Location reporting: A global account setting, disables or enables location reporting to Google. When enabled you can have your location detected by whatever means the device has available, or set your own location manually. If you want to disable location reporting to Google, you only have to set it on one device as all devices pick up the same setting. Your location is used for customising your searches and other services.
When location reporting is enabled you may:
Report from this device: When enabled, that particular device is used to periodically update Google with your location. Typically this would be the device you have with you. If no device is set to report your location, your location isn't updated.
Enable location sharing: A global account setting, this toggles the setting on all devices. When enabled your location is shared with people you have chosen to see your location, typically used for Google Latitude. You can also manage the people who see your location.
Enable location history: A global account setting, this keeps a track of where you have been, not just where you are now. Only Google and you get to see this information. You can also delete this history via your Google account on the web. History is used to work out your home/work locations and what trips you might have taken, used for Google Now and Google Latitude.
When Location Reporting is enabled Google will then use the device to update it's own database of Wi-Fi locations. For example it will turn your phone on and obtain a GPS position then see what Wi-Fi points are in that area to update it's own database, as well as periodically updating your own location. This is why some people prefer to disable these features to avoid unnecessary battery drain.
You can stop all Google applications from using your device for location checks by going to Settings - Accounts - Google - Location Settings.
Global settings take effect on all devices and the web, for example setting your phone to report your location, then on your tablet disabling Location reporting, also disables it on your phone. So if you wanted to stop reporting your location, you only have to turn it off on one device and all other devices follow.
Hope that helps.
Regards
Phil
Yes thanks a lot. So basically, what location reporting does is just to send out loads of information to Google.
But then the weird thing is, even with location reporting turned off, i can still activate the option for letting my friends track me, and i can also still activate the location history. How is that possible when location reporting is turned off?

Yes you can still activate those settings, however as you are not reporting any location data, I think your friends just get your location as unknown and no location history is gathered. So the Location Reporting is the main switch for reporting back to Google, and the other options are not much use without Google having your location but you can still make a choice with those settings, which will only come into play when you start reporting a location to Google.

Hm ok, thanks. Also, is location reporting needed for Google Now in any way?
Can Android Device Mangager benefit from this in any way? I know that with location reporting off, device manager can still reach the phone and get a location but if it also gets location reporting data, then if the phone is off is it likely to have a more recent location from the last time the phone and location reporting was on? I'm just curious if I can shut it off and be safe.. its a rediculous battery hog.
So this is the strangest issue I have ever encountered.
I normally use my Google Calendar for all Notifications, Gmail Sync etc.. S planner normally just runs in the Background without actually doing anything.. And it worked perfectly till I upgraded to 4.4.2 and then suddenly this error started coming up
Whenever I restart my phone its like both these applications completely get reset. S planner becomes the default app for the Calendar and the notifications, sounds, vibrations etc all get automatically turned on.. While all the settings I had in my Google calendar app get completely wiped clean as if it were a fresh install.. All the notification, sounds, vibrations, default reminder time, last viewed and I don't know if I am explaining it right but the week view the appointments/entires get zoomed in rather than zoomed completely out which is what I set it to normally..
So now I have trolled the internet for a solution almost the entire day with no luck whatsoever.. Can anyone give me one? So as to ensure my sanity by days end?
I used an Xposed Module (app ops) to limit all of the permissions of the S Planner and that ensures that no notifications are coming on on the S Planner anymore.. however it is pretty pointless as a solution as my Google calendar is still reseting itself after every reboot..
Delete this post..
I'm just facing the same problem too, can you find a solution for it?
I have this issue too. Have you found a solution for it? Both Google and Samsung calendar notification settings reset upon phone restart.
Also, it seems that kitkat is messing with how my phone, or at least third party apps, write to my SD card. I miss jelly bean already.
Same Issue Here - AT&T Galaxy S4
Exactly the same issue here on my Galaxy S4. Only been happening since the 4.4.2 update. Can't disable the (rather hideous) Samsung calendar app, either... I've taken to changing the notifications from pop-ups to emails for events created on my calendar, so that I at least get the notifications.
Edit: also worth noting is that this is happening after a hard reset (I performed one after installing the OTA update and using it for a few days in hopes that this would be resolved). No dice.
I have the same problem on Note 3, it is annoying as hell..
I have the same issue on Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4. Does anyone have a solution?
please do a factory reset and see what happened. or remove your google account and add it again

A factory restore did not work for me.
I also have been trying to find a solution to this annoying problem. On Kit kat. Driving my crazy..
If factory doesnt solve it the easiest way is to download your region firmware and flash it through odin.

I tried flashing the firmware again, it still didn't solve the problem! This is driving me crazy =/
i'm almost sure this is due to some kind of "security" inside samsungs implemntation of 4.4.2 because
this applies also if you install for example the new messaging from s5, it will also be replaced with the "old"
version after a reboot. also ad-away does sometimes not work on 4.4.2, as if it doesnt get proper permission
to write to /system, even on a fully rooted device!
maybe it has something to do with the full implementation of SEAndroid, see here:
http://selinuxproject.org/page/SEAndroid
this is really annoying!
I am getting the same problem and tried emailing Samsung Customer Support and this is their answer...
Your question
I don't like S Planner and would like to use Google Calendar. S Planner cannot be disabled, therefore I turn off its notifications and enable notifications on Google Calendar. Every once in a while, S Planner notifications enables by itself and Google Calendar notifications get disabled. Why is it not letting me choose my calendar app?

I hate customer service responses like this. It's as though they didn't read your question...
I'm still waiting for a solution to this other than flashing another rom or rooting, although I doubt Rogers or Samsung will care.

Any news on that?
Same problem like you guys...
Same problem here. I have an ATT S4. I used to have notifications disabled for Samsung calendar with 4.3. After the OTA update to 4.4, they grayed out that option, just to annoy us in particular. The app cannot be disabled or turned off now. I recently installed the Graviton custom rom and I continue to have double notifications. Because now I have root, I could use some hard measures to stop Samsung calendar. I don't want the calendar system to stop working for the Google app though. Does anyone know a way of removing the Samsung app safely? Will Google calendar continue to work?
I wonder if I should stop buying Samsung.
Has anyone tried wiping their phone and see if the problem persists?

My Samsung Galaxy Y GT-S5360 has Android version: 2.3.6. My phone isn't rooted.
Recently some unknown app is using my 2G packet data mysteriously. I am on a cheap internet plan, so this uses up good percentage of my data; though I can ignore it. But my phone becomes hot (~35° C) and obviously battery gets used up. The mysterious usage eats up data ranging between 4-20 MBs. I am unsure if it is random or just that I am lucky to notice this and stop it before it goes SPARTA.
To find out, I tried out various usage monitoring apps, but that none helped to find out which app uses the data. The overall usage in the monitoring app accounts to the used sum, but no signs of what app it is.
I just have Google account(with sync off for Picasa albums) and WhatsApp listed in my Accounts and sync settings. Both have been ON since the day I have this phone, but this thing is happening recently, so I cannot blame them. Also, I do not have much that'd get synced and use this lot of data.
I have disabled auto update of my phone and the Play Store apps.
Due to low internal memory, I have uninstalled all of the default app's(i.e Google Map, Talk, Mail etc) updates except Play Store.
For having a clear idea I will list down the apps whose services are ON on my phone:
WhatsApp
Rocket Player - com.jrtstudio.AnotherMusicPlayer
Assistant - com.speaktoit.assistant
Battery Solo Widget - net.maicas.android.batterys
Notification Toggle - de.j4velin.notificationToggle
DRM Content - com.sec.android.provider.drm
Software Update - com.wssyncmldm
Email - com.andoid.email - I do not use this. Never used it.
Google Services (2 processes and 3 services) - Cloud-to-Device Messaging service, NetworkLocationService, Google Message Service.
Messaging
SnsService
Time
SyncmlDS - com.smlds
Maps * 2 (dunno why, but I see 2)
Software update - com.sec.android.fotaclient
Swype
I had linked all the possible apps to their Play Store page for your convenience to know about the app if in case you didn't, the system didn't allow me to, it says I need minimum 10 posts, upon which I do agree.
I had a thought if the counter on my service provider's side is bugged, but I have seen the uplink and downlink symbols continuously lighted, I switch on my packet data and find a crazy amount of data getting accounted in my usage.
PS: I stay in Mumbai, India. I am on Aircel's GSM network.
Will be thankful if you can help me find a solution to this problem. I have tried to provide most the information that I thought would be helpful, please ask if you need more information.
Thanks for reading such big post.
none of those apps listed (if downloaded from the playstore) should cause large ammounts of data usage
Whatsapp out of all of them would most likely be the largest
If your phone is hot its most likey an app is running all the time stopping the phone from going to sleep (as long as you havent got the phone on charge as this will also stop phone sleeping)
you can use this app to see what app is stopping the phone from sleeping
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.uzumapps.wakelockdetector&hl=en_GB
All you can do is flash stock rom via odin and then re-test if you feel you have a rouge app
I've been using Outlook on my Galaxy S5 for a while now and was getting email notification on my watch (Moto 360 2nd gen) without difficult. Then I just stopped getting email notifications. I appear to still be getting calendar notifications, but not email.
I did two things around the time when the notifications stopped:
1.) Installed an app on my phone create extra vibrations on the watch when notifications were received (Feel the Wear).
2.) Setup the default sammy calendar to sync with my work's Exchange calendar so I could get calendar info in WatchMaker.
To trouble shoot I've tried:
a.) Uninstalling the app listed above and removing the calendar sync setup.
b.) Uninstalling and re-installing MS Outlook
c.) Verifying that Outlook is not listed as a block/ignore app in Android Wear
d.) Forgetting and reconnecting my watch
e.) Verified that I'm getting outlook notifications properly on my phone.
f.) Searching google and xda... couldn't find anything, but I'll admit I didn't do a super huge search here in xda.
Anyone have any ideas? I'm working around this right now by using eNotify, but I hate to use additional programs to do something that I should be able to do without them.
I have the same issue. About 2 days ago Outlook stopped sending notifications to my watch (LG Watch Urbane). I still get them on my phone, but they do not get sent to the watch.
I do not have Feel the Wear and I have not made any recent changes to how my phone syncs anything. I have also tried disconnecting and reconnecting everything and confirming that Outlook is not on the notification block list. I updated the Outlook app from the Play Store today, but still no joy.

I've tried even doing a factory reset on the watch, and this has only led to bigger problems. Now ALL notifications are being super temperamental for me.
Same problem here. I'm glad to see someone else is experiencing it. I've found nothing helpful on google about it.
This link here:
https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-wear/KV62Rs3fZHs;context-place=topicsearchin/android-wear/notifications$20stopped
is saying that it's a Microsoft issue. Can't verify that info, but it does seem consistent with the fact that we all seem to have noticed it stopped right around the same time and it's only MS Outlook that did it.
Same thing here on my Huawei Watch. My workaround was to restart notifications from the stock email app, so at least I won't miss anything. If it's fixed and I start getting double notifications I'll turn them off on the stock app again.
Pull down previous version from apk mirror and give it a shot.

Reviving a bit of an old thread here, but I finally got around to trying out this suggestion and it works. I pulled version: 2.0.17 (106) and installed it. I'm getting notifications on my watch again.
Current version is 2.0.36, which was just released yesterday it seems. I tested all versions on APKMirror between 2.0.17 and the newest and 2.0.17 seems to be the last version that will send notifications to Android Wear.
Where I can get the 2.0.17 version?
Thanks

APKmirror: http://www.apkmirror.com/?s=outlook&post_type=app_release
Make sure, if you do this, that you disable automatic updates in Google Play Store app. Otherwise it'll just try to overwrite outlook with the newer version automatically.

I believe I did submit a report, but I'll do it again just to make sure.
On a side note, after trying a BUNCH of different programs, here's what I finally settled on:
I'm using the newest version of MS Outlet. This obviously doesn't get notifications to my watch, so I'm running AquaMail and using the imap interface to get push updates from my Exchange Server. AquaMail did the best job in terms of speed and notification type, at least for me.
Others I tried:
Cloud Magic: Speed is decent, but I only saw the first notification on my watch. Subsequent notifications never went to watch until notifications on phone were cleared.
BlueMail: This was horrible slow for me. Even 5+ minutes after Outlook or Cloudmagic would see the email Bluemail still hasn't received the message. Not sure on notifications on watch.
Mailwise: Very fast on receiving new email, and the notification showed on the watch for each notification, but after the first one you just get a list of outstanding notifications for Mailwise so you don't get to see the full subject, title or body of the newest notification. Outlook in version 2.0.17 (the last one that sent notifications to the watch) did the same thing.
After pulling 2.0.17 my watch is receiving notifications again. I have also reached out to support with this info. I am running Marshmellow and everything seems to be working fine. Hopefully, they will fix this on their latest release. For now, all Outlook updates are off.
Thanks again!
Thanks for this I thought I was going crazy as I think I just started using Outlook right before that update came and removed the watch notifications.
I noticed this too, I assumed that it was a change to the security policy... it'd be nice to have it work again
Just got this back from Outlook support :
Hello Andrew
Thank you for contacting Outlook Mobile Support. I understand your concern but we no longer support Android Wear. If you would like to address these issues then you will need to contact the retailer! I apologize for this inconvenience.
Warm Regards
The "retailer" you refer to is Google. They support the android wear app and the watches. The issue is that the outlook app is not sending notifications to the Android o/s in a normal manner. Every other app works just fine. Only the outlook app has this problem. The notifications did work until the app was upgraded beyond version 2.0.17. Something changed that broke the notifications at that point. I do hope you will continue to support your app and the android wear community!
Hello Andrew
That is when we stopped support the Android Wear devices. We will support Android Wear when Android Wear advises us to again. We enjoy helping! I apologize for this inconvenience again!
Warm Regards
So they know it's busted but won't fix it unless Google calls them??
That is horrible and typical M$.
It is not free, but touchdown has exchange activesync with push notifications. I am a teacher and it is a huge help with all the email I get.
Alternatively, you could downgrade outlook and not let it update.

Figures. I found it really useful to have work email and calendar notifications sent to my watch as I am not always at my desk. I reported the "bug" and got basically the same response as above. I guess the community will need to come up with another Microsoft work around. Does anyone know of a killer feature or bug that was fixed between 2.0.17 and current? Trying to decide if the juice is worth the squeeze.
Hello everyone. Does anyone use the reminder application? I use to put my reminders by location type when arriving at a certain location he warned. But I think since the last update last week I no longer work by location. I've tried in several different places. I have already deleted the application data but you are not telling me when I get to the indicated site. Any help or anyone with the same problem? Thank you
I've been using it for when I get to work and it triggers as I park.

yes i also have the same problem,
I've never been able to get location to work on my T-Mobile Galaxy S8.
I just set it up yesterday for the first time and it's not working.
So... I find this interesting. I will set a reminder for home and as I drive past my backyard the reminder triggers (I back onto a berm). When I set a location it accesses google maps so I have home and work designated in Maps so I don't have to keep adding addresses. I really like reminders because I always know where they are and they have a manual clear which I can't find easily in google Reminders.
Edited to add - so you can only use "here", home and work apparently. Definitely not as robust as Google.

Can you guys post that app? It would be very usefull for us, who don't own the s8!
Thanks!
