if i wanted to go canada, and turn off my reception, but keep my wifi on for google voice texts and im's is there a way to do this?
i know that the myfaves app sends random message back to t-mobile and that will charge me money,
so i guess im asking is there an airplane mode with wifi enabled?
Was newly posted yesterday on the market. And I think the dev announced it here as well. I cant check now, but I think you should find it if you search for 'airplane'.

the app works.. but the calling not.. says invalid sim at the app. so cant do anything.
can you call via wifi?
but wth do you want to call via wifi?
it costs money too. and extra connection.
why will you use wifi when you can call 24/7 with your sim all day ?

wifi calling costs many though?
i read on that app it just costs as much as cellulair data.
so why in earth will people use wifi calling? they can just call without wifi. its called a PLAN
I get invalid sim as well I am on vodafone and not |T-Mobile..
Maybe you could change it to work on Vodafone?
i have tmobile, maybe thats why? might have to do with the APN or something
yay this is good but the thing I see is that if you are calling it may be going to the t-mobile servers ofc if thats the case only t-mobile sims may be able to get unless we edit the apk or spoof our sim but then also im guessing the wifi calling costs so not sure how this would work xD nice though
totally non sense. how can someone call using wifi or whatever internet source you may have to any cellular or telephone number untill you don't have some service provider etc... if this wifi calling is working over the internet, what application is it using?
seems totally fake or irrelavent
This apps works because i put the phone in airplain mode and use wifi only.
If you guys having problem then maybe it your phone. But, my phone is working, be glad that you have wifi calling.
This an oct 22,2008 phone not even the iphone 3g has this feature.

quite right, you think we can get a workaround?
I dont know im going to buy a new phone because i miss adobe flash content so much. I know this is out of topic but i miss my original droid before it got messed up.
G1 is nice when it was a backup phone in 2010. My main phone in 2008/2009 most of the time, until i sold my cliq. But, now i just want a phone with higher specs.
I try playing gameloft games HD/3D games that isnt working because of processor we have.
This developer now a days is coding their apps to make it work with 3.5 inches and beyond, with higher frame,Power vr ship specs.
I love my g1, but im going to buy either g2 or hd 7.
I think i speak for everyone having an phone for to long loses it power in long run.
And, wifi calling on this app only work with T-mobile sim card and wifi of course.
There is a wifi app.
it was ripped off the G2 and ported to the vibrant, so it is possible.
however its not that good.
it was taken out of most roms on the vibrant because of its buggyness/uslessness.
it drains battery pretty bad even when not running.
it uses minutes even when calling through wifi (the only purpose of the app is to get clear signal in places where there is none for tmobile customers and not to save on minutes)
Its just kinda buggy overall.
hopefully they'll release a cleaner app in the future, but for now its pointless if you get decent signal at home.
Honestly, this apps work fine to me. Im just disappointed that the developer now a days isnt supporting older device by coding the apps to higher specs phone.
Wanted to get an android phone with wifi calling capability for a friend who is currently in Iraq. My budget will not allow me to a buy a g2/mt4g, and a g1 seems like the cheapest option so this is where I began looking. So if I added an extra line on my family plan, grabbed a g1, rooted and installed this app would my friend be able to make calls as long as he has a wifi connection? Can anyone confirm this works without any access to the tmobile network?

I'm not sure about on the g1, but on other phones it works, but it still uses t-mobile minutes.
so you can be away from the t-mobile network, but you still need to have a t-mobile plan and minutes.
its basicaly for those who have horrible signal at home, but do have a wifi connection.
Does anyone know of any specific Android build than enables me to make phone calls through wi-fi without using an app like skype. Just regular old T-Mobile wi-fi calling.

All builds with tytung r10 kernel support T-Mous wifi calling.
I just installed NexusHD2-Gingerbread V2.7 [GRJ22/Android2.3.4][Kernel:tytung_r10]
last night and it still wouldn't let me dial out through wi-fi. I don't want skype because t-mobile offers it as a free service. I just live in an area where T-Mobile doesn't have coverage and want to use wi-fi as a way to make my normal phone calls. I want to call nationally and not pay additional or get a different number for an app like skype or some of the others. That one had tytung r10 but still wouldn't work. Any other ideas?
SO ANYONE?

The only one working on T-Mobile wifi calling is tytung without being a T-Mobile user himself.
I would suggest start reading this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1038784
All ROMs with tytung r10 kernel have enabled the wifi calling function.
I am not a T-Mobile user and i don't know what is needed for wifi calling to work but i suspect you need an app to enable that function.
Check the picture of the 1st post of the link i provided.
I appreciate it. I checked it out. I don't think it is fully functional yet but it seems like some good people are on it. It actually normally doesn't use an app. Once wi-fi is connected it just routes your calls through the router using a service called UMA.
I kind of Get A Little bit
GrooveIP does not work for me on N 4.
Did anyone manage to make it work?
It works fine on my other devices w/same username/password.
could you elaborate a bit?
in what way does it not work?
it works just fine for me. i'm running the latest pa (3.65 from 7/10) and the latest franco nightly (r163).
Works fine for me...even used it 2weeks ago while in Canada.
Works fine for me. Better call quality then cellular.
I use it for the most part without issue. If you are trying to use it over you network and not wifi you net to go into the settings and check 3G/4G calling.

I actually had trouble with it and didn't have time to troubleshoot yet. Check out GV Phone. Worked for the couple of test calls that I did.

I've had some troubles with GrooveIP this past month and a half. It works sometimes when I try, but receiving calls is very hit-and-miss. The app doesn't maintain connection to Google Voice very well. I tried using it as my main source of voice, but it hasn't worked well for me so I have to switch back to using cell minutes. It's weird; when it acts up, the app thinks it's connected to Voice, but it definitely isn't. Incoming calls hit Google Voice, but don't ring my phone. Outgoing calls don't even get to Google Voice, the app just sits at "Dialing..." and doesn't do anything. I've posted in a few threads on these forums and on their Play store page so hopefully they figure out what's wrong.
GrooveIP works well
I am on stock ROM and also tried it with CM 10.1
I have absolutely no issues. Used it in Canada as well as Hong Kong. Had it on N4 from day one. Previously used it on Atrix. HTC One S without any issues as well.

If you have Google Voice set for forwarding your Google Voice number to your phone, that is most likely the reason you are not receiving incoming calls to GrooveIP. Turn the forwarding off and then recheck the behavior.

I have Google Voice only forwarding to Google Chat, which I believe is what GrooveIP uses (correct me if I'm wrong). I've ticked almost every option in GrooveIP, allowed it to use all wakelocks and everything. It just sometimes disconnects from the servers and refuses to reconnect automatically because it thinks that it is still connected when it isn't. I even have it reconnect to the servers every 5 minutes, still nothing. I have to manually go in and refresh the connect (by re-logging into Google Voice through GrooveIP)

Hmmm... not seeing that here, of course I only pretty much use it on wi-fi. Are you using it on cell data when you see this behavior?
I only had my s7 edge for about a week but my HD voice doesn't work at all oddly.
My s5 it replaced worked fine. The people I talk to can call others and HD shows but me it doesn't nor does mine.
I just not sure if that big update broke it maybe or something else so wanted to see if others are working?
I don't have a sprint store near I can go play with them at :/

Talking Sprint to Sprint. So your S7 Edge running latest update, the HD is working on?
Do you know what model phones you've talked to on the other end?
I'm calling someone with an LG G5. They can call someone else with an LG G5 and it works but talking to me it doesn't.
Not sure if it's some device compatibility issue (which would be new), my phone, my account or what.
My S5 never had issues so trying to figure out what the deal is.
I even traveled to a different part of town to get on another tower to test, still no joy on S7 Edge
Amazes me that all the S7 owners and no one could check this :/
I bet if this was about root people would be all over it lol.
That said, solved the problem.
It is related to WiFi calling. Turning it off alone isn't enough to enable HD (despite on older phones just turning off WiFi calling it worked fine.).
On this phone you have to actually turn it on and go in and "deactivate" it which also unprovisions the account. After that HD started working again.
I personally consider this a SW bug but who knows. I also think it's dumb they can't do HD while on a wifi call. It has tons more BW available yet you can't do an better codec?? Every other provider only gives you HD when you doing VOIP but sprint takes it away lol.
This may be old news too, but Google Voice cannot be activated either for HD voice to work. That said, I haven't had it work for me yet either on the S7 Edge, and I don't have Google Voice anymore.

I still can't get HD Voice calls to initiate unless I am using Wi-Fi calling. Anyone else having this issue?
Now that you mention it, my HD voice hasn't been working either. I did deactivate it, I didn't really use it anyway and did a radio reset. Will have to test again see if it works. I haven't tried a call since deactivation of it yet
In this context (Sprint) what's the difference between HD calling & WiFi calling? I'd naively assumed they were one and the same...
Sent from my SM-G935P using XDA-Developers mobile app
HD voice is a higher quality call. It sounds much better and filters out background noise. WiFi calling is a way for your phone to use your wifi network to make phone calls. WiFi calling simply replaces the network with wifi and can be used for standard calls or HD voice calls.
My problem is that hd voice calls never seem to work unless I'm on wifi calling.
Me too en4cer, that's why I thought they were the same thing... The "HD" icon only shows up when Wifi calling is turned on. In what other situations *should* it show up? Sprint to Sprint calls over mobile network? Other carriers? Depending on the other party's phone & coverage at the time of the call?

Yes, it *should work when making Sprint to Sprint calls and both callers are in LTE coverage. It's not a WiFi feature, it's a Sprint network feature that also works on WiFi calling. I have not been able to get a single call to go to HD VOICE while on the LTE network. Frustrating!
This is so dumb
Sprint has issues provisioning the S7, so much like the iPhone, if you enable Wifi Calling, You can not currently use HD Calling. This also means you can not use Push To Talk.
My HD Voice has been working fine between to other Sprint callers that support it. I disabled wi-fi calling service, I don't really use it anyway. Also LTE coverage doesn't matter, none of Sprint's calls are routed over LTE yet, even HD voice uses CDMA network.
