Zte axon 7 a2017 update issue - ZTE Axon 7 Questions & Answers

I bought an axon 7 a2017 the chinese version from aliexpress, and the phone itself is great but the seller did something with the phone and I am not able to download updates for it, it says it's up to date but it's running Android 6.0 on mifavor 4.0 b07. I've looked at so many threads and tried to flash it, always says the installation is aborted. OEM is enabled, I think the problem is with the zip. Can someone please post a link for zip so I can update to nougat.

sellers from ali put G rom on chinize phone you need some how flash chinize recovery from bootloader via cmd if its unlocked then flash full B13 6.0 from recovery

In settings>about see if it says A2017 B07 rom. If it does and it's MM then you can just download the B13 (chinese) rom from XDA and put it on the sd card and flash - go to settings>update and it should find it or go to recovery, flash the rom but be prepared to wipe the phone or it will ask for a password when booting. This may erase your data so backup 1st...
I also got an Axon 7 from Ali-express and it was the base B07 rom that it shipped with....

Yep update to b013 then you're rocking into android 7 and OTA updates from then on

Ok

[Chinese]Question re: extracting 7.1.1 modem

Since the 7.1.1 update for chinese a2017 isn't full update file, can we extract the modem from it?
I want to convert my unit to US version using miflash method and I have already done this before but I get problems with signal even after flashing chinese modem from LOS thread by @Unjustified Dev. Although, this signal problem is quite specific with my carrier since I get a stable OS and signal using a different carrier/sim.
I'm thinking about doing it via twrp. Here are the steps I had in mind:
1. From b13, update to 7.1.1 via stock recovery.
2. after finishing setup of 7.1.1, I'll install twrp via fastboot.
3. back up everything in twrp.
4. miflash full b15 US version and twrp.
5. restore modem from twrp from my backup.
Do you think this will work? Or not, since B15 isn't 7.1.1?
Hopefully devs here can also share their thoughts. @ @DrakenFX @Oki @jcadduono
Thanks!
BTW, I attached a pic of what's inside the 7.1.1 update including the contents of patch folder.

You could but you probably won't have any signal, might even break wifi.
Modem/bootstack need to match device.

Upgrade from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on A2017G stock

Hi, I am looking for help to get from 6.0.1 to 7.0 on my A2017G. I am currently on B10 with an unlocked bootloader.
This is what I have tried so far:
a. Route via OTAs and zips on sdcard:
a1. B10 with stock recovery. Android works. Got here from B9 with OTA B10 installed via stock recovery from sdcard (downloaded B10 OTA from German ZTE site).
a2. Updated from Android with the Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip OTA on my sdcard (downloaded from the German ZTE site). Miflash completes without any error message.
a3. Result: phone reboots, after Axon splash screen, phone switches to edl mode (in windows: Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008).
a4. When I reboot to recovery, I can see that the recovery is 7.0.
b. Route via OTAs and N zip via adb sideload:
b1. B10 with stock recovery.
b2. In stock recovery, "flash from adb".
b3. On windows 10 laptop: adb sideload Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip. Result: error message "* cannot read 'Axon7_Nougat-7_0.zip' * ".. Zip opens fine on laptop.
c. Route via TWRP and leaked Nougat 7.0:
c1. B10 with TWRP recovery, version 3.1.0-0-ailsa_ii.
c2. Flash ZTE_A2017G.Nougat_leaked_09_03_2017 BootStack and StockSystem by Tron1.
c3. Result: phone reboots to Axon splash and then switches to edl mode, same as a3.
d. Route via TWRP and complete fota update fota_update_A2017GV1.2.0B01_complete.zip
d1. Same result as c.
I have experience flashing with my HTC m7 but on the A7, it seems there are many more ways to make things go wrong and I have no clue where I am going wrong. Any help would be appreciated.
Some strange things:
1) my A2017G (bought in Germany via Amazon, it says A2017G on the back sticker) reports itself as a A2017U to my windows 10 laptop.
2) in stock recovery, when trying to flash from sdcard, I receive an error message that the A7 cannot mount the sdcard.
Replica - sorry
OK, it seems this thread finds lots of readers, so maybe someone can benefit from the solution that I finally found.
These were the steps I took:
a. Starting point was B10 stock (incl recovery) and unlocked bootloader, completely wiped.
b. Only way I could get the 7.0 update (downloaded from ZTE Germany) to work was by putting the .zip on a usb stick and using an OTG cable. Then, 'update' in settings found the zip and started to update. Result was v1.1.0B01
c. As soon as I booted into 7.0, it found the OTA for v1.2.0B02 and started to install that. So, I now finally have 7.1.1 stock with unlocked bootloader.
A big thank you to @raystef66 who provided lots of practical and moral support. Much appreciated.
How can I close the thread?
@piet8stevens Hi, I have a build number ZTE A2017G V1.0.0 B11, MIFavor UI 4.0, Android 6.0.1, Kernel 3.18.20 and I'd like to upgrade to more efficient less limitative version as I have battery drain and can't remove / change google main account with my version. Would you know what's the best version, Is the one you have now better? also do you know when you mess up the upgrade and your phone doesnt work can you still factory reset?

AFAIK, you can always do factory reset. There are some good threads with all the files you need such as https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/download-center-factory-images-ota-t3606547.
Not sure what you are looking for, but I had good experiences with RR and AEX Nougat. I am currently on RR (unofficial version) N. Am just waiting for O to stabilize a bit to make the switch - see AEX thread https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/development/rom-aospextended-rom-v4-3-t3618950 . I run nanodroid and microG in order to protect my privacy from google. So, no gapps, no google maps etc... .

Installing Resurrection Remix on Build A2017GV1.2.0B01

Hi there, I am looking to root my Axon 7 A2017G and install Resurrection Remix. I have only rooted Oneplus devices before so was looking for some help in the process. I understand that it involves unlocking the bootloader then installing TWRP which can then be used to flash the rom. Firstly it seems from this guide: https://forum.xda-developers.com/axon-7/how-to/guide-install-twrp-unlock-bl-flash-t3517379 that I will have to downgrade to marshmallow first in which case will the default MiFavor Updater detect the update if I simply downloader this one say: http://www.stechguide.com/download-b03-update-for-zte-axon-7-a2017geurope/ and place it in the root of the sdcard? Or will I have to flash that downgrade with the stock recovery?
Secondly in the package my device came in (ordered off AliExpress) it had a note that said this device couldn't be rooted as they had installed their own software, the only possible indication of this however is that the recovery is in chinese(?), I have included a picture. Should I be concerned about this?
Annnnd I can't actually think of a thirdly so thirdly just thanks for any help
Luke
It is just as simple as it can be:
Read and use the following thread:

No. Your phone is NOT an A2017G, it is an A2017!!! Be VERY careful! Why do you think they say that you can't root? for giggles? Look in the back of the phone, it should say the model. You will need to follow guides for the A2017, but I recommend that you download the latest official A2017 update zip, unpack it if needed (if you open the zip you downloaded and there's a PDF and an update.zip, take the update.zip), then take the update.zip and throw it in the root of the internal storage, otherwise throw the zip you downloaded if there's no update.zip. Then go to Update and update.
After that you'll have official A2017 firmware and you can use the guides

How to turn back to chinese stock rom axon 7

Hi, I just received my axon 7 today, everything works fine and I notice that it's been installing with such a chinese custom rom that has google enabled and international languages including my native, but this cant be updated through OTA.
I have downloaded the firmware from official site, B17 build version but through SD card installing the firmware will always get failed because of couldnt verify, file corrupt, installation aborted and it says the firmware doent match with my phone.
I've done factory reset, clear cache and partition but none of them worked. I want the official rom so I can get the latest update easily.

Device failed verification - is there a way to clear this message?

Hello,
Recently a Huawei P9 lite VNS-L21 came into my hands. I experimented a bit with unofficial ROMs but eventually flashed the official back. I had flashed an earlier version, ending in 380 I believe, but because the phone attempted to upgrade to the next incremental update (say, -382) I decided to upgrade myself to the latest supported version (506). I used Firmware Finder to find the firmware and downloaded it to SD card.
Upgrade succeeded - since I had left TWRP recovery in the phone, I used the HuRUpdater which worked flawlessly.
The only small issue is that following this update, a red message is displayed on boot saying the device has failed verification.
Any way to solve this?

Hello,
my doubt is that you flashed a different firmware version from the one you had, thus corrupting the device's oem file. Could you post which was the latest complete firmware without this problem and the last one you downloaded and flashed? ( ex. L21CxxxB382 & LxxCxxxB506 ).
Let me know this info ...
Hi,
I went from l21c432b380 to l21c432b506 during this process. Stock OEM file was flashed before the -380 upgrade (no errors existed, the 380 upgrade followed a flash of -370).
I'm not sure why this is happening - I mean, both firmwares were from the firmware finder app... Weird, to say the least.

Yep, you used correct file but anyhow the firmware has been corrupted.
I think you have some ways to solve...
1 - if you have stock recovery, reboot into it and
download and flash the same latest firmware.
If you do not have it, you can extract (with huawei update extractor) it
(should be recovery1.img) from B506 firmware (update.zip) you already got,
then can be flashed via fastboot commands.
2 - Flash a previous or B380 firmware via HuRUpdater, then
update to latest via Firmware Finder with dns/vpn method.
3 - Repeat the whole job you done with B506 firmware. (via HuRupdater)
4 - Reboot recovery, reflash L21OEMinfo file, dual sim one, then the latest firmware again...
P.S.: method 1, 2, 4 will re-lock the bootloader, no problem if still you got the code...
Beware method 4, after you flash the oeminfo file do not shout down, reboot to bootloader
and unlock it again with the code. Device will reboot into twrp, then flash B506 firmware.
Good luck and let the community know..
