LG V20 US996 Network Unlocked Cannot go into Recovery Mode - LG V20 Questions & Answers

I am trying to root LG V20 US996 Network unlocked by following all the instruction step by step, everything is good from unlocking bootloader to installing TWRP recovery but I cannot boot into recovery mode at all. I did many attempts. Does anyone have any idea? Here is the screenshot of recovery installation. Did I miss anything here?

After flash TWRP, you need to turn off the phone, after that hold Vol - and power button at same time untill logo LG appear, release power button and push once more, device will go to factory reset, yes two times, your device will reboot and go to TWRP.

Thank you so much but I was able to root and install TWRP and Supersu successfully before I read your post. You are exactly right, I did what you said. Device had to go into factory reset, click "yes" and I had to install "supersu" zip by doing adb sideload. Once again, thank you very much for your input and most valuable time. I really appreciate that.
Best regards,

I assume you're following directions from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61710456&postcount=1304
If so, I see a couple issues. You did not update TWRP to 2.8.7.1 as indicated, and why are you flashing from USB OTG always copy to your internal memory. You likely can get back to recovery, but it takes timing and patience. I've been in the same situation before. Just an FYI we call a cyclic restart a bootloop.
While it's doing the startup hold the power button until it powers off, it will restart again after. So here's the trick as soon as the screen shuts off you have to let go of the power button and immediately do the vol down power button combo, hold them both until recovery starts. If held too long it will reboot again. Like I said timing is everything, but you should be able to get it with patience. Good luck!
You did not use latest TWRP and you did not flash LP bootstack. Go to recovery, delete system, data, cache, flash latest TWRP, then flash LP bootstack, then Cloudy again
To enter recovery, press power+volume down, hold until you see LG logo, then FAST press power+vol down again, white screen will show up asking to factory reset. press power button, then press power button again. phone will enter recovery.

1. Hold Power on Lg logo
2. When the screen shuts off:release power button and quickly push Volume+Power on the some period?
One time i seen screen with proposal of erase system, i pushed Yes...and now it rebooting again. And some time it was button hardware assignments screen.

You can flash latest TWRP and LP bootstack in TWRP. They are both ZIP files so it will work. I would give you links but i'm not sure which G2 variant you have

thanks, but first of all - i can not enter to recovery mode, ordinary button combination do not work. As i wrote before.
If you really can't enter recovery you'll have to "KDZ".
Look over there: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2797190
Find the appropriate rom.kdz, flash it with the tool.
If this worked, root stock LP, Autorec v2 it, enter recovery with key combination or if this fails with tools like "Quick Reboot" from play store.
DO NOT FORGET to wipe system, data, caches and to flash an appropriate stack, then flash rom, gapps and supersu. You can do this in one step.
If you want to shut down your phone, just press POWER for around 10s. Do not flash with battery under 50%.
You may find SRKTool useful.
Try entering download mode and flashing stock rom through KDZ or TOT method. There is a thread called "G2 go back to stock" in G2 General you will find all instructions there
tip: disconnect usb devices like usb wifi dongle, web camera and external hdd, they used to cause me problems when flashing KDZ

lg v20 h918 twrp bootloop

so I was having some battery issues and wanted to reset. i for some reason went to settings reset instead of booting to twrp to reset. nonetheless it booted to twrp. I wanted an all the way clean data install so I hit format data and rebooted. now it just keeps booting into twrp. i restored a backup which sys successful but it still goes back to twrp. I can get into fastboot, recoveery. and download mode. I just cant boot into the system.. any help would be appreciated. with no kdz available I dont know what to do..
EDIT FIXED: so apparently you cannot boot to twrp to reset from the factory reset screen on the phone. once I booted to twrp manually and rebooted it started up. really weird.
having same issue with us996 now cant boot to system followed root instructions to factory reset now i cant boot to anything other than twrp whats the button combo and chould u provide detailed instructions please?

Press power and volume down at same time. When lg logo appears realeasw the power button for 1 sec and repress. Then when you get to the all white reset screen press yes and yes again on the next screen. This will get you back into twrp. You might need to reflash the recovery img(not sure, but I did). Restore your backup or whatever and then reboot system. Might have to format data within twrp prior to restore. Think I did that too.
pretty sure im screwed until a rom is released i tried what you said i chouldnt get a white screen to appear still went to twrp directly and it seems i accidently deleted my restore point >< can h918 flash on us996? even though its tmobile?
so i got it booting but it keeps rebooting after a getting to home screen a notification pops up and says android is upgrading when finished it reboots

For reasons I'll never understand, I ended up in this situation with my H918 after doing an accidental factory reset (tried entering TWRP but TWRP wasn't installed... oops!) and re-rooting. After installing TWRP 3.0.2-1, I was completely unable to boot to system. I tried reflashing various stock partitions and a custom ROM, relocked and unlocked the bootloader a few times, and wiped/formatted/reparitioned the crap out of the poor thing. In the end, the only thing that worked was to flash TWRP a second time. Go figure.
Thanks for being so thorough in describing what you tried on the road to success!
I keep getting sent to twrp. Not sure how to fix it. I can't boot android. Have tried reinstalling roms. nothing working.
when i use button combo to boot into twrp it go to twrp then starts to boot up phone and sits at lg logo after i tried restore a backup. even after factory reset it loads 100% but never boots up

since you're having this problem with TWRP , it means you've rooted the phone right?
asking cz i'm looking to get the LG V20 but don't know about the risk of it bootlooping itself, without rooting or anything like that, like it used
to happen on lg g4 and g3.
Thank you

You most likely don't need to go through all of those hoops in the link above.
Have you tried power on and volume down to go through the factory reset screens.
A bunch of us had this problem and it was because an update downloaded on it's own and the bootloader snoops it out and forces recovery to boot.
Just do the volume down + power button - as soon as you see the lg logo release power only then immediately re-press power and continue holding power and volume down until the factory reset screen pops up. Select yes and yes, (don't worry - if you have twrp recovery it can't reset). It will boot you into TWRP and I'm pretty sure it will delete the update files in fota folder.
In TWRP select reboot - system and it should boot normally like nothing happened.

Cant boot into TWRP

Hello, ive unlocked my bootloader on my h870 and ive flashed twrp. when ive just flashed it i was able to boot into twrp but now everytime i try to boot into it it wil wipe all my data with the stock lg recovery mode can someoneone please help me? Thanks! Just got the phone a few hours ago
You have to install a custom rom or root to make twrp permanent, if you don't do that it will install always after the first boot the stock recovery.

When you have flashed twrp, you do the buton combination to enter twrp, if you fail to enter twrp a the phone boots into system the stock recovery will be reflashed so you have to reflash twrp.
Try making these:
When you are in the bootloader after flashing twrp press button down+ power button. When the screen turns off quickly stop pressing power button and quickly press again until the lg logo appear.
When the lg logo appear stop pressing power button, quickly press again and stop pressing the power button and press again quickly until you see twrp logo.
These method works for me for booting twrp easily
The stock recovery appears but you have to select the factory reset option and it will boot into TWRP

Unfortunately still not succeeded after trying all the solutions i've found here
Hey, i have the same Problem, my TWRP broke, i can't boot into recovery and my Device ist not listed in fastboot mode. Can someone help me out?
I get the ring in windows when i plugin but its not recognizing.. Can someone pls help me out?
Okay, I'm going to try to explain it, and see if I can succeed where others have not.
You install TWRP by booting to bootloader and using fastboot to push a new recovery:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
It seems like you accomplished that successfully. The next step is to immediately boot to recovery; do not boot the phone to system first. You will get the factory prompts for wiping data, but it will not actually wipe your data this time. Instead it will boot to TWRP.
Now, while you are in TWRP, you need to either root (flash Magisk) or install a custom ROM. If you do not, your next boot to system will remove TWRP and restore the stock recovery. If that happens, then the data-wiping prompts the next time you boot to recovery are real and the phone will wipe. So you MUST - must must must - root or install a custom ROM while you have TWRP up, in order for TWRP to persist.
If you have already experienced this problem, you need to start over at the beginning; flash TWRP again, and then follow the rest of these directions.
Maybe this will help clear up the problem for you guys.

With 3.2.1.0, 3.2.2.0 and 3.2.3.0 it only briefly shows the TWRP screen and then boots into system anyway.
With 3.1.1.0 the key combination to boot into TWRP as with the other versions above simply doesn't work, again it directly boots into system without even showing the TWRP screen.
I'm stuck with a resetted phone because of this bull****, because some instructions said "oh, the reset dialog will not really reset your data..." - yeah thanks for nothing, buddy.
So what now?
EDIT: I got it working using TWRP 3.1.1.0, but the same version from the OFFICIAL site didn't work, as I described above.
The only 3.1.1.0 TWRP that works with my phone is the one from this Link: http://downloads.codefi.re/rashed/g6/
(which is linked ... somewhere here in the Forum, don't remember which thread)

Not booting into TWRP

Hey everyone,
I decided to root my lg g6 and got a fickle. After unlocking the device and flashing TWRP I tried to boot into it (''adb reboot recovery'' command) and it deleted all data and then twrp shows on screen for a split second and almost instantly boots normally into android so I set it up while still being unable to access twrp and any of it's functions. Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem?
P.S. Of it helps: before that i had a problem that every time I tried to use the ''adb reboot recovery'' command the console said ''no devices/emulators found''. After a couple tries I wanted to check whether the phone was connected just to make sure (''adb devices'') and after that it worked and I ran into the problem above.
Thanks for all the answers
When you first unlock BL and flash recovery you have to manually enter recovery mode.
Hold power and vol down till it turns off. Hold same buttons again until you see lg logo. Release power and press and hold again.
Then ask you to wipe etc hit yes both times and it will boot to twrp.
I tried that but it still doesn't go into twrp. After confirming that wipe stuff it just boots into android (without wiping)

You have to flash TWRP recovery and when it complete then use the button combo to boot into twrp, otherwise it will boot and restore the recovery.
flash twrp
button combo to twrp
done
Yes I've done that but the problem still exist.
btw thanks for the help
Maybe try fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Try the all-in-one tool on this forum
By the way, I am running into the same issue.. I have a LG G6 US997,.. I have tried installing TWRP unofficial ones so many times and every time i manually try to access the recovery.. the phone simply wipes all my data to default
Hello,
I have the same problem. Did anyone figure out how to solve it? I'd highly appreciate any help.
If I try to boot into recovery, it asks me to factory reset, i hit yes twice and then the phone just goes on to boot normally. The data is not wiped but I can't get into TWRP.
If I enter "fastboot reboot recovery" after flashing TWRP it returns "fastboot: usage: unknown reboot target recovery"

[Help] LS997 DirtySanta Stuck at Secure Startup

LS997 (September 2016 security patch), got to the end of root and couldn't reboot into TWRP recovery. The device is recognized in ADB while in fastboot but when I'm at the secure startup it's unrecognized, like USB debugging is disabled.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-root-twrp-lg-v20-using-dirtysanta-t3722278
If you've hit secure startup the phone has likely booted into regular Android far enough to replace twrp with stock recovery. Reboot into fastboot and reflash twrp (you can use the newest twrp if you want). Once done flashing unplug from PC and pull the battery. Reinsert the battery then boot into twrp via the factory reset/volume button method: hold volume down, press power until the screen turns on then (still holding vol - ) tap power repeatedly until a prompt to factory reset appears. Approving it twice boots twrp if it's installed, otherwise stock recovery will do the reset.
Once in twrp go to wipe, then format data (type yes to confirm), then go to reboot, then recovery. Once twrp restarts flash your choice of magisk/supersu.
Once one of those two is installed it makes it so twrp won't be replaced.

Did this, got to the set-up screen (languages, accessibility) and an error ¨com.android.phone has stopped¨ spammed the screen. I tap ¨stop app¨ and the pop-up comes back immediately.
I tried to fix it by factory resetting (in the settings, NOT using the volume down/power button menu OR TWRP) and now I´m stuck in TWRP. Every time I try to reboot to System, it boots to TWRP now.

Reflash your variant's official KDZ using [PARTITION DL] with patched LGUP leaving [aboot], [abootbak], [recovery], [recoverybak] partitions unchecked.
- Once the flash finishes & phone reboots, do a battery pull so phone doesn't fully boot (wiping recovery & encrypting data)
- Insert battery again
- While pressing volume down button - reinsert usb cable so it boots into fastboot mode.
- Follow dirtysanta guide for your variant from running step3.bat onwoards (which flashes TWRP back into your otherwise stock phone).
LS997, no official KDZ. Use VS995, but dump everything with LGUP (bar userdata) before hand
