I have my phone set to do-not-disturb at nights. I also use the silent mode and vibrate mode when in meetings. On several occasions the phone has played sounds in these modes while not being used.
I play a certain game which occasionally plays sounds in the background when a game ends. For some reason this notification ignores the silent and dnd mode and plays at normal volume. I never had this issue with my previous SGS6 so I was wondering if this a LG or Nougat issue? To me it sounds like it's not the default notification sound that plays but the actual in-game sounds that occur when a game ends which should be controlled by the media volume settings.
Any similar experiences? Anything to be done about this expect disable all notifications from the game?
Odd, never happened to me and all I do is set it to silent, don't even enable dnd.

I know in Do Not Disturb you can set certain apps that you want to allow notifications from even in Do Not Disturb mode. I'm not sure about silent mode though, that's weird.

hey guys,
a few little annoyances that might be a quick fix: i'd like an option to specify whether or not the "Sound Off" slider on the lock screen goes to silent mode or vibrate mode. (one option turns off all sound, but turns on vibrate, the other option turns off sound and vibrate).
also, i think it's absurd that android's silent mode still allows media volume to come out of the speaker. i think silent mode should turn off the speaker, and only allow audio if headphones are plugged in, but i can see this being a much more involved and intricate change than the previous request. can anyone look into this?
I don't think this is going to happen.
i agree this is a very annoying "feature".. in every other phone silent mode means, vibrate when someone calls usually.
its very rare for me to want to disable notifcations of calls completly (i would rather just shutdown the phone?)
i never actually modded or even compiled android sources but i am a programmer by profession and it seems like a simple patch..
This really pisses me off that silent mode is actually won't ring but will bleep and wizz at every email and text. Silent should be silent.
For starters, coming from a Nokia world, I'm surprised that many other platforms(except BB) dont have profiles built in! That's crazy!
So I was surprised to see that the Mytouch4g has its "modes" option.
Using it however I have noticed that you cant really set volume for ringtones and notifications with these things. All I can do is either turn it off or on and change the tone of the ringtone etc based on the mode selected.
That's not useful
I still have to set the phone on silent etc when going into a meeting or going to bed etc....
Am I missing anything?
I also noticed that changes made to the Normal Sound profile stick...as in Ringer volume at 50% and Notification Volume at 25%....
But changes made to the Silent Profile dont..everytime I get out of it and come back....all notification volume levels are set to 0.
What's the point in letting us set it if it doesnt stick?
So we have the new Silent mode which does not let Alarms through and does not blink the LED for Notifications.
We also have the new Do Not Disturb mode. Which is supposed to block unwanted notifications when on (Not working to well with third party apps many people are reporting).
There are some settings for it which are quite different then the old Blocking Mode in KK.
I'd like to discuss the old way you did things (In KK) and then discuss what the options are with the new way of doing things. (In LP).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My use scenarios (that worked in KK):
- Normal - Sound mode, Blocking mode off
Normal setting during the day. All notifications un-blocked and make noise, vibrate, led, etc.
- Working - Sound mode, Blocking mode on
Silenced all notifications and text messages, calls were allowed through. Led light worked so I could glance at my phone and know if I had a new text, email or whatever.
- Temporary quiet time - Silent mode
I would switch to Silent mode if I was out somewhere like a show or something and wanted silence. I could have turned my phone off in these times but Silent mode worked fine most of the time.
The only thing to watch for is if you had an Alarm set, it would still go off.
- Bed time - Silent mode
Everything quiet except my alarm that would wake me in the morning.
I'm very interested to hear how people use these settings and their workarounds with the new LP methods.
Hopefully we can figure out some methods. Even if they are third party apps that you've had to resort to. But ideally while working with what we have.
Do not disturb has a setting to allow alarms on my VZW S6
On silent mode my alarm still rings and my led still blinks

So are you using DND as your Bedtime setting?
If you have DND set to stop all but Alarms what do you do for those other temporary times that you may want different settings for DND?

Wow.. I just tried again and the Alarm did go off with Silent mode.
I swear I tested it all the first day and it wasn't going off. I'm on the newest update now though. I wonder if that was it.

I just put the phone on silent...
What I miss from ( KK) Blocking mode is that it actually rejected incoming calls. The (LP)Do Not Disturb just mutes the ringtone, therefore people calling think you just missed the call and keep trying. Not really a big deal for most but as my work phone it was handy to be able to toggle blocking mode and my employees knowing when they called if it right to voicemail that I was driving or in a meeting. Now they just keep calling lol.
All of the 3rd party apps I've tried do reject calls but generally after 1 or 2 rings, and some have issues with 3rd party apps. I wish we could just use the KK blocking mode again
Do not disturb sucks. When I turn it on it doesn't work like it supposed to be. I still get the notifications on screen
It's weird. I'm not talking about DND. Seems as though every time I put ringer on vibrate it reverts back to sound after a while. Same with the media volume. I don't get it?!?!?
Anyone seen experience same?

you sure you're putting RINGER on vibrate and not NOTIFICATIONS? they changed the volume controls in 5.x to make it "more difficult" to actually put your ringer on vibrate.
this has happened to me too. haven't figure it out yet, though. I'll put it in vibrate and a few minutes later will hear a text msg notification. Really inconvenient while in class and meetings. Ringer and notifications are linked in volume. if you go to sound and notifications settings it only shows media, alarm, and ring volumes.
the built in sound modes that we can adjust from the pull down are: normal, silent, vibrate.
the silent and vibrate work well and so does normal most times but here is what I am seeing.
when every sound level (alarm, media, notification, ringer, systems, voice) is set to something and you start cycling between them.... the second tine you cycle to normal, the notification level goes to zero.
does anyone know where this file is located? I'd really live to make it something static so the normal level is always the same.
thanks so much!
