next reboot! If it doesn't remove root, I think you can probably do that yourself.
The thing you can't do without a computer: lock your bootloader. Is using somebody else's computer really out of the question? I think "adb" and "fastboot" work without the rest of the Android SDK, so you could just download them and get to a computer just for the very final step of re-locking the bootloader.
I documented the process I went through to get it back to stock here for future reference:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=37064957&postcount=10
You can lock your bootloader without a computer using the BootUnlocker app
after flashing the vendor image, i flashed the latest twrp. tried to reboot but unable to go into recovery and stuck in a black screen. Phone boots as normal but lost root. Phone can still be detected by pc, but when i go into bootloader it cant be detected and i flash back stock image. Any help will be appreciated.
Not entirely sure. I would start from scratch and follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/general/guides-how-to-guides-beginners-t3206928. I would jump to section 11 and go from there. I'm currently waiting for my cache to build after flashing latest stock image from google (MHC1). I followed section 9. Hopefully all goes well. I came from MMB29Q.

well everything went as expected for me. That guide has never let me down. If you're using a toolkit to update I would abandon it. That guide is my bible when it comes to anything regarding modifying the 6p. I have seen multiple threads about TWRP not "sticking" or stuck at boot etc, etc. In order for you obtain root again you're going to need to flash TWRP, boot into it, and flash SU 2.68. There is a test version of TWRP 3.0 floating around that I used with no issues. I'll try to find the link and post it here. If not, maybe another user can post it if they have it handy.
Here
Thanks dude!
thx dude gonna give it a shot

This is the stitch boot logo. This is I repeat this is not a flashable zip.
Unzip and fastboot the logo.bin through fastboot.
Code:
fastboot flash logo logo.bin
fastboot reboot
Thanks. But I need the whole stitich boot animation
This is the one am talking about.
I found some but they are for low res screens.

Deletion of original due to corruption
EDIT ----- Caution this upload may have been corrupted, use the one two posts on (#8)
This is the one I was looking for. But it fails in twrp wile flashing.

@felixtaf ... Can't understand that because I installed it on my A2017U before posting. Which leads me to say that when I uploaded it to XDA it came up with a strange comment in red in the post (you've probably seen it -- Attachment 4136033) which I have never seen before. I can only suggest that the upload was corrupted so I have added another to this post.
Without wishing to teach you how to suck eggs can I just state the following ..... After downloading, transfer it to your ext sd card, in TWRP go to "Install" and chose the file, let TWRP do it's thing. I don't suggest you don't know what you are doing it's just so strange that it doesn't work.
Yes, this works fine. Thanks
Jus flashed it via twrp and all fine ...
The one I posted before was not a TWRP flashable file, you need to place it in system/media and replace the bootanimation.zip file there (and set the 0644 permission)
Hey guys,
Here i present you the google boot logo. just flash with twrp and enjoy..
Nice man... Works fine on my j7 pro
I did it and it worked fine on my Samsung A5 A520F (although it's just the first boot image you see for about 4 seconds). Then I thought, hey that logo file in the zip looks east to change! I'll change it to something different. I did that, re-flashed it and now my phone won't boot (will have to do restore Samsung Stock again).
Just a FYI. It works, but don't do what I did.

...If you do what I did or you want to restore the default boot logo again, open Odin again and reflash just the BL partition and it will boot up as normally.
I was trying to patch my tablet's boot.img so i could root it and put a better Android OS without the bloatware, and now my tablet is bricked, it gets to the "ONN, powered by Android" logo and goes blank, does anyone have the stock firmware for it?

BTW, I had the same issue when trying to use Magisk Manager to patch the boot image. I ended up installing TWRP (after restoring stock boot) and then using that to add Magisk from the ZIP.
