Defect or feature? (Power Button) - LG G6 Questions and Answers

So, my first G6 was defective as it wouldn't let me charge the phone as I kept getting moisture warnings. I was able to swap it out and get a new unit as it was only 10 days old, but having used this unit for about a week, I noticed that the power button is a little weird. The finger print sensor works to power on the phone perfectly, but to turn the screen off, I have to either press my button pretty hard, or right in the center. An edge press won't register of pressed softly, even though it "clicks".
Can you please rest your devices to see if it does this as well? I thought that perhaps it's a feature to prevent accidentally clicking, but can't recall my first defective unit doing this. If this one is defective too, I'm really starting to question LG's QC.

Mine does that too. It's probably because of the water resistant seal.

I guess that's good to know. I can probably get used to it.

It is the design of the phone, so yours is not defective. The seal and the fingerprint sensor probably have something to do with it. I actually didn't notice until you mentioned it, but I have fat fingers so I had to go out of my way to push just the edge, especially with a case on it.

I can push my button anywhere and it locks. I used my nail to get the furthest to the edge as I can and it locked

Mine actually locks with less force of I click on the edge of the button.

4 day old transformer - crippled power button

Man, I was so happy with my transformer, but now it's crippled. The power button has a bit of side-to-side movement, and it got stuck in the down position. Now, it's acting weird since it doesn't really pop back out. It's like one side of the power button is stuck in the down position. I can't turn it on reliably, and can't turn it off reliably.
I think that left side bezel creek effected the button. The extra give on the bezel somehow interfere with the button push.
Stinks! It's 4 days old. I got it from Tiger Direct via ebay, so we'll see if I can return it. I was so happy with it, thinking I got a good one. I'm not sure what to do now, whether I'll get another Asus in a bit or get a Samsung Tab or iPad...
I can live with some flaws like light bleed, or even poppy speakers...but not being able to turn it on/off is kinda sucky. I saw someone else also had this problem:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1088241
So...just thought I make a post to balance my glowing post about the initial impression.
I'm not sure what to do. Since the power button is stuck down, it down seems to randomly/constantly turn itself on. And then sometimes it stays off for a little while, but then turns itself back on...
Should I keep it on the charger, or let the battery drain? I'm going to RMA it tomorrow (I can't send it out today)...but I'm not sure what to do in the mean time.

Sticky home button

Just today my home button started getting sticky. it clicks two times instead of one. Has anyone experiwnced similar issues with their s4?

Maybe it got dirty with something sticky you held before using the phone Try cleaning it and see if it still happens.
Mine has gone sticky as well. It only registers one click, but it needs more force to push in, and it gives with an audible clicky noise. It also feels slow in the 'release'. Considering getting it fixed.
started happening to me yesterday (14 days of use), and the home button is also sticky, but only on the left side. if I press the button in the center or on the right side, the click is normal. pressing on left side I can feel 2 levels on the click.
any way to fix this? feels like broken.
Nobody?
Mine started to get sticky too. I think it has something to do with the microUSB port. Try inserting the microUSB cable and shifting the port up and down.
Sticking Home Button
i have this issue as well, sent mine to service center, hope they fix it or replace the unit.
I think it is a design issue, we users might have pressed it harder than usual, which tear up something that holds the home button (Since it is elongated) on both ends. and if you notice, it is no longer protruding (a litttle), it is aligned with the screen.
I think in the long run, more users will report this issue, i had mine for only just 2 weeks, variant GT-9505 black
By any chance any of you have installed pxxxtube? LMFAO
Sticky Button = Replaced screen
hi guys,
sent mine into Samsung Service center, and although i complain of a wobbly home button, they have replace the LCD, since according them the two are connected.
I had the same issue and was able to fix it by doing the following. Put a small amount of water on your fingertip and rub the home button and surrounding areas with it (you may want to do this with phone off). Use the corner of a piece of paper and go around the home button, in between the gap. This soaks up the excess water and cleans the gap. I think what happens is that we get something sticky in there, like juice or soda.

Thanks, I actually fixed mine
Using onscreen buttons, launcher with gestures and alternative apps available on playstore really helps not to stress home buttons.
Samsung should remove this physical home button on next galaxy series.

automatic screen shut off

So I've browsed around and there are plenty of screen issues, but I haven't seen the one I'm experiencing nor have I seen a solution. When I press the power button my screen comes on and turns off right away. Sometimes a few seconds after I hit the power button sometimes even longer. Most times I won't even be able to put in my security pin to unlock the phone. I see people saying Verizon will do an update soon but that isn't good enough considering I can't use the phone. I did find a loop hole to this problem. Quick start the camera with the volume down button then press the home button after the camera loads and it won't shut off by itself. I thought I'd post this method up for others having this frustration.
If this particular problem has been discussed and beaten to death then the mods can close the thread.
I've got a YouTube link but I don't have 10 posts to show you. Search for user name "vfreeza" and it is the only video I've uploaded. You'll see my first time turning the screen on was using the quick camera method and the times after is with just the power button. The screen turns off without even my hand touching the phone.
don't cover the sensor on the upper left hand side
Yup I read that too. My fingers rest at the corners of the phone and I've tried the not cover sensor thing as well, makes no difference.
Wish I could disable the sensor. I hate this problem

Just a quick update. I bought a Diztronic tpu case and the moment I put it on all the problems went away. Screen acted nornal and knock works. My guess is without the case my hand is making some kind of connection it shouldn't be when I'm holding it without a case.

Did your old case hug the bezels tight? because it tends to mess with the digitizer perhaps the incipio feather case? or a plastic case of some sort? just curious im pretty sure that was your problem cause if you barely press on the screen youll notice waves in the lcd screen and since the bezels are so small on this device some cases can do that.

thats extremely odd but im glad you got it fixed!
Thanks! This case is never coming off! haha
My phone has that very problem and it's driving me insane.. i love this phone, but it truly is a hassel to use it after its been idle for awhile.. or at night... hands no where near the sensor or anything, it could be laying straight up or down n itll still have that problem.. thanks for reading.
I normally just wipe the sensor area, n it magically starts working again.. n i don't touch it, n the problem comes back after awhile....
Also naked phone besides screen protector, but it's not covering up the sensor.
My phone does the same thing. It's so ****ing annoying.

S6Edge+ cracked screen, wake up problems

i have a S6 Edge+ and its got a cracked screen. it has a big black spot the size of a fingertip on the right middle like something stabbed it maybe.
sometimes when i got to wake it up, phone is on and i press the power button the lights on the bottom come on, the cascade window button and the back button............but the screen does not light up. it kind of flickers and i see the permanent damaged part, a green strip down the right side of screen but does not turn on.
sometimes i have to press the power button to wake up and put to sleep 6 or 10 times for the screen to light up.
my question:
do you think this is simply from the screen being damaged.
have you seen anything like this before on a phone
do you think if i spend the money to fix the screen this issue will be fixed?

Yes.
Yes, on my son's Xperia Z5 Compact. He hadn't dropped it or damaged it in any way - just happened.

Fixed by Sony, phone is insured.
Yes, take it to Samsung store to repairing.
Ok, I have booted into safe mode and the problem does not exist. this means its a sofware issue, obviously. Here is the dilemma, I have done factory and hard resets to include the cache partition. How might i go about fixing this issue until they release a new update from android 5.1.1???
Can anybody tell me what core we use to put the touchwiz snappier, I saw one one topic but I can't find it now. We only have to put the code and the phone was so quick like the day we Unbox the phone. Thanks

this is my second Note 4, and has the same problem, random apps openly randomly

First phone had the camera problem, so I had it replaced, but both phones open apps that are not on the screen whenever I pick up the phone or put it down. I hold the phone on its sides, I do not accidentally touch the screen, I do not touch the buttons on either side, and even if I did, the app that opens will always be an app that is not on the screen I have touched. This is obviously some weird Note 4 problem, since both phones have done it and both phones did not even have the same apps installed, it seems to involve the way I hold the phone; holding it in my hand by the sides and walking around with it will sometimes open an app also, but mostly when I either pick it up or put it down, again fingers not touching anything but the sides of the phone, and not the buttons on the sides of the phone either, the only way I can avoid this is to black the screen with the right side button before I put the phone down or in my bag, as otherwise it will open a random app. I think I have gone on long enough to describe this situation, so does anyone have any ideas??

thanks for the info.
Have you check the Notification Panel to see if you have Touch Sensitivity enabled?
thanks for the reply, no, I didn't enable that on either phone.
Just wanted to share: I've had the same happen to me. On one occasion, my phone uploaded and sent pictures to one of my contact as I was was watching. I immediately suspected something nefarious. When I came across this post, I had to share.
I'd recommend that you remove the screen protector from your device if you use one, and see if that helps.
haha bruce lee roy, and to iceepyon, yes I had a glass screen protector on the first phone, but nothing on this one as I want it to break accidentally so I have to buy something new, but again both phones have the same behaviour with and without any screen protector. Really, nobody has had this problem at all with a Note 4 besides me?
