Thanks. Haven't tried this yet. What happens if I press the Home button on the Fire remote? Do I go back to the Amazon or Kodi screen?

Goes to the Amazon home screen, so far only supports loading Kodi on boot and after screen timeout.
I have tested your App. Not working on my 5.2.4.1 Fire TV. But keep up the goodwork though.

Thank you working on my first gen ftv stick with new menu update. However could not interact with it via either the remote or the amazon iOS remote app. Had to uninstall and reboot to stop it booting kodi. Thanx BB

Fire os 5.2.4.1 Home ver. 5.7.3-17
Worked for me on both a Fire TV 1 and Fire TV 2. Both on latest 5.2.4.1 version. But I could not get the timeout option to work. Not sure about the units used, so I tried 1, 1000, and 1000000 but it always just launched immediately after boot each time.
Looks like the Time out function is to start kodi after the fire tv has gone to sleep for X amount of time.

Doesn't work for SPMC
OnBootKodi has been blacklisted by Amazon. This means you can only use it if your device is rooted and you've disabled the blacklist.
You can modify Kodi to run as a launcher. Then use Launcher Hijack v3 to make it act as the default launcher. It works WITHOUT root.

How do you turn Kodi into a launcher? And once you have, would pressing the home button on the FireTV remote open Kodi or will it continue to load the Amazon dashboard?

I am not 100% sure, but I think you can edit the manifest.xml file and add a launcher behavior. Not my specialty. If not you could edit Launcher Hijacks open source code to work with kodi, In the meantime just press home when it turns on and it will load your launcher of choice .

Would recommend SPMC with Launcher build in. Might be best option:
https://github.com/koying/SPMC/releases/tag/16.7.1-spmc
Haven't had time to test this option. Post your experience.
Unfortunately OnBootKodi is being blacklisted via Amazon.
I tried to hide Amazon blacklist Service, but it didnt help
pm hide com.amazon.tv.settings/com.amazon.tv.settings.tv.AppDisableService
OnBootKodi is being shown as disabled package after a FireTV reboot which cant be re-enabled due to non-root privileges.
edit1: also deinstalling tv settgins wont help
pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.amazon.tv.settings

I mentioned this in another thread some time ago but it never gained any traction. It appears Amazon is currently blocking these apps by package name alone. Why don't any of these developers just change the package name to something already in use on the app store that way Amazon can't block it without also blocking the real app?

I had purchased a ton of Ouya games from the Ouya Store and i lets be honest, they have some games that both Google and Amazon dont have yet. I pulled these APKS from the Madcatz Mojo after the recent Ouya Everywhere update.
READ ALL THE STEPS FIRST BEFORE ATTEMPTING.
1.) If you have an Ouya Controller pair it to your Fire TV, Yes it works.
2.) Download and install all Ouya Apk Files HERE
I pulled newer APk from the mojo as of 031715 (I havent tested these yet) HERE
3.) You will probably notice an Ouya App in Setting - Applications, if you attempt to launch that application it will tell you theres nothing to do, so dont waste your time and dont launch it.
4.) Perform unknown sources mod HERE
5.) Install TitaniumBackup Pro and Freeze KFTV Launcher (You will need a USB mouse or something that emulates a mouse cursor)
6.) Hit the home key on your Fire TV Remote, it will launch Ouya Launcher
7.) Log in with your Ouya Account and you should see the normal Ouya Launcher screen Install whatever you want. If for whatever reason you click and it doesnt register your fire remote than use your mouse.
8.) Install any app/game from the Ouya Store
9.) Make - Software, launch TitaniumBackup Pro, unfreeze the KFTV Launcher
11.) Press Home again and you'll get the regular Fire Tv launcher. Launch any ouya app/game you installed from the Setting - Application.
post what games you've attempted and worked.
Works:
Age of Empire
Big Action Mega Fight!
Canabalt HD
Double Dragon
Fist Puncher
Ittle Dew
MiniGore 2: Zombies
Neon Shadow
Nostalgia
ShadowBlade
SuperGNES
TowerFall
Vector
You Dont Know Jack
Doesnt Work:
Amazing Frog!
BombSquad (Upon Launch it'll say hardware not supported)
The Cave
FPse For Ouya (Runs but Crashes when Rom is Loaded)
Do you have to use an ouya controller or will any controller compatible with the fire TV work?

I only have an Ouya and Mojo Controller (C.T.R.L.) both work
I got it to work without autopilot.
To get back to the KFTV Launcher, you just need to go to Make / Software, launch TitaniumBackup Pro, unfreeze the KFTV Launcher and hit the Home button. No reboot needed

So you were able to successfully reboot with the kftv launcher frozen with autopilot set to launch something? Reason i ask is i would like to disable the kftv launcher all together with package manager, but havnt had the balls fearing not being able to boot back up.

Thanks for your help yesterday.. i got the balls to try it without autopilot and sure enough as long as you have activated the launcher once (getting its default settings as home) pressing the home key it will boot without any autoloading apps.
I did this with GO Launcher EX and with XBMC (my launcher version)
my procedure was as follows.
I installed GO Launcher EX
froze the kftv launcher with titanium,
pressed home on remote.. Go Launcher loaded. Then rebooted with play/select on remote.
Machine rebooted directly to go launcher
This will of course loose your access to prime videos and whatnot but im really just looking for XBMC myself.
Keep in mind if you choose a regular android launcher you will probably need an airmouse or keyboard/trackpad to get around.
If you use my modded XBMC from this thread it works fine with the ftv remote.

2- Freezing the FTV default (KFTV) launcher with titanium backup
3- success ?

Now that we have OUYA on the FireTV, has anyone had luck porting the FireTV's Netflix app to the OUYA?
Any chance someone could fix Amazing Frog to allow the Logitech K400r Keyboard to work with it?
Not sure if this is known already but i found a way to make my side loaded apps appear under apps on my fire stick main menu using agk fire app.
I download and installed the amazon store apk on my phone then side-loaded it on my fire tv stick, after that you will be able to see all the side-loaded apps under app section thus eliminating the need to use fired tv launcher or llama app,
I am not sure if it works with the fire tv but i guess someone can try and report back.

This has been reported before. I believe it may stop some of the amazon services from working properly (installing apps, watching videos, etc.) I have never tried it personally though.
Applications Organizer Pro FireTV edition does this too. You can enable single click launch in the app settings last time I checked it was on sale for $0.99. It is native. I wish FiredTV was approved as native

Yes the app certainly makes things easier than going through settings etc.. . Since its a native app to FTV, it shows on the main apps homepage. Nice.. If the developer could add a "Dashboard View" that can be displayed on startup, and allow the user to tag specific apps to show on the dashboard, this would satisfy me. It would allow the most used apps to be launched with two clicks from the home page apps category.
I'm running vanilla FireTV, no root, no Organizer Pro, nothing special. I've noticed, as others have as well, that if you sideload an Amazon app store app it will show up in "Recent" on the main AFTV menu. Between this and the AGK Fire side-loading app on my Android phone this is good enough for me. Just install an app from Amazon on my phone, then with a few clicks AGK Fire pushes it to my AFTV and I'm good to go. Now if only Amazon would push out an update to let us use USB storage for apps or at least app data without rooting I'd be completely satisfied.
How are you guys able to sideload the amazon appstore apk onto the FireTV
I downloaded the Amazon appstore apk from the Amazon website onto my computer and tried sideloading using ADB. When trying to sideload, the command states "FAILURE [INSTALL_FAILED_ALREADY-EXISTS]"
Is it because the amazon appstore is currently installed on the firetv?
Edit: I just used the AGK Fire app and it worked perfectly. Is there anyway for Kodi to appear on the recents menu?

I keep seeing people say the firedTV launcher should be a native app, but that will never happen. There is a better chance of Amazon sellling Fire TVs at buy one get two free than them approving another laucher to be a native app. They do not want other launchers to be used, and for good reason, they are a business that is selling entertainment and their product is incorporated in to their launcher, so why would they be dumb enough to approve a launcher that does nothing to help sell their products? Approving the fired TV launcher to be a native app would be beyond stupid for Amazon to do. I do not like the default launcher at all, but the day Amazon approves a third party launcher as a native app for the fire TV, is the day I lose respect for them as a business, and so would all their investors.

You do not really have to uuse adb to sideload apps, just download them from your browser and install em, cause its much easier. I have sideloaded two apps, a browser and a file manager, and if you have those to apps there is no need for using adb.

That is just wishful thinking. I agree with you and do not expect it to be approved in it's current design. A substitute launcher that hijacks the home button will not be approved by Amazon ever, even is just an option that is disabled. (I posted that in the Fired TV thread). It would interfere with the advertisement of paid content. All I want is simple grid "sublauncher" for sideloaded apps like chainfire did for the Nexus Player, but native. I think that fact that App Organizer was a passive app allowed it through.
Hi, I've been trying to figure out how to have a shortcut to the leanback launcher from within kodi. I use kodi as my main launcher with xbmc launcher and know how to use twisted home manager to get back to it, and to point kodi to Netflix and other apps, but not to the leanback launcher home screen. I tried doing a custom Android activity but it does nothing? Anyone have any success?
Was wondering the same thing. On my fire tv kodi shows the FTV launcher in android apps so I just favorite it and add it to my submenu.

yeah, same problem. i have a fire tv and a fire tv 2 which both can be done this way, but kodi doesnt see the app for some reason, even if you manually point it to it. even if someone were to just code an app that autolaunched the leanbacklauncher, id be fine with that. just want to go into it without a lot of hassle.
I have the same problem, I want to use XBMC Launcher as standard, but I also want to get back to Leanback once in a while for updates and settings. I have read about something here adding it as a favorite but I cannot seem to figure out how.

Well if you are trying to access settings I found an apk that just links to the settings screen. You just need to favorite the app in Kodi. I would give credit to who made it but idk who that is!

Thanks I have installed that, would still however like an app who just opens the Leanback Launcher. I have tried the one from this thread, but it does not work. (Note: It is for the Nexus Player!). But hopefully it is possible to make something similar for the Shield.

Hi
I have tried it, it did not work
you can accomplish this using the Kodi add-on Advance Launcher.
* Create a new standalone launcher
* select the launcher application as /system/bin/am
* set the application arguments as: start --user 0 -a android.intent.action.VIEW -n com.google.android.leanbacklauncher/com.google.android.leanbacklauncher.MainActivity
* set the title to something meaningful (e.g. Leanback Launcher)
* select Android as the platform, though this likely doesn't really matter
* select whatever for the Thumbnails and Fanarts path. You can change the icon of this launcher individually by pulling up the context menu later
this should do it. You can add the launcher to favorites, and then set it as a home menu item within Kodi or a submenu item with most modern Jarvis skins.
Tasker AppFactory
You can do it by creating a task in Tasker that opens Leanback. Export that task as app and have Kodi run that app.

Hello everyone!
In the Amazon Fire tablet community a member (BaronKiko) made a program called Launcher Hijack. It works really good on the Amazon Fire TVs. If you do not like ads and bloatware, it hides them pretty well. I installed a TVLauncher3.1.0 apk and Launcher Hijack v3 and it does the job!

Very interesting for those friends that won't/can't root. Do you know if v3 sees AppStarter/FireStarter as a Launcher or only as an app ?
---------- Post added at 06:56 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:19 AM ----------
Well just tried it on a non-rooted FTVS1 & the single Home press worked great with AppStarter. Now Launcher Hijack v3 & AppStarter did take a long time to start from a device manual restart. And it did not go into AppStarter by itself at bootup (had to press Home). But once I had let enough time pass. After hitting Home AppStarter started to load from that device restart. But there was no way to tell when it was ready (when LHv3 had started).
Very good non-rooted option. Only minor tweaks left to make it great.

The default launcher does not show up. Other apps installed that are launcher-eligible will pop up as options. It works good and is basically an adblocker.
As soon as it is on, I just hit the hone button. It works 1/10 times, if you see fire launcher just press home again. It is very lightweight and doesn't take much time at all for me.
Works well when it detects a launcher app (TVlauncher and Unwind launcher, does not detect HAL). TVlauncher works best but I need to exit it everytime I need to watch something through Prime Video. Other launchers dont work well (Unwind does not show half of the apps that I've got installed). Will have to wait for root if that ever comes in order to get Leanback launcher.
The default launcher does show up if you uncheck hide system apps in the settings .
This app takes about 15 seconds after fully booted to kick in and that's fine by me. Thank you very much.

Yeah, the only thing I might request the author is to add an option for auto-Home press when it is activated or specially when it boots up when a device is turned on or restarted. Since other then waiting 10-15 seconds after restart/activated there is no way to know when it is fully on. There should also be a way to a way to control the double/long home presses. But this is a SOLID App as is.
Tested choosing non launchers (Kodi, Downloader, etc.) & that never worked. So I am not sure what is the purpose of letting you see the other non Launcher Apps if they can't be used. I did installed the SPMC Launcher APK & that worked perfectly. You can get the latest SPMC Launcher option from:
http://spmc.semperpax.com
Just go into the "More downloads at: link " & choose the launcher version for your device.
Most of us (FTV1, FTVS1 & FTVS2) need the ARM v7a (32bit) & only the FTV2 & FTV-TV need the ARCH64 Launcher versions.
can i find a way to make it work with halauncher?? any ideas to make it work with this??
Just published a new release with full support for Fire TV's: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fir...ck-v4-t3877467

http://spmc.semperpax.com
Just go into the "More downloads at: link " & choose the launcher version for your device.
Most of us (FTV1, FTVS1 & FTVS2) need the ARM v7a (32bit) & only the FTV2 & FTV-TV need the ARCH64 Launcher versions.

Bit late to respond but It should also work with any app now, the non-launcher option was there before because some launchers don't get filtered correctly when they work just fine.
Also it does perform a home press at boot. Always has done if you enable the accessibility service. Thinking about it on the version you have been using that's probably not the best idea but now it should all be good.

You can see a step by step guide here
Accessibility Permissions Manager
Hi Everyone,
I would like to share with you my app which you will only need if you want to use apps which needs Accessibility Permissions to work.
This app reduces the hassle to enter the commands to set those apps up and is created to be used on FireTV Devices.
Instructions:
Enable ADB Debugging on your FireTV.
Open Accessibility Manager.
If you are on FireOS 6 or 7 then you will see a prompt to Allow ADB Debugging, Click ALLOW
if app shows Connection Failed Disable then Re-enable ADB Debugging.
Sometimes reboot is required, and if you are still getting Connection Failed, there will be System Update ready to install
Install that update and reopen Accessibility Manager.
If everything goes fine, you will reach the Main Screen where you can Allow and Deny other Apps.
After that you can Disable ADB Debugging to be on safe side, you will not be needing that anymore.
If you are on FireOS 5, follow the on screen Instructions,
you will need a PC with ADB on it, or you can use Remote ADB Shell on other Smartphone.
after following the Instruction reopen Accessibility Manager and you are good to go.
NOTE: APP WORKS ON OLDER VERSION OF FIREOS ONLY.

fireos 6.2.7.2
Fire Tv Setting - accessibility service is still OFF in Fire TV Settings after installing
Accessibility Manager_1.6.apk
On/Off Sleep mode auto starts Wolf Launcher, but hard-reset brings original amazon home screen. & pressing home button on remote still brings me to OG home screen (amazon) launcher.
Please anyone tell LaunchX method in OP is still working as of 16 Aug or not..
Because after doing everything for me it's not working.. Amazon launcher keep coming back after pressing home button on remote!!

Seems like the latest Amazon Update broke it again. we have to wait for the developers
Yes, mine also FTV4k did an update last night going from 6.2.7.1 to 6.2.7.3
Now Accessibility Services: Stopped.
Home screen button back to default UI
Yup same here, just got the same update last night. So Accessibility workaround to enable a custom bootable application [like launchers] stopped working.
Hopefully @SweenWolf can work some magic and get us another workaround.
No longer working on fire TV is 6.2.7.3 any idea Wolf?
I used to use an app that enables another apps accessibility just by opening it. But I can't seem to get it to work for techdoctoruk's firetv settings.
https://github.com/oathzed/BMsettings/blob/master/bmsettings (1).rar
Even though I put this in the main activity :
const-string v3, "enabled_accessibility_services"
const-string v4, "com.wolf.firetvsettings/com.wolf.firetvsettings.HomeService
Is that not where accessibility service is located?

Amazon hasn't released 6.2.7.3 from what I can tell. My Fire TV is currently on 6.2.7.1 according from the Check For Updates page. Has Amazon recently pushed out 6.2.7.3 yet?

I am on 6.2.7.3. might be a slow regional roll out.

I know many have received the update and it broke the apps, but I too am waiting for the update, without looking it myself i cannot say anything.
Amazon pushed out 6.2.7.3 on August 17th for the FireStick4k. It's a slow rollout though. I have it in Canada.
Same here, in Canada. I have 5 Firestick 4K. Two of them have updated to 6.2.7.3 (and broke the Home button of the Wolf launcher) and the other 3 are still on 6.2.7.1 and when I click to check for updates on those 3, it says that they are up to date. So I'm not sure it's a regional thing as opposed to maybe which have been registered first or some other order of operation... I ended up rooting the two at 6.2.7.3 and was able to figure out how to make work in a "round about way". Dang, hopefully soon you'll be able to debug, or if you need me to help debug anything Im hear.
Any hope on a fix Sween? Looks like accessibility doesn't fully seem to be the issue. I cant get my button mappers to find any key codes.

you do know that Accessibility service is the services which gives back the "key codes".
And yeah, I cannot bind my service to the system, the only problem, there isn't any other problem.
In short Accessibility Service is doomed for FireOS. Unless it isn't because VoiceView still works.
I had no time to fully understand the issue, i was held up, i will look into it tomorrow, Night.

I have accessibility enabled on the button mapper though. I'm not getting thrown any error saying i need to enable accessibility. On my other keymapper it also says accessibility "enabled".
Well that sucks. hopefully you can figure something out tomorrow. cheers man.

It doesn't matter what the keymapper is saying, the Methods aren't returning.
