/system/ file for Samsung Galaxy J5 (2015)/SM-J500FN - Samsung Galaxy J5 Questions & Answers

Hi.
So I was on twrp and i flashed a rom that didn't work. It ended up changing my boot animation but the file was damaged. I couldn't boot my phone. Then I said to myself, "Oh, now it cant get ANY worse..".
Then i had the best idea ever not really tho! I deleted my /system/ file cus somehow i thought it would just come up with a backup from a long tome ago. Turns out it didn't. Can anyone here give me a twrp backup of their /system/ file so i can actually use my phone?
Best regards,
-GilliGalli

There's no need for TWRP backup. Just reflash stock ROM.
Here's a guide about how to do that .

That might be a problem. See, I don't remember what firmware i have. I only remember the SM-J500FN. How can i see what ROM to download? Also, my country isn't on the list

1) It doesn't matter which firmware you've had.
2) The country doesn't matter neither. You can flash firmwares from other countries and you won't have any problems.

But, you can get hidden.img.ext4 fail in odin

Boot to Download or recovery mode it will tell you your current binary version.
However as said it doesn't matter just download the latest firmware for your device region.

[Q] Note 3 N900W8 soft bricked, backup not working.. can't find a compatible firmware

I'm with Bell (Canada.) I was hesitant to root this device as it's a pretty significant investment, but I have rooted my original note with few issues, so I figured it should work as long as I follow every step carefully. Well unfortunately, upon first trying to root it, apps would start updating right at bootup, and SuperSU continuously crashed. So I decided I was just going to restore it to my original state and be done with it for now. Nope. Once I did this, the phone would just enter a boot cycle. (How does restoring my backup place me into a boot cycle?)
The only SM-N900W8 firmware downloads I can find are for south american regions... I have tried one of them and it failed to install. I am a bit panicked at the moment. Is there some crucial step I'm missing here?

If you restored through TWRP there is a good chance that you are softbricked. There are restoring issues that mess with the system partition.
Update: I was able to flash the tar file from inside the zip of mexican firmware through odin (I was trying to install the zip through TWRM before... perhaps you need to install stock firmwares through odin? It's been a while.)
It's not rooted, and the icons are all different looking... but it's back in working condition

I am using the TCE (Mexican) firmware from this link (It won't let me post links since I'm a newly registered account on these forums, but if you google "n900w8 firmware site:samsungis.com" it will be the first result)
I unzipped the file and flashed the tar file within using odin.

You know what.. Me being a dumbass tried again to root it after restoring it to the mexican firmware, and now I have the same problem. And now the restore isn't working this time. Why did it work once and not again? Who knows? I just keep trying to factory reset and reflash the firmware, but I'm getting nothing but bootloops.
Could this be a Knox created problem? The reason I say this is you were able to restore a "new" (unknown to Knox) firmware, but it failed on the second time (as it is now no longer newer). I wonder if you were able to find a firmware with a later number (ex ...H2 rather than ...H1) it would install?

I was trying the Peru one for a while, but it kept hanging up during the bootup. The message was in a foreign language, but I'm assuming it was "initializing". It would initialize for about 3 minutes then an error message would pop up saying something is not responding.

Well I have been trying to. When I flash the firmware in odin, it reinstalls the stock recovery mod. Right after flashing firmware, it won't go into recovery mode on the first boot (first does some android robot install thing, then boots up). I attempted to install the TWRP recovery directly after the firmware, and then booting directly into recovery to factory reset, but I'm still getting a boot loop.

(Help) Note 4 bricked, unable to mount data

Hi guys, i have some big problems with my n910f, tried to upload a pic to facebook and my phone crashed.
It simply does nothing, not booting, not charging, download and stock recovery are working.
I tried everything possible>
*flashed 3 different stock firmwares with odin
*tried a pit file repartion in odin
*wiped cache, did a few factory resets from stock revovery
*bought a new battery
*tried to root and flash a custom recovery but doesnt work
It is simply as bricked as it could be, the only information about this i have is stock recovery telling me unable to mount /data
So it seems my filesystem got corrupted as hell
The question is, how do i repair it?
Like i said pit file and bootloader flash did nothing, odin lets me flash everything without an error but it doesnt help.
I assume i could somehow repair it with adb fastboot but how?
Any help is welcome!

It may or may not help but I would sure try Kies. You NSFW get done errors like Kies telling you is not compatible bit but I would try the firmware initialization.

It confuses me a bit that it doesnt even charge, could a broken filesystem lead to this?

Pokmemon Go/ Uninstalled Kingroot and derooted boot screen custom & gear icon on boot

Pokmemon Go/ Uninstalled Kingroot and derooted boot screen custom & gear icon on boot
Hi, so a while ago I tried using kingroot and installed it for a little bit and used root to uninstall some factory installed apps like amazon, etc. then when i decided i did not want root anymore. i used the kingroot app to remove root and then uninstalled the kingroot application.
then i downloaded a root checker app to see if i was rooted. i was not.
now whenever i boot up my phone it says samsung and then the word custom with a gear icon below it.
now when i tried the newest version of pokemon go version 0.37.0 it says it cannot run on my device cause apparently it thinks i am rooted.
is there anyway to solve this? other than a factory reset?
I don't think a factory reset would help either.
You'd have to delete every trace of root left on your device, and kingroot probably left some files behind.
Unless you can find them, the most sure method is to flash another ROM (stock) though Odin.
I believe a custom kernel would also work, or the stock boot.img of your current ROM.

The ROM you can get from Sammobile. As for the files left behind, I don't know how kingroot handles those, but to access and delete them you would have to be rooted.

I already told you that a factory reset does not unroot.
If you want to completely unroot, flash the stock ROM.
If you don't want that, downgrade to Pokémon version 0.35.
0.37 has not even been officially released yet. I mean, I don't even have it on the play store and it's the same for many others.
PS: Xposed also needs root.

You don't need a pit file. And if the files are wrong, the instalation will just fail.
If that's the firmware you had previously, then it's ok.

Wifi and Bluetooth Problem!

Flashed Phoenix, used several days, suddenly wifi disconnected then in a few seconds connected again,it looped and I rebooted to find wifi isn't working at all, stuck at opening and grey button.
Then I flashed back to morphose, still the same.
So I flashed via Odin the latest Chinese official firmware(ZC???OH2) with 11G pit. This time I got about 15 mins of stable connection. After that the problem occurred again, exactly the same.:crying::crying:
Below is what I have done:
Pressing around the sdcard (it is said to be where the wifi chip is located, and it maybe caused by poor contact)
Reboot a thousand times
Changing kernel(kingz,stock,voltaqe)
Wiping cache and Dalvik
Mortifying build.prop to ro.securestorage.support (maybe not exact)from true to false(said to be a solution)
Forgot to mention :
1.the firmware was a repair firmware(five .md5 files)
2.in that firmware not only wifi but also Bluetooth fails to open
Download the latest single tar.md5 file from sammobile.com or updato.com and flash again. Don't forgot to perform a factory reset from stock recovery before letting the stock ROM boot for the first time.

Thanks for your reply
Should it be 8gb pit or 11gb?
And should it be my region or just the latest firmware no matter from where?
Flash the version for the region that the phone was made for.
Pit file is not needed unless Odin can't read the phone partition information.

Sorry for bothering again, but i found it was made for Europe. On updato there seems to be no region "europe",only Germany. So which one shall i flash?
Thanks in advance☺
You can try one for Germany. If it is not made for your phone, Odin will halt the flash process.

I began to wonder if it is correct that the device is European, for it was bought in offical China mainland market? But imei also showed that?
I am such a noob at coping with this kind of weird issue
Anyway i will download both ones and give a try in several days, the download speed is rather slow from updato:crying:
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy S4 using XDA Labs
Wait, if it was purchased in China, it's probably made for the Chinese market and will need the firmware version made for one of the Chinese carriers. Odin will not flash non-China firmware on a made-for-China phone.

Attachment is my imei searching result,it is shown made for Europe.Besides,I remember flashing other region firmwares and booted normally
And with China baseband I have very bad signal but after flashing other ones it is far better...so I guess it might be a phone wrongly sent to China market or something like that?
The connection to updato is so unstable that I still haven't finished downloading?
Edit:screenshots removed
Boot into download mode and confirm that the phone is a gt-i9500. If it is, flash the latest ROM from sammobile.com or updato.com for the 9500. You'll probably be okay with any ROM from Europe.
Don't flash with a pit file as a pit file is only needed if you need to re-partition the internal memory for some reason or Odin cannot read the phone's partition information.
Edit your post to remove your imei too.

Don't flash with a pit file as a pit file is only needed if you need to re-partition the internal memory for some reason or Odin cannot read the phone's partition information.

No,still no luck at all, wlan still does not work...Whats more in germany firmware i also get "com.android.media has stopped"
This is killing me,my network provider uses TD-SCDMA for 3G,but i9500 don't support that,so i can only use EDGE network, which is extremely slow.Anyway maybe I'll get another phone next month:victory:

Finally discovered something new.I am on miui8,when charging to 100% wifi connects, and it wont disconnect even unplug the cable until you do a reboot!Dont know if it works on other roms, but it does throw new light on the issue.
But...how does this happen?
This is very strange. I've never come across this situation with any phone.

Thank you!It is said that Wifi and bluetooth are on the same chip,so if bluetooth is now always working even wifi is broken then it cannot be a hardware failure, can it?
It could be a hardware failure but now I'm not sure since you got it to work on a custom ROM.

After testing for an afternoon I discovered:
Wifi will be unable to use the moment battery drops to 81%,it doesnt turns off,but simply shows no item in the list.
If I plug the charger and restart wifi, then it works properly.
If I restart wifi without charging, wifi will be stuck and I have to charge then reboot the phone to get it on again.
Wow, this is even more strange.
Do you have a cell repair shop that can diagnose it for you?

Yeah, but i'd rather get a new phone if it takes much time or money to repair it.The phone is still my daily driver, though i love it,it is indeed out of date, plus the problem.Getting something like a Redmi 5A might be a better choice? Moreover the rom is not that stable, battery life is also poor, but i dare not flash another rom for fear that wifi gets totally broken.
Thanks again for your time?
In this case, have you looked into getting a used motherboard?
I'm not sure where you are located but there is a big market in my city for used phones. When I need a motherboard, I look for people selling phones with smashed screens and working internal components.

Phone bricked and Odin always gets stuck at system.img

I tried installing UK firmware on my Galaxy S8+ using Odin, but it got stuck at system.img and now I can only boot the phone into download mode.
I've tried installing the original firmware as well but it also gets stuck at system.img.
Has this happened to anyone else? And is there anything I can do to fix this or am I ****ed?
Thank you very much in advance for any help
Did you use the most recent version of Odin (v3.13.1) ?

Yeah I did.
I've spent half the day trying to fix this, but it actually seems to be hard bricked.
All I wanted was the Pie Beta
If your Odin and files are right it might be the cable, if you're not using the original cable it causes that it happend to me many times. Hope this helps you

Well that is a very dangerous process and should not be done if u dont have any major issue but since u have pretty much death phone as u say it cant hurt to try as a last option.
Google what nand erase is in odin option,it will explain much better then me [emoji14]
Wish you all luck
Edit : try and see if u can find any emergency firmware aka repair firmware for you s8 if it exists and flash with that

I've tried it now, same result as always :/
In download mode it says OEM LOCK: ON, could that be the reason why?

Since u trying to flash samsung official firmware it shouldn't matter. Dont know what to advice as u tried pretty much everything i would do.
Maybe someone with more insights and knowledge what to do could help you but dunno.
Search the web all i can say.
Can u boot into the recovery? Maybe try to flash twrp and format everything from there ?

I think I've gone through every forum post and article on the internet about the issue, can't seem to find a solution.
Can't boot into recovery either, only download mode. I'll keep trying and I'll see if I can send it in for repair.
Thanks for your help, really appreciate it.

Have you fixed it already? If not try flashing everything with odin and also in 'Pit' tab put dreamlte .pit file from inside CSC .md5 file(open with rar)
Double check your files make sure you're not flashing an old fw and your Odin
After that, you probably try to flash using a non original data cable, its not a must but some cables can cause that

I've triple-checked everything. Both Odin and the files are all up to date, and the files are from the same firmware I had on the phone before it got bricked.
I'm going to try using firmware from SamMobile instead of SamDB.org, and will post back with results.
UPDATE:
Flashed firmware from SamMobile, it went through and my phone works again. Can't believe I spent $7 on SamDB for faster download speed and all I got was some files that don't even work properly. Next time I'll be more patient I guess
