Hello
Just switched from symbian to android and now I really want to get some apps installed to my phone.
When I click the market app, I need to sign in with my gmail account.
But when I try this it gives me the message.
"Can't establish a reliable data connection to the server.
This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be provisioned for data services"
The part with temporary I don't believe and the SIM card part I know is wrong as I can surf the net, sync my exchange company mail etc.
I have tried with WIFI also, but same message coming.
Living in Norway, using Netcom as carrier.
Does anybody have any clue on how I can get past this and log into market?
Best regards
TommyE
Remove the sim. Wifi should still work. Tested here fine, when I had a Hero. This will not be a data provisioning issue.
I can also confirm this. I didn't initially have a Google account, and when I tried to create one via the handset I got the data provisioning error. I master reset the phone, created a Google account online with my PC, and set the Google login details in the initial setup of the phone. After this I had no problems.
Good luck.
ditto, I didn't set up android account when I went through initial setup, and it wouldn't work later. Had to factory reset and do it during initial setup (it was happy enough using my wifi for this)
same problem on HTC Magic =(
I have HTC Magic, i purchased it several days ago and it was working just fine. Then i found out that i can't replace the google account from previous owner and decided to hard-reset.
After that I'm getting this (I'm on T-mobile USA and I have just internet for 5.99):
"This could be a temporary problem or your sim card may not be provisioned for data services, if it continues, call customer care"
Called customer care, they said it won't work without 24.99 data plan, but it WAS working before! I tried changing APN from epc.tmobile.com to wap.voicestream.com but it didn't help =(
Phone is unlocked. Without signin in to google I can't even use phone features.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I am having this issue now. I bought my Hero last week and set it up with my China Mobile SIM card. Then I decided to switch to China Unicom because they offer WCDMA 3G service. I am able to connect to CU data just fine but none of my Google apps will function. I can check gmail through the browser but not the internal application. This happens on Wifi as well.
I have done several factory resets with no luck. Any ideas?
after more than 12 hours my problem just went away. i don't know why. my guess is google has a mechanism in place to lock out accounts from more than one source or something. it's strange that i never had the problem with my G1 as often as i changed ROMs and when I changed SIM cards with it.

I've been having issues with getting signed into Google here in China as well. I had also just come back from vacation where I was using a different carrier.
I had been unsuccessful in getting a connection to the Google servers for the last 12+ hours. I have reflashed my ROM (actually three different ones) and reformated my SD card, all with no luck.
Just got to the office and connected successfully right away over our VPN wireless router, however I'm still having trouble getting Gmail to load all of my conevrsations.
So, my guess is the usual iffy Chinese connection.

it's very strange. I never had an issue with my G1 but hero has all kinds of connection issues whether on WiFi or 3G. I rarely get email notifications, this issue, and now I can't download ANYTHING from the market.
please help ! =[
someone please help i just bought a sony ericsson x10 mini pro yesterday and im not able to browse the net, use the market or anything without it saying
"This could be a temporary problem or your SIM card may not be
provisioned for data services"
what does this mean?, do i need a new sim card in order to use the functions on the x10 mini pro? if so what sim card and where do i buy it ?
I just activated with T-Mobile and now have a T-Mobile sim in my Nexus One, but I still don't see the top paid tab in the market... I can see paid applications, but I don't get the tab.
How do I fix this?
I want to buy some apps!
Are you connected to the market with 3G or Wifi, if wifi then it could be your sim isn't active in the system yet, if you just just did it sometimes it can take a few hours. Also, I'm sure you did, but you must sign in with your Google account when you start the phone, or go into settings>accounts because the Market uses Google Checkout

I'm connected via HSDPA, I can also make calls and text fine, my calls just aren't being routed to my Nexus yet. When I started up the phone at the store, it made me sign back into my Google account.
Does it just take time? I don't see why it should since I'm running on T-Mobile 100%.
So 100GB free for two years on Google, great, thanks!! They did similar with Dropbox back when I got my Jewel. Ideal purpose here is photos of my kids getting backed up, I don't create nearly that many spreadsheets to warrant that kind of storage.
Photos WILL NOT back up photos via wi-fi, the Assistant in the app just says "Waiting for Wi-Fi", well the wait is over, you've been connected to wi-fi almost constantly for a week now. As soon as you flip the switch to use mobile data, they back up fine, over mobile data. I'm unlimited, so that's not a huge issue, just seems like a power drain to me.
I've done all the toggling on and off, uninstalled app (updates to system app only, not rooted yet so still on stock), cleared data/cache, blah blah blah. Seems like the app isn't allowed to see the Wi-Fi state or something. I've Googled the issue and I don't seem to be the only one facing it. Only thing I haven't tried is removing my Google account and re-adding it, but someone else on another forum states to have tried it to no avail.
Has anyone here on this forum of geniuses seen this and figured it out?????
thanks!!!
I have had the exact same issue. I had to set it to allow it to use wireless network and then turn that back off. It's a crap work around I know, but at least they get backed up.

that's kind of where i'm at. mobile data is the only option. just don't know if it's an app thing or something with sense. haven't tried a factory reset yet, but i give myself probably another three or four days before i finally break down and unlock so i guess i'll find out then if that fixes it.
Mine still went over wifi. I just had to switch it to allow over wireless.

how could you tell?
Could be wrong but think he is saying he set to wireless network then back to Wi-Fi and then sync. I had same problem so just left mine on both Wi-Fi and wireless network. Would rather just Wi-Fi but don't want to lose photos
Sent from my 2PS64 using Tapatalk
I thought that might be a possibility, but none of the above have worked for me. Mobile data only
I have the same problem. There were a few times early on that I got it to work on Wi-Fi by toggling and clearing stuff in various combinations, but never consistently, so I just ended up saying screw it and using mobile data.
I remember that I had the same issue on a stock Android ROM on my M8 at one point though, so I don't think it's a sense issue.
Sent from my HTC 10
Same issue here. I ended up just letting it go over mobile data (especially since I have unlimited data with Sprint)
Was on vacation so I couldn't reply.
I have zero cell coverage at home so data cannot cross the cell network. I had issues with it not uploading over wifi. I set it to use cellular data and photos started backing up. Obviously it's only over WiFi because I don't have cell coverage at home. Turn off the cellular data backup setting and it stops uploading on WiFi again.
same trouble with a HTC 10 Port on my HTC m9
I had the exact same issue, and found the fix on reddit.
"Go to Settings, go to Data Usage, then open the menu and go to Network Restrictions. Tap the WiFi you're connected to so it is a metered network, and turn it back off. Should correct everything."
For whatever reason, toggling that setting makes Photos start backing up over WiFi again.

This issue goes beyond just Google Photos. I have noticed that it is global so anything that is set to download over WiFi only won't ever download. This includes automatic updates in the Play Store and Spotify downloads. There has to be a fix coming for this soon from HTC. I wonder if they are even aware of this bug...
just want to let you know guys this is no HTC related, I have Xiaomi Mi4c with CM13.1 facing exactly same problem in Flickr and Google Photos app, only solution is mentioned in this thread enable and disable your wifi network as metered.
EDIT: I am using AFWall+ and both Flickr and Google Photos had same issue and were restricted by firewall only to access Wifi, I am curious if it's gonna help if I will allow them to use mobile data and restrict only within the app.
I can confirm that here, definitely something up with the app. Did the meter toggle fix, disabled mobile data, snapped a photo, watched it back up over wifi. Then for fun I went into backup settings and turned off backup over cellular data and snapped another photo, waiting for wifi.
Hay guys i was having the same issue of not being able to upload my photos on google photos app, but i don't know when it started up and what caused it to do so, but i have digged up a solution from googlephotos help page, a guy named Gaieus solved this problem and shared his steps there. I have just copy pasted them here ,
I had the same issue. I finally found what to do and it seems to work for me now (hopefully for others, too):
Go to your settings > data usage
Tap on the three dot-menu icon at the top right
Select mobile hotspots
Uncheck your own (or any constant, reliable connection you often use) so that it is not marked with green as a mobile hotspot
It seems that the phone is not using mobile hotspots to do the background uploading (probably because they are often unreliable and you may not stay in the range for long enough - and as has been said, the pho app cannot do resuming of uploads already started when you get to a wifi range again)
So press thanks button if i helped you guys. Thanks for visiting XDA
I had the same issue for the long time and I just now managed to fix it.
Go to the Settings and fully FORGET your WiFi connection. Reconnect by entering again your password.
That did it for me. After half a year of inactivity, Playstore immediately started updating my apps and Photos started backing up over 430 images that were in the que.
Switching to mobile data also fixed "waiting for WiFi" holdup inside Photos app, but since I am on 500MB/month data plan, I never relied on that.
Did you guys have an SD card formatted as internal? I think the issue stems from that. I had the same issue a while back with more than one app like google photos, google play music (for podcast downloads), etc... basically anything that waited for Wifi to do anything.
I backed up and redid everything without formatting the card as internal and haven't had those issues since.
I've heard formatting as internal can cause other odd problems too.
waiting wifi to auto backup google photo
Solution
1. switch on to airplane mode
1.1 activate wifi
2. open google photo aps
3. open setting
4. open backup & sync
5. activate cellular data backup
now you can auto back up your photo or video with WIFI
after backup deactivate Cellular data backup
2nd option
1. deactivate mobile data
2. open google photo aps
3. open setting
4. open backup & sync
5. activate cellular data backup
now you can auto back up your photo or video with WIFI
after backup deactivate Cellular data backup

Once I uninstalled all the Google Photo updates, it started working for me. The only Settings option I had available in the latest version was "About". After removing the updates, all the Settings items returned and so did the ability to sync.
Not sure what is going on. I cannot download over LTE from the playstore. Just says downloading. Wi-Fi works fine..
I can still browse the web and check email, just not download apps.
I have cleared the cache and data for the playstore app, no luck.
Any ideas?
TMO here

can you browse to the playstore via web browser on the phone? Wonder what happens if you install that way.?
double check play store settings. It may be set to WiFi only.
Checked that... Still no luck... Just says downloading.. as soon as I switch to WiFi it works fine...
When I try to use the play store via the web on the phone it always launches the play store app.. if I use my laptop and install an app it works fine via the play store.. only when using 4g or lte..
Really annoying...

that's weird. I'd like to know if anyone else if having this issue... I haven't even received shipping yet, so I have no idea.
I am not having this issue. I can turn off Wi-Fi and download over Verizon's LTE from the Play Store app with no problem. I have my Preferred network type set to Global if that helps.
I had another thought, check your APN settings for TMO.
http://apn-settings.com/t-mobile-apn-for-android/
Checked the apn. Finally spoke with tmo. They said it is a play store issue. Google updated on August 15 and broke compatibility with certain phones. Checked my wife Galaxy S7 and her play store won't download offer lte either. Only wifi..
Tmo said Google it s aware and hoping to push a play store update soon. The solution was to use wifi for now..
I've had this issue randomly with every Android I've ever owned. Sometimes removing your Google account and re-adding it helps. But this isn't a new issue and most likely not an issue with the phone. That is why some on here have said it has not been a problem. This is a common issue with any new device you get.
So I was rooting my Google store bought pixel 4 and missed a step. Needless to say I had to sideload a full ota to recover it. But I'm pretty sure I accidentally loaded the verzion version. I got all the verizon apps that showed up when I rebooted the phone. I went back and wiped everything in recovery mode and tried sideloading QD1A.190821.007.A3 and it keeps erroring out. This is the firmware that Im 90% sure what was on my phone. Is there a way to get back to factory google store firmware or am I screwed now? I am on a verizon sim but phone was bought on launch day from the google store. Its also noted that I am currently on QD1A.190821.014 firmware. This doesn't appear to be the verizon firmware.
The Verizon apps appear not based on which ROM version you load, but instead based on whether you have a Verizon SIM in the phone during setup.
If you loaded the wrong ROM onto the phone, you may not be able to recover by sideloading an OTA. You should be able to recover by doing a complete reflash of the image you want (the image version, not the OTA version).
What error is it giving you?
I cant remember the exact error but it would error out about 45% through the flashing. I am currently running QD1A.190821.014 which appears to the google FI, T'Mobile firmware. I still have the ability to turn OEM Unlock on in my settings, so it appears I am ok. I just wish they had better wording on which firmwares for the unlocked ones form the google store and others.

Regarding loading the wrong one, I did the same thing because the December update had a discrepancy between the announcement and the download page about which rom applies to which phones. I switched back and forth between QQ1B.191205.011 and QQ1B.191205.012.A1 before they finally corrected it, but everything worked fine on both versions as far as I could tell.
About the Verizon apps, if you're on Verizon or one of its MVNOs, if it installs other stuff, you'll want to leave it. Don't confuse My Verizon and My Verizon Services. My Verizon can be uninstalled, but if you mess with My Verizon Services, you'll end up losing things like wifi calling.

That's not true. You can go to all apps and show system. MVS can't be deleted without root but you can disable it with no adverse effects. They can't get into your device to see what you have installed and when you installed it, but who wants to give them that info anyway?

As of Android 8, disabling My Verizon Services doesn't permit wifi calling because it depended on that application for that functionality. It's hard to remember what else was troublesome, but I thought there was something else which didn't function once it was disabled.
I don't have wifi calling anymore on Visible, and I never used Android 9 because of the wifi scan throttling mess anyway.
Would you mind checking that your wifi calling works on your pixel 4, disabling My Verizon Services, rebooting, switching on airplane mode, then enabling wifi only, and then try making a phone call? I'm interested to know if that behavior has changed. Thanks!
Here's some more information. It certainly seems true for others as well:
https://community.verizonwireless.c...ng-since-Android-8-update/td-p/1042025/page/2
And many other XDA threads correlating the two:
https://www.google.com/search?q=sit...69i57j69i58.6651j1j7&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Maybe things have changed in Android 9 or 10, but please test it out if you haven't already!
EDIT:
It looks like you tested it out in another XDA thread already where others lost wifi calling when it was disabled, but you said you were still able to make wifi calls. It's strange that you're the only one who can disable My Verizon Services and make wifi calls, but others can't. Very strange.

My wife has a Verizon device Pixel 3 locked bl and I have a Pixel 4 and they both have MVS disabled and both can call on wifi. I just tested again to make sure. Really, I'm the only one? Gotta love that. I hate that they can get into my device without my knowing and see what and when I installed stuff.
