Is there any way to make this work?
Since CF-autoroot doesn't work in nougat, I dunno how to make this work..
I don't know if is even possible, because as soon as i flash TWRP I cannot encrypt it again..
anyone?
For now only way is to install TWRP + SuperSU then flash old recovery
Im not sure but for this process you dont need no-verity-opt-encrypt..
Im on 7.0 Nougat and waiting better way to root it, i dont want custom recovery and i hear when you install TWRP bootloop is granted in 50/50 attempts

But you tried that method? (Flashing TWRP + SuperSU and then back stock recovery)
Crap... Nougat is really nice, but some basic stuff is missing for me... encryption and Xposed

im really sad, so i install custom recovery, flash Nougat debloated rom with root preinstalled and now i lose my CSC, *#060# or any other code not working.. im now on 7.0 UK version stock firmware and UUID codes not working ..
Root and encryption aren't working right now. Chainfire (SuperSU Dev) and a few other users are trying to get it to work.
For the time being, the most you can do is use a ROM like Helios and pick the encryption option. You won't have root but you can flash mods to /system in TWRP
My current setup is
Helios
Stock Kernel
Encrypted
Dual Speaker Mod
Private Mode Works
S Health Works
AppLock Works
Android Pay Works
Banking Apps Work

Well, It's an option... the most interesting mods that I used were with Xposed anyway, and for that the wait is going to be longer.
The device not encrypted is not very nice though... I guess eventually I just try it out meanwhile.
Thanks for the heads up @Galactus
Just out of curiosity, why do you guys "insist" on encryption? I still don't understand the repercussions of a decrypted device, let alone those of an encrypted device. I genuinely don't know. This is not a sarcastic or passive aggressive question!

Mainly data protection.
If my phone is stolen with encryption, once the thief turns the phone off that is it. The phone won't even fully load without my password. Sure, he can fully wipe the phone but this will also delete all of my data. Once reported stolen, it will simply be an expensive media player. Nougat also doesn't let you turn the phone off by using the power button unless you enter the phones password, so that helps using Android device manager or say Cerberus to locate the phone or enable it to play a loud alert
Without encryption. The thief can simply go into TWRP and take all the data
How about sd card encryption? Is this also not possible with rooted nougat? I just tried it and am stuck at the "checking sd card" message since hours. However the device is still working.
I just received the OP5 yesterday and unlocked the bootloader. I got the "Android Pay can't be used on this device" message when I try to add a credit card on android pay. Does anyone know if I need twrp and magisk installed in order for android pay to work?

EDIT: You need magisk to pass the safetynet...
Correct. It says uncerified for me. The only thing i did was unlock bootloader. Sigh. I guess i have to twrp and magisk. Thanks.

Usually deleting Play Store data and cache fixes the "uncertified" issue. It did with my OnePlus 3/3T. It didn't work for me with the OnePlus 5 however.

It won't unless you either 1) Use magisk as mentioned or 2) use a custom kernel with SafeyNet patches.
When you unlock your bootloader, the prop (which you can read using a terminal emulator and typing getprop) has a flag called verifiedbootstate. If it returns anything but green SafeyNet will fail.

U need to flash latest magisk and pass the safetynet to make Androidpay to work.
this is probably a stupid question but it's been a while since ive used android ... can you use android pay if you don't unlock the boot loader?

I've flashed v. 13 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/beta-magisk-v13-0-0980cb6-t3618589) and worked as a charm!
I have both the newest version of Magisk and the manager, but I'm still failing safetynet, do I need to manually hide something else in magisk hide? Any help is greatly appreciated

Try the latest stable version of Magisk. It worked for me a few days ago while the beta wasn't (beta is working for me lately though).
You might want to reflash stock boot partition before flashing Magisk, I don't know if it will make a difference...

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the stable version with no luck as well. I'll wait for the next beta version, and if that doesn't do the trick ill try reflashing the stock partition. If anyone finds a custom kernel that gets around safety net I'd really appreciate it.

I don't know if this is OP'S reason, but you can boot TWRP without actually installing it... So you can take nandroid backups of an otherwise stock device.
Also, unlocking bootloader wipes your phone, so if you want it stock for now but think you might root in the future you won't have to deal with that...
TBH though, SafetyNet is working as advertised by failing an unlocked bootloader. We like to have our cake and eat it too.
I installed super su on my Galaxy On5, flashed super su and rooted it with Odin too. Today i hit full unroot on supersu then rebooted and snapchat worked which told me it's been unrooted. Then figuring I'd be safe with installing magisk (since super su said it reverted to the stock image or something like that) I flashed magisk 13.3 but after it finished succesfully i rebooted but can't find anything magisk related installed on my phone. Could someone point me in the right direction?

I had one time where I got Magisk working with the Superstarz ROM on the SM-G550T1. I don't remember what I did tbh, but it took hours of rebooting, frustrating hanging, etc.. Upon one of the Magisk modules I flashed after it did work, of course to my sadness it stopped working. Nandroid backups are so crucial and I just stopped making so many changes before a backup these days. Sure you can't speed demon through and get all your wildest fantasies to come true overnight, but I find making incremental progress with backups to me more sustainable. Anyways, I tried many times, many setups, and ultimately wasted many hours trying to "win" with this phone. I'd honestly highly recommend sticking with SuperSu by Chainfire as it has always just worked. That means no Android Pay, no Pokemon Go, and prolly others I haven't considered. I too wanted to have my cake and eat it... For Safetynet to pass and la la la. Truth be told, it is a royal pain in the arse!!! If YOU STILL DARE, you would definitely want to make sure you start with a stock ROM boot image and BACK IT UP #1. If you are using a custom ROM it may not allow you to fully unroot and go back to a stock img because it doesn't find one to revert to. For Magisk to pass SafetyNet and work at full capacity, you must start there. If you go to the trouble of going all the way back to stock, please upload one for all of us and make sure to include your phone/os specs from about phone. From stock, flash custom recovery BEFORE ROOT, within recovery back up boot, upload for us and yourself. Now, you have a legit revertible img to go back to in case you can't from Magisk/SuperSu. Phh's Superuser was a nightmare btw, never worked correctly. There's no way to unroot and go back to a stock boot img that I found unless you first back up from TWRP or custom recovery. Long answer, more than you bargained for no doubt, but hopefully something to be gained from. Really though... if all you want is for Snapchat to work and can live without Android Pay/Pokemon Go. Here's an easier method: uninstall Xposed, unroot, log into Snapchat (let it save a login token), root, re-install Xposed, Titanium Backup Snapchat, it should hold up from there. Did it once, forget if that's entirely right, but search and ye will find exact threads. I just said to hell with Snapchat, Pokemon Go, and Android Pay. I'd rather settle for Chainfire's Superuser's stability, Xposed (more mods), & less overall B.S. Sorry if that isn't the best possible answer, or what exactly you were sought. I did however want to share some of my experience (many, many, many hours of tinkering). All in all, I finally decided to order a new digitizer/lcd to repair an old OnePlus One that I have had laying around. I plant to fix it and migrate because I'll tell ya right now... ppl just aren't gonna do much more for this model than what you see out there. Perhaps I'm being a pessimist, but also realist... I've been waiting around looking for something to come, too lazy to attempt re-compilation of code myself, and no one else has yet. Magisk can be a nightmare to the ninth gate's extreme degree. It is possible, not saying it can't be done. Have patience, or it won't that's for sure. Just really have to mess up... lots of times... over and over, and over and over and over again. Learn, read XDA, and be stubborn/patient as hell until you get there. Document your progress so you know what you did and maybe you can help someone else. Other times it's more advantageous pick what matters, settle, and focus on something else. :good:
From my understanding you need a clean install, unroot with SU (or install SU as systemless (?)),wipe internal, and follow instructions to install Magisk... I'm not totally sure though, also install the Magisk module.

Also if you can list the modules u have from magisk.
Hi XDA community,
I will receive my new OnePlus Pro 8 tomorrow.
This will be my first OnePlus phone and it will likely be the North American version.
Primarily, I would like to unlock the bootloader and root the phone, additionally also have the Dual-sim functionality enabled.
I don't have a lot of experience with rooting, but can follow steps and instructions
1) Should I start the new phone let it update all the way to oxygen OS 11 and than follow steps to unlock the bootloader and root the phone and than transfer my data? - Will this process be more complicated than doing it with Oxygen OS 10.?
2) Once the phone is rooted, can I transfer data from my old phone through the USB/Phone/data transfer apps so it gets setup automagically ?
3) Does TWRP work with OS 11 ? if not is there an update schedule for it?
4) Does Dual Sim for NA phones work with Oxygen OS 10 or is it enabled only at Oxygen OS 11 ?
Any things else that I should be aware of? (this process or the phone in general as well?)
Thank you all
DV
Peace.

Is there a forum thread for how I can unlock the bootloader and to perform root, the XDA forum threads while very resourceful are a bit overwhelming as there seem to be multiple methods of achieving root.
I am not planning on installing customROMS as yet, just want the phone to be unlocked and so I can enable the colour filter, installing gcam etc for now.
Cheers,

One for the bootloader.
One for updating, rooting and payload dumper.

Do you mind pasting the links here, I have managed to get the bootloader unlocked using fastboot.
(NVM, I think I found your threads oneplus-8-pro/how-to/root-uk-eu-patched-magisk-boot-img-t4175033 & )
My model is IN2025
OS: 10.5.10.IN11AA
I wanted to know,
1) OxyOS updater is prompting that there is an update to Oxygen OS 11.IN11AA
Can I update to OxyOS 11 and still keep the bootloader unlocked ?
"It displays that OEM unlock is detected, system will download the full upgrade package, please backup data...etc."
2) Should I root my phone now and later will I be able to upgrade / flash to Oxygen OS 11 ? -North-American market requires OS 11 for dual sim
Where can I find the appropriate files to get make a 'patch' using payload for this version (10.5.10.IN11AA) ?
Thank you

Yes you can
Yes that's fine
Easiest way is whatever you like .
You can either root now then take the update and then OTA install magisk patched or just boot the magisk patched after and then directly install

I updated to OS11.IN11AA to enable Dual Sim first.
I guess I can try rooting now. Sorry I still have a few queries:
1)
In your instructions you suggest extracting 'your own' boot.img using the payload_dumper.
My phone (thanks to the OEM unlock) has downloaded a large 2GB+ zip file on the phone, should I use that payload.bin to extract the boot.img
or
the one on the oneplus website will work as well? - They appear to be the same but would like to know if there is a difference.

There weren't any updates till I selected the stable channel and than canary again. I have installed the whatever updates, it showed:

Installed: N/A <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Why does it show N/A ?, will this change after the rooting process ?
Ramdisk: Yes
A/B: yes
SAR: yes
Crypto: File
Manager (latest) 1469b82a(315)(14)

Hey,
1.) Yep that's absolutely fine, I tend to use oxygen updater as it's been absolutely flawless up until now and it won't allow you to download a firmware not compatible with your device.
Wherever you choose the numbers you've shown seem good to me, but id I had to choose I'd go with oxygen updater.
2.) Some people have had a lot more luck with the beta channel, so long as you have the install/update buttons then you're ready to patch the boot.img and go ahead and boot it using Fastboot.
Don't worry about N/A that just states that magisk_patched isn't there yet, which is normal.
So at this point, you're welcome to stick with stable but I couldn't recommend it as I've not done this myself, I've only had luck with canary but others have had luck with beta.. I'd recommend one of them channels, changing back to canary may now show the buttons that were missing..
If not then beta.
There are some troubleshooting steps at the end of the guides at the bottom. As well as all the files which I used.
Let me know how you get on

So I believe, the channel display when first opened did not show any install / update buttons but the settings showed channel: Canary.
I believe I switched to stable and the buttons showed up (i did not install than), after which I switched channels to canary and than installed.

That's ok you just flashed it twice.
Reason for the boot and not flash is due to the fact that boot images can always go wrong,, bad copy or just corruption. But if you're rooted then you're all good
Magisk hide attempts to hide itself from apps that works otherwise detect it, meaning you can go ahead and use Google pay our your banking apps.
In theory anyway, but some apps have other ways of detecting root and thus it won't work.
Up until now I've been ok.
I see..
Ah I see, Thanks again. Google pay complains about root, but my other Bank apps seem fine so far. I'll try my luck with hide magisk.
I suppose next time the phone updates, I will lose root as the active partition will switch ?
The only odd thing that has happened is the I have an extra/duplicate icon for the Android Files App. I don't know how to get rid of it...but it's not a big issue.
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers,

Ah I see, Thanks again. Google pay complains about root, but my other Bank apps seem fine so far. I'll try my luck with hide magisk.
I suppose next time the phone updates, I will lose root as the active partition will switch ?
The only odd thing that has happened is the I have an extra/duplicate icon for the Android Files App. I don't know how to get rid of it...but it's not a big issue.
Thanks again for your help!
Cheers,
DV

Me? I have pal
Can someone please paste a link to the 11.0.4.4 global installation file. My Oneplus8 pro is rooted and as such I cannot download it from system updates. I tried to fastboot an unpatched boot but I couldn't get WiFi to turn on. Accordingly, I'd like an alternate download option for 11.0.4.4 global.
Being rooted should not prevent the update. Otherwise download "oxygen updater" from the play store.

In my experience being rooted does prevent updates especially if you've flashed the patched boot image to both slots. In the past I've had his name issue. I got the update to stick when I fastboot flash Boot the original stock boot Image.
Have not seen the full 11.0.4.4 global zip anywhere yet....
I uninstalled Magisk, took the update and then reinstalled Magisk before rebooting. Seems to have worked OK.

I tried that, but when I did I couldn't get wifi enabled. I tried to download on cellular but it repeatedly failed. I rarely use cellular and I only have 2gb/mo. (If it were stable I'd be fine.)

I think I'll just live with 2.2 until oxy updated has 4.4. From what I've read 4.4 doesn't really do much. OnePlus sucks anymore.
PS I was finally able to download 2.2 again and I install it (via system update) which got rid of root so I downloaded and installed 4.4. Haven't rooted it yet.

Yes Magisk works on 4.4. There's a 4.4 Boot image thread in the Guides. You should be able to find it

4.4 has improved my battery life somehow.. Seemingly a lot better than it was.
In regards to there updates, I'd say (if you're rooted or not) to use oxygen updater, it's an absolutely rock solid app.
Plus they tend to release way before OnePlus do for each device.
Installation isn't affected by root, simply disable your modules then when prompted to reboot just don't, click install to inactive slot and you're done.
If you've taken an incremental update then I couldn't help you, personally I'd only stick to full updates.
4.4 has definitely improved things for me.
I'm on BA /2023

I like Oxygen Updater but it is still showing 2.2. I downloaded that 2.2 to get rid of root then was able to download 4.4 from system update, now I'm trying to root 4.4. Fastboot boot isn't working for me now for some reason. I'm not sure those downloads labeled 4.4, IN11AA (2020 global) are for real. If anyone has a file known to work on this variety please share a link.

I have the BA model. So I can't help you there mate.
There were people flashing BA according to people in my thread, perhaps contact them via PM and see what they say.
Wasn't a big deal by all accounts.

Oxygen updater finally has the 4.4 11 AA. I have payload dumped it and tried to patch the boot.img but magisk is failing. I cannot seem to get the canary channel so I'm using the latest beta but it isn't working. I cannot believe that nothing is working for me. Has anyone else succeeded?

I've been on 11.0.4.4 for about a week now, but I did it using the OTA, not with the full upload. I've been doing it this way for a while, just like I did with my Pixel 2XL.
Anyway, I downloaded the full upload from OnePlus's page a few minutes ago to test it out, and I was able to patch the boot image after extracting it from the payload.bin using the latest beta magisk. I did it on my Pixel 2XL, that's really the only reason I keep that phone around now, besides it being a backup phone just in case my OP8P craps out.

Great idea! I never thought of patching the stock boot.img on another device. It worked and now I'm finally rooted. Thank you for sharing your idea! BTW my former phone was a Pixel2XL. Was that the best phone ever? Still is but I sold it when I bought my 8pro. Big mistake!
