Hello again. I decided to buy 2 sprint branded phones. One came sim unlocked. I used the NV method on the other. On both I can place calls, but data says disconnected. The APN's were downloaded straight from the provider (att mexico). And I compared the apn setting with a working M8 with the same sim.
I have tried full reset, and changing prefered network type in *#*#info#*#* menu. All it does is say disconnected. Am I missing something?
Update: got it working by flashing a custom rom. I used viper (selecting unlocked version on carrier select screen)

OK, So I am not sure exactly what I did, but I was running DFT_Android ROM without any issues but wanted to try the NexusHD2-Gingerbread ROM. After flashing (successful) I wasn’t able to get on to my cellular network, wireless LAN, or even see the device through Windows (Aside from USB Mass Storage). So I decided to flash back to DFT_Android…
Well now I can search for network operators and I see mine (Bell) but I can’t connect to it. If I try to set up and APN it asks me to choose an operator, Vodafone or Vodafone Business.
What the heck is going on? Did the ROM write to my SIM?
Where do I go from here? How do I get back on my carriers network?
Here are the current software details:
HTC HD2 Telstra
Baseband: 15.42.50.09u_2.14.50.04
So I swapped out the sim card with another working sim from another account and it worked right away... So my question is... Is it possible the sim became carrier locked to another carrier? Is that possible?
If I put my original sim back in I get the same message...
Your original SIM is probably just bad. I would request a new one from Bell.
I am really new to the world of ROOTING & FLASHING and have already bricked one device. I have followed a lot of information provided by the gurus on here but am at a standstill with my new device as I cannot afford to brick a second one due to my lack of knowledge when it comes to this stuff.
I do not wish to root my device at this time but did read the post talking about "regional" lock. It seems this is only relevant if people unlock their device through the rooting method. Since my device is from WIND Mobile (unactivated) and I purchased an unlock code from cellunlocker.net, I assume I can input my Telus SIM and I would not have to worry about a regional lock? As I understand, the purchased unlock code would supersede the regional lock correct?
As for Telus... When I unlock my WIND device, I assume it will be like my original where Telus voice worked but data was limited with 3G. This was due to the radio band for LTE being crippled in the device. I was told without rooting, I could still use the device with LTE but would have to FLASH the LTE modem through the ODIN software. When I look at the link which provides "flashable" modems, there is nothing there for my specific model.
AllGamer posted a modem (.bin) file for the Puerto Rico modem which supports LTE but confirmed with me this is not a file which can be flashed through ODIN and has to be packaged (or something to this affect). This is all too new to me and so if anyone could provide the steps to FLASH a compatible LTE modem onto my device without rooting so I have LTE support enabled, this would be great!
Thank you!
Issue is resolved. Currently, you cannot just flash the modem and must root and install a custom ROM supporting LTE. Once this device has been out long enough, the possibilities of modification will be greater but for now, my device from WIND works with Telus and has LTE data.
First, Telus, Rogers, Bell, Wind....all these carrier carry the same model of Note3 and running the same ROM
all you have to do is pull out your Wind sim card and do a factory reset. Then put in your Telus Sim card.
Phone will find Telus CSC setting and set it up as Telus phone.
As long your phone is sim unlock with Wind Mobile, any Canadian carrier should be working with your phone
About LTE, maybe there just don't have any LTE signal in the area, or your LTE setting has been turn off.
All you need to do is go into setting check under network and see if the phone is running GSM/CDMA/LTE or GSM/CDMA only, just switch between 2 and you will get your LTE with Telus LTE sim.
You don't have to worry about region code once your purchase unlocked online. region lock only apply when the phone never activate with local sim card and trying to activate with sim card from other countries. Just put in your Telus SIM and setting up the phone. Wind has this phone becuz it support AWS network, it doesn't mean the phone come with different modem!
Since you are not looking to root your phone or anything....there really no need for any flashing!

You are only partially right with your response. Look at my other threads with how to get things functional. First, the phone is the same model for each Canadian carrier but as per the agreements between the carriers and Samsung, specific bands have been crippled. I unlocked my Note 3 so yes, the Telus SIM will be recognized upon a factory reset and will pick up the correct APN settings but since the LTE modem has been crippled, the device is great for voice but has sloooooow 3G data.
In order to get the device working with LTE, you must flash an LTE capable modem onto the device. Since this device is new on the market, no modem (.bin) file has been made flashable. At this point, the only option is to root your phone. Even when rooting and installing the Telus firmware (ROM), this will still not enable LTE as there's a safeguard in the device. Once the phone has been rooted, you must go into the regional settings for the device and select the carrier setting for the ROM you just installed. This will format the device and reboot with your carrier setting thus enabling LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect) within your network settings menu. Only at this point, will you have true LTE capability otherwise, you're using a phone with hindered capabilities. Using Telus on 3G is like driving a Corvette with a Cavalier motor.

In the case, just download Telus ROM from samsungupdate and flash it with Odin3

LOL  I have already rooted, flashed the Telus ROM and enabled LTE on my device. It is a little more complicated than what you've suggested but yes, you are partially right. Even with the Telus ROM, you need to ensure you've enabled the radio/modem for LTE capability. Thanks for your suggestions!
I did the software unlock via the dial code & UMTS menu, I can make phone calls with a different carrier sim, but I cannot get the data to connect. I have been searching xda and google for months trying to get this to work. I have a Canadian Bell mobilty i337m. Stock rom (mdj) and its rooted. I have tried factory reset several times but it doesnt fix it. I also tried flashing back to stock with odin. Does anyone have any other ideas?
When I try a telus (or other provider) sim, it give me voice service only and in the about > status menu the mobile network state either says disconnected or connecting. I have the data toggle on also.
Those unlocks don't work that well with the Canadian variants. They're designed for the i337 not the i337m.
Have you made sure the apn is set up right for the carrier?
Maybe this will help
Code:

I will say the reason that cause the problem is that this is an ATT phone with At stock ROM. So it doesn't have the APN setting for other carries. You should set that by yourself.

Not true. I successfully unlocked my first S4 I337M on Bell following this tutorial. I sold that one because I was able to make a profit once I unlocked and flashed the AWS mod to make it compatible with WIND and Mobilicity.

Try reflashing the original 4.2.2 firmware from here and then immediately follow this tutorial before rooting (do not install any system updates!). Then you can root, install custom recovery, reset the flash count, etc.
All questions and help issues go in Q&A and Help section
Thread moved
Thanks

You did exactly what I am in the process of doing. I will try what you suggested now. Thanks!
Also, ive manually inputed apns for telus and eastlink and neither seem to work. I can always make voice calls, but the data will not connect.

oddly enough, when I put a telus sim in it and waited for a while (in hopes it would eventually connect to data) and the apn settings for telus were in the phone. I know I didnt put them there because the apn settings for koodo were also present along with a third apn that I cant remember.
For future reference, try not to double post. Just edit your current post.

It's actually not an odd thing to happen. Once an activated SIM is inserted and the phone is unlocked, the phone searches for the best APN settings from all compatible carrier bundles. Some phones do this more accurately than others. However, it may not do this well enough if a custom ROM is installed. I know this to be true because this happened with my older Galaxy S3 when I tried selling it to someone (it was a T-Mobile unlocked running CM 10.0 at the time). However, setting the APN manually (assuming all settings are correct and that nothing else is wrong with the phone) should resolve your issues.
If you're still having problems, I suggest doing these things:
1. Try going into your network operators and let the phone search for carriers nearby. Once the list shows up, tap on Telus and wait until that screen closes on its own.
2. If you can't get data going yet, try disabling it, re-enabling, and reboot.
3. If this still doesn't work, try going into the network mode screen and select GSM/LTE and reboot.
4. If it's still derping on you, then it must either be your SIM not connecting to Telus's data network, or your account has a data block. That's all I can really think of.
Good luck.

Ok, reflashed stock 4.2.2 (the first one) and manually entered TELUS apn settings from the telus website, got data to connect finally. As a note, there was a typo in the apn settings that it auto aquired for telus. Going to try a eastlink sim tomorrow and hopefully AWS is working.
Edit: all seems to work. thanks everyone!!
Hello everyone!
I've got my Sprint s4, unlocked it to use in Canada and flahed JFLTE-GPE. Since then i had no problems for half a year, but this autumnthe ROM got an update. It has lost all the personalisation and other stuff and moreover started rebooting randomly. I decided to switch to OCT-L, and the phone couldn't connect to the network. I tryed different settings and it either was written "Sprint" or "International" (at the network status). But also there was a setting at which it was rapidly changing from "Sprint" to my SIM card network. I flashed JFLTE-GPE back, but nothing changed except it didn't connect to my SIM card at all. I flashed OH1 modem (saw it somewhere on the forum) but it didnt give anything.
Help me anyone please!:crying:
EDIT: SOLVED... In Dual SIM settings, the Network mode was set to GSM only. I switched it to LTE/WCDMA/GSM mode and now I have LTE again. I guess GSM only was set by default?
My phone no longer accesses the T-Mobile LTE network, rather it only stays on EDGE after I flashed DrakenFX's B29 build bootstack and system files from the thread "[ROM/GUIDE] Full Updates / Back to Stock Files via TWRP (A2017U, A2017G, A2017)".
Strangely, the phone shows two T-Mobile default APNs, and I don't know why they are on there! I'm using an MVNO (Ultra Mobile, on the T-Mobile network). These T-mobile APNs can't be deleted as there is no option to delete APNs in the menus. I've tried all four APN settings offered by the Ultra Mobile tech support line, and they all give EDGE data. My LTE data was working fine before I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, and flashed B29. Everything functions perfectly besides the mobile data.
Any ideas? (XDA rules say I can't post in the development threads).
