installed a new daughter board in my 6p last weekend because the charging port was going out. but now when i connect to my PC it doesnt show up as an android device anymore. instead it tells me "unknown USB Device (Device Descriptor Request failed). ive uninstalled and reinstalled, restarted computer and all the other things i could think of but i've had no luck at all.
I cant even access it thru ADB. everything worked perfectly before installing the new daughterboard. and yes it is an OEM Huawei board that i installed.
any help or ideas on what i could do? thanks..really need to be able to save pictures and such off the phone, and of course, undate roms and other fun stuff haha

What happens when you put the old board back?
Honestly I haven't put the old board back in because it's such a pain to swap out.
I've had this exact same problem - installed a new daughterboard (trying to fix the muffled microphone issue) and the phone could not fast-charge or perform data transfer. Reinstalled the old daughterboard, and charging and data transfer worked again. Not sure what I'm missing.

Just ran into a problem which took me some time to solve. Thought I would share it to save other people some frustration.
After an adb reboot the i5800 got stuck in "modem" mode. i.e. android booted fine but gave a modem and a serial port over usb rather than adb. Reboots did not solve the problem.
The solution is to enter recovery screen:
reboot recovery
OR
press proper buttons to get into recovery mode
And then perform a reboot from there
Is this the same as *#7284# and selecting "PDA" on UART and USB, or just on USB? Or is this a completely separate thing?

Thanks so much for this!!!! After helping hack a friends build.prop to enable Apparatus compatibility in the Market, I found USB wasn't working properly anymore. Resetting changes in the phone didn't help (I had to do this via the phone terminal) although I at least managed to buy Apparatus before the sale ended.
After initially getting confused due to a lack of drivers and the occasional 'nH' showing up devices without drivers which made me think something was borked, I worked out from the VID & PID it was just the lack of drivers making (well I'm not sure why it did the 'nH' sometimes it got serial something instead), once I installed the drivers all was fine.
Except still mass storage wasn't showing and the Samsung connect manager didn't show up on my phone when I connected USB, nor did ADB work at all. In fact, it didn't even show up in the phone menu as debugging mode if I didn't start phone with it connected (or something like that). Funnily enough when I did get it the debugging to show up I did get the USB mass storage to show up in the phone, but it didn't help (it just unmounted the card which I think is all it ever does).
Anyway after a bit more fooling around I eventuall came across http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1215103 and the stuff about modem and mkasick's post which sounded a lot like it could be my problem. The code for that Samsung phone didn't work so I searched for the 5800 and came across this giving me the right code. Sure enough UART (but not USB) was set to modem instead of PDA. I was unsure whether that was wrong but changed it anyway and yep that fixed it!
I still have no idea what went wrong. I had thought may be the phone didn't like me rebooting via ADB but I've now done that several times. In fact most of the stuff except install a superuser update has been more or less repeated. I guess it was just some strange rare occurence that it somehow got changed. I did have to reconnect the USB while working the first time, not sure why but ADB lost connection then I found couldn't connect. Perhaps that's somehow related. Now that I know what to do, it's trivial but very annoying when I didn't. I still don't get why Samsung decided to make the connect manager (my phone doesn't have that) only to have some hidden option where it can be set to modem or USB.
Partially because of this, I never got to get Tilestorm HD become compatible in time for the sale although my friend wasn't so interested in that. (Eventually I worked out using the THC Tattoo modded market which reports a fake resolution enables it. Well, I also modified the build.prop but I don't know if that was necessary. I wasn't able to do it solely by the build.prop. But it was way too late by then to buy Tilestorm HD cheap.)

This may sound like crazy idea, but is your USB port/connector clean?
(The USB port allows for dozens of different phone functions when using very specific resistance between data pins.)
i bought a LG D802 32gb last night as i was using a 16 gb before i wanted to flash cloudy g3.. so i tried to install custome recovery twrp...

Hi all!
On my I9000 4-5 months ago the USB connection to PC went dead (unknown device error in Windows), but the phone was functioning normally. 3 weeks ago the phone frozed completely, and don't even started, was stucked at boot logo. I managed to enter download mode, but since the USB was not recognised, I could not reflash with a new rom. I tried several PC-s, several cables, many many times, with the seame error (unknown device). I sent the phone to the service, even they said that the main panel need to be changed.
Today I had an idea (brilliant!!) to heat the phone with a hairdryer. When it was hot, plugged on the USB cable, and a miracle happened! The laptop recognised instantly the Samsung Android device, and I managed to reflash with odin, and now the phone is working well, even USB is working now!!!
I dont know, maybe this will help anyone who has the same problem. It is worth a try!
Seriously????

Well I just hope this is not a joke. Am having th same problem. Am gonna try your solution out.
Thanks
And the hairdryer fried the lint in USB connector?
Using tooth brush could be a safer route to go.

Hi, this is NOT A JOKE!!!
The phone is working well since!!!
I was trying to fix a camera issue while on holiday with my phone but accidentally wiped some partitions during the rewrite of my rom my dad pulled the cable out and now my phone is totally unresponsive. If I plug it into my windows 10 laptop I get a device descriptor request failed error and I am unable to fix it. From reading an article on androidbrick I would post a link but I don't have enough posts it looks like it should show up as a com port but it does not for some reason all the drivers are installed and I have tried forcing the driver onto the device and it won't accept them. The fix I need is a way to get the com port to display so I can reflash and program the bootloader. I am still on holiday so currently have limited equipment basically the phone, usb cable and my laptop and sometimes wifi.
Any help would be appreciated a this issue is driving me crazy. :crying:

Sorry as this may be not much of a help to you but rather my experience with pretty much the same situation.
I couldn't turn on the phone and there were no signs of life when connecting it to a PC (only a message that USB was not recognized with the same description as you mentioned - device descriptor request...).
I tried to connect the phone on different PCs with different OSs (from XP to Windows 10), different drivers/tools, but there was always the same USB error displayed.
Eventually, I had to return it to the service center (it was under warranty) but they couldn't repair it, so luckily they sent me a new one
I have google this for hours with nothing! I connect my Nexus 6P to my PC and it doesn't recognize it and not only that but the usb connection options doesn't show up on the phone either. I am completely lost!
I have installed the drivers multiple times, i have looked up the mtp inf drivers and nothing happens. When I connect it to the computer it only says chaging on the lockscreen thats it! I have no idea how to fix this. I am trying to go back to stock because i lost root flashing a custom nougat build. everything works except twpt won't boot up anymore and just hangs at the splash screen. and of course I don't have root. can anyone please help me! thanks

Have you tried a different cord? If its not the cord the inspect the port on your phone to make sure no lint or crud is physically blocking some pins. Do you have developer options enabled? Maybe something got changed in there. Its never happened to me so these are just guesses. Maybe somebody smarter can help.

Mine gives a notification that the phone is charging when I connect to computer but if I click the notification it gives me the option to transfer files instead. You do have USB Debugging enabled on the Developers Menu, correct?
Hello guys
I have the same problem on my phone i tried everything i found on google and other forums, and the last option that i couldn't do is to send my phone to replace the usb port, but i have no warranty as i bought it already used. It's a shame that no one can find a solution here especially that the other forums at least tried to fix for some people but not here on xda which is the first in the world.

I've even changed my USB port and daughterboard twice. I am stumped. I got 3 laptops 2 running 10 and one running Ubuntu and mAid along with a tower running xp. I fix unfixable phones and resell them. I've tried EVERYTHING. I know this is an old thread but Any help would be appreciated.
hello I'm really hoping somebody can help me because I'm not getting answers anywhere I've halfway through a course to learn mobile tech repairs and I'm completely stuck on a Samsung SM g925a when trying to remove the FRP. I have written my class instructors and I'm not getting any response. I've downloaded all the drivers from Samsung I've updated them all but however it is not allowing me to connect the device to my PC so I can get it into odin to flash combination files. When I plug the device in to my windows 10 pc I receive a pop up saying the last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it and then in device manager when I open it it shows as unknown USB device device descriptor request failed. I tried to download the drivers again reinstalled and updated them and that didn't work. I changed all my cords tried it on every Cord I had and it didn't work, yet these cords recognized other devices I had. I also uninstalled the USB driver and then I ran the hardware troubleshooter still got nothing and then I also disabled fast startup none of this has worked. I also have spent countless hours researching on line and I'm just not getting any answers and I get the same troubleshooting ideas I've already tried however I did come across a program USB debugger r but I don't know if I had just downloaded it wrong or had the wrong firmware files but it wasn't working for me I thought maybe that would help me to connect to PC. I'm still learning and only halfway through the course but it seems like this is such an easy issue that I just can't seem to figure out is there anybody out there willing to help me figure this out please I'm sure something simple Im missing or forgetting but I've been dedicated to this phone and I sure can't figure it out it's stopping me right at the gate. Thanks in advance
