Hi,
I am unable to install the Nougat OTA update on my UK XT1622 due to having TWRP installed (I presume). Currently not rooted but was originally rooted to run Foldermount which didn't work. My current build number is MPJ24.139-63. I'm not sure whether it is better to flash stock and upgrade to Nougat via OTA or flash the official Nougat rom - if available. Getting a little lost with all the firmware versions and not entirely sure which ones to flash.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Having a similar issue with the XT1625. Can't figure out how to make it work - at this point I don't even think the update is downloading correctly, the file isn't showing up in cache.
I believe the easiest way to do this would be to get a Nougat flashable ROM, but I have yet to find a stock one for the Moto G4 of the non-plus variant (and I want stock because I back up my stuff using Google and every custom I've tried has just crashed instead of importing stuff). I'm not sure how exactly one would get the ROM, but there's probably a way.

Everything for the G4+ works on the G4, even the stock ROMs. None of the optimized stock ROMs flash over dsp/radio, so there's no issue with flashing fastboots/radios after flashing the stock ROM.
And I've never had issues with Google backup either.

Weird, I have an XT1625 with the exact same radio, no issues whatsoever with any of the XT1643 stock ROMs.

Hi everyone, I have a nexus 6p still running 6.0.1 with an unlocked bootloader, I got the notification for the 7.0 update, but I don't know if I can install it with the bootloader unlocked. Is it possible or do I have to lock the bootloader first?
Yes, bootloader can be unlocked. If you have modified system in any way, it may not apply the update though. I.E. if you are using twrp or you changed any system files.

My bootloader has been unlocked since the day I got my 6P. I restored back to stock MM today, flashed the newest TWRP and joined the android beta pgm to get the N OTA. Worked like a charm, no issues whatsoever.

Just so I can make sure I pass on correct info for the future, the OTA installed by itself with twrp installed? Or did you push it via fast boot?
I went a different route and installed Nougat via a ROM (tried both Stock+ and digital Hugh's versions), so for me it was hardly any different than installing any other ROM.

Yes to the OTA installed with twrp installed, it rebooted into the twrp recovery and then did some patches, etc. rebooted updated apps and hello nougat! I did have to reflash twrp after I booted back up, it did wipe it out.
I was debating about flashing digital Hugh's rom, how do you like it so far?
Good to know, thanks.
I've used aosp based Roms for so long, stock took a little getting used to. But I don't know if I will be going back to aosp now.
Digitalhigh's ROM is very smooth, and it's setup "out of the box" to allow root and android pay (albeit you have to toggle root off when you want to use AP). That's one feature I've always missed out on W aosp.
That said, there are a couple small issues some people are experiencing, clock updating the time only every 3-5min, and some having issues with vipermod not working system wide. I haven't experienced any of those. Plus he's already working on an update to allow for centered status bar clock as well as some other features.
I personally recommend giving it a shot if you want Nougat, worst that happens is you have to nandroid restore a backup.
*Edit* and he already has the night mode built into it, as well as the new nexus launcher if I'm not mistake.
Wouldn't let me attach this in an edit for some reason. That's with 4 hours screen on time, only reason you see that little charging bump is i was backing up a few files to my PC.
Thanks for the answers, just tried to update and everything was installed :good:

Thanks for the detailed reply, you may have pushed me over the edge and I may give it a try. Ive been on Benzo rom across my last 3 phones and got used to all the goodies. But using 7 the last day I find it; very fast, been a fan of Pay when it worked with systemless, can't comment on battery yet but seems decent. I may give it a day or 2 and flash digitialhighs rom, it seems like it gives me Pay with minor hassle and is close to stock. Again thanks.
So, I had a day 1 v20 that began randomly rebooting back in december. Thought it was a hardware issue and finally got around to replacing it the other day. Now, after getting the replacement v20 set up on a custom rom (AICP) I'm seeing random reboots again. I've tried every single custom rom available for the h918 and they all experience reboots. When i've asked about the issue in the threads it seems as if I'm the only one. It appears to be a custom-rom only problem that apparently no one else is experiencing? The kernel panics are being caused by the modem, and it started happening when I upgraded to the 10j base. This replacement also came with 10j. Am I just super unlucky with two duds or is there really something going on here?
TLDR; Anyone else with a h918 with 10j bootloader/modem running custom roms and seeing random reboots?
What kernel do you use? If you use Konverged, it seems to give random reboots after a while of use. I noticed that right away though.

Have always left kernel stock.
Are you making sure that you are wiping data when flashing a rom? Clean install should help. What other things do you use? When does it crash? Maybe a root app is causing this???

This is a fresh replacement device with a clean rom install. There was no data to wipe. Happens even without any apps installed and it's completely random and cannot be reproduced. The only thing I know is the modem is causing the kernel panics.

The entire point here is that I don't want to run stock or anything based on stock. I would simply chalk it up to the Lineage base but since I'm one of a serious minority having this problem I'm led to believe it's something simpler that can be fixed. Possibly related to 10j as most custom ROM users are still running 10d firmware

Anything not based on stock will give you issues. One reason why I like stock based roms is because the second screen will actually work... I would atleast test a stock based rom to see how it goes. If it works and doesnt crash, Then something is wrong with the rom or your could be flashing it wrong :/ Idk, just an idea to test. Non stock roms will Always give you issues. Always
If you still have issues on a stock based rom, then I would downgrade with the kdz and try again. Its probably crashing since the modem is 10j and the rom isnt really fit for that.

I never used the second screen, it's more of a nuisance for me. Everything it did can be replaced by gestures and lockscreen settings on custom. Only thing I miss is notifications but that's why we have ambient display.
I might try downgrading to the 10i firmware to see what happens. Unfortunately there are no 10d flashables. Otherwise this ROM is flawless.

Not to shoot down your opinion, but why would you get it if the Second screen is a nuisance to you?? Im also pretty sure camera is screwed on custom roms.... I just dont have that appeal. Its better safe than sorry to check and see if a stock rom works fine than to downgrade and it still doesnt work :/ Idk thats my 2 cents

It was between this and the axon 7. I didn't want a fullHD screen so that eliminated a lot of the other options.

Not a Samsung fan. Especially with KNOX. I buy phones first based on the chances of development producing workable custom ROMs and second based on hardware features.

UPDATE: Flashing the 10i modem made no difference, still having random reboots (although they seem less frequent), I will try the 10d modem once I find a way to extract it from the TOT files posted on this forum.
So i'am getting my Axon 7 in some days.
I don't really wanna stay stock, but also dont want to run any unstable rom.
So i was thinking about flashing RR + A.R.I.S.E..
Can you recommend me any rom, kernel, mod?
And are there any rom compatible restrictions for the different models?
thx
Hmm i recommend you stock because when you switch to custom you will not get full Axon 7 experience (especially audio) you will not get 100% audio in custom like in stock. Stock isn't bad - nearly like clean Android despite may 2 or 3 APS that you can disable in system. Said far I have Axon since December and firstly I want to switch to custom but I will if Axon will not get Oreo and custom will have Oreo. So as far - most stable and usefully in everyday use is stock.

Hope you got an A2017U - both the G and chinese versions don't have any kernels made for them. I'd also advise staying on stock. There's a Dual boot patcher, seems like a good idea if you want to run another OS besides stock.
But I tell you, no other ROM runs like Stock does right now. and it's been more than a year since they launched the phone, so at least until Android O launches I wouldn't expect that to change

They are. Actually the guide is ONLY for the A2017G.
And OTAs are broken out of the box but you just download the official ZIP and put it on the root of the internal storage or the SD and go to Updates, and it does the process just like an OTA. You can also do this to upgrade or downgrade to MM, even if your device is fully stock, locked bootloader and everything
I live in France and bought mine with Amazon from Germany. So it's a G model. Stock works fine and I think you really don't need to root this device. I've only change the launcher by Nova which brings a much better user experience.

Well if you want to get back the best way is to drop an official full update zip from ZTE on the internal storage, use a flashable recovery zip like those tron1 makes, then use TWRP's reboot to recovery button, and flashing that update zip through there.
My way to RR was the bad battery and sot on stock. I got 4 hrs but that's not enough for me.

1. Just try to use it. I expect it to workk, but never used it myself. Better ask @bkores
2. Usually you can, the best way is to flash tron1's flashable OTAs (if you have TWRP) cause he gets rid of the recovery file though. If you try to flash an official zip with TWRP it might work (i flashed full B04), but TWRP will get replaced with the official recovery. You just flash it again

Try it -- it isn't going to break your phone
Probably isn't going to run to well on new firmware though. Most of the heavy development was done on much older firmware, and those parts haven't been updated.

I'm thinking a TWRP Full Backup of the stock rom and wipe and flash LineageOS. In theory do you think I would be able to restore stock if something doesn't go right?
Yes. When you install LOS or a LOS based ROM the only thing that gets flashed is boot and system. Both of those are backed up by TWRP.

I know this isn't a custom rom but you're like me and on rooted Q, I use to not enjoy stock due to not being able to customize the phone how I liked but the instabilities in the camera and bluetooth and battery life made me appreciate the stock/stock based roms for the V20 and I actually PREFER a fully functional camera nd awesome audio recorder than inferior apps. But! Flash one??? You want stock or custom?
Stock please.....
i'll try custom as well....
Assuming you have the XT1575, you can try here. This will bring you up to stock nougat with an OTA out there if you choose to take it.
Just a couple of caveats if you flash nougat: Once you do so it limits the availability of custom roms greatly. As far as I know this is the last available stock flashable images so if you take the OTA, flashing it again could cause issues as it is considered "downgrading". I personally wanted to root so I did not relock my bootloader and froze my phone taking the OTA so I could always flash the full image should anything go wrong.
Thanks..,. Yes I am talking about the XT1575. Can you also point me in the direction of maintaining my current Root status..... While upgrading to what you would consider the best current rooted ROM.
Thanks

I personally stick with rooted stock. Mileage varies person to person on custom so I just play it safe.
If you go stock rooted, make sure you pay attention when flashing the stock nougat and do the steps in the post that keeps your bootloader unlocked. After stock ROM is flashed, temp flash TWRP, do a backup, then TWRP again and flash root option of your choice. I personally use Magisk to root so apps pass the SafetyNet checks.
