s7 edge brightness problem - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions and Answers

Hey I have s7 edge g935f .. with the exynos.. as the most of you know the s7 edge has a big problem with the screen . It adjust auto without the auto enable . . While watching videos on bs player or mx player I have been notice that the screen brightness change itself . I had the same problem with s6 edge .. can please someone tell me how to fix thiss problem? It's very disturbed ..... nougat 7.0 stock. No rooted . Stock kernel.
Edit:I should mention that when the phone is on dark place or a place with many lights the screen do the same thing. The screen adjust change auto. So maybe it's a sensor I don't know

I give you a hint. It is under the Advanced features. Not a problem but a feature.

As I write above it's already off the auto brightness.

Can someone help me or I have to throw the phone on the garbages?

Someone please . .

Things to try:
1. Go to Settings->Advanced Features->Video Enhancer and turn it OFF.
2.Open MX Player->tap 3 dots in upper right corner->Settings->Player->Screen->tick off the Brightness checkbox
Try these two solutions and report back!
Good luck

Hey dude. I done it right? I think the problem is with a sensor because if something cover the sensors in the area wirh the camerw then the screen auto brightness itself. Is the video enhance off? See the photo

No man. I think the prpblem is a sensor . But i heard all the s7 edge users have the same issue as me . What about you?

Man if something covers the sensors which are on the camera at the left, the brightness auto change itself .... also if i go in a darj place then the same thing. Or if i go in a place which have a lot of sun or light. THATS WHY I HATEEE this phone.. i paid 500 euros for it and i dont believe its happening

Well i found the issue but i dont know how to fix it. Well i download a sensor test app from google play that lets you test the sensor . I went to the light sensor and put my finger on the top of the phone where is the selife camera and i realise that when the auto brightness is off the screen is dim, and the sensor shows 0.0. When i change off the auto brightness and put my finger on the sensor the same thing happens. So its a problem from the sensor not a feature or settings. What i mean, i mean that when rhe auto brightness is off then the screen brightness change itself LIKE WHEN YOU CHOOSE ON THE AUTO BRIGHTNESS. Well i dont have any other option from put this s.hit phone on street so a car can break it. I dont belive itttttt

Any way to fix this annoying bug ?

I have the same issue, Samsung is ****, I'm switching to Apple
Hey Guys, This problem is also on the S8 and Note 8... I tried it in the stores
Don't Buy Samsung products, You'll end up dissappointed
Their Auto Brightness is a joke, It works when it's off too, And you can't turn it off
They don't want you to use high brightness because then their screens will have burn in quickly because they are cheap
and their batteries won't last too much
Oh wait.. And the SIM tray is Plastic haha, It broke and my sim card got stuck inside
Are you kidding me Samsung, This expensive phone has a Plastic SIM tray?
You must learn from Apple, They use Metal SIM Trays since 2010 or so.

Agreed , plastic sim tray , auto brightness bug, color peeling of around the usb ports. There are signs of sub standard built quality. But tell me honestly which other android phone has the best premium build quality without any issues. And apple , although fast and better build, its so much closed and limited OS, and pay for everything policy, forces oneself to choose android, and i wont say that others like lg, sony, huawei, oppo and htc etc have bad build quality, but they are neither good nor bad then samsung, all have their own downsides , because nothing is perfect, and to stick with what you have until it gets the job done is the best lifestyle. Good day !

Visibility of screen under sunshine

Hi all guys!
Anyone has tested the screen visibility under sunshine?
I have an HTC Touch and it's horrible...
Thanks!
It is visible but I won't say it is terrific. If it is not too good, I just need to tilt it a little and the screen will contrast and brighten.
Its horrible sometimes i think my phone is off..
I can barely make out the time in huge numbers
Actually this is another area that impresses me... I tried this out when I first got the phone and it is very readable/seeable... even in full sunlight I can see the screen... much better than my Kaiser/MDA Vario III

What screen settings are you using -- this thread includes responses that range from 0 to 10 and I suspect there are differences in settings. For exampled, have you turned off your screen autodimming feature?

I have left it on the Auto feature... at first I thought my phone had a glitch as the screen kept going dim... but it works really well... I also tried it in full light (by trying to reflect the indoor light to make the screen as obscure as possible, had to be indoors as its raining like a mother here) and even though the screen did become less readable I could still read the book I had in ubook... a plus for me...

maybe with a nice screen protector you may see something
I have the anti-glare one and I don't expect to see a bright screen in the afternoon
but maybe some screen protectors may help although I doubt it
it is really visible (if I'm not putting my sunglasses on), i was really impressed when i first got the phone. just make sure you set the auto dimming on.

I use martin fields screen protector and its great, so maybe that does have something to it...
uh, did you guys set the backlight to auto adjust? I mean at first I knew to save battery life I had to manually adjust the backlight 2nd to the dimmest. but I coudln't see anything while under direct sun. but somehow, on auto adjust, the backlight seem to work under it. I think the device has light sensor.

Note 4 super bright mode?

Hey guys, can someone else with the samsung note 4 exynos model try their phone in direct sunlight on auto brightness and tell me if the screen kicks into a super bright mode with high contrast and strange colours? You have to be in direct sunlight with auto brightness turned up. I'm getting paranoid about this and not sure whether to swap mine. I know samsung have just added assertive displays to the exynos models and possibly now snapdragon but not sure if this is whats going on.. it almost makes some colours look fluro.

Glad im not the only one then.. do your colours kind of go fluro?
Hmm just took my samsung tab s outside in bright light and it did the same must just be much more pronounced on the qhd display
At first I didn't like it, comes it makes the phone look all weird, but after a while I've really come to like it, especially when driving, I've reliazed, never once was it hard to view the display. Which IMO is awesome! I've never had a smartphone I could always accurately see the screen, in every type of light
I do outdoor hiking and I use the phone for navigation and taking photos. You do have to set the auto brightness to On for it to boost the screen brightness but it triggers after u turn on the phone screen instead if consistently. Battery is not an issue because I carry spare batteries
Anyway to keep the screen on at its Max brightness consistently? II don't care about color distortions either as long as I can see things!

Maybe tweak the levels a bit so that it doesn't activate until absolutely necessary, but removing it completely? Why? So people can start threads about how they can't see their screen outdoors?

Another wide spread issue? Auto Brightness broken? video inside.

Okay so theres been talks of the edge having a possible software bug breaking the auto brightness, and i believe it effects my phone as well. Can everyone please test? Its real easy to do.

I wouldn't mind trading it in for the s6. Only thing is I already have money invested in an edge case and screen protector or a 50 dollar restocking fee. I just want to know for sure if this is fixable or not. Is it sensor or software? I'm hopeful because of how fast samsung released an update for battery life, but that seemed app related and not firmware.
Sent from my SM-G925T using XDA Free mobile app
I see no reason this can't be fixed in a software update.
What exactly is the problem? Your video explained nothing
problem is the auto brightness is off, so why am i able to manipulate the sensor into adjusting the screen based on covering the sensor? Also, my phone cant get as bright or vibrant as the phone next to mine, unless i shine a flashlight into the sensor. This shouldnt happen.

Check if your display mode is Adaptive display....if it is, that will adjust your display. Not as strong as auto brightness but it will adjust it, especially in cases like shining a flashlight (similar to sunlight mode). If you wanna test, turn off auto brightness AND change mode to cinema instead of adaptive.

Ok wierd so its like auto brightness stuck on. Your not using adaptive screen brightness are you? Because I noticed mine doing some annoying adjustments even with auto brightness off but changing to amoled cinema and then turned auto brightness off and my screen would stay the same in all conditions. However turning power saving mode on also makes screen duller.

Same thing here. It is a very annoying bug. I will return my s6 edge because of this. I spoke with Samsung customer care (NL) and they were not aware of the issue, it is amazing. So probably even if a software upgrade could fix the issue, probably Samsung will not release it because they are not aware of the issue at all!
It is a shame that Samsung acts like that with a phone of 850 euro.

Ok good. But if Samsung didn't acknowledged the issue so fast, probably it's not going to address the issue with a software upgrade, isn't it? Moreover if this is the case ALL the s6 edge in the world must be affected, but someone is saying that his own s6 edge had not this issue, which I don't believe honestly. I also think this is software related.

Screen issues in SUNLIGHT .A very unhappy LG Fan.

Let me start by telling you that I am a fan of LG screens and lcds and I can't stand the AMOLEDs on cellphones and the unnatural colors. I have an LG TV, LG monitor and had G2 and the G3. I am a new owner of the G4 that I just purchased yesterday.
The reason I switched to this phone is to have better camera and better visibility in sunlight which is where I work. I work outside and need good sunlight visibility and take a lot of photos and videos outside.
The problem I have and I'm sure all the G4 owners will have this, is that the color of the screen fades out especially the greys and the blacks on screen. I'm not having the typical light bleed here. the whole screen fades out almost turning very very grey with texts and other colors fade out in color.
Its doing it on a cloudy day as well. Ive swtiched the phone out to a new G4 because of this problem and the issue is still there with the new phone. I'm really shocked by this because all of the reviews going around the net are raving how its visibility is great in sunlight!
I think LG messed up really bad here, made the display awesome indoors and wasn't fully aware that the lcd is sensitive to sunlight.
I was wondering if anyone else is noticing this problem.
To do the test, go to a random website or some site with text which is more noticeble than other colors(grey texts turn really white so its a better test), hold the phone out for 3-5 seconds then look at the phone. You'll notice that the texts are very grey or even white. It has to be done in natural sunlight. It wont work in indoor lighting.
Then turn the phone upside down for 3-5 seconds then look at the text again to see it come back to dark black or visible color.
Please tell me I'm not the only one noticing this....
I might never come back to LG after this one... At least for my cellphones...
I don't even think it's fixable with firmware updates... oh and my brightness is on 100% when I test it. I've tried it with auto as well and same thing with the first G4 and the new G4 I switched out.
I would hate to pay a restocking fee of $50 just to return the phone.... LG what should I do?!
Yes - I've seen this twice when outdoors at work this week. Hoping it's a software issue they can address? What has been said in the past?
Thanks for the reply. I hope its a software issue as well but I doubt it... I looked all over the internet and not one thing has been said...
I can't believe all the reviews are raving about the visibility outside.... how is this better than G3??? even the G2 had better visibility
I think its like the Note 4 it goes into a high contrast mode, but I use Lux Light for auto brightness and it doesnt do it anymore
Agree on that.
Additional the display isnt as bright as LG made me belive, my G2 is noticable more bright than my G4 ?

This is a design by LG - to lessen the contrast in direct sunlight, so that you can supposedly can see more. If you cover the light sensor, it'll revert. It only does it at 98% brightness or higher.
It doesn't help me, but it's doing what it's supposed to..
I have lux full version and it still does that...

Yes, that's because LUX controls brightness, not contrast.
You're talking about the contrast changing to lessen when under bright sunlight, no?
Did I completely misunderstand this thread?
How is that a design... Its not contrast... It doesnt do that indoors... It fades out everything

You can't replicate this indoors when you have 100% brightness on? That's weird, because I can...
How is it not contrast? Darker colors are not as dark in comparison to the lighter colors...
Does this video work for you:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lgg4/comments/38hfrw/lg_g4_the_little_things_hidden_features_maybe_not/
Yeah it doesn't detect it tell the lux gets really high, but if you take a flashlight to your sensor it will turn on. But either way its still easy enough for me to read I dunno guess I got good eyesight
I just took whole bunch of pictures of my kids at the pool full sun. I have a nexus 5 and 6 and the G4 is almost in another league as far as outdoor visibility imo. At least with the camera app. Haven't had the phone for long so will have to report back if I see this issue

review of the xiaomi mi 6 screen

I have been using the phone for 2 weeks now and just finish travel.. I have to say the screen is amazing. My background is in home theaters hobby so I know how an accurate screen looks like.
Xiaomi mi 6 screen is so good that I was watching Netflix throughout my plane journey and my Uber ride at midnight. The lighting 4000+ levels of adjustment is perfectly tuned and had great auto brightness throughout. It's a real joy to look at the screen. The feeling is similar to my nexus 5.
Having the full rgb matrix helps everything be sharp.
Colors so accurate yet vivid!
The back light is very even and uniform
The white point accuracy is near 6500k which is near perfect grey point (colors on standard mode)
Sunlight view is so convenient at 600nits +
Touch response.. Well not one plus 5 fast but similar to nexus 5 after some comparison
10/10 for the screen.. The best 1080p panel I've ever seen on a phone
Not only does it look so good... The feel is sooooo smooth and so fast, it's like gliding.
It's beautiful.
B4 this Mi6 I had a OPX wich had a awsome AMOLED screen. And when I bought this Phone I was afraid to get unhappy with the screen but no! It is very good Indeed! I still feel the differnce when things get darker, ofc.

I noticed that if you put your phone on a pillow or on the bed and then use touch screen test app you can notice that if you try putting more than 3 or 4 fingers it doesn't register them very well and it's hard for the phone to keep track of them but when you hold the phone in your hand everything works fine.

Thats fully normal. Modern touchscreens, are capacitive rather than resistive, so that means that you should be able to interact with it as long as you can bring a small current to the screen where you want to touch. So hold it with your hand and the circuit is closed, otherwise the touches will not be registered properly.
But it doesn't happen with other phones.
I also have the LG g3 and xiaomi redmi note 4 and they don't have this problem.

Near 6500k perfect white point
Loving the phone.
The battery is astonishing, the sound is excellent, the camera is good and the screen is super smooth!
What is NOT pretty is the micro scratches.
I have the Blue Ceramic and even though I've been Ultra careful, there are tiny scratches appearing on the back.
I've NEVER used cases and this phone feels so good in the hand BUT I'm Going to have to start using one here.... And I can't stand it.
