There are other threads already on the following app but some of you may not realise what it does if you were to read the subject line title.
There is an app which can underclock the cpu of the HD while it is on idle and suspend modes.
I have tested it on my HD and it works brilliantly.
Please visit this thread to read up on it more.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=507301
Install only version 1.0 if you have a HD and not the higher versions.
Have you had any problems with locking up or anything?
What happens if you set the backlight off to say 20mHz but have music playing, will it affect the performance?
Touch wood I have not had any lockups yet. Just tested playing music with backlight at 20mhz and no performance issues.
I'm trying this application...
And I'll tell you the result in few days.
Great.
For the record, I have got 2 days out of my phone so far with this app. Before using it my phone lasted about 12 hours.
Looks like good stuff...I'll check it out & report back.
the developer seemed to have disappeared... 1.2 is said to have problems with HD... there are random screen corruption reported too.. thats why i am hoping that 1.3 comes up first
leobox1, try the older version 1.0. I have and it works very well.
installed and will report later.
BTW, can you go as low as possible on the clock speeds for suspend and backlight off?
Thx for the link, i will test it!
This doesnt seem to work on my install of Miri 6.5 V10. I tried V1.0 first and the reported proc speed was always 528 on V1.0. I then uninstalled 1.0 and installed v1.2 just to see and the proggy always reported 528 @ 1.325v. Anyone else get it to work? I may have to go back to a 6.1 rom if not cuz I really would like to have this. Thanx for any info.
Daz
erm..strange question, but where does it install to?
I tried installing version 1.0 on my HD, it told me of no errors, but i cant seem to find it anywhere, not under programs, not with the file explorer..
It says its installed when I check installed software, but I dont know how to execute it..^^
I use Wm 6.5 miri's Rom V10.00. I installed the 1.0 version, but i can't see it on my start menu or anywhere else. i did restart , but nothing happens
Once installed you'll find it under settings, system, processors. You may need to restart.
will try that, thank you very much ;-)

I've put on the same settings than the screenshot on the first page.
NB : 3 % for 6 hours on " suspend " then
8 % for surfing 20 minutes (on XDA-dev )
Could someone give the correct voltages to not damage the blackstone ?
(and Tha it can start nevertheless).
I tried version 1.0 and it made my battery life even worse. The other thing that is bad was the battery indicator would change by 5% increments. Last night i was 99% battery, 7 hours later on suspend it was still on 99%, so i'm thinking 'wow'. When i wake up and actually use the phone, not even heavy. 6 hours later it's on 60% with minor use.
I uninstalled it and now my battery is going down in 1% increments.
Bad program.
use the new version 1.3, it works now really flawless and I had over 8 hours suspend only 1% battery draining.
I just wanted to share with you my recent issue & solution to the XOOM 2 rebooting issue.
Now to give you an overview of my situation, I purchased the XOOM 2 10.1 UK back in January 2012.
I use it almost every single day. No surprises I was getting random screen freezing followed by reboots every single day. Most days twice!
Now I was hoping that when the update happen back around 2 months ago that it would solve this issue. It never.
In fact my freezing & reboots were happening more frequent.
Basically within 5-10 mins of using the Xoom2 it would reboot.
Some days I just wished I could throw the dam thing through the wall.
I rooted using Dan’s method. The only method. & tried various ways to solve the issue.
NOTHING worked.
In fact, I was convinced that my rooting & installing things that should not be there was making the reboots worse.
So I cleaned up my Xoom 2, went into recovery, wiped cache & cleaned data & rebooted.
This still did not work.
Then I tried task managers, cache cleaners & even paid for that system panel app that logs all apps & usage.
Nothing worked; I was still getting the reboots. Everyday.
So after looking over many Xoom 2 forums & with many issues and complaints about this issue, I was close to selling & getting an iPad.
I was convinced it was hardware.
Then I tried this way:
1. I rooted.
2. I installed ADW Launcher & made default.
3. I installed SetCPU
4. I installed Titanium Backup
5. I froze the stock ‘launcher’ – (whatever you do – do not un-install any app, you CANNOT update Xoom if you do)
6. I changed CPU from ‘hotplugmoto’ to ‘performance’ 1200min 1200max
(I know you might think this uses lots of battery but I found not)
7. Set up setCPU profile for ‘screen off’ I use ‘on demand / 300 to 600’
Battery over night on this setting did not go down by 1%
8. Rebooted.
After 4 days of constant use & trying so hard to get the Xoom to freeze & reboot – I can’t.
This method works.
I have surfed using ‘Firefox’ while using ‘Currents’ while using ‘Google+’ while downloading files and steaming music via ‘Google Music’. I have open every single app & been quickly switching between them all trying to over load the system.
Nothing will freeze or reboot my XOOM 2.
What I can get from this is that the Xoom 2 works perfectly.
With the high CPU set, it is so fluid and lag free. It works almost perfectly now. It also means the hardware is absolutely fine.
Maybe with newer firmware updates in the future this will be sorted naturally.
I makes me think something with the high CPU means a bug in the processing won’t make the Xoom freeze & reboot.
Until then this method works for me and I can’t see why it won’t work for you.
If you are having this issue I hope this helps.
I messaged you on the Motorola Forums, but I think they may take it down since they don't like talks about rooting.
But thanks for posting this, I will give it a shot.
When you changed to performance 1200 min/1200 max - I'm guessing you also checked set on boot? right?
Yes i ticked set on boot. Make sure you have a screen off profile otherwise it will be running at max all the time.
Hope it works for you.

Hi,
I froze some bloat before and uninstalled flash 10.3 cause flash streaming online videos didn't work 4 me (neither 10,3 or 11,x), then installed flash 10.2 and all starts to work ok but still 2 or 3 reboots for week.
Also seems that "memory booster" app helps when some apps starts to freeze and u can finish em and free some mem.
So now i'm trying setcpu and then i will do launcher trick
Thx a lot!
Vanpeebles, Did you switch launchers because you think it will help the reboots? or because of personal preference?
List of frozen apps
List of frozen apps 2 months ago without issues:
App used: Ultimate Backup
Amazon Kindle (I dont use it)
Citrix Receiver
Drippler Motorola DROID Xyboard 8.2
Drive
Fuze Meeting
Google+
GoToMeeting
Servicios de estadisticas de dispositivo ("Device statistics Services")
Twonky
Good luck everybody!
Now i'm not expecting ICS, this is working almost perfect. Let's see setcpu improve.
It does seem that the source of the freezing/reboots is the Motorola Launcher. Since I switched to Go Launcher HD I've definitely seen less freezes.
Hi
I switched launcher on personal preference but to be fair I have had no freezes now for 5 days
So I'm not messing now if it ain't broke.
The reason is I did this is I read 1 post on another forum that someone changed launcher &, this helped him.
So wether launcher or high cpu I'm not bothered
To finally have a working tablet is such a huge relief!

Also add this warning. Do NOT remove the Launcher2 app if you do then your Xoom 2 will never boot again and the is no current way to fix this because of the locked bootloader.

That's my question, why do you even need to freeze the stock launcher if you've set adwlauncher as the default.. like what's the point of that step of freezing the stock launcher, it shouldn't impact performance.

No he is right, because the stock launcher takes a big bite out of your RAM around 100MB. And even if you do have another launcher running that stock launcher always seems to be in the background on my tablet.

Yeah but won't freezing the launcher (or changing its name to launcher2.apk.bak) cause problems if your tablet faces a failure and the adwlauncher crashes?
EDIT: I guess titanium backup unfreezes apps if you do a wipe so the best option is to freeze the stock launcher (NOT uninstall it and NOT rename it)

Over 1 week now and not 1 reboot.
I can't answer these questions on the launcher?
All I know is this works for me, I have had not 1 freeze or reboot, so the stock launcher can stay frozen.
(it may have absolutely nothing to do with it, but I really don't care)
Hi after several days over GO Laucher EX (or HD "Tablet version but less customizable") with Setcpu 1200 1200 performance and etc....
only 1 reboot when several web pages were opened on stock browser with flash videos etc.
I've noticed that now when apps stops to work it goes back to home instead of reboot except that time.
Almost no free ram and that's seems to be the clue..Stock launcher doesn´t free enought memory
And battery drains suddenly stopped.
Super happy man . More fluid launcher, more customizable, and also wifi starts to work better when comes back from sleeping
Thanks for not to give up!
Have to say... this solution seems to be working very well. I'm running set CPU in conjunction with auto memory manager set to "aggressive" and AdwLauncher Ex!
Using many apps that in the past would give me reboots, but now they are working flawlessly.
Thank you very much for this awesome contribution!

I'm Xoom 1 user and also having annoying reboots you described here. Most of all it happens when watching movies or iptv in player.
But isn't setting cpu frequency to 1200min will force cpu run at 1200 not less all the time? It probably may overheat the cpu and sounds dangerous.

When its in use yes, but you also set a second profile to turn down the cpu to a lower value when the screen turns off so you don't drain battery and cause overheating!
So far - I'm running this method without any problems, no noticeable battery drain or extra heat in anyway!

I'm currently running on stock kernel without ability to scale over 1000. Tried to set to performance governor only, but failed and got regular reboot during usage. Will try your method.
Seems to be it's operating system problem. Don't understand why motorola still didn't resolved it, including that fact that problem also present in first Xoom model.
Worked a bit around with your solutions and stabled on the following:
Stock launcher frozen;
SetCPU profiles:
Screen ON/unlocked: Governor OnDemand (1200-800) with Noop Scheduler
Screen OFF: Governor standard hotplug (800-300) with noop scheduler
It looks like moto_hotplug governor doesn't work quite well but I also noticed some glitches on systemui.apk. Whenever you turn your screen on and unlock doesn't show smooth you must turn off screen and try again... if you unlock with a laggy unlocker the whole system will be a mess.
With those setting I'm not having reboots, just some lags here and there; battey, however, lasts much less due to ondemand governor.
Hi all,
Is there some kind of RAM test app (like memtest x86 for Windows/DOS) for the Note 3 / Android devices ?
Lately my Note 3 started to reboot out of the blue, many 'xxxx has stopped' errors.
I was still on 4.2 stock (root) so I decided to upgrade to an custom KK ROM.
The usual 5 mins to leave the phone alone was not enough, immediate freezes. It seemed that removing the battery and putting it back in fixes it for a few mins but then I get the same freeze.
Nothing responds and the area around the camera gets hot. So I tried the stock ROM and various other custom ROMS and recovery's. Nothing helped, exactly the same, freeze within minutes.
So I did a cpu stress test, that went fine CPU temperature was also normal, but still it felt hot around the camera. Bootloader was up to date.
So in the store they told me it could be the RAM. They also told me that they saw I tried an custom ROM and I lost my warranty. I reminded them of the non-conformity in Europe and they quickly changed their judgement.
They said 3 weeks at most before I get it back...
Now I've got an nice Nokia 206 Blue
But to get back at my question: Is there is any app to test the RAM? And has anyone else experienced these kind of problems?
stability test from play store may help you. also check check 3c toolbox, it does not have proper memory test, at least I didn't see one, but it has about 60, probably more, different utilities, like system and kernel logs, sd memory speed test, device recorder, cpu temp monitor etc.
if the area around camera is getting hot, maybe that's the problem? if the cores get stock at full speed, they would overheat, start thermal throttling and then errors would start showing up.
same problem
I have the same problem with my note 3 LTE, is there any solution?

Hi guys,
I ordered a GNote 3 and I'm really excited. But I read a lot of stories about the lollipop really buggy, memory leak, and battery drain. But I don't see many comments about these in the ROM thread, and someone mentioned that they like Stock lollipop better than CM12. Does this mean stock lollipop for Exynos is working fine? I don't have the device yet, so I have no way to try out yet myself, but I plan to flash my desired ROM right away when I get the phone. It could be one of the TW lolliop ROMs or CM12.
Just a note that I would love to run lollipop, and not kitkat. So could you please advise around that? Are there tweak that people use to fix the issues?
Thanks!
Hello!
Right now I have over a month testing the stock LP ROM on an exinos device, it has been quite a good experience, the ROM is very responsive, and although it has a huge memory leak (I have found my device running on RAM as high as 85% with no running apps, just running the processes needed for the OS to run) nevertheless I can harddly notice any lag n the system, I use Clan Master to monitor RAM usage, when I find my device I use the clean now feature, and the RAM usage goes back to around 60-65%.
On the battery subject I run my Note 3 paired via bluetooth with a Gear S, and I am getting between 20 to 24 hrs. Of continuos use, so taking into account I am always running with bluetooth on, I think I am getting a pretty decent usage time, I would like to let you know that I mustly connect to the internet via WIFI, only use Celllular Data when driving or in places where there is no WIFI available.
After installing LP ROM I went straight to rooting my device and installing Titanium Backup in order to be able to debloat, I have managed to uninstall APK that I found useless for me, and got rid of them, also I use Greenify and I have greenifyed every app not essential, I also use Startup Manager ( Free) to get control over what apks startsup.
Finally, I use tasker to get control over how my device handles the changes between Cell Data and WIFI.
I hope you find this information useful, and please excuse my english!
Hi All, I have purchased a Mi phone for the first time ever – the Redmi Note 6 pro. The hardware specs are amazing and so is the quality of the hardware, but the MIUI is just too pathetic.
I was earlier using a Moto G4 plus running on Android Nougat 7. I wonder why anyone has to build a skin above Android, which runs so well!
I feel I have actually been downgraded by switching to Redmi Note 6 instead of getting an upgrade! Basic functions as listed below are missing in MIUI 10 compared to my good old G4 Plus:
1. Does not have a section for frequently called contacts (have to save nos. on speed dial and remember them like old days)
2. Not able to easily block calls – in my G4 plus, I could simply long press the contact and block it, now I have to go to settings and block contact… such a long process
3. Above blocking of contacts is complicated for SMS also unlike my G4 plus
4. There is no cast icon (screen mirroring) in the notification slider – have to go in to settings to do so
5. Not able to set separate ringtones for each app like GMail, my office email, etc (this could be done in MIUI 9 – checked on my friend’s Redmi Note 4)
6. My employer provides me VMWare boxer as the enterprise email client, it vibrates when new email arrives but does not play notification sound. Furthermore, although the app allows changing the ringtone, on trying to do so the phone nothing happens
7. Notification icons are not appearing on the top left corner of the screen
8. Does not display no internet on wifi, phone just automatically switches to Data – but I cannot keep checking whether my phone is on wifi or data all the time (in G4 plus, it used to indicate no internet on wifi with an exclamation symbol on the wifi icon in the notification bar)
9. Quick charge 3.0 takes 2 hours to charge the phone to 100%. The G4 plus, although with a smaller battery of 3000mAH used to charge in approximately 50 mins, why should 1000mAH more take almost 1 hour more?
10. Vodafone VoLTE is not support on this latest device.
In the last week I have spent hours browsing forums understanding how to fix issues or find alternative ways to work out. I never had to do so for my G4 plus.
I really regret the decision of buying a Xiaomi device and I wish I could go into the past and revert my decision and would have rather brought Nokia 6.1 puls, Moto One power or the Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1… wonder why I brought the Redmi note 6 pro…
The forums have so many users who are very helpful and thanks to them I am able to use the phone. But, why should I browse forums for such basic issues after investing so much money in a new phone which was supposed to be an upgrade?
Since I have criticized the phone so much, I would also like to mention the reasons I brought this phone and the advantages of this phone over my G4 plus:
1. Significantly better camera, actually excellent camera
2. Almost full view screen with a good screen size
3. Hardware is good hence the phone is faster
4. Very good battery life
These are all in terms of hardware, I wish the software was robust as well. I can’t even root the phone or use custom roms as my enterprise apps will not work them. So, now I am stuck with this phone hoping that someday updates will resolve the basic issues I need….
keep going on motorola.
waiy for a few days.. maybe stable GSI starts to roll and u can flash custom roms
Well that´s your opinion and I respect it. But you are mentioning issues related to MIUI and not exactly exclusives to this device. I think you should have done a little research on MIUI to know if you´ll like it before.
Also you can wait for the development of custom ROMs with closer experience to pure Android .

Have you tried Magisk (systemless root) and Magisk hide per app settings?
Quick Charge
Quick Charge 3.0 is working fast for me, try changing the charging with the 12v/1.5A. My redmi note 6 pro charges in less than 1:30hrs.
1. Download and use the Google Phone App (working on my Pocophone, should work on this phone too):

9. Are you using the included charger? I read that the included charger only supports 10W, not full QC 3.0 speeds. You need to buy a separate QC 3.0 charger if you don't have one.
10. Can't help.
I hope this helps a bit! I had some issues with MIUI on my Pocophone too, but doing the above made the experience great for me, and now I am enjoying MIUI overall!
4- install quick settings app from playstore.

Enable toggles you want inside app.. Then You can find them in more option in quick setting area.

Hello,
Thanks a lot for your help... I have also been searching for workarounds for quite sometime..
For 1. Did install google phone but sadly that does not display call log dont know for what reason - so I have created contact shortcuts on my home screen
2,3 Did as u suggested thanks again!
4 - no solution
5,6 - have rolled back to MIUI 9.6 wherein there are inbuilt options to set separate ringtones for all apps and my enterprise apps are also playing notifications correctly - alternatively u can also use the app notification manager pro
7. If u use latest MIUI 10, u can see notification icons for few seconds on unlocking ur screen - cant fix this as now I m on MIUI 9.6
8. will work only if u scroll down notification bar (not a good option though) - does show the exclamation mark when wifi is not working
9. I have a QC 3.0 charger which takes 2 hrs to fully charge the phone fully... cant do anything about this
10. VoLTE is now working - i also raised a complaint with vodafone to sort this out
I have realised that MIUI 9,6 was much stabler and rolled back to it... so the phone is much better now compared to MIUI 10

Buy this Charger for Quick Charge it supports Quick Charge 3.0 support with 24 Months warranty, I am using it from 2 years. It is the best charger. Price is a bit high from other charger as it is imported, but quality is definitely good. Link:
