I had searched previously and read some things about this "bump" charging stuff supposedly getting you many more hours of usage on a normal schedule.
Actually, guess I should preface with some background info. This is my first android phone, but I've been watching since 1.6 came out. So, the day I got my Epic it was rooted and I flashed Nebula ROM on it. I also tried out Epic Experience, but was more pleased with Nebula. Of course I'm running DK28 with the modem fix.
On to my question. What can be done to increase battery life on a fairly undemanding schedule, without causing the device itself to operate less smoothly?
I tried several of the bump charging methods I saw, but I'm sitting at 33% battery after 5:45.
I'm going to feel dumb if this is actually average and I'm just expecting too much, haha.
Thank you, kindly.

You can try calibrating your battery. If you don't know how, well here's some instructions:
To do this, all you have to do is let your battery completely drain. Then while the phone is off, charge it for around eight hours straight without turning the phone on (have it just showing the battery icon).
Since you are already at 33% or so, I'd suggest just letting it drain today, and have it just charge overnight.
I, too, am running the Nebula Rom, but I haven't tested it for a full day without charging it yet. So, you can try calibrating the battery if you would like to see if you would get any improvement, but in my opinion, 33% at 5:45 sounds great. I'd be satisfied with that.
Please let me know how it all turns out.
Hope this helps!

Thank you for the speedy reply, I will try that.
I wasn't really expecting 33%, but more around 50%. I've only sent three texts today on it (as I was trying to see how well it'd hold up) and so I assumed battery life would be fairly high. But I am also living in an area with extremely poor coverage, so bad that it'll start searching for signal if I move the phone 2 feet away. So maybe it is trying to acquire a signal often.
I'll report back in the morning. Any other advice/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Well, there's basic things as well.
Check to see if Data Roaming is on, make the brightness Auto, no live wallpaper, no bluetooth, no GPS, No background data/Accounts Sync.
But you shouldn't have to do ALL of those. Just a couple if you haven't already to boost the battery a little.
And yes, searching for a signal could be the problem.
And only three texts? Nothing else? Maybe there is something wrong.
Tell me the results tomorrow after calibrating the battery.
I'm using midnight rom and I'm at 20h26m and 33% with moderate usage. You can try recalibrate and wipe 3x b4 install the rom. It might help. Good luck.

Alright, it's 9:20 EST and I'm starting off with 96% battery life. I'll gauge how it holds up through "normal" usage, which is somewhat less conservative. Wifi will be on nearly constantly, my signal will be weak unless I leave, autosync is set to hourly with background data.
I normally get about 12-16 hours on what I call moderate use.
I leave gps on all the time. I make ~6-10 calls a day for 5-30 minutes. I send and receive ~30 texts a day. I'll put an hour or two worth of internet time per day. (not watching videos)
I kill the drm and friend locator services on every boot. This helped my battery life a lot.
It does help to train your battery dragon occasionally.

Ya, that's the kind of performance I'd like. Are you running stock or do you have a rom installed? Also, what DRM and Friend Locater? Never heard of the latter.

Are you saying to turn Data Roaming on or off? I could come up with a reason it would help either way, so do tell.
Same thing with Auto brightness, I would think that actually uses more battery than a fixed lower/medium brightness.
Do people on here really leave Sync and GPS off?
Compared to these settings, I'm completely lazy, and still get good battery life.

Turn off Data Roaming. The reason being is that with it on, your network will constantly search for data, and that drains the battery. The brightness I am actually not sure on. I have had better results with auto rather than, say, 0%.
If you get good battery life already, that's fine. But auto-sync isn't really necessary in my opinion.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Alright, it's been 5:33 since it's been unplugged and I'm sitting at 68%. This is with wifi on the entire time, brightness set to auto, and data roaming off (no need for it to be on, I was considering toggling it based on my location in Tasker). Sync is on and I rarely have use for GPS in my day-to-day so that is off.
So I think the calibration as recommended by Acer1096xxx has effected the life of my battery for the better. Thank you, once again.
Hopefully this thread will help others out in the long run. I'll continue to monitor my activity and battery life.
EDIT: 57% as of 5 o'clock. Had to plug it in because I'd be going out tonight doing things. Overall, this is about the performance I was hoping.
Hi there.
I was reviewing Samsung's published specs about the Galaxy Note and they say:
http://www.samsung.com/au/consumer/mobile-phone/mobile-phone/galaxy-note/GT-N7000ZBJXSA-spec
Batteryspec view Battery data Standard Capacity 2,500mAh
Talk Time Up to 1,570 minutes (2G), Up to 810 minutes (3G)
Stand-by Time Up to 960 hours (2G), Up to 820 hours (3G)
OMFG!! They must be kidding. I can barely survive a day and they claim 800+ hours of stand-by battery? That's more than a month!!
I tried CM9 and Paranoid 0.2. I loved them because they came without Samsungs bloatware and you could activate the tablet mode. I really loved them but battery life was poor so now I am trying Casie's Xtralite ROM (supposed to be a fork from the original ROM without unnecesary apps...
In the best case I can make 2 days of usage, turning off communications, setting max CPU at 800MHz (yes, 800MHz) and so on.
I use 'battery drain' to keep track of the battery drainage and it looks as if 1.5%/hr is the lowest value I can get.
Can you guys recommend me what the best ROM is for my purpose? At this time I don't care if it's ICS or GB...
Thank you in advance.
The point of those factory figures is that the phone is being used for absolutely zero, except waiting for a call. While I tend to doubt them too, I get quite a lot better than 1.5%/hr drain. I put my phone in airplane mode for the night, and while I haven't been precise about checking this, I don't think I lose more than 2% through the night.
Have you installed CPU Spy? Does your unit go into deep sleep?
Calm down! You are ruining the queens jubilee lol
And on a serious note *get it * I think something may be wrong with your phone, look at my attachment, that is with constant on and off use, with still 50% left so not to sure what is wrong with your phone, maybe its not hitting the deep sleep state. All the times in the attachment where the screen was off but phone was awake is when I was driving and left the wifi on, strange though because surely it shouldn't be like this.
When in deep sleep, GPS OFF, WiFi OFF, bluetooth OFF, data OFF, no data traffic at all, no calls, no SMS, 4 bars phone signal, I've seen it drop less than 5% a day. So it could last two weeks. One month is difficult to test.
Any activity on the phone, even moving from one place to the other (it has to discover and switch cell towers), consumes battery. Areas with weak phone signal make the phone use more power to try to communicate with the cell tower.
Look at the right of the picture below, completly flat. Even with 3G and WiFi enabled, if you have good signal and are not receiving data, it does not drop more than 1% in 3 hours. You could have the phone in that state for days.

Those Specs may differ with a "real usage" of the Phone. I bet they just kept it for a couple of minutes without a SIM and did the Math to say its 960 Hours. Maybe they really did it, but that doesn't prove anything.
I have 0% Battery Drain - When I don't have a SIM inside, Inside an Air conditioned Environment, Without any apps, and Not picking up the Phone even to unlock it.
Performance may vary depending on the geographic location, Network Operator, Network Mode (2G,3G) Environment Temperature, Accessories used, Applications Installed and I can go on...
Dont fall for the Spec sheets and reports, Do a dry run on your own.
As for the Rom Experience, GB 2.3.6. XXLC1 with SpeedMod Kernel was the Best Rom with the Longest Battery Life.
I get usually 3 days with normal phone use and over 12 hours of talk time on a full charge - so nope, not a joke.
Why is my phone not going into deep sleep? Some days it does, some days it doesn't. Now a days, it regularly doesnt.
Upgraded to ICS and stock ROM.

That's the wakelock problem. Perform a search, there are already threads concerning this issue.
Some guy on xda said if you dont use the offical charger and cable it stops the note from going into deep sleep, he said if you use an unofficial one, just reboot the phone and it will deep sleep ok, as long as you only use the offical stuff.
I dont know how true this is.
I never have used the official charger and cable and mine is asleep all the time.
John.
I envy you guys, for me i think ICS consumes more power than Gingerbread with the same apps and the same services that i have always had.
I don`t come near what some of you guys (screenshots) get on a full charge, and unless i turn off all services and syncs i will get those numbers.
Running RocketRom 4.1 with Franco kernel R5.
Someone will buy Galaxy Note for just lying on the table and waiting for a call over a month?
i was at 55% at about 5pm yesterday after 10+ hours of battery usage, 1.5hrs of screen, and probably 2 hours of LTE (the rest wifi). i use juice defender so when the screen is off it generally cuts data signals for me. well from 5pm to 9pm my battery went from 55% to 1% with maybe less than 30 minutes of usage (all on LTE though). i looked and no unwanted programs were running in the background.
i charged it overnight, got up and after an hour this morning of ALL standby (seriously the screen was on 3m), i went from 100% to 87%. that would mean on 100% standby the phone would have died within 8 hours, which is definitely not right or even similar to previous battery usage for me.
i restarted my phone, recharged, and so far it has been on for 40 minutes and the battery is at 99% with 2m of screen time, which makes a lot more sense. so have you ever experienced something like this where an android OS restart helps your battery, or does it sound like i might have a bad battery?

Install Carat, it will tell you exactly what is draining your battery. I'm guessing something something is syncing in the backgruond and killing your battery.

i am in fact ATT. sorry i haven't seen the other posts about it, have they broken through to figure out the root of the problem? any link to a thread about this? it's very, very odd. 8 hours of battery life is no good, too.

I seem to get it when I am in a poor LTE coverage area, which includes one of my offices. It is strange. "Cell Standby" will usually have the largest battery usage in your settings. My temporary fix is to turn off "mobile data" from the toggle in notifications, especially if you have wifi where you are. You can usually tell when the battery is being drained b/c your phone will stay warm even with no apps running and the screen off. The only other thing that seems to help is restarting it every day or so. When I don't have this problem, the battery life on this phone is amazing, so I don't think it's a bad battery. If you find out a better solution, please let me know!
I'm assuming you get off work at 5 and use the phone more. If so, turn off juice defender when you leave work. Since juice defender turns off your signal, you have to reconnect every time you use the phone. That kills battery more than anything

Doesnt that defeat the purpose of having JD? Has anyone shown than JD uses more battery than not having it at all?
Fyi cell standby doesnt actually use as much battery as it reports, its just incorrectly displayed on the battery meter. Hopefully there will be an update to fix it eventually. Google it if you want to fix it manually.

Cell standby is just a reporting bug. It is not actually draining your phone as much as it shows.
There are two separate problems. There is the problem on the international S3's where it is reporting cell standby incorrectly. There is another problem with some of the ATT S3's where they are continually connecting or re-connecting to the network where they have a poor LTE signal. This is actually using the battery. You can feel the heat from your phone when you have no apps open and it is normally cool to the touch. The only solution I have found so far is to turn off mobile data, and the phone will cool down again and stop draining battery.

Right. It's just cosmetic.
I don't have LTE in my area and my battery life is okay. I use wifi at my house and at work. I just think it could be better, but i am used to my dinc with my custom rom and kernel. Amazing battery life. I can't wait until we get some sweet roms and kernels for the S3. So far i am super impressed with the phone.

This isn't a problem that too many people are having, but there are enough that it must be a bug, at least for ATT. There is a toggle in your notifications that will turn off mobile data. I don't think it is enough to just turn it off and back on. If you are in an area with bad reception, you have to leave it off or the draining continues. If you find something else that works, please share with us.

I'm also seeing this issue; battery gets hot and drains quick in sleep.
I'm running stock, and only rooted.
I do notice when checking my battery that "Android System" is taking up the majority of my battery, by a considerable amount. Is anyone else who is experiencing the drain issue also seeing this under their battery reporting menu?
Hi guys,
I've had my nexus 4 for a bit less than a year now, and I really am not satisfied with the battery life, both standby and even so when using, ON MOBILE DATA. Battery life on Wifi seems not too bad, but on mobile data, whether the signal is high or low, the battery just goes down super quickly. Everything else about this phone is still rocking so nicely, so I was considering switching phone just for battery life. But I thought maybe I should consider asking here first, and also maybe trying battery pack too. But before I spend my money on a battery pack, do you guys know how to have noticeably longer battery life on nexus 4 WHILE DATA IS ON?
Thanks!
i get 4.5-5h screen on time constantly, with only mobile data, lte. battery life all depends on how you personally use the phone, how you set it up, what apps you use, and, very importantly, the quality of your phone/data signal. that phone/data signal can make a huge impact on battery life. anyways, using hspa+, i get around 4h sot. on lte i get closer to 5h sot.
Look at things that make your phone work more than it has to.
Do you need to report your location to Google to have them prompt you about a nearby business that wants a portion of your paycheck? (or maybe it's allowance). If not turn off location reporting. How bright do you have your screen? Do you have auto brightness enabled?
Google is your friend. Make use of their search tools and do some of the tips they talk about. No matter what you do, mobile data will chew your phone alive if you do not have a good signal.

Thanks for letting me know. How about standby time? For me, on standby with 3g on (not lte), probably 1% drop for every 5 to 10 minutes. not really sure 100% cause I never measured it. But for ex, on the road, if I check my battery life often, I can see the percentage drop super quickly. When using it, it plummets almost. lol
Does Nova launcher drain battery by any chance? I've been using nova launcher for a long time, but after I installed it for my sister on her pretty old GS2 last time, she told me she thinks Nova launcher is draining her phones battery. I'm not sure what other apps I have may drain battery. FB, and messaging apps definitely makes my phone wake lock more frequently, but I definitely need to get notification from messaging apps, so I can't greenify them. Same for apps like Wunderlist, where I need to receive reminder because they are important.
I just tried a battery saver app but it doesn't really help much..it's much different from when I first got my nexus 4 about an year ago. Back then, I don't know what I had installed but my standby time was extremely good on Wifi at least, MUCH better than my old GS2. But now it's as bad as that.
Do you use any battery saver app? any suggestions?
BTW, the max I get with a mix of 3G and wifi is about 2 hours. No games btw. Just web, google now, play store, app interaction, google plus, etc.

I've searched google a lot before, and they tell me battery saving tips, saving apps, etc that I am already familiar with. I've been using Android since cupcake. But they don't help much because some settings, I need the features, so I can't turn off, and apps they suggested, I tried them before, and I tried again today, but this battery saver app I used (had very good rating and high num of downloads) didn't work as expected. For ex. I tell it to manage both my wifi and data, and when I turn off screen at home with wifi on, it should turn off wifi and ALSO turn off 3g, but it only turns off wifi and it keeps 3g on, which will make my battery life actually worse. I tried with other settings, and it's not as helpful as I thought. Maybe some other battery saver apps are better?
Hello,
After reading alot of reviews about the s7 edge battery life i decided to get it. so i got 2 days ago and was really excited about it. the problem the battery is draining so fast and thats really confusing
ive seen screenshots with 50 hours and 60 hours with estimated time. mine barely shows 7 hours. today for example i left the house at 8 with 92% and now im back wth 36% left screen was on auto with wifi
and 3g and sometime gps on. is this normal? am i being paranoid? is it true that the battery will get better with more days of use?
Please tell me what should i do im really worried that its faulty or something.
PS: i did a factory reset before i use it.
Yes, it will take a couple of days for the battery to level out. Do you have the Exynos or Snapdragon processor? What apps are reporting high battery use? Have you disabled any apps?
Sorry for the barrage of questions, but all of these things play a role in your battery life. I recommend GSAM battery monitor and Greenify with aggressive doze, but I will say that 50-60 hours is ambitious. I can usually get 25-30 hours with about 5 hours of SOT. That is with a combination of wifi, 4g, gps and Bluetooth on (android wear), some gaming and facebook, instagram, etc.

Hi thanks for the reply, yeah its my fault i forgot to mention some information
I am using the Exynos model in Netherlands. the screen is always on the top of the list of the battery usage. im using gsam to monitor the battery and i dont think there is anything unusual there android system on the top using 25% or something. im really scared of using anything so it wont die on me outside today i was only navigating and doing some whatsapp calls on the 3g network "not even 4g". i only disabled facebook and using nova launcher and the AOD is off also. im not sure if i should send it back... how many days are we talking about for the battery to get better? i only want somehow a good battery not worse than my old grand prime. as i said i got it wendesday's evening and now its friday and its still bad

If I'm reading correctly, you are losing about 60% in 5 hours? If so, that is definitely excessive even during the first 2 or 3 days unless the screen was on and the phone active the entire time. Can you post screen shots of you battery stats? Maybe some app is causing the problem, but is not being reported as using too much battery.
Some folks say that the different firmwares have different battery usage. Has yours updated?

ok someone told me to turn it off and charge to 100% so i dont have enough data now. but im doing a test now with pokemon go lol
the screen is on about 70% brightness wifi and gps are on and radio is off (i have low cell signal now) and music app playing in the background and now after 50 minutes i am at 89% with screen on all the time. do you think this is good or bad?
i just noticed something in most of the screen shots from other people gsam shows about 3.80v near the temperature but mine show 4.07v does this makes any difference?
That sounds normal for an hour of paying Pokemon Go. It's pretty battery intensive. That voltage is just the current battery charge. It'll drop as your battery percent drops.
