Question about root on Galaxy A9 Pro - Galaxy A3, A5, A7, A8, A9 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey everybody! I rooted so many devices in my life, like Asus, Motorola, etc, but this is my first Samsung device, and I want to know: root is a good idea on Galaxy A9 Pro? I know that I can't acess knox and Samsung Pay again with root, but I don't care, I mean: The performance and battery continuous the same thing? Thanks!

A9pro root is possible.. TWRP also is present. But only 1 custom rom is there. No dev support for A9pro otherwise. So better stay stock if you can. As far as battery life is concerned, go with Package Disabler Pro for better results.

Totally agree with you mate.
As you`ve mentioned actually there is no development for this beast. And Sammy has also almost zero support for this device (not even Nougat update yet. still on MM!) Though I`ve rooted my device (usually as I always do with every devices). But obviously with stock MM.
BTW, I`ve searched a lot in web, but can`t find any device like this one, which has a great XDA support. Have you any idea ?

Mi Max Prime is a good option. Actually the battery of MiMax is lasting longer than a9pro in all stock.

M8, you have rooted haven't you. After rooting, what changes have you made? Care to share please...
(Also, oneplus 3t is a good option as far as dev support is concerned, but battery only 3400mah)

Thanks mate for your sharing.
Mi Max Prime is a good phone, but the only issue is Hybrid Sim. Can`t use it with Dusl sim and SD card. I need dual sim with dedicated memory slot.
OP3T is alsao a very good choice. But battery is only 3400mah (as you`ve mentioned). I`ve read somewhere in web that OP5 is comming (though I think it`ll be more expensive). I think getting a device according to need is really very hard.
Now come to your point - after rooting I`ve installed Xposed with some modules, audio mod, S8 launcher, Xwidget app etc. Searching some ported S8 apps (theme centre, clock package, gallery etc) for installing. I`ve tried S8 Themestore app, but it`s not working. This is my setup for my A9 Pro right now. It would be very nice if there is a ported working AOD app of S7/S8 (like A7 - 2017, C9 Pro). Though it`s not possible right now. Coz there is no custom kernel/ Rom released for our A9 Pro yet. As it is a kernel related feature, this app is not ported by any Dev yet. I think it`s an excellent device, but there is no development for this device. That`s why I`m thinking to switch over to other device. But can`t find any device aqccording to my need yet.

True. Aod would be nice. Have tried playstore alternatives but those don't work as good as s7/s8 aod. + battery drain. Even nougat won't bring aod to us. Sad.

You`re right mate.I`ve tried many customization app from PS. But almost each app has the common issue - that is battery drain. That`s why it`s always better to have this type of custozation app as rom - native.
BTW, have you any idea about when our A9 pro will get official Nougat ? Or whether it`ll get or not ?
A5 already has got, but A9 pro not yet.
Really confusing Sammy. :silly:

Was about to talk on nougat. It's such policies of samsung that makes me mad. A5 gets it first not a9pro. (A7 too now)
Did you happen to use substratum theming? Any idea? Will it work now that you are rooted?
Regarding dual sim issues of mi max, go for 128gb prime & use dual sims. I used to do that.

Well said mate. :good:
Undoubtedly sam`s policies are very strange and it can make anybody mad.
A5, A7 has got official android N and good XDA supports too. I `don`t know why ? May be these are the most popular devices in A Series. Really sometimes I feel very disapoint about A9 pro. There is no development atall, even after a year !
BTW, do you have Mi Max Prime still now ?
If so, as an user, what is your feedback about this one ? Is it really a good substitute of A9 pro ? Would you share your feedback/personal experiences with me ? I think it`s better to use PM instead of this thread.
And for Substratum theming - I think it`s a theme engine based on CM, and we can`t use it in TW-based rom (may be I`m wrong). I`ve to studdy about this. But really it`s a good thing for our A9 pro, if We can use it.

Am I getting this right, not a single custom ROM for SM-A510F?

Hi, just wondering what's up. I'd kill for CM12 or 13 on my brand new a5 2016.. what gives?
thanks!
We waited more than a year for the A5 2015 edition to get roms, and there are only about 2 serious developers working on it. It is likely that you will get very little to zero support for your phone, even less if you have the Exynos variant. If you want big custom rom support, buy a flagship or a Nexus. That is the best thing you can do. And what I have realised is before you buy a new phone, first search the XDA forums to see which is more popular and which have the most support.

Hey bro, I'm waiting too for any custom rom on my a3 2016, coz i'm getting sick of using laggy and bad looking touchwiz.
Please Devs, do smething for our devices....
I've always used CM or CM-based custom roms on all my phones, but (never thought I would say this) I'm quite liking TouchWiz. Everything works, no bugs. Good stock apps like calendar, camera and email. Theme engine is good enough. Unbelievable battery life.
Just root, install xposed, and you're good.

agree. I have used kf rom for several weeks . but now back to the stock rom
You can port CM by yourself. There are a lot of porting guides on the internet, but... there aren't developers because there aren't much people with that device, maybe later there will be some developer with that phone or maybe not. As jnvdh06 said u have to buy a nexus if you want lots of roms, because google release all sources

Why is Development for the S7 edge I S7 dead?

Good Hello Everyone,
so I just got my S7 edge today aaand the first thing I do after getting home is obviously visit the S7 edge section on xda! but oh boy... what's this what I'm seeing! or should I say not seeing? basically no roms and not a single custom kernel!!! I'm deceased:crying:.
WHY? WHYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY??? :crying:
Development on the S6 was simply great. Switching to a Note 5 well not so great but had some gems. But now "upgrading" to a S7 edge and being faced with this tragedy? Oh man I hope this changes in the near future.
I wouldn't expect any change to the U.S. version. If rooting is really important to you, return the phone while you can.
I have to ask, though: Why didn't you look at XDA before deciding what phone to buy?

I was wondering the same thing.....
Because 2016. Flagships dont really need any development now. The purpose of custom roms was better battery, faster speeds, less lag, etc. But today's flagships already have all of those things. There are no improvements you can make. I have stopped rooting/ROMing my phones since last year because i just dont feel the need anymore. You will probably get a few roms in the future anyway , but I dont think the community will be anywhere near as active as before in the development section.
I'm happy with this phone the way it is actually! So far not missing root for a month now. I shudder to think all the time I spent the past six years rooting, flashing, fixing, etc.
Besides that's what a Nexus is for!

I wouldn't go that far as saying the development has stopped. There are coming custom Rom. Tho, not as many as before, I'll agree with that.
When it comes to custom kernel, you can have a look at this tread
Apparently Samsung priorities security because of Samsung pay.
When it comes to what @mahdibassam says, I disagree. A good example was the S6, who had major bugs from Samsung side. The the first to fix it was this community with the custom roms.
There is always room for improvements.

Well, if a phone is buggy, then that warrants the need for a custom rom. E.g. the LG G4 was in dire need of improvement. But can you give me one area where the S7 edge is lacking and would need a custom rom to fix? I really cant think of any.

If you're happy with the S7 as it is, then that's good. But for me, and many others, the phone ain't complete "mine" until root is there, and maybe some custom roms, where they are already debloated and deodexd.
It's all about custom preference
Especially the kernel part is important for me, as that's the real thing when it comes too set the phone free, and really get the use of all the power the phone holds.

Development will begin, it is still a new phone. The software on S7 is less intrusive but I fully understand you would like a customized device experience and being a flagship device you assumed this one will be well supported by the developers(which it will, just a matter of time).

Is not been released more than a month. We already have root and a handful of Roms.
Not sure why you think development is dead. Just at the moment is not really required as the phones are smooth as it is.

Seriously?
-Viper4Android
-Xposed (and therefore essential modules like Xprivacy, Xtouchwiz, MinMinGuard, YouTube AdAway and App Settings)
-Adblock (non-root ad blocking solutions are mediocre at best)
-AFWall+
-Titanium Backup
-Greenify (will work without root but hibernation of apps needs to be manual)
The list goes on. You can choose not to root, but you can't say improvements can't be made to stock by doing so. That will never be the case in my view.

Of course there are improvements to make. There always is. Stock is never heavily debloated or as efficient as custom, as stock should be over stable.. So customer's don't complain about problems.
If the battery and speed are good stock, you can just make it even better custom. Like change alarms and wakelocks on thing you personally don't need. Debloat things running in the background, hibernate them, set cpu work queues, change network when screen of and so on.

I totally get what you saying guys, I am just giving my own opinion, as you are. Each to their own i guess. I just dont see the need to put myself through the hassle of root and recovery and the manually flashing every update through recovery, and then a clean install with every new base and etc. The phone is just good enough as it is out of the box, FOR ME. I would love to have Greenify again, but frankly the battery life is just really good and I dont feel the need to go through the trouble to get it , and I have never used Xposed anyway.
But all in all, what puts me off from going the custom rom way these days is 1) The phone is just perfect as it is (again, for me) 2) I cant be bothered to flash every update through recovery and etc and do a clean flash with every new base and all the other stuff that comes with custom roms
But hey, this is the beauty of android isnt it, it caters to everyone, including me and you

Ad blocking on non-root is via VPN. It's ropey and unreliable at best. Certainly it doesn't hold a candle to what can be achieved with root and proper hosts editing. Also, Xprivacy for me is essential, I'd go so far as calling it my most important application. Combine it with a firewall like AFWall+ and, in terms of privacy, my phone is locked down. Non-root firewalls, like non-root ad blockers, work on VPN, and are again unreliable in comparison. Plus you can't protect against data leaks on boot. But I guess it comes down to what we want from our phones.
LOL. Does this question really need to be asked? If you look around in the forums you'll see that the dev community for this phone is almost non-existent because of its locked bootloader.

Updating possibilities for Samsung Galaxy Note 2

My note 2 is updated to 4.4.2. It is rooted. I have Xposed framework installed. I use the phone -as phone, for messaging (WhatsApp), browsing, note taking (Handwritten) - mostly using "Write" APP, and some illustrations using "Write" or sketching Apps. I use Google Handwriting Input as keyboard for English and Marathi (Indian Language).
The software is showing the age and phone has become slow. Cleaning provides some temporary relief. To address this "problem" and to experience the latest version of Android, I'm looking to update it to whatever is possible. I scanned through many threads and found out following:
1. There are quite a few Marshmallow ROMs for Note 2. CM 13 and Resurrection ROMS seem to be most used/discussed. There are few more (like Bliss), based on CM.
2. These ROMs, though provide latest Android version, do not provide the access to S pen.
3. For accessing S - pen DN4 seems to be the most preferred choice. As I understand, It is android version 4.4.4 - not the latest.
4. S-Pen accessibility/functionality is also available through SPenCommand APP (Paid). It's available for CyanogenMod, AOSP and MIUI ROMs.
I'd appreciate any help/suggestions on choice of choice of ROM and any experiences on using SPenCommand with any Marshmallow ROM. Any pointers on what could be pitfalls, or, nasty surprises, in the process are most welcome.
Thanks and Regards
Vikas Garud, Pune, India.
I've tried most of roms available for note 2
Miui/RR Rom/Rubbaband and much more :|
it looks like Eclipse Rom by Ac is the best out there, its based on 4.4.4 but heavily themed like s7/N5 MM .
go for it
Thanks Iskander_mal for sharing your experience!
Eclipse V8
Let me tell you my opinion as a heavy flasher on Note 2, S3 and some other phones that I own.
So we're talking about Note 2 now.
If you need new stuff, very high android experience gor for Unofficial CM13 builds by Trafalgar Square: what's not working now on he's latest build: gps, youtube in Chrome, SD Card as internal storage.
If you want something stable and fast but you don't really need the newest android go for the Official CM 11. You get OTA updates almost every 1-2 weeks and new security updates. Everything I tested so far works there.
In my opinion OCM11 and UCM13 are the best ROMs for you.
Eclipse ROM is themed and optimized with Agni Kernel. I'm not using it. I'm more into stock android because stock is faster.

Thanks "andrewKode" for detailed response. I am looking for something stable and fast. I'm not looking for cutting edge android features. Official CM11 seems to be the way to go for these requirements. Just one doubt: How do you get the S-Pen functionality? I don't need anything fancy - scribbling on some APP like "Write", or sketching on some APP would be sufficient for me. Off course, anything extra is welcome!

I remember when I first flashed CM10 on my galaxy note II back in early 2013, there was an app on Playstore called Papyrus. It almost had same features as the stock note taking app provided by Samsung. You can check it out.

Thanks. I was under impression that the stylus itself may not be supported. I've played around with Papyrus and it's good. I'm not particular about Samsung apps. All that I'm looking for is ability of the styles (S-Pen) to scribble something. Your response has relieved me.
Vikas Garud.
All custom roms support Stylus. Some touchwiz based custom roms also support Air Command features.
Note II was released with android jelly bean 4.1.1 which had a strange bug called Sudden Death Syndrome. That bug prompted me to root my phone and install custom ROM in it. But after flashing CM10 I missed Samsung's note taking app as I was by that time so much used to it. I was also looking for note taking app and came across papyrus.
Can someone help me root my Sprint (boost mobile) note 2? I know nothing about rooting or roms or any of that. Just letting everyone know. I'm not very tech friendly when it comes to rooting, roms, flashing or any of that. Thanks in advance! Oh and what would the benefits of rooting and installing those roms be? I have noticed my note 2 hasn't received any updates from Samsung like the person said it would when I bought it from them??

Marshmallow 5Gghz hotspot / Fast Charging
Im still looking for an appropriate upgrade for my CM 10.1 (4.2.2) install on my n7100.
I'm stuck on it since I've had quite the charging issues over time.
I use NEAK kernel to ensure fast charging (2100 mA) adjustable up to 2900 mA (but I don't know how realistic that is to achieve.
Any ideas on fast charging Kernels/ROMs?
Anyway I'm hoping that a new Marshmallow ROM gives access to establishing a 5Ghz wifi hotspot on the device.
In theory the API from Android 6.0 allows this.
Has anyone tried this OR if using a MM based ROM could you have a look?
I have that feeling though I'm not going to be able to get both
DN4 v2.1 makes you feel that you've got a touchwizz for note 4, seems to works great but I've flashed my efs also after flashing adblock host, wifi is stuck 15mins after boot... otherwise of you like samsung stuuf it's fun. btw I'm a total nub!
Then I've tried CM12.1 lollipop by Ivan, everything works, flashing host file with moab seems to introduce latency... Sometimes it did freeze. at this time VR was broken.
Now I stick with CM13 still by Ivan, even though it's not the latest, everything works flawlessly so far! As usual adding a few MB size file host is not perfect for latency flashed batch cm13, gapps nano, moab after being fully wiped.
Even if VR didn't work, it's no longer an issue.
By the way you may need the latest Bootloader, mine is PC1. There is a cap in BL, once reached a special version, you may not be able the remove it easily. I havent tried to remove that, because I'm a total nub and I've got only my daily device to play with
Globally, I was expecting much more trouble! Just try to fly everthing in a row, otherwise it did added extra freezes and latency in my case
hey i went through same problem as you are now.
i have note 2 and i am running resurrection remix marshmallow and to be honest i think its a better option to run this rom on our ageing device than going for stock 4.4.4 roms.
as for spen functionality ,look at my signature, there is a link that provides alternatives to touchwiz/spen functionality.
Honestly RR-MM is the best rom there for our phone<<<<personal preference of course
just try roms and see what fits your needs.
here is a link, which may help you for spen cynogen or aosp by fizzingbees

My friend, listen to me. Do not listen to anyone else here. If it wasn't for Cyanogenmod 13 and Android 6.0 I would have thrown my phone into trash by now. It was so bad and crappy and laggy (and all Androids before Lollipop were). You know people at google work hard to issue out new versions of android to improve performance and everything. Lollipop was a huge jump! They (samsung) didn't give us update to Lollipop or newer because you are expected to buy new Note 4 or something.
Recently I had to revert to stock rom (4.4) for a while and I couldn't believe my eyes. It was the same hardware, the same phone! How could just software make such a huge difference?
Now I see you use s-pen and that may be a problem (i lost my s-pen a while ago so I don't know how it goes).
Anyway, install any rom with android 6.0 and you'll see yorself what I'm talking about. If you don't like it you can always go back, but who in the world would do that?

I have that feeling though I'm not going to be able to get both

regarding your battery charging,i just cant begin to understand why you want to charge your battery at such high mah, given that samsung stock kernel charges it around 1800-1900mah. I hope its not a phony kernel feature otherwise its a miracle that your battery hasnt exploded yet.
i am using agni kernel and you can max charge at 2000mah which is pretty fast given my phone charges from dead to 100% in 1 hr 30min.
for 5gh wifi api,i hope you know what you are talking about. i am in no way expert but having a api and actually having a hardware that support and make use of that api are two different concepts.
i have MM ,so if you want me to,i can check it((if you tell me how to))

I've tried most of roms available for note 2
Miui/RR Rom/Rubbaband and much more :|
it looks like Eclipse Rom by Ac is the best out there, its based on 4.4.4 but heavily themed like s7/N5 MM .
go for it

dont you feel that eclipse rom is somewhat heavy and slow when compared to RR-MM rom.

Samsung Galaxy S10 +

So, first of all, im new here, yay me!
Second, im uncertain if this is the correct place to post this, if not, I do appologise.
I've been reading through forums for a few hours now, I recently got my S10 (I've been an iOS user since iPhone4) and it seems JB/Root is quite different for adroind.
I read up on KingRoot and heeded XDA warnings and stayed away. My question here is.. Is there any "safe" way to currently root the S10+?

At the moment it is not possible yet. It also depends on the chip of your S10 +. There are two variants, one with snapdragon and one with Samsung's Exynos. I think the latter can soon be rooted. It requires "Magisk" and the developers are working hard to make it compatible with the S10 + (Exynos version). You may want TWRP, a custom recovery. You need it to flash Magisk as soon as it arrives for the S10 Plus. So if you have the Exynos variant, you can watch the following thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s10-plus/how-to/s10-s10-twrp-discussion-t3909530
First of all, I like Apple like Samsung or whatever. The S10 + raises the question of what you really need root for.
Personally, I use a few applications that require root. But the OS of the S10 + is in my opinion already so well and extensively configurable that root lost at least for me in importance. That's different with Apple, at least in my opinion. By that I mean, on my last smartphone (Oneplus 6) I did not want to get along without root. With a few tweaks, it was possible to significantly improve the performance and at the same time the battery life. Furthermore I could raise the screen brightness to a value, that is now comparable to the S10+ out of the box. Changing some stuff and other settings, that does not seem to me necessary anymore with the S10 +. Only a few apps and sound enhancement (viper4android) only work when it is rooted. Therefore, I am waiting for magic Magisk as you probably do. I just wanna say, do not be disappointed, if you have the snapdragon variant and have to wait maybe for month. By the way, I should have asked at the beginning what you want root for.
Yes, think about what you want root for.
The only thing I'm missing so far is the app that stops charging after xx%.
Also Titanium backup doesn't work. Other than that, I don't need it anymore. Yay.

Well I don't know if I have Snapdragon or not, as I said, brand new to Samsung But the main reason I want root is ofcourse due to playing games. Ability to hex edit and so on.
Going back several years "rooting" was the way to go but for me so many important apps, particularly Banking, will not work with root and also as pointed out in a few replies here the levels that new phones like s10+ have reached there is little benefit anymore

Then you should find out first, if you have Snapdragon or Exynos chip inside. If you haven't done a "special" order, it usually depends on the region, where you live and ordered. Search forum (or google), you´ll easily find the answer.

Flashing One UI

Is it Possible to Flash Samsung's One UI on Oneplus 8 series without Unlocking Bootloader, like Color OS was Available few weeks back Officially.
Are you suggesting flashing Samsung Firmware onto a OnePlus device? Or are you asking if there's a skinned OnePlus ROM One UI? Color OS was available but it's built for OnePlus devices.
I re-posted as a reply.....hence the dbl post.

Is this a serious thread?
You could maybe get the launcher and some bits, but bare in mind that not even the OnePlus camera is ported to custom ROMs that aren't OOS.
Frankly I think the chance of getting a Samsung OS port OnePlus is between 0-1%
I really don't understand why anyone would want it.
If you want to do it then good luck..

Great, good for you.
This will not happen on this device..
If it does it'll be broken, Samsung does not make it easy to port their stuff.
LG? I don't think they care anymore.
Motorola? Pretty sure they're owned by Google or were, so wouldn't imagine the leap being massive.
But the amount of services and crap you'd need to port one UI correctly, sorry but it's not happening.

Lol brilliant..
Wasn't saying impossible lol. Just very very unlikely.
Let's see how it pans out.
More the merrier in my eyes, just don't see it being good and there will be a tonne of hurdles.

Like I said
What doesn't work / Bugs:
NFC
Alert Slider(duh?)
Auto Rotation toggle doesn't do anything so keep it disabled.
Brightness goes from 50% at the minimum to 100% very quickly so You can only use 50,75,100% within 1mm of slider length.
Vibrations
FP Scanner
AOD brightness is always 100%
RIL
Samsung Cloud has problems with logging in.
Bixby probably would work but has to be updated. (Use APKMirror and try!)
Probably more stuff. Working on fixing all bugs.
Is it worth it? To me? No.
Why not just get a Samsung? Never quite understood why people buy a phone, then flash a Port on it. I mean if you want MIUI by a Xiaomi, if you want One UI buy a Samsung.

I agree mate, unless you're in the UK in which case you'd be getting the exynos chipset which is pretty crap.
Don't get me wrong is someone makes a fully functional or even semi functional ROM from any other device then yes it's great, I just know Samsung as I've had a few and their OS is just not for the faint of heart, even their watches were hard to port android to (older ones specifically)
But yea, if you want OneUi, there's only one real way to get it
