I'm here, my friend. Just waiting to see what devs do with this tab. It's lower-end, but it's snappy and feels premium. I hope we can get some CM action on this bad boy. Depends on the popularity, but I think the price point should help a lot.

The only thing low end is the price this feels nicer than my transformer prime. Does have a small lag from time to time opening apps though.

Yea well it does have *slightly* better specs than the Prime, but the Prime was released in 2012. The price can't be beat, tho. I hope people flock to it.
I think part of the reason there's no one here is because you can't find this tablet anywhere but a few brick-and-mortar Best Buy stores right now. I can't find a single online retailer that lists it in their stock yet. Once it's widely available, this forum should fill up. For now, it's just you and me, I guess lol.

True that. Im looking foreard to rooting, and opening up dual window to all apps. How does yours run?
Just picked mine up from BestBuy. Rooted with Towelroot and Xposed. I have found that the G3 tweaks xposed module works, haven't tested all of it but ehat i have so far works.

Wow. Can you post a guide?
Sure thing.
Here is towel root https://towelroot.com
Download the app a day run it, will give you root. After that download supersu from the market and run it.
Download xposed from here http://repo.xposed.info
I think latest stable is 2.6.1.
After that you can download the g3 tweak from the market. The g3 and 10.1 are very similar rom wise, I've been able go use some of the theme tweaks (every one tried has worked, but can't guarantee all of it works since it's for the g3)
Sent from my LG-D850 using XDA Free mobile app
I grabbed a 7" and hoping this picks up. Also a separate forum if necessary
I can confirm that this works. I even picked up an app from the play store that allows you to add any app to the duel windows. Ive wanted that function ever since i got this device! I havnt played with the framwork too much but seems to work.
I guess the only thing missing is a custom recovery. Any insight on that anybody?
BTW, towel root was the easiest root ever. One click app. No hooking up to a computer.

I wonder if LG threw in an encrypted boot loader on the tabs. Also I couldn't find any information on this but does the G Pad 10.1 support USB OTG? I plan on picking one up within the week and hopefully get a custom recovery going soon after.

Flex multi window mod
I got one and i rooted it with towelroot with no problem. Even installed flex multi window app and works fine. The only problem is that it doesn't support NTFS usb sticks. I don't have any FAT32 right now to try but i'll search if it's possible to add NTFS support.
coming soon my 7.0 !!
Can someone please see if you can enable Chromecast's screen mirroring after rooting the 10.1 by using the Mirror Enabler app?
I greatly appreciate it.
I just got the gpad 7.0 from att with the G3 bundle for 99cents. Im trying to decide if I want to keep it or return. The screen quality isn't all that great. I also couldn't root it with towelroot as it says its not supported. I wish there were more activity in the forums for the g pads too.
Update: I was able to successfully root the G Pad 7.0 At&t version using purpledrake. LG-V410
I got my mom a like new g pad 7.0 off ebay for nice price but didn't realize it's the At&T version. We are just going to use it with Wi-Fi. That shouldn't be a problem right?
also, is there a way to stop the pad from asking for sim card besides turning on airplane mode? thank you
Will the Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Retail see root by March 1, 2015? Wanted to see what you guys think in a poll.
There are threads where this should go.
There are people messing around with getting root, but nothing real serious. Unfortunately, the Verizon retail Note 4 isn't likely to ever get root, certainly not by March. No chance.
There's a radio button for that

I'm mobile, can't see the poll. I'd say between lollipop possibilities and recently discussed exploits, 60% chance.
Are there android phones in the past or current that has never seen root access?
The only thing I use root for is Titanium Backup so I can freeze bloatware. That is about it, but I have enough memory and quite frankly the stock works very well for me.

They are crackin' pretty hard at it over on the AT&T side. If they find a way, it should work for us. Here's hoping. This thing runs great but these dangforblasted white screens are driving me insane. Time-line? Who knows. The sooner the better.

This was actually my motivation for starting this thread. It seems like it's heating up a bit over there and I was wondering if that had changed anyone's opinion from the first "Root Poll" thread started a while ago. I'm certainly more optimistic after seeing all of the activity. On the other hand history does seem to shoe that the big advances seem to come from people who have been silently waiting in the wings.
Yea it has been a while since I put up that root poll. It's since died out which is understandable.
My point of view is (and yes I voted) lol
I don't believe well see root in this device! I fear that this is the way it's going to be for most new devices rolling out from here on out. Unless you purchase a dev edition.
To me. The phone runs very well! Use the blocking script and u can free up some ram. Otherwise the only things Im missing the most is cleaning up the notification bar and TiBu. Otherwise I'm happy!
Course this is just my opinion.
Carry on

Not gonna happen
Not going to happen. Saving for iPhone 6 plus were jailbreak works no matter what carrier. Maybe the m8. Does the m8 have root on verizon even? It's going to take me a while to save 800 bucks, maybe we will get lucky. Stock would not be bad, but suckwiz is killing me.
I've been optimistic for those on the note 4 verizon version, unfortunatley the sad truth is, its either going to never come to note 4 or will be almost a year till root is achieved. I'm going to be staying with my note 3 for a long time. Possibly forever, until note edge/edge 2 note 5 gets root and custom recovery. Just my opinion, I'm cheering you guys on, it's hard without dev support. Once the dev support get's tripled than might have a better chance. But till then, your gonna have to wait it out. Best of luck and I'm rooting for your guys
I am not optimistic. I suppose it is the DE edition for the N5 or off to another manufacturer whose phone can be rooted.
Can't really put the blame on the manufacturer. I understand that tmobile variant of the Note 4 can be rooted. It's a carrier thing. Maybe Samsung just has a more secure method. But it's only there because Verizon wants it there.

Nope. MLB at Bat app. If I want to watch my home team I can't be in the tv/radio "broadcast territory" of either of the teams playing. On my previous phone I used "FakeGPS". Apk has to be copied to "/system/priv-app" in order to work with "Allow Mock Locations" turned off... MLB at Bat app knows if Allow Mock is turned on.
And maybe it was PEBKAC but I'm pretty sure I tried renaming a picture on my SD Card and was denied. Insanity.

Not recommended for locked bootloaders, of which all US carrier versions are
The root situation right now is pretty much in Samsung/Verizon's hands. Our Verizon variants have the Qualcomm Snapdragon 820, the only root or twrp solutions right now are for exynos. Not only that but our bootloader is locked (currently no official way to unlock like HTC dev equivalent or something) and even worse (for prospects of rooting that is), Samsung utilizes Qualcomms secure boot and dm-verity. So any unsigned images won't be accepted and even if they are, dm-verity would make it so that any changes on the /system partition would boot loop your device. Seems like the only way we'll get root is if Verizon presses on Samsung (like T-Mobile is rumored to be doing) to get some sort of HTC dev type unlock program going.
I had Note 4 on Verizon for a year since release and it never got root. Im pretty sure it's still unrootable device.
I'm guessing this will be the case here.
Maybe there are devs working on this to exploit our phone: http://www.engadget.com/2016/03/22/google-warns-of-android-root-exploit/
Unless this is what we just got the security patch for.

I'm sure you can always root Verizon version of the GS7 but no doubt you won't be able to flash any rooms on the device (just like in the past). But touchwiz has been slimmed down and a hell of alot less bloatware. Even with my past Verizon phonestore I never really found the need for a new ROM (although it would have sped up the phones quite a bit) but I found that just having root access is perfect, especially now a day's with the higher specs and reliability of Samsung devices. I wonder if SuperSU or KingRoot will work, they are the best one step rooting process without a pc.

SuperSU isn't a rooting meathod that works without a custom recovery, so no it won't work.
KingRoot users specific vulnerabilities that have been patched, so no it won't work either.
Error will be impossible without finding a way to get rid of dm-verify, which the only way to do that right now is a repacked kernel, which is not flashable because secure boot prevents unsigned flashing.

I hope I'm wrong and we get root on Note 8 like on S8 and S7 versions.
The real problem is that root is not full root. It's always based off the engineering kernel/firmware now (for both the S7 and the S8) and it severely limits the performance of the device.
The S8 can only charge to %80 once it's rooted, it also breaks Netflix, and most of the Samsung apps. Also the bootloader is still locked down tight so there is no way to flash AOSP.
It's really not worth it. There are ways to get almost everything without root now.

Just thought I'd let those of you who can't root their note and didn't know that Samsung blocked all the ability to theme/change fonts on your phone from anywhere but their official theme store. So, if you have substratum and have purchased andromeda, themegalaxy, swift installer.....etc, you are SOL. In order for any of those to work, you'd have to have root. This is going to be my last Sammy phone ever. First they lock down their bootloaders (I know carriers are involved and want you to upgrade every year), then now are locking any third party themes. And to top it off, they are horrible at pushing updates/new software to their customers. If you buy a locked down phone, you'd get a couple of updates (I mean android versions not security updates) then you're stuck with an older version of android until you buy a new phone.
Just thought I'd throw this out there so you decide whether or not to update to pie. IF there is a way to block automatic updates.

Isn't theme issues (whatever level of issues) on Pie have to do with Google killing it and not the phone OEM? Google killed call recording on Pie. They seems to be wanting to kill more and more features we've been depending on that have nothing to do with Samsung.

I think is has to do with Google slowly working towards making a dark theme systemwide, should be available on next version of Android. You can also expect even more difficulties using overlays on next Android.
Google is trying to tighten things up on Android. Do I like? No! But we can't say they are wrong to do it either.
I mean, look at how many Android devices are activated daily. Security lately is a much bigger concern for all companies and users. Blocking modifications and overlays is a way of making your phone more secure.
Thanks for sharing but I don't use third party themes anymore since most of them seems to drain the battery way too much
Why not just downgrade to Oreo 8.1 ? PIE-9 ONE UI Sucks at the moment.. Maybe 6 months or a years’ time it might get there and then ill upgrade!! Until then I’m sticking to 8.1 as it rocks!

I get the frustration, I think you may have some misplaced blame however. Right now I'm on Oreo Note 9, (SM-N960U1) root not possible, and wish I could stay on it, screw Pie and google. <-They are the ones you should be pointing at!
Hell, besides all the bugs on pie, they are the ones blocking us. Then there is that stupid apple-esque gestures, not to mention there terrible multitasking!! google has head-up you know what right now. (thank god Nova still works on pie)
Wait until you read about what Q is going to bring. Why in the hell is google going to help carriers by allowing SIM lock? nah, security or not, I've been saying for over two years now, google is not our friend. Sure I get it, revolutionary, and we all use them every day, but they are no longer a "good" company, but just after making money.
As far as Samsung locking down the bootloader, do you not think that the only way they can get our U.S. pile-o-crap carries to carry their phone, they have to? Hey I'm not sure about that, but I'd give it better the 70/30 that's why. Ya, you mentioned the same, and I agree, it's because of carriers.

Well, good for Samsung , Google and the carriers. This is going to be my last Samsung phone and through a carrier. It's either gonna be cheap mid-range phones or older iphone (like apple is any better lol)

I have got a n9 thats unrooted for my daily.. just picked up a lgv30 for my audio and rooting fixes.
I might as well just settle in for the long haul until international phones are rootable and working on Verizon.

So, I just spoke to the devs of swift installer and they confirmed that it will work on one UI. So, I hope that means substratum will work, too, maybe?

Phones are everywhere now and the competition is very hot in the market. Samsung and the carriers can shove their non rootable phones up there @#$#. Imagine having a non rootable Samsung phone and you wanted to keep it for a while, you're literally stuck on one firmware for as long as you have that phone knowing how horrible Samsung updates are.

I'm running it on pie. It works for apps no problem. But system UI, settings, and some galaxy apps are not working right now.

I think it's because of the dark mode on Pie. I hope they'll have a work around so we can theme the system with other colors beside black or white.
