Hi there
I'm receiving spam SMS from such with no phone number, thus it seems impossible to block those morons. It's so annoying that Samsung has no option to block spammers without a number!
I had used Hangouts before and I was able to somewhat block such but now Hangouts is stopping being an SMS app so I switched to Samsung Messages app.
Any way to somehow block those spammers?
Tru Calling App maybe?

Caller ID apps have nothing to do with SMS and they wouldn't be able to recognize spammers without numbers.
Somehow these spammers send SMS via different way that allow them to send SMS without showing their numbers or having no numbers at all.
It's freaking annoying that Samsung doesn't include an option to stop these.
Same problem here. I used chomp sms and i had that option. Now i´m trying to use the default app and thats impossible to do. It´s really annoying.

Try Calling does SMS also.
Hi there ! I have also the same problem here in Turkey . I just called the customer technical service of Samsung ( for my S8 ) . They informed that the only way to block these SMS is : go to block messages > there are 3 options , select the second one ( block icons/symbols ) > for example I'm receiving sms from 'marsbet' , so I wrote marsbet and clicked on the '+' icon . Now I will wait if it works or not . Please also try the same and keep us posted if it works or not . Thank you guys..
Just to explain more clearly :
Tap Messages.
Tap the 3 dots icon.
Tap Settings.
Tap Block messages
Tap on the second option ( Block symbols or block icons , or something like that ) , write the name or word of the message and tap on the '+'
That's all...
yes that will work but if the spam caller is called John and you add that name to your block list I believe that will block all messages from any john even if they are in your contact list
I have similar but opposite problem.
I receive emergency response messages via text with caller ID being a name not number.
I cannot add this as a contact or change the notification tone for them meaning I don't know if it's a fire call or just a normal message

Hello, I´m trying to kill by code the notification popup bubble that is shown when you receive a new sms message, just inmediatly when it appears
Is it possible ??
Thanks in advance
This is a problem that the SMS app should clean up. Basically, the sms notification messages tell the phone to do things. For example the message to turn on the new SMS indicator is a blank text message with a subject of
Voice Mail
From
"Voice Mail System" . <[email protected]>
The SMS application should delete it afterward. After Talking to a smart guy from T-mobile Wireless Data group I also learned that this is a function of the Glenair voicemail system. Some upgrades cause it to send these messages as I did NOT get them in the past on my Nokia 8290. Some handsets do this automatically apparently or maybe its just something new.
Of course I may be totally wrong...
other imput appreciated.

There`s a key in the registry (HCUK/Software/Microsoft/SMS/Protocols/..) in which is defined which Application should start when a SMS arrives, standard is /windows/tmail.exe - if you change this key(s), you can redirect the SMS to other programms and the POPups are away. But be carefull: If the Application in the key don`t handle the SMS, the SMS-Text are "lost in space".
Hope that helps al little bit? ;o)

This notification you mention is specific to T-Mo and does only that, wake up. I have tried to kill this little run many times with no avail. For some reason the 2003 OS's except 4.00.10 do not have this as a default. I did not do a system snap in between upgrades, wish I did then I could finally tell what little bastard does this and kill it in future versions if I or other US users are happy being notified only once instead of twice by two different methods that they have a flippin' Voicemail
On MDA there's an Option to turn off the Bubble (but there's also an envelope on top of the screen.
Start->Settings->Sounds&Notifications->Notifications->Post: New SMS
If you remove the hook on "Show Message" further on there is no bubble again

EVery mobile phone I've had will let me dial phone numbers that are embedded in SMS messages that I receive as long as the phone number is in quotes. Eg, Please call Jon on "04144444444" Is there a way to do this on the XDA II Mini? Is there an add on program that'll let me do this or a special way to format incoming messages? I use a message service that sends me SMS alerts with the persons call back number in it. Thanks.
it is irritating to have every text msg popped up. and I do not feel secure to have the msg shown there for few seconds. so just wondering is there any way to shut that pop-up off ? TIA
sounds like you have women problems

settings\sounds & notifications\notifications tab
select Messaging: New text message from the "Event:" drop down menu
uncheck the "Display message on screen" tickbox.
click ok.
go have a beer and chill for a minute or two and voila! it bloody works!
I feel you
I would also like to know if it's possible to turn SMS *receiving* off completely (i.e. so that the phone will "refuse" to accept SMS messages but will continue to receive regular voice calls).
Any suggestion?
Cheers!

You could just call your carrier and tell them to turn off sms on your account.

sure , but then again for voice you have unconditional voice forwarding that you can control yourself, whereas for SMSes you have... nothing!
i guess it would be easy to hack the phone to report something like "memory capacity exceeded" when the network tries to deliver a short message and you don't want to receive any messages, but want to still be able to receive phone calls. that would make the network store your message(s) and try to deliver later. i also guess that would be much easier than waiting for your operator to implement something like "unconditional sms forwarding"

dan
There are plenty of applications that will block SMS's. Photo Contacts Pro, SmartBlock, EasyHelper SMS, etc. A simple search would have turned up a ton of them.
If you go into the phone dialing app and go into options, there is a tab for "services" that is listed in there. It give you a number for the "text message service center" - you might get what you want by changing that to 0 or something. Not sure.
But yea, you should be able to call your carrier and have them turn this off. Since they charge you for incoming texts usually, they should have a way to opt out.

changing the service center no will not prevent your phone receiving short messages, it is only used when you send them.
over here operators don't usually charge for incoming text messages (unless it's from a special service). i remember that on the other side of the atlantic things are quite different
I know there is many applications to block contacts or specific numbers. But none of them clean the log if you call to a specific number, or send a messege.
Idea:
-Clean specific number from Log, dialed or received.
-Clean sms sent box from the messege sent to a specific number.
-Receive sms from specific numbers in a inbox folder inside the app.
-Hide numbers in contact List.
-Block incoming call from numbers by (silence phone and hide all notifications and blocking answer and reject key), keeping a log.
-Protected password app with log, and hidden numbers that you can dial directly from the list.
I'm available to make the graphic part for this app.
Private msg me if we can develop it together.
anyone interested in devolop this app ...

No, but his wife is!
i would love this!!!!!
that would be great...you could take some part of Call SMS Blocker, some part of magicall, and fake sms features of Eye on Privacy then we cud have a perfect alibi..
It's only a matter of doing things well and never give space for becoming jealous .
