Right, so I recently just heard of this thing that mounts(?) an ext partition of your sdcard to the /data partition, meaning, instead of a lousy 400 MB, I could have 8 or16 GB for apps and data, wouldn't that be amazing?

Link2sd from the market is what i use. Only tried 1gb as second partion on my play, made it 16gb on my sony tablet. I think you gaim more ram and speed things up this way and i have not noticed any slow down becase of the card. It is really great

I think what the OP is mentioning is Mounting the sd-ext AS the data partition. That way there's no 3rd party app to mess up (I've had Link2SD silently crash and accidentally get the low space warning twice). With sd-ext mounted as the data partition then you're not relying on an app running in the background monitoring app installs and then linking them to the sd card.
I believe it could be done, but I don't know the equivalent of fstab editing in android.

Yes, it's amazing and even better possible! I've achieved it on your DarkForest RC2 with DoomKernel.
- Partition your sdcard so that ext4 is the second primary partition
- Flash the zip in CWM.
- In a terminal emulator type: data2ext --enable
- With Root explorer go to system/etc/init.d and open 40data2ext
- Edit PATH=/system/xbin:/system/bin to PATH=/system/xbin:/system/bin:/sbin
- Reboot, you will have no signal
- Reboot in CWM and fix permissions.
- Now with signal enjoy your large internal memory.
The script was made for HTC Legend. Here the original thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=902395
Possible on a stock rom running DoomKernel?

On the root of the device there's a fstab and a recovery.fstab.
fstab
/data yaffs2 userdata
/cache yaffs2 cache
recovery.fstab
# mount point fstype device [device2] fstype2
/cache yaffs2 cache
/data yaffs2 userdata
/system yaffs2 system
/sdcard vfat /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
/sd-ext auto /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Seems like if you can format the mmcblk0p2 to yaffs2 you can set data to it. I'd be hesitant to move the data partition unless I can format sd-ext to match. I'll try it sometime but my folks are in this weekend.

I'm using the Link2SD as well. I just shrunk my FAT32 partition on my SD card, created an ext2 partition about 1gig. Link2SD mounted it up, and I'm able to "Link" the apps Data, Lib and Dex files to the new 1gig partition, or leave them local. I even moved Map and the 9mb from QuickOffice Pro that I couldn't move with the normal App2SD. I'm using the signed Sony Ericsson rom that is posted on these forums somewhere. I can't find the forum post to it lately. My boot loader is also locked but I am rooted. No updated kernel unless the Sony rom did it.
Is Is Ext3 or Ext4 Partition for S3-Evolution-Beta3.1-Ultimate rom for galaxy ace s5830?
This is the post where they have mentioned it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1775257
Do we need Ext3 or Ext4 Partition for S3-Evolution-Beta3 ultimate only or we need it for S3-Evolution-Beta3.1 as well. Just to be sure in this case. Is it compulsory for S3-Evolution-Beta3.1 or we can do the normal wipe data and partition and install it from zip.
Hello there.
I am currently running Android 5.0 LP (AllianceROM v9.1.1) on my rooted SGs5 klte G900F using TWRP and 64GB Samsung EVO MicroSDCard.
I just recently ran into some issues and wiped everything and reinstalled Alliance and started anew. B4 this happened i had partitioned my extSDcard and had Link2SD app and mounted my 2nd partition as ext4 and everythijg was fine. I researched about RAM swap so and Multi System Virtual Rom so ibwent ahead and wiped my extSDcard and Repartioned it With a 3rd n 4th partition.
1st partition: 44GB FAT32 for pics, Music ect.
2nd partition: 6GB SWAP for RAM
3rd partition: 6GB EXT4 for Link2SD
4th Partition: 9GB FAT32 for Multi System
I Just mounted my 2nd partition for SWAP and is working.
However i just opwned LINK2SD PRO and did as i did before and attemoted to mount scripts to ext4 and reboot and now i get an error saying Unable to mount: Invalid Arguement...
IF ANYONE CAN plz help me oit with this id greatly appreciate it as i have no clue what to do from here. Thank you for your time.
Hi,
I'm trying convert Data and Cache partition from ext4 to f2fs.
I backup data and restore by TWRP after format data as f2fs.
But when I reboot it get bootloop after show homescreen.
I try other ROM/Kernel support f2fs and format data again but still got bootloop.
Does anyone know this problem?
Thanks
I've unlocked my new MI9T to install xiaomi.eu rom.
First of all, after unlock, i've installed the official TWRP and i've formatted (not wiped) the DATA partition.
I've noticed that TWRP logged that it was formatting the DATA partition with mkfs.f2fs ...... really strange...
So, i've rebooted to TWRP and changed the DATA partition type to EXT4 and formatted it... after a reboot i've tried to format it again and it was formatted again in F2FS (like F2FS was the default selection).
So i've tried to switch to OrangeFox recovery (i suspected a bug in TWRP)... but the same behaviour...seems that F2FS is the default partition type for my DATA partition.
I've installed the xiaomi.eu (the kernel in this rom is the official one, and i dont think that it supports F2FS) and the rom boot ok, without problems.
I've tried also to force ext4 on DATA, but with this partition type the rom never boot (it remains on the android bootanimation).
So right now, i see a f2fs partition type on my data partition, with original kernel.
I've tried also to change the cache partition to f2fs (by default this partition is formatted in ext4) but in this way, the rom boots, but i can't see the cache partition, seems that effectively the kernel can't mount the cache partition.
so i've unpacked the official miui_DAVINCIEEAGlobal_V11.0.4.0.QFJEUXM_5001481fbb_10.0 rom, and i've found that in the vendor partition, under (vendor)/etc/fstab.qcom there is this entry for DATA partition:
Code:
/dev/block/bootdevice/by-name/userdata /data [B]f2fs [/B]noatime,nosuid,nodev,nodiscard,fsync_mode=nobarrier,reserve_root=32768,resgid=1065 wait,check,fileencryption=ice,wrappedkey,quota,reservedsize=128M,latemount
So, this phone uses by default a F2FS partition type for DATA????

Yes - stock QFJEUXM 11.0.4, never formatted (or wiped) Data, see screenshot from /vendor/etc/fstab.qcom
