ES file explorer - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Ok im not new to phones and or ROM's ... but my s8- is acting wacky. I can not move or copy files using ES ... O heck now its working. BUT when it isn't working it asks me to select my sc card and blah blah but it never shows up. Weird .....

You have to give ES write permission to the microSD card: selecting any folder on the microSD when asked should work.

It may not work if you disabled bloatware I don't know what is exactly we shouldnt disabl but problem exist.

Mixplorer is 500x better and free

Cut & Paste

ok ; this is probably a dumb question :
how do you cut and paste a file from your sdcard/bluetooth/blabla.mp3
to your phone/system/media/audio/notifications ?
i tried ASTRO File explore but i can't seem to copy/move it from the sdcard to the phone itself
ps: this is all new to me ( Android ) , its the first time we bought a Android phone .
I haven't used the Astra file menager, I use the EStrong one, but have you tried long pressing on the file to see if a menu pops up?
It does on Estrong
you can't copy files to your systemfolder because of the security on the phone.
You can try to create a folder ringtones on your sdcard, next you reboot the phone.
Then it should be reconized.
at some point you can, you need to root your phone and use "Root Explorer" and make "phone/system/media/audio/notifications" as R/W. then do what ever you like..
or you can make on sd card/media/audio/notifications and media/audio/ringtones
Don't mess with the internal storage too much.. that's the way Android wants it to be. Instead use a external storage card to store ringtones, music etc.

[Q] cannot move files (not app) from internal SD to external SD

After using google and forum search a while I am stuck with this problem.
on my i9000 I want to move files like jpg files from certain appfolders to my external sd card.
I tried to use different File explorers and tried to move for example a picture from the program folder of the app "multicam" on the internal SD card to a new cerated Folder on the external SD Card.
whenever I try to cut & paste it onto ext SD card, it sant be moved or just does not paste it... depending on which file explorer I use. I have SU rights for my file explorers and can't find a way to move the files.
Some files on the internal SD can be COPIED and PASTED onto the external and after that I have to delete the original Files from the internal SD. But why is CUT & Paste not possible?
is there something like protection oder chmod things, that has to be payed attention to ?
thanks for any hints what I do have to look for on the search function of xda-dev or google...
I have the exact same problem. Copy and paste works but Cut and paste does not.
I have both I9000 and Asus Transformer and in both of them this does not work. It's very frustrating when you have to frequently move files.
It happens to me too. I can't move, just copy and paste. For me is not such a bad thing, it keeps adding a "false" sense of security of having backups.
It works using root explorer.
Thx for the tip... I tried root explorer now and this works quite well. Now you can copy/cut + paste from any folder to each folder you like to. There are 2 settings available: r/o and r/w... read only and read write.

External SD card

Hey guys I am new just got the tablet yesterday. My question is how can I save things like kernels and things to my SD card? It saves yo internal storage and then from there I try n use astro file manager to move it to external from the mnt section but it lets my see the external card it just wont allow me paste it there I had to put SD in my Atrix and then do it and then have to out it back in the a500. Thank u I am rooted using the minimalist rom

I have same issue.
i Just re-bought my Iconia last night. I rooted this unit for the first time soon after (MinimalistRom). I see the same thing your seeing. Internal memory is seen as sdcard and my added MicroSD is read as external1. External2 I have to assume would be storage connected to usb connection. Yes i cant copy files over to microsd (external1) from internal (so called SDCard). I'm going to try giving permissions to that xternal1 mnt folder using es explorer like i read in other earlier topic. Ill try to post what i find out.
make sure your tab is rooted then either use es file explorer or root explorer and it will work just fine. I don't think astro can manage it.
I couldnt figure it out. Got to the point of instaling superuser, busybox, super manager and ghost commander. Got every thing, i guess, somewhat hooked up. But in super manager's file explorer, i could get it to chmod rwe on owner --- and other r-e. Group had everything checked rwe. I guess there is something else i'm missing here to change this directories permission. So I'm stumped at the moment and re-image with another rom to see if it correct the mounting of this microsd card external1. Sure would like to figure this out to have app manager send app2sd to my microsd class 10 card on external1.

That's why we need the DEVs to tear this script apart and make it works with custom roms

[Q] 4.4.2 microSD card problems (N9005 rooot)

Hi,
I opened a new thread because my problem seems different from this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2607215 as I experience the same microSD card problems but that thread's fix won't work.
Brand new, out of the box, N9005. Before using it I immediately rooted it and then I immediately flsahed 4.4.2 (polish) and then re-roooted. Root is confirmed as Titanium, ROM Manager etc all work.
Evrything is fine except the microSD card:
- Android OS can see the card, mount/unmount and format.
- File Expert PRO cannot even read the card.
- Astro File mngr can read (let me edit with editors) and save but cannot rename.
- Dropsync cannot download anything onto the card.
- Dropsync can download same files on internal memory.
- Can see, edit, save, rename, delete - everything ok - if I operate via PC w/ USB.
- Apps can see the content but cannot write on it.
- Apps which rely on microSD card (but not move to ExtSD) are greyed out and don't work.
I tried 3 cards, 8GB, 32GB (class 4) and this 64GB Sandisk (class 10).
All exibit the same problem.
I formatted all the cards with rapid format in PC.
The 64GB card I also did a full, 1 hour, format in PC.
I utried both NTFS and FAT in PC.
Help! Please!
Same problem here, i hope you found a solution for it

From the Note 2 thread. Unsure if this is exactly the same resolution as the above
External SD card mount point fix for kitkat roms
Im unrooted so I'm just having to wait for the 3rd party updates.
this is bull*
i don't want to root my phone in order to solve their problem .. JESUS!
it seems it's a Kikat problem, google also wants to f*ck us now.
http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/58592/using-an-external-sdcard-with-kitkat
Agree... For once, I left my phone unrooted (after owning Galaxy S, S2 and Note2), and now this... I can modify the external SD with the built in file explorer, but ES File Explorer, Solid Explorer, SMS Backup & Restore and Sygic have problems writing or modifying content on the SD.
As the builtin file manager CAN access the SD, I hope it can be solved by the app devs, however, I find it strange that it is still not fixed for a lot of apps (actually none I could find in my app list), and that this is not one of the top discussions here...
I already contacted some of the support teams of the apps, but some of them indicate they are working on a fix themselves, whereas others say it can not be fixed in 3rd party apps...
I have the Sprint Note 3 running 4.4.2, and could access the SdCard from Titanium Backup. I used this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2607215 from above. I downloaded the platform.xml and used root explorer to place it in the right folder, set permission and rebooted. It worked perfectly and now I can run Titanium Backup and save it on the ExtSdCard.
Thanks
its the new kitkat ext. sdcard rules.. !
now developers have to update their apps to work with the new rules..
ES file explorer is updated,, it does work to some extent..
btw,, everythings ok with the Samsung's own file manager..

File 0 bytes when I copy to sd

When I copy a file, photo etc. from internal memory to sd card the result is a file with 0 bytes. Is there a fix? is it happen to someone? i tried to change file manager and sd card but the result don't change.
The sd card work. When I take a photo or for backup there isn't any problem. Any idea?
Me too
I agree cause I change sd yet still 0byte
But I take photo and save to sd it can
That's one of the Oreo update bugs.
I have the same
Before I think sd broken
I've just tried it with Total commander and file has the correct size and content. Can't see anything wrong
With Mi file explorer the copy works.
For the moment ok but I hope in a fast fix...
Works fine with X-plore file manager
No issues here. Using Solid Explorer.
*Edit* Retried and it is failing with Solid Explorer. Using Asus File Manager, no issue.
No. Try to copy a photo for example from WhatsApp directory to sd card. With X-plore and solid explorer (but also with Es file explorer, etc.) the copy is 0 bytes

yes, now it is failing with Solid Explorer. I am now using Asus File Manager and it works, copying the same photo files from internal memory to SD Card. Give this one a try.

Yes, MI file explorer too but it's a bug, I think
Using File Manager + , same problem.
I have the same problem as well. Solid explorer doesn't work but neither does anyone else... This is a huge problem for me! Flud downloaded files to the SD also show as 0B and don't play. I thought I had a corrupted card (Kingston 64GB U3) and I got a new Toshiba Exceria 128 U3 and still the same problem! Damn! I didn't have this bug with Nougat and first Oreo built... Will have to format as internal again until it's fixed.
Known bug under Oreo. Just use the internal 'Files' data manager.
Just gotta wait till the devs get active
Also doesn't work with Root Explorer.
With System-Apps (File, Fotos..) -> OK
With Open Camera (requested access to sd after change Storage to SD) -> OK
With Total Commander, QuickPic -> FAIL 0kb
With Droid over Wif -> no access to SD
Have the same problem. When I try to copy file to sd card it end up like 0 kb. Total commander fail and system app "File" fail to copy to SD card as well. Photos are saved on SD card when take pictures.
After copying files to SD-card try to reboot your device. On my mi a1, after reboot almost all files on SD-card are ok
Reboot your device after you copy your files, and it will show the file size, happens to me too. hope it helps.
I'm having the same problem. I believe that the file is there intact, however for some reason, it is reporting back as a 0B file.
I just did the April 1 2018 update and when I reboot, the problem went away, only to come back within an hour or so.
Possible fix for some people.
Install xposed module XInternalSD or Magisk Module ExSDCard Write Access Enabler 5.0-8.
I prefer the xposed module because it has a GUI to enable/disable on per app basis.
