So I thought I purchased a Nexus 7 32 gig, but after updating to 5.1.1 the storage is only reporting 5.3 gigs. Now I've been through all the post and have tried every way to clear everything, flashing, using TWRP, etc. with no success.
Now I'm wondering if the Nexus I have doesn't actually have 32 gig and that's the reason I've not been able to restore the system beyond the 5.3 gigs. Is there any reason that TWRP would report the incorrect storage size of 5.3?
When I access TWRP and go to "Mount", "Select Storage", or "Backup", they all report the Storage: Internal Storage (5330 MB). Does this mean that my Nexus 7 is not a 32 gig model?
Thanks,
Gene
@genegh most likely you flashed a wrong user.img which has only 8GB instead of 32GB, so the system does not see the rest of the storage. You can try to format the /data partition in TWRP, but I am not sure if it helps. Otherwise you need to get a 32GB user.img and you need to flash that.

Thanks so much for the quick reply, you have no idea how much it means to me.
While reading the other threads that were similar in issue, I noticed that they mentioned possibly using the incorrect user.img; however, when the member mentioned they got the image directly from //developers.google.com/android/images, most replies were that was the right place to go.
I've tried flashed several of the "nakasi" for Nexus 7 (Wi-Fi) from google and have not been able to fix the problem. So, I thinking that the problem isn't in the image, but rather at a base level with the system. For some reason the system believes that is has only 5.33GB and I was hoping that somewhere in TWRP would be the ability to fix this.
I have no idea when it comes to android, I was using my PC experience to guide me by looking at TWRP interface to the Nexus BIOS. I don't know and am feel quite low .

I know its supposed to have 5 gigs. I havent downloaded anything so I dont know where all the 4 + gigs went. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Barnes & Noble repartitioned the newest Nook Colors. If you had done even a hint of research before starting yet another thread you would know that.....which is why no one answered you last night when you asked this question....C'mon man this isn't customer service, do a search before you post.
How bout I did research and everything that i've seen has said that 5 gigs should show not 900 mb. The nook has 8 gigs. 3 are used for the os/repair and 5 for downloading things.
Nope, you are wrong.
New models made in May or refurb units as of May are partitioned for 1 GB of space.

No worries...I didn't mean to jump on you either. Just gets frustrating seeing new posts with the same old questions. Makes it tough to stay on top of the most current stuff and gets a little frustrating.
YeA i had searched but everything that came back said 5 gigs. Based on my reading of the threads that were posted theres no way to reparation the nook?

It's being worked on by many, but as of yet has not been solved. Conventional methods have come up empty. I'm quite sure we're getting closer to a solution though.
I was doing some research and came across this:
Here's how to convert a new NC (or one where you don't care about anything in /data and /media that won't be automatically restored by B&N) with only a 1GB /media space, back to one with with 5GB media space:
Boot a rooted Android system in the external SD card slot:
Access the rooted OS command line prompt, using either ConnectBot or ADB.
Fire up "busybox fdisk /dev/block/mmcblk0"
Delete partition #8 (the /media partition).
Note the size of partition #7 (the cache partition), and delete it as well.
Delete partition #6 (the /data partition).
Recreate partition #6 (the /data partition), to the size you want (say 1GB).
Recreate partition #7 (the /cache partition), to the size noted in step #5.
Recreate partition #8 (the /media partition), to occupy the remainder of the space.
Remove the SDcard and reboot.
When the NC boots its native system, it will recreate (just like a factory reset), the contents of the resized partitions. Yes, you will have to reregister. Of course, the same process, but with a different number in step #7, can give you more app space.
This is easily scriptable as well, and I fully expect such scripts.
Do you think this could work? I dont know enough about modding to try it. lol
hi,
i have a storage issue that i'll like to ask the gurus.. I've just moved from PSX's v8.5 (4.3) to PSX v3 (4.4) and along the way, I've made numerous backups just in case. after flashing v3 and hellscore b43, i ran into a storage space issue where my N4 told me i had insufficient space to install more apps, to work system functions, anything. Ive attached a screenshot of my storage, but it seems to be there is a good 5-6gb of space unaccounted for? i have v little songs in my phone, no movies, little apps as well. its rooted. can anyone point to as to how i can solve this?
thanks!
to add on, I've used storage analyser to better understand by storage, and it says i have 9.87gb available, whilte the stock storage details shows the number at 611mb.
help pls?

Try flashing SuperSU via the recovery.
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
hi, I've tried that, but to no avail..
ive also realised that system data takes up a huge chunk, more than 6gb. which is where most of the missing storage is. help, anyone?

Have you downgraded to the rom where you don't have this problem?
Sent from my Nexus 7 (2013)
I only just realised I was having the same issue when I got an insufficient storage available message while trying to update some apps. To solve it reboot into recovery then go on backup and restore and delete any unnecessary backups you have, if the ROM's working now then you could do with deleting all of the old backups and making one fresh one with the new ROM. Also do the 'free unused space' thing in CWM, I had no backups but somehow there was almost 3 gigs of space being wasted by CWM. There's probably something similar in TWRP if you use that

You've got the right app. check your /data directory to see what's chewing up space. I bet it's TWRP or other stuff stored by your recovery manager.
Use this great app to check whats taking up space: Storage analyzer
When u make full backups they won't show up in the system storage scan. Go to the file directly n try deleting an old backup. I guarantee u will see more space available after u do. Each backup is usually about 400-500mb depending on how many apps n other data u have

Or maybe you got shrinkage problem which is pretty normal when upgrading (seeing that you flashed 4.4.2 rom over 4.3 rom). Your 16gb nexus was shrinked to 8gb. The easiest way to fix it is by formatting your internal in recovery (or flash stock recovery and do factory reset). Do make backup of your things though cause you'll lose them.
I am new to the world of tech and have a (what I believe anyway) is a massive issue with my S7 Edge. I successfully rooted the phone and then for some unknown reason I used TWRP to change the file system on Internal Storage to Fat32 or Fat. Cannot say for sure. Apologies. Now, I have a phone which suggests that I am using 31GB of the 32GB on the phone yet I know that when I use TWRP to look at the size DATA only has 4GB of which there is 141MB free? The other 28GB is there but is inaccessible. I had all my photos and videos on there and they have all disappeared. One thing to note is that when I changed the file system of Internal Storage it factory reset the phone but did show me that it was 25GB space wise so I lost everything but it was trying to restore from a backup which just failed as there was not enough space I think although I did not get an error. I am unable to (proper) factory reset the phone due to multiple mount issues and also because I think it has something to do with not being able to write to the correct partitions. I am using TWRP 3.0.0-0. I go to Wipe/Advanced Wipe/ select Internal Storage, then Repair or Change File System and get the Invalid Partition Selection in red. The same happens when I select Dalvik / ART Cache. I have the latest version of ODIN. I literally have ran out of ideas and have invested in a 128GB SD Card which I will use for mass storage by using adb shell. I am hopeful there is an answer.

Was this issue ever solved?
I've updated to .253 with all the wipes last week and today I discovered I only have 16 Gb of internal memory now.
Has anybody encountered the same issue? What can cause such a problem? And how can I solve it?
I've been getting this issue but some reason, I'm not limited to 16, I'm limited to 22? I'm not sure.
Is the same information as the picture, if you check memory with a file explorer(Es file explorer for example)? On a computer what is the situation with memory?

I noticed it on a computer initially. It showed 16 Gb instead of 32 Gb.
Now it shows something even worse! Total irrelevance.
It is absolutely illogical. In file explorer? What about if restart your phone? Any differents?
No difference, reloading doesn't change anything.
I'm so puzzled.
Also getting this issue @ 16GB internal storage.
FWIW i'm using the XPower 3 debloat with the .253 kernal.
@jufofu, What will show if despite the small remaining space, continue to copy more information in the internal memory? Whether it will continue to collect more data in memory, which means just bad reporting of information on available memory ? Maybe factory reset or repair with Xperia Companion. If problem still there, then the option is service. If you decide to do this, copy your information from phone to computer before this steps.
@Poag, was the problem there on the previous firmware? Do you have any ideas about its origins?
@Monipeev, it doesn't copy files from PC when the small memory is filled.
I will try to flash it again this week. If it doesn't work properly I'll have to restore TA backup and go the the service.
To be honest, i can't remember. I just flashed .224 from Flashtool wiping everything and TWRP reports only 8GB for internal.....booting into system atm....
Would someone with a 32GB internal mind posting a df?
[edit] Ok thats given me back my 32GB internal storage, currently sat on a freshly imaged device with 10GB of 32Gb used internal.

How did you go about fixing this?
I have the same problem.
So this is supposedly a bug in .253? I'm glad that it can be solved by reflashing.
@MattyCurrann, you too got this problem after flashing .253?
So i
1- Downloaded the UK Customised 224 in Flashtool - XperiFirm
2- Flash this wiping everything in the 'Wipe' box.
3- Booted into Fastboot and flashed the .253+TWRP kernal listed in the XPower thread post #312
4- Booted in system and then set about resetting up the device from TitaniumBackups.

nope, NOT a bug in .253,
afaik it's been there on Lollipop as well,
existed on Lollipop firmwares, 185, 224, 253 MM firmwares
(I got it too on Z5).
It sometimes occured during flashing Firmwares via XperiFirm + Flashtool or flashing new ones via TWRP,
really weird "bug"
There is another thread regarding this bug:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/help/how-storage-t3398804/post67849319#post67849319
You can fix it without flashing anything - if you have TWRP recovery, just Repair /data partition in Wipe menu. If that doesn't help, try Repairing /system partition (that helped in my case).
Another cases of the same issue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/xpe...-repack-stock-kernel-dm-t3301605/post67317647
Edit: posted it without refreshing the page, basically the previous post covers it all.
flashtools sucks nowadays!
Repairing didn't help, but resizing /data works perfectly. I've got my memory back.

A little "how to" would be nice.
EDIT:
As TWRP kept giving me Errror 4. I did figure out what it meant by that.
It needs manual handling (answering questions) in cli.
I went on with "adb shell" on my computer while the device was started up in TWRP/recovery mode.
There I unmounted everything, and then I ran this command from adb shell:
Code:
e2fsck -f /dev/block/mmcblk0p42
There I had to answer a bunch of questions about orphaned inodes and other corruptions. (Tookl a while to answer them all. I could have used "-y").
Once done, the fs was marked as clean, and the rezise command in TWRP worked flawlessly. Problem solved.
Strange that it had so many corruptions/orphaned inodes, considering it was a new fresh flash made just recently with flashtool.
how did you update your phone?
Hi all, just seeing if anyone can tell me why the storage screen says I only have 1.5gb of free memory when DiskUsage says I should have a lot more?
I have rooted my phone and using Xpower rom.
Pics attached. Thanks everyone.
Curiously, I ran into the same problem yesterday after a session of flashing new firmware and restoring backup of my phone. It had never occurred before.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/z5-compact/help/z5c-reporting-incorrect-storage-size-t3564059
Someone in this thread said the problem went away after a few reboots. I've rebooted about 3 times now, still shows 16GB available instead of 32GB.
I'll probably do some more flashing/restoring later on to see if that fixes anything.
You're showing pictures of different mounting points.
/internal shown in second picture is it's own virtual partition
/system shown in last picture is also it's own partition and has its own free space
The free space shown in android storage will only display the free space on the virtual data/internal storage so it looks perfectly fine to me.
Also external sdcard won't add to virtual internal data storage.

Oh ok. Thanks for the reply. My total internal storage is meant to be 16gb. This is why I thought the two screenshots formed (most of) this 16gb.
So based on your information, where has the rest of my internal memory gone? The first DiskUsage screenshot says I have 8.24gb in total storage. Is the rest not usable because it's a private system partition?
Also I've attached another screenshot. Is it normal for the internal system to use up 7.76gb?
About 8GB for a Sony Android system ROM sounds about right, lots of bloatware and included apps. On a 16GB Sony phone, half is available for photos, music and apps/apps data.
That's why you should never buy a phone with only 16GB in 2016/2017. My Oneplus 3t with 128GB is a hair saver. ?

Uninstalling uninstallable bloatware will reclaim a few MB of space, but removing preloaded system bloatware won't help much in freeing up usable space. The system partition is a fixed size, generally inaccessible, and any unused space in there isn't counted towards total available free space.
BTW, I thought you were asking about the 16GB total space in the first snapshot in your original post. The Z5C has 32GB internal storage space, not 16GB. Just thought you should know.

Well, that's what I was trying to say in my original reply up there. I assumed you were confused about the anomaly in total internal storage, something that I recently experienced and was also reported by some other folks.
I've found a supposed solution after a bit of Googling, but I'm not sure if it's the right answer. I plan to test it out later on.
But yes, you're supposed to have 32GB total internal storage, inclusive of all partitions hidden or otherwise. After deducting the OS and stuff, there should be 21~22GB of usable free space left.

Yes, I can confirm a complete fresh flash of stock firmware restores the total space to 32GB. I didn't touch the system partition, so I'm not sure whether a repair of system in TWRP would do anything, and there's no means for me to test it now.
Hopefully, a restore of my nandroid backup will preserve the correct total storage space.
EDIT: Yup, restore successful and total space is 32GB. FWIW, the "solution" I mentioned earlier was a discussion for a Nexus device, and it said it's necessary to restore stock recovery first. Not sure the exact cause of problem or actual solution to fiz the problem, but anyway reflash worked for me.

Twrp system repair did not fix it.
Time to flash....
If you have twrp in boot, this problem happens.
The device ends up making the system read only, and then gives you the left over /data
Then when a function calls ro.hardware, its inaccessible.
You won't be able to fix it if you don't have TWRP in the recovery partition. When you do a restore, you'll get put in to a boot loop, if anything other than the data partition is selected
