When I use Google Now ("Ok Google") to send a text, it takes me to the last step "do you want to send it?" After I say "yes", it says sending text failed. I tried updating google services, Google app. Nothing works. I'm on stock Verizone LG V20. Anyone has this issue?

Not sure if this issue has come up anywhere, I did do a search but didn't find this particular issue in the details.
As you can see from my sig line I've flashed several different ROMs. I am not sure when the problem started, but I am just now getting to the point where it has become irritating.
If I call my phone from anywhere and allow it to go to voice mail, I can hear the prompt and leave a message. However, I never get the Visual Voice Mail indicator, and perhaps more importantly, if I call my voice mail, it reports there are no messages in my mailbox. This happens whether I call it from my phone, or any other phones. This happens if I leave a message, hang up and call right back.
What's even more strange is that when my GF calls me she gets a specialized message "Hi Tina, Brian can't come do the phone right now...". When my buddy calls me he gets a standard cell phone greeting message, the default Sprint one. And if I go into my voice mail my default greeting is a recorded message saying "Leave a message", but again, when you call it you don't hear that. Weird huh?
Has anyone experienced this, or does anyone have a solution? Not sure what's going on, or where to start.
Thanks.
Sprint VVM app has issues with AOSP ROMs.
Follow this thread for a fix that works on a lot of ROMs

Not sure this is ROM or app related yet. Since there are some definite quirks when different people call me. That's what is really odd. Messages left in vmail by caller aren't even there when I call vmail manually.
I do seem to have a working vvm app. It even updated to a newer version. I can listen to sample messages, go thru settings.
Have you ever used Google voice, and then not disabled it properly?

Hm....I am not sure, maybe I'll try to install and uninstall....
Odd, I cannot get Google Voice to install. It is a free program yet I get an error: Error processing purchase. [DF-BPA-09] . I am able to download and install other apps, I tested with Twitter app.
Ok here's a clue:
I turned off my phone, then called it using my office phone and left a message. I then called it again and pressed * during the greeting which prompted me for my PIN. Upon entering my PIN the system reported that I have 28 new messages. LOL.
If I check my voice mail from my mobile phone however, it says I have no messages.
PROBLEM SOLVED!
Apparantly an installation of YouMail on one of my ROM installs started forwarding messages with that service. I reinstalled that application and it found all of my messages. I then used the following codes to deauthorize YouMailL *38 Call and *720 Call. I don't know which one worked, but these deauthorize YouMail and return you back to Sprint Voice mail. I tested by calling my phone and sending to voice mail and it did in fact send the message to Sprint VVM.
Hope that helps anyone that stumbles across this message.
My SMS will not receive messages at all. I use in conjunction with google voice, and then I receive them fine, but if I elect to receive via messaging app, I can send SMS's all the time, but nothing will show as received in the SMS app - they will still appear in my google voice though when I check voice online. I am on latest stock version of rom and still nothing works to receive SMS via messaging app. Any ideas on what could be causing this and how to fix it? I tried other SMS apps from the market but they do not receive messages either.
I have tried the short codes to turn Google voice on (*71) but the short code to turn Voice off (*73) doesn't work - just get a prompt stating this short code is not valid. Any help?

*28areacodephonenumber is the Sprint code for conditional call forwarding. *38 is the Sprint code to disconnect conditional call forwarding from Google voice. There is a setting in Google voice to have Google voice texts go to Google voice app or stock texting app. You must sign out of Google voice if you want your phone to go back to normal and/or dial *38 to disengage Google voice for voicemail. If you don't, you won't get your messages and voicemail normally. It's this what you're asking?
I go into Google Voice app and select the option to only receive SMS via the stock messaging app. It saves the option, but then I do not receive any SMS on the stock app - but if I log into my google voice account the messages do arrive there. I've deactivated Google Voice completely, I've uninstalled the app, I've done everything - still can't receive messages on my stock app. I'd read before that there's a short code (*71 and *73) to manually turn on/off Voice, but only the *71 talk works, *73 is disconnected. Need some help!
Those codes don't work for Google voice. The codes you're interested in are *28yourareacodeandphonenumber to activate conditional call forwarding our *38 to deactivate. As far as I know, no other codes, even land line call forwarding codes, work. Have you tried updating your prl and profile? Try sending yourself a text from the stock app to your Sprint number. If you're not receiving it then perhaps you need to call customer service to get the issue straightened out. I suggest the updating first then reboot and see what happens. I set my phone up so that my Sprint number isn't integrated into Google voice. I want to see which number someone is coming in from. I don't know anything about integration, so u couldn't help you there. There might be a setting in the stock app that it's turned off by mistake that is keeping the stock app from working as it should be.
Edit: Maybe customer service needs to reprovision your account. It's basically resetting the account settings to their proper place in case something got fudged up.
I use regular SMS, Google voice, Wasapp, and some others to send texts. On Galaxy s4, from my call history I could select the number, then select send message and the phone would ask me which app I want to use, then I could pick either stock app or Google voice. But on the S5, when I do the same, it won't let me pick! when I select to send a message it goes directly to stock app. I use Google voice because I sell on craigslist so I always give my "fake" number.
Also from Google voice, if I have a missed called (on google voice app) and I select send a message, it will take me to the stock app to send the message, not Google voice itself. on the S4 I had no trouble, if I had Google voice app and select send message, it sends it thru Google voice, not stock app.
any ideas on how this issue can be solved? May not be as important to you as it is for me tho, but if you know the trick please help me!!!
You probably have the default messaging app set up as the app to use for messages always. Go to settings and application manager and clear defaults

Is your S4 already upgraded to kitkat 4.4.2? It looks like kitkat behaviour related with default messaging app.

That is the first thing I did. I went to setting and try to clear default. When I go to messaging there is only one listed, stock app. and won't let me do anything, can't clear default, can't edit to make google voice/wasapp or anything like that.

My s4 is not running kitkat yet.... It sucks! because now, if I want to send a message from call history, I select the caller/contact and I select send message, since it won't let me pick google voice I have to try to send via stock app, so what I do is, I copy the number from "compose message" window, cancel the message. then I open google voice and paste the number and send the message, too much trouble specially when I use google voice a lot.
On my s4 I just click send message and it give me options to send it via stock app, google voice, wasapp etc.
I have a Galaxy S5 rooted Xposedframework/Twrp. An issue I'm having is that when someone sends me a voice message I can't play it .m4a (or play one that I've recorded) I can use the microphone to record and send a voice file but it says that 'All apps associated with this action have been turned off, blocked or not installed' when i tap on the play button. I don't have much blocked (that I know of) or frozen and wanting to know what it may be or if there is something I can download to get it working. Also it is only the standard messaging app that comes factory on the phone. If I send one through fb messenger I can play it back just fine.
I have a S8 Oreo on Verizon, using Textra (have also had same issue in Android messages and Pulse), gboard every time I use voice to text via gboard it transcribes what I say and when it stops it says "Google has stopped". (Open app again Send feedback.) If I send feedback the keyboard and or voice to text won't work but I can send feedback report. In texting I can just click re open app and it will function normally until I finish my next voice to text. Any help appreciated as I would like to get rid of this error. I factory reset and still get this issue. Have had phone about a year no issues. TIA
Do what I did. ./adb that MoFo out of your phone and use Samsung's keyboard?
